Boat: Alloy Peterson 40 | . From the outside they look like lovely little that should sail well. The big sister cav 32's have got a great reputation, a fair few have circumnavigated. I saw a cav 32 in hobart that had rounded cape horn, his and kept going until he got here. He got some more and then headed to NZ, still with the jury rig up... It must have been well built. All the best |

Their Cav 26 from sailed it from NZ to . They were making 120 miles a day and more some days Which is encouraging as I have 800 miles to take it home. That's is if we can make the deal sweet enough. Here's hoping | |

Boat: Alloy Peterson 40 | . It should be a fun trip bringing her down to Hobart. Looks like she has some good , is the staying with the boat? Looks like she is the design rather than the more rounded salthouse ones you see in ? not sure whats going on there but she is very similar in shape to my 1979 40 Two tonner. I guess she won't be real quick surfing downwind but I am very pleased with how my big sister version and handles as long as you get the main off early downwind and don't do stupid things with kites... For some info on similar designs see and . Peterson pretty much scaled up the pintails from his ganbere design, tweaking each design slightly. By 1979 (my area) the sterns were just slightly wider and the forefoot slightly shallower. Also look up Greyhawk, a peterson 34, an interesting site. Here's some Pics of my Underwater, you can see the resemblance. |

The Cavalier 28 was, from its inception in the early 80s, as the New Zealand Davidson 28, designed for both racing and cruising. As you would expect of a boat designed by Laurie Davidson, of America's Cup fame, her racing credentials are outstanding. A Cav 28 has all the controls you need to coax her to perform well above what her length ...
The Cavalier 28 is equipped with a finn keel. A boat with a fin keel is more manoeuvrable but has less directional stability than a similar boat with a long keel. The boat can enter most marinas as the draft is just about 1.60 - 1.70 meter (5.25 - 5.55 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.
S# first appeared (that we know of) in TellTales, April 1988, "On a Scale of One to Ten" by A.P. Brooks . The equation incorporates SA/Disp (100% fore triangle) and Disp/length ratios to create a guide to probable boat performance vs. other boats of comparable size. For boats of the same length, generally the higher the S#, the lower the PHRF.
