Bullet Club Attacks El Phantasmo, Expels Him From The Group At NJPW Sakura Genesis

El Phantasmo making his entrance in NJPW

NJPW Sakura Genesis 2023 was a newsworthy night of action top-to-bottom, headlined by fan favorite SANADA winning his first IWGP World Heavyweight Championship in the main event . However, one of the less talked about moments of the show was the fallout of the fourth match. Right before the championship battles of the event began, El Phantasmo get forcefully removed from Bullet Club following his trios match alongside KENTA and David Finlay against the team of Tama Tonga, HIKULEO, and Master Wato.

After Phantasmo got the deciding fall on Wato, KENTA and Finlay continued to assault their opponents after the match. Eventually, ELP attempted to stop Finlay's onslaught on Tama Tonga, leading the newest leader of the Bullet Club to attack Phantasmo. While members of Bullet Club initially attempted to break the fight up, the "peacemakers" quickly clarified their allegiances. Both KENTA and ELP's long-time tag team partner, Taiji Ishimori, joined Finlay in assaulting Phantasmo, effectively ousting him from the group.

The problems between Finlay and Phantsmo came about due to Finlay's attack on Jay White at Battle In the Valley. While that seemed to spell the end for "Switchblade" at the head of Bullet Club, White's arrival in AEW last Wednesday has led many to question where he currently stands with the group. With Phantasmo, one of White's closest allies, being kicked out, and Finlay suggesting that offshoots of Bullet Club are just "cosplayers," the Bullet Club continues to rapidly change and evolve ahead of their tenth anniversary next month.

El Phantasmo

CRII, Sudden Death (superkick), CRIII

El Phantasmo started his career in Canada before growing in notoriety in the UK. Phantasmo engaged in a friendly rivalry with Will Ospreay in Britain, which led many to assume that he would eventually make his Japanese debut as part of CHAOS. However, it was Bullet Club that recruited the ‘Headbanga’, and Phantasmo made his debut at Dontaku 2019, instantly making a statement by laying out Ospreay with the CRII.

Phantasmo went on to win the Super J-Cup on his first attempt in 2019, a feat he would repeat in 2020. Combining this singles success with three IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship reigns, ELP proved to be as talented as he is obnoxious, a status he carried into 2022. Transitioning to heavyweight and taking part in G1 Climax 32, Phantasmo then moved to challenge Tama Tonga for the NEVER Openweight Championship at New Beginning in Osaka on February 11 2023.

When BULLET CLUB saw a change in leadership, Phantasmo couldn’t accept the direction of David Finlay, finding himself kicked out of BULLET CLUB as a result. With a new attitude and a thirst for revenge, Phantasmo appeared to attack Finlay at Dontaku 2023, and vowed to take down BULLET CLUB one member at a time. After his last match in the G1 tournament, Phantasmo joined the Guerillas of Destiny as G.o.D also seeks to get revenge on BULLET CLUB. In October 2023 at Ryogoku, Phantasmo teamed up with Hikuleo and beat Alex Coughlin & Gabe Kidd to capture the STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships. Phantasmo and Hikuleo came close to win the World Tag League 2023. Although Phantasmo and Hikuleo lost to Bishamon in the final, Bishamon declared a challenge to Strong tag golds, leading to the dual tag title match at Wrestle Kingdom 18.

El Phantasmo IMPACT Wrestling

El Phantasmo (ELP) made his return to IMPACT Wrestling tonight on AXS TV. He aided fellow Bullet Club members Hikuleo and Chris Bey against David   Finlay and Juice Robinson.

El Phantasmo Returns to IMPACT

The feud between FinJuice and Bullet Club has been ongoing ever since Jay White appeared in IMPACT after Slammiversary . Chris Bey made his way into The Bullet Club largely at the expense of FinJuice. Hikuleo joined the fray a couple of weeks ago, helping Bey beat down FinJuice after David Finlay defeated Bey. This lead to a tag team match between FinJuice and Chris Bey/Hikuleo at Victory Road . Bey and Hikuleo picked up the win that night, setting up for a match this week between Finlay and Hikuleo.

