By now the Fuji 35 is a very successful stock yacht. Upon her introduction I was quite surprised that there was a market for a yacht with very little of the current stock boat trappings. In fact, the Fuji 35 seemed a little anachronistic. It is, I'm sure, this feature that has brought her to the popularity she is now enjoying.
The John G. Alden office has been known for years for producing fine performing yachts. The Fuji follows in this tradition. She is of a hull form that traces its model back to the well-known Alden schooners. Compared to most of the current production yachts, the Fuji is a bit narrow. I don't think it's narrow, I feel it's about right for good windward performance. While the Fuji won't point like an IOR racing yacht, she will move to weather well, to cruising boat standards.
The sheer and other aesthetic treatments on the hull are done with impeccable taste, and the Fuji doesn't convey the "toy boat" image of some of the other character type designs. In fact, to call the Fuji a character yacht would be wrong. She is a traditional yacht.
The beam on deck is generous. This makes for a very dry boat and has the bonus of affording large side decks and a huge cockpit area. The keel is long but cut away slightly forward to improve maneuverability. There is a slight drag angle to the keel also. This, I think, is also to improve maneuverability. There should be no question as to the Fuji's ability to track or steer herself. The large transom and the minimum overhang of the mizzen boom would be ideal for attaching a self-steering device. The displacement / length ratio of the Fuji 35 is 413. This indicates the Fuji is in the heavy displacement area.
The Fuji is available in two rigs, the standard ketch and optional cutter. Aesthetically both rigs look great on the yacht, but my preference is for the ketch. It's true that you possibly could go to weather a little bit better with the cutter; however, I think the improvement would be negligible due to the hull form of the Fuji. The largest sail in the ketch rig is only 220 square feet. This would make the Fuji very easy to handle short handed. The ketch rig is very hard to beat for leisurely husband and wife sailing. While I don't care for the shape of most club jibs, they do cut down the activity during a tack.
Very few people can go below a Fuji for the first time without some sort of pleasant exclamation. The woodwork is of a quality that is all but extinct and has to be one of the main selling points of the Fuji. Her builder is Fuji Yacht Builders, Japan. The molding details are the best I've seen on a production yacht. Wood lovers will feel right at home. The builder has gone to the trouble of matching all his grains, and the overall impression is beautiful.
The layout of the Fuji is quite simple and a time-proven winner. There is quite an expanse of teak and holly cabin sole, and I personally know of a number of people living aboard their Fujis in the Seattle area. This is the true test of an interior. If you can stand to live aboard the yacht, and even enjoy it, the layout is usually the prime factor. Standard cushions on the Fuji are five inches thick. Other nice standard features are hot and cold pressure water, 110 wiring, shower sump pump, 30 gallon holding tank and an unusual amount of lockers and drawers.
The hull of the Fuji is hand laid up fiberglass with polyurethane noise and sweat insulation.
Yachts, being the romantic objects that they are, are, I'm sure sold on their looks more times than the owners would like to admit. I like this. This is a very valid criteria and one in which the Fuji 35 excels. Her styling insures that she will look good for years to come.

 Pershing GTX116 yacht tour: Inside a brand new 6,000hp luxury super cruiser
Reporting from the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival, MBY editor Hugo Andreae takes us on a full tour of the Pershing GTX116, which was making its global debut... The Italian yard’s most radical new boat in years, the Pershing GTX116 is best classified as a sportfly, although the futuristic styling and unusual layout suggest a crossover label may be more appropriate. The GTX116 certainly has a very different look to the 50-knot sportscruisers we’re used to seeing from Pershing , with a near vertical windscreen positioned much further forward than usual and a snub-nosed bow like the flagship Pershing 140 . The stern is also quite different with a trio of terraces that cascade down to sea level culminating in a pair of transom doors that swing up and out to create a beach club effect. This cab-forward design frees up space for a much more even split between indoor and outdoor entertaining zones. The main deck cockpit is almost as long as the saloon, with room for an aft-facing sofa and chairs, a ten-person dining table and a cocktail bar with stools. The Pershing GTX116 also features an unusual asymmetric layout. Although the open plan saloon is zoned conventionally with a lounge aft, galley and dining area amidships, and bridge forward – the whole area is offset to starboard so that it takes in the space usually reserved for the side deck. Article continues below… Pershing 140 yacht tour: Inside a 10,400hp, 38-knot monster superyachtSunseeker 116 yacht tour: inside a raised pilothouse superyacht. This makes it wider than would otherwise be the case and avoids the corridor-like feel some long, thin performance boats suffer from. There’s also an optional fold-down terrace on the port side which connects to the saloon with the aid of a sliding glass side door to create another indoor/outdoor lounge area. Two smaller side doors on either side of the bridge give access to the bow cockpit where a pair of big sunbeds flank an optional circular spa pool. The lower-deck accommodation consists of four or five ensuite cabins for up to 10 guests. The full-beam owner’s cabin is amidships and features twin ensuite shower-rooms.  