The Motorboat is a Vehicle that allows for transportation on water. The Motorboat's surface is useful for establishing a mobile base, seeing as Structures , Beds , and Containers can be placed directly on top, though Foundations must be used to build some Structures upon it such as Walls .

Limitations [ ]

• Structure limit: 135 (On private servers or in single player the limit can be increased via PerPlatformMaxStructuresMultiplier )
• Height limit: Survivors can build up to 8 walls high above the raft, and up to 80 walls below it.
• Size limit: 13x13 (discluding the corners)

Notes/Trivia [ ]

• If a Baryonyx stuns the Survivor driving the Motorboat whilst the Motorboat is moving forwards, it will continue to drive forward without a driver.

The Motorboat is a vehicle that allows for aquatic transportation when fueled with Gasoline and structure support for up to 135 structures, similar the Wooden Raft or Platform Saddles . The Motorboat has a limit of 1,800 weight for attached storage containers. The Vault cannot be placed on a Motorboat, Wooden Raft, or Platform Saddle.

Hello you fellow raft scrub lords, if your looking for a pro guide to your raft then you found the right post! 

I'll be telling you tips and tricks on your epic boat quest, however i will not tell you all my secrets~

Frist just know a raft base is arguably the most powerful and easiest base for a solo and up, you get the true definition of a mobile base (even dinos with so called portable base) 

With the raft you can move it anywhere where there is water, tracking em can take forever plus if someone finds your raft it isn't a big deal as you can always move

The moment you can, always get the motor boat and never settle for a wooden raft, the motor boat has better build limit, speed and mobility of its class, no vehicle can match what the motor raft can or even dinos

Beginner: make your Frist boat your house boat, this boat is your main hq, its the boat you use to grind, store things, sink your foundations and build only around the areas that isn't covered by the floor of the raft (aka putting armor on your raft) since your house boat is NOT ment to fight and should not, build going only forward to hide what you have and mesh it

Hide it as best you can, remember to think like a raider and plan accordingly 

Tip 1: never build your walls more then 2 walls as this is just a waste of space

Tip 2: never use storage box, use Smithy tables as you get more storage and can craft (to those who say it isn't safe, if someone gets in your raft you already lost it) use sleeping bags to mesh your tables close and add as much as you wish, 13 if you wish

Tip 3: 3 fabs, 1 industry, your house boat should be quiet, when not in use shut off anything that makes noise otherwise the noise will draw raiders to it's location

Mid to end: build another one, this time this raft is ment for combat and works best if you have a buddy, to make a sort of "fleet" 

This boats main job is to escort and protect the house boat at any cost, put plant turrets and autos for best effects, 2 walls and builds should only benefit the combat boat, can be use as a cargo ship for your house boat if need be

Tip 1: turrets and plant are a nasty combo 

Tip 2: spike walls for the more aggressive to your issues....

Tip 3: your combat boat is there to draw attention away from your house boat, spikes on the roof and go nuts, you can even ram the spikes into things for nasty damage 

Tip 4: armor! Unlike house boat cover your boat in armor, raiders will need to blow up these if they wish to destory your boat, set your autos for different targets, a few for tames and ones only for surviors, that way it makes it tuff for surviors to effectively raid you

As i always say, a dino is useless without it's master

A few plant x will easily kill / stall lock a leeds. Keep doing this and run or kill it while moving slow away.l

You can lure a dino on the boat, knock it out then drive anywhere to let it tame (or keep moving) use this time to let it starve. If it's moving while still wild and not knocked out it has a chance to clip out.

Be careful of rocks clipping if you drive a lowered cargo raft.

Right on, how could i forget such a useful tip!

I have been living on rafts as a pirate in official pvp , arkpoc, and classic (13k hours). I have been a lone beach bob. I have fought for megas in my boats and been a farming slave on my boat designs (they can haul in huge amounts of resources if designed right). And let me be the first to tell that there is a huge amount of untested misinformation out there on this topic. Most players in megas have zero to no knowledge on this matter as well. Everything I post I have personally tested and vetted as effective or not.