Finlay picked up the win tonight with Bey and Juice Robinson having run-ins during the match. The celebration was short-lived, as fellow Bullet Club member El Phantasmo made his return to IMPACT. He helped Bey and Hikuleo beat down FinJuice as the Bullet Club stood tall.

El Phantasmo appeared in IMPACT earlier this year. He won a six-way scramble that earned him the number one contendership at the X-Division Championship. He was unable to capture the title as he lost to Josh Alexander at Under Siege . The Bullet Club continues to make their presence felt every week on IMPACT. This is often coming at the expense of fellow New Japan Pro-Wrestling roster members FinJuice.

El Phantasmo Feels Something Will Happen With Bullet Club Gold At Forbidden Door

Could el phantasmo help bullet club gold at forbidden door.

  • By Jack Atkins
  •   2 June, 2023 5:00 PM

We are several weeks away from AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II, the follow-up to one of the most acclaimed wrestling events of 2022.

No matches have been formally announced for the event as of yet, but it seems that the animosity between Bullet Club Gold and the alliance of FTR and Ricky Starks could rumble on towards Toronto, with a potential six-man tag match in the works.

Whilst FTR and Starks run three-deep, ‘The Bang Bang Gang’ currently consists of just Jay White and Juice Robinson, but as former Bullet Club member El Phantasmo revealed to the official NJPW website , he has a hunch that ‘something’ will happen at the event:

"I feel very, very conflicted about that, you know,” said ELP. “When I got kicked out of BULLET CLUB by [David] Finlay, [Taiji] Ishimori and KENTA took his side, when I had thought that we could have done our own thing with BULLET CLUB. We made BULLET CLUB special in the last few years, and to have that all get kicked out and taken away from you, and to have Jay and Juice restart BULLET CLUB Gold in AEW.

“On the one hand, I want to move away from BULLET CLUB and start fresh, but on the other hand, I’ve got what my boys are doing in AEW. We still have that connection, but I have this anti-connection with New Japan (BULLET CLUB). I’m happy for what Jay and Juice are doing in AEW, but my focus is on Finlay, and Ishimori and KENTA and what’s going on in Japan.

"Then again, everyone knows it’s Forbidden Door season now. I don’t know what’s gonna happen, Jay doesn’t know what’s gonna happen, Finlay doesn’t know what’s gonna happen, I don’t think anyone knows what’s gonna happen. But I have a hunch that something’s gonna happen.”

El Phantasmo wrestled at the inaugural Forbidden Door event in 2022, teaming with former Bullet Club members The Young Bucks to take on Sting, Darby Allin, and Shingo Takagi in six-man tag action.

Every current member of njpw's bullet club, ranked worst to best.

NJPW's Bullet Club remains one of the most popular factions in pro wrestling, and here's every current member, ranked worst to best.

Since its creation in 2013, the Bullet Club has been one of the most dominant factions in all of pro wrestling. With each iteration the club’s been through, they’ve continued to wreak havoc over New Japan in both Japan and the US.

RELATED: 10 AEW Wrestlers’ Runs In NJPW, Ranked Worst To Best

Bullet Club has had a lot of members come and go, including Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, AJ Styles, and Prince Devitt (now known as Finn Balor) . The current members of Bullet Club, though they’ve struggled to form one unified front, have a lot of talent as well. Not all the members are exactly of the highest caliber, though. With that said, here’s every current member of Bullet Club in order from worst to best.

15 Chase Owens

What’s the opposite of charisma? Whatever it is, Chase Owens is full of it. Owens has had no exceptionally notable matches, feuds, or accomplishments in NJPW.

His habit of vanity searching on Twitter and picking fights with fans in their DMs doesn’t help his case, either. Overall, Owens contributes the least to Bullet Club, and maybe to New Japan in general.

14 Bad Luck Fale

In recent years, Bad Luck Fale has been the embodiment of “phoning it in.” He’s been with the Bullet Club since its inception but hasn’t contributed to the group very much at all, at least in the ring.

He works as a coach in NJPW’s New Zealand dojo, so he does do some good for the company, but not much from a fan’s perspective.