The other guest cabins have inward-facing transverse beds – two doubles and two slightly smaller twin-bed cabins – or the fourth can be specified as a lower dinette. Plus there’s crew space for five in three ensuite cabins forward. Although the Pershing GTX116 is a voluminous boat with 125m² of living space, it’s still a Pershing so power options are prodigious. The standard set up is triple 1,800hp MANs on KaMeWa waterjets, only the outer two of which steer, but these can be uprated to 2,000hp MANs, which was the option chosen by the owner of hull no1. The preliminary quoted top speeds are 32.5 or 35.5 knots respectively, with a range of around 400nm at a cruising speed of 25 knots.  Following her launch in February 2023, Pershing GTX116 hull no1 was named Caffeine by her American owner. “I spent years searching for a yacht that’s perfect for Miami but could never find one,” he added. “Now my ideal model is finally a reality thanks to Pershing GTX116. “Five suites, a sunroof on the upper deck, a huge Jacuzzi, plenty of space for the crew, a large garage for tenders, and the best silver paintwork of all time. Not only beauty and comfort, but also the quality and safety that only a Pershing can provide.” Prices have not yet been released.  First look inside the 35m Pershing GTX116Pershing has revealed the first images inside its 35.2-metre GTX116 model ahead of its Monaco Yacht Show debut. Conceived by Pershing, a Ferretti Group brand, the GTX116 is the flagship of a new GTX series presented at the Miami International Boat Show in 2022 and aims to combine the functionality of a Sports Utility Yacht with signature Pershing performance. The sporty new line is the result of a collaboration between the Ferretti Group Strategic Product Committee led by Piero Ferrari, the design firm headed by Fulvio De Simoni, and the Ferretti Group’s engineering department. The GTX116 model is characterised by a streamlined profile and Montecarlo grey exterior, reflecting the yacht’s sporty capacities and design cues borrowed from Gran Turismo automotive imagery. Connected by two stairways built into the superstructure, the two-deck yacht comprises a main deck and an upper sportfly, which can comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests. The 150 square metres of fully interconnected outdoor areas demonstrate an increased focus on al fresco living. The main deck is stretched over two levels, the first of which is designed for outdoor life in contact with the sea and the second for socialising and conviviality. A 39-square-metre beach club is attached to an electro-hydraulic taffrail that opens up to connect the beach area with the swim platform, creating a waterfront lounge area. A garage ensures the water can be enjoyed to its full capacity, with space for a tender measuring more than five metres, plus a Jetski and water toys. From the beach club, there is also access to the cockpit above, which features an external social area with dining and a bar. The forward living area can be accessed via the portside walkways or through the bridge, where there is an option to install a Jacuzzi. The GTX116 is crowned by a 40-square-metre sundeck, with a helm station and generous seating area protected from the elements thanks to a carbon hard top. Meanwhile, the interior offers a five-cabin layout and large windows that flood the social spaces with natural light. The full-beam owner's cabin is centrally positioned and the configuration also includes two doubles and two twins, all with private bathrooms, plus a sixth bathroom off the main stairway. Owners also have the choice of an alternative layout in which one of the guest cabins is replaced by an intimate lower saloon. At the entrance to the main saloon, a large living space is brought to life with armchairs and an L-shaped sofa that seats ten – providing panoramic sea views with its lateral sliding door that opens onto a terrace. Further forward, the dining area has a large table seating up to ten people, while the galley can also be designed with a bar counter show kitchen should the owner wish. The crew quarters in the forward section of the lower deck house a pantry, a laundry, and accommodation for five across two twins and a captain’s cabin. The Pershing GTX116 is equipped with a triple waterjet propulsion system, paired with three MAN V12 2,000hp engines for a top speed of 34 knots and a cruising speed of 29 knots. The first hull made her on-the-water debut at the Monaco Grand Prix 2023 following her launch in February. Named Caffeine , she was commissioned by a US-based owner who said he had spent "years" looking for the perfect yacht for cruising in Miami. She was named caffeine "in honour of the ingredient that made [the owner's] fortune". Pershing announced the launch of its second GTX116 model in July 2023 and the success of the series has led to a speculative third hull with delivery scheduled in early 2024.