1. Playing on official is the hardest for a boat. Tames (looking at you snow owl and managarmr) have become so powerful with breeding that auto turrets struggle to be a deterrent. The game is far more balanced on classic/ arkpoc where breed lines get reset. Snow owls with the massive hp and stam can chase a boat and at the right time can dive on it letting the rider dismount and get a rocket run on you. Managarmr swim faster than a motor boat  and can regen stam while swimming.  They can scout huge amounts of water quickly to find your boat home. 

2. Plant X are only good for one thing, anti-leeds on a wooden raft. Don't bother with them if you have a motor boat which a leeds can't catch. In cases where you get a alpha leeds which are faster a single turret powered off on the underside of your boat set to wild only will save your ship. Have a key pad near you and activate it once you see it coming. Don't worry if he gets a few chomps on you as you power it up and start moving the motor boat can take a lot of hits before you sink. [PS there is a bug that sometimes happens with motor boats on genesis where when an alpha leeds bites the boat the life icon doesn't show you took damage. Trust me you did and it will eventually sink you... personal experience here :*(  ]

I have to run some errands with the wife ill periodically post more info as I have time. Next post will focus on some solutions to the problems shown in #1.

Of course i am only human and mainly speak from experience on rag, i agree it's stupid that a mana can go fast to the point it beats your motor boat

But one thing that a motor boat beats any dino is being a true mobile base, thats what i love about it, plus it's easy for solos, it does suck that you can't slap heavys on it as this makes literally no sense. I think a buff is an order to make these motor boats a true force to go against 

I sink my foundations etc, i learn where to hide my motor boats so stealth is ensure, a raider will only attack a base they can see

The key is to understand that at its core boats offer little protection if you are offline so yes you are correct not being found is key.   

And in that light much experience has led me to the opinion that a boat strat is weak as boats are not hard to find BUT a fleet strat is very strong. As a bob on the beach don’t build one raft to make into your base. Rather make five rafts into five bases spread out on the sea. I can’t tell you how many times my fleet of rafts/ motor boats have out lived bases of my allies on servers that are targeted for grief raids. Use beds as a transportation network to hop from boat to boat.   

Secondly play on rag. It has the largest ocean and lots of resources that can be reached by dinos standing on the deck of your boat.  This allows you to slot cap on stone flint metal and wood as a bob and makes progressing into higher tier gear easy.

I used to love rafts . On official pvp they are just so vulnerable.  A simple wood tunnel raft and rocket launcher down the tube makes very short work of them. 

They are also not hard to find. You are limited to where you can hide them.  

Indeed, I know its expensive but water mines spouse to counter them?

This. Boats are a joke. The mightiest metal motorboat with 100 turrets can be taken out by someone in a raft with a thatch hallway.

Even for PVE a taming raft can help. With all the pillar spam, it is nice to be able to take a trap along with you anywhere that is by the water.

They are vulnerable but that doesn't make them a bad choice. You just need to change how you are thinking. A boat is never a place you should be storing your stuff. Even pirates in tales know to bury their treasure. A boat should be thought of a disposable thing. If you know how to farm on rag with your boats even a metal motor boat isn't that expensive. Just be sure to grab all your turrets and ammo and stash it away when you log off for the day.

How would you guys buff rafts?

No mention of the use of slanted roofs in your tip list is a massive fail in my opinion, because people who want to build the fab on a raft will require a two high structure and just using walls will just waste your limited structure limits.  No mention of using standing torches to uncover the amount of structures that you have left to utilize.

I wouldn’t.  I would buff turrets. Give them the option to target structures so that boat are better at defending themselves when you are offline.

Using slanted roofs is no big deal. If you are building many boats and specializing them the structure cap is a non issue.   

Don’t build an all in one boat. Have a forge boat. Have a harvest boat. Have a combat boat ect....

By rafts i only mean motor boats because god rafts are too slow, wish motor boat was faster, also wish there more then just a motor boat as it's the only true mobile boat base

If a structure comes in range it shoots it. Lol that’s about it.