13 Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows

Karl Anderson is most known for some good matches he had almost a decade ago. For someone who’s currently wrestling, this isn’t exactly the best reputation to have.

Doc Gallows is in the same boat as Anderson here. Neither of them has much of a character behind their gimmick besides the fact that they are, indeed, in Bullet Club.

12 Dick Togo

The Spoiler Dick Togo became EVIL’s manager when EVIL betrayed Tetsuya Naito and joined Bullet Club. He’s had a few matches himself, though he doesn’t work to an especially high caliber given his age.

His shtick as a manager is pretty repetitive, but he’s not the biggest offender on the list by any means.

The King of Darkness, EVIL, had one of the most shocking heel turns in recent NJPW when he betrayed LIJ (which is ironic considering his name, yes). His run in Bullet Club started with a lot of heat behind it, especially when he dethroned Tetsuya Naito to become the second-ever double IWGP Champion.

EVIL’s momentum fizzled out pretty quickly, though, as it soon became clear that every match of his would essentially be the same series of interferences and dirty tactics repeated over and over.

Formerly one half of Roppongi 3K, Sho has struggled to find his footing in Bullet Club. He was very popular as a babyface, so, while the decision to turn him heel was very much a gamble, it could’ve paid off if it was handled differently.

While not all hope is lost for Sho’s time in Bullet Club, things aren’t looking too good; as a part of the House of Torture, he has very repetitive matches and a goofy villainous gimmick that elicits annoyance more than heel heat.

9 Yujiro Takahashi

Yujiro Takahashi is a part of EVIL’s House of Torture. He’s called the Tokyo Pimp and is often accompanied to the ring by Pieter, a beautiful and often scantily-clad woman.

While he’s not making waves in New Japan by any means, he’s found a shtick that works for him, and he’s stuck with it. That’s pretty commendable, as much as calling yourself a pimp can be, at least.

Before joining Bullet Club, Gedo was Kazuchika Okada’s manager. He and Jay White betrayed CHAOS together and Gedo consequently became the Switchblade’s manager instead.

His presence helped Jay find his footing in Bullet Club and especially helped Jay during his run as IWGP Heavyweight Champion. While he hardly competes in the ring, Gedo is a valuable member of Bullet Club from the sidelines.

7 Juice Robinson

Juice Robinson is the newest member of Bullet Club. His heel turn came as a great surprise after Juice was claiming he was stepping away from wrestling altogether, only to show up and attack Hiroshi Tanahashi from behind to announce his allegiance to the Club.

RELATED: 10 Best Tag Teams In NJPW History, Ranked

A heel turn could prove to be incredibly beneficial to Juice’s momentum. What he’s shown fans so far is incredibly promising, and is hopefully leading to even bigger and better things for Robinson.

Hikuleo is the younger brother of Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa, both of whom were recently ousted from Bullet Club. Despite his brothers being kicked out of the Club, Hikuleo is still a member and usually works in a tag team alongside Chris Bey.

There’s a chance Hikuleo might end up being kicked out soon as well, but in the meantime, he is an imposing wrestler and a nice young star for Bullet Club to have around.

5 Chris Bey

IMPACT’s Chris Bey was invited to join Bullet Club by Jay White . In addition to his incredible agility, Bey is most likely known for his charisma.

Though he hasn’t had many opportunities to prove his worth to Bullet Club inside NJPW rings, the outings we have seen from him show a lot of potential. He also meshes very well with the other members, which helps the Bullet Club feel more cohesive.

4 El Phantasmo

Canadian junior heavyweight El Phantasmo is an eccentric high-flyer. He’s goofier than he is intimidating, which the Bullet Club seems to bounce back and forth between.

El Phantasmo is incredibly athletically gifted and amuses the crowd with his heel antics. He has very solid matches and is quite beneficial to the group overall.

3 Taiji Ishimori

The Bone Soldier Taiji Ishimori is arguably one of the most underrated junior heavyweights wrestling today for non-Japanese audiences. At the time of writing, Ishimori is the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.

Despite this, he’s never been treated as the face of the division. Nevertheless, Ishimori is one of the best and most consistent wrestlers in Bullet Club.

KENTA’s influence on the wrestling world cannot be understated. He’s had a prolific career that’s seen him wrestle across the globe, impressing audiences and brutalizing opponents with his strong style.

KENTA has been an amazing addition to Bullet Club since turning heel on his longtime friend and rival, Katsuyori Shibata. He also has some scores to settle in the US , so hopefully we'll be seeing more of him in the lead-up to Forbidden Door .

1 Jay White

It might be cliche to rank the leader of Bullet Club as its best member, but in this instance, it’s just reality. Jay White is amazing in the ring and even better on the mic. His charisma and wrestling ability have helped carry Bullet Club through the departure of the Elite and the COVID-19 pandemic.

RELATED: 5 Things That Should Happen At NJPW & AEW's “The Forbidden Door” Event (& 5 That Shouldn’t)

Now, with the partnership between AEW and NJPW, Jay White is serving as a great liaison between the US and New Japan. Jay White is, in every sense, indispensable.

El Phantasmo And Hikuleo Discuss How They Came To Be Tag Team Partners

El Phantasmo and Hikuleo discuss how they came to be tag team partners and the bond they have struck up.

Following his banishment from The Bullet Club earlier this year, El Phantasmo appeared to be in a form of limbo. However, as his run in this years G1 Climax came to an end, it would be revealed that he had now aligned himself with the Guerillas of Destiny. In particular, Hikuleo who ELP teamed with back in September, has been the Canadian's partner as the pair captured the NJPW STRONG Tag Team Championships on October 30th.

While speaking to Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, the two men would discuss how El Phantasmo came to be aligned with the Guerillas of Destiny following his removal from The Bullet Club. The two men revealed that the pairing came as a surprise to both of them.

EL PHANTASMO: “Well, to be very honest, I don’t think either of us expected it. Literally we did the whole G1 where I had no friends, got kicked out of Bullet Club, was a little sad. The Tongans came and picked me up and took me to [Yakiniku] and invited me into their family. We were all under the assumption that it was going to be ELP and the G.O.D. and it was literally Ryogoku show or something that, it was right before the match, they were like, ‘Oh, we’re not going to play ELP’s music. We’re just gonna play G.O.D.’s music.’ I was like, ‘Oh,that’s interesting.’ Then we got into the ring, and they’re like, ‘And in the Guerillas of Destiny, El Phantasmo.’ We kinda looked at each other like, ‘Oh, shit. They just put us in G.O.D. together without even telling us.’ We have teamed up together back in England and RevPro and stuff, so we do have that chemistry. But that kinda came out of nowhere for both of us.” HIKULEO: “Yeah, and we’re two completely different wrestlers from 2019 when we were both in RevPro. So four years ago. Huge difference from then, too.” SEAN ROSS SAPP: “Is El Phantasmo invited to the holidays—like the Thanksgivings and stuff like that—now?” HIKULEO: “Of course. I got the Tongan passport ready for him to come on over. We gotta get him the tribal tattoo on the side right quick and then he’s in. He’s already in, man. He’s already in. We’re just waiting for him to come on over and have some extra horse.” SEAN ROSS SAPP: “I wanna see the rope walk with the Tongan DeathGrip. That’s what I want to see. I want to see some evolution in some of that. I was a fan of the Tongan Death Grip as a kid.” HIKULEO: “Oh. Yeah. I wasn’t.” SEAN ROSS SAPP: “Really? Why?” HIKULEO: “‘Cause one time I asked my dad, ‘Does it really hurt?’ He’slike, ‘Here, let me give it to you,’ and yeah, it’s a shoot. He gets rightyou on the Adam’s apple and just squeezes it. Never questioned him again. So yeah, that’s one move I’d like to use, but I gotta get permission from him first. So one of these days I’ll pull it out.

Most recently, Hikuleo and El Phantasmo had a run at winning the New Japan Pro Wrestling World Tag League, reaching the finals where they would lose to Bishamon.

Elsewhere in the same interview, El Phantasmo revealed that Gabe Kidd previously choked him out for real in a match together earlier this year. You can read more about that here.
