The best pictures of Koru

In 2022, the 125.8-metre sailing yacht Koru made history when she hit the water at Oceanco ’s Alblasserdam facilities. Now successfully delivered, she is the flagship of the Oceanco fleet and the largest Dutch-built yacht in the world.

BOAT rounds up the best pictures of the three-masted sailing yacht owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos...

Koru unable to dock in Florida

Koru arrived at Port Everglades, Florida in November 2023 following a months-long Mediterranean cruise that included stopovers in Dubrovnik, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and Calabria (according to BOATPro ). The sailing yacht was too large to anchor in the nearby marina, which has a maximum capacity of 121.9 metres. She was photographed instead docking next to a 297-metre cruise ship named Rhapsody of the Seas .

Koru's helicopter landing

Last summer, Koru was spotted in the French Riveria alongside her 75-metre support vessel Abeona . Delivered by Damen Yachting two months before the mothership, Abeona is equipped with a helipad and hangar for a D14 value helicopter– which is clearly being put to good use. Accommodation is for up to 45 people onboard Bezos' support vessel, including crew, guests and other specialist staff.

Koru in Portofino

Koru and Abeona also travelled to Portofino in the summer of 2023, with both Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez sighted enjoying lunch and taking photographs while on board.

Koru's figurehead

Throughout construction, it was difficult to get a glimpse of the details on board Koru ; but once handed over, all of her traditional features could be admired up close. As well as the intricate gold paintwork and scarlet bootstripe, the yacht also features an elaborate figurehead made of polished wood. The woman is wearing a necklace with a symbol in the pendant, which some have speculated could be the Māori symbol meaning "koru".

Koru in front of Palma Cathedral

After delivery, the schooner spent some time enjoying the waters of Mallorca. The Balearic hotspot is a magnet for superyachts during the Mediterranean season, but Koru had the quiet anchorage largely to herself after leaving the Oceanco shipyard. Her classic lines could be appreciated in all of their glory against the backdrop of Palma Cathedral.

Koru delivered to Mallorca

In April 2023. Koru was delivered and undertook her maiden voyage from the Netherlands to Gibraltar. She then headed onwards to Palma, giving the world a first glimpse of her cascading aft decks, mighty masts and elaborate aft deck pool arrangement. She was flying solo in Mallorca, but was later joined by support vessel Abeona .

Koru in Gibraltar

Following her successful sea trials in Rotterdam, Koru embarked on journey to Palma, Mallorca that involved an overnight anchorage in Gibraltar. The sailing yacht was sighted passing through the Strait of Gibraltar a second time on her cross-continental journey from the Mediterranean to the USA in November 2023.

Koru on sea trials

Koru was spotted departing from Rotterdam in the early morning light of February 13 to begin sea trials. The 125.8-metre Oceanco set sail across the North Sea to put her performance to the test after hitting the water for the first time in August 2022. The traditional three-masted schooner yacht has a midnight blue hull, traditional canoe stern and the unique addition of a chair at the very tip of the bowsprit. Her name represents the idea of life’s perpetual movement and is a Māori word closely related to that of an unfurling leaf.

Koru with her masts stepped

The yacht was seen for the first time in her final form on the dock in the Port of Rotterdam. Her trio of masts was stepped here to avoid having to dismantle any bridges to allow the Oceanco giant yacht to pass under. The maximum height of the bridge is 70 metres; the masts on Koru are thought to measure between 65 and 85 metres. The first images of Koru indicate the yacht will have plenty of features for her owner to enjoy, including an aft deck pool and a large, uncluttered sundeck.

Koru launched

The 125.8-metre yacht was moved from Oceanco’s primary facilities at the crack of dawn to enter the final stages of construction. The hull was transported via Dordrecht and Spijkenisse (Oude Maas), and her masts were transported separately via the slightly shorter Rotterdam Centre (Nieuwe Maas).

Koru moves through the Dutch canals

Before she hit the water, the hull of Koru was loaded onto a transport vessel and she made the journey through the Dutch canals for further construction work. The yacht was captured against the backdrop of the quaint Dutch countryside, revealing her classic-looking lines and long rows of windows.

Koru from a bird's eye view

As she was wheeled out of the shed into the light of day, yacht-spotters were able to get their first proper aerial shot of the yacht, without her masts.

Koru rolls out of the shed

When Oceanco completed the work on the hull, the yacht was rolled out of the shed to reveal a crisp navy hull and white superstructure. Koru ’s exterior design immediately drew a comparison to Lürssen’s 93-metre sailing yacht Eos , which was designed by US-based Langan Design . This was the world’s first sighting of the already iconic superyacht.

Jeff Bezos' new megayacht set sail this summer, with the founder and former Amazon CEO and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez crisscrossing Europe to show it off.

At 417 feet long, the vessel is the world's largest sailing yacht and cost an estimated $500 million. The yacht is named Koru , which means "loop" or "coil" in the Māori language and often signifies new beginnings.

Koru joins a large class of flashy billionaires' yachts , including the 305-foot-long Eos, which belongs to billionaire Barry Diller and fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg.

Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison owns a yacht called Musashi, which is 288 feet long.

Bezos commissioned the enormous boat from the Dutch custom yacht builder Oceanco, and it took years to construct.

In February, the yacht underwent its first sea trials, a series of tests usually conducted in the last phases of construction. Koru made its maiden voyage in April, traveling from the Netherlands to Gibraltar.

The vessel has a pool on deck, and the prow features a mermaid sculpture that bears a striking resemblance to Bezos' then-girlfriend Sanchez. A second "support yacht," which has an on-deck helipad, accompanies Koru on its travels.

Sanchez has said the sculpture affixed to Bezos' yacht isn't her. "I'm very flattered, but it's not," she told Vogue. The sculpture is apparently of the Norse goddess Freyja, one of Bezos' favorite figures from mythology.

Bezos and Sanchez were first seen aboard the yacht along the coast of Spain in May, shortly before news broke that the couple had gotten engaged. The couple spent the rest of the summer on board traveling to various destinations, stopping at the Cannes Film Festival, sailing down the Italian Riviera, and making their way to Croatia.

In August, the yacht played host to an engagement party for Bezos and Sanchez , which reportedly drew guests including Bill Gates, Whitney Wolfe Herd, Ari Emanuel, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

While yacht season was apparently enjoyable for the couple, it was only after the vessel stirred up quite a bit of controversy: Koru's masts were so tall that the yacht nearly required the dismantling of a historic bridge in the Netherlands in order for it to pass through.

Locals planned to egg Bezos' superyacht if the bridge came down. Following the public outcry, Oceanco withdrew its request for the city to take apart the bridge.

And despite this massive purchase, Bezos' net worth is still well over $100 billion.

The yacht has also been at the center of massive, worldwide controversy. Back in February 2022, Oceanco requested that a centuries-old bridge in the port city of Rotterdam be partially dismantled in order to get the behemoth out and onto the high seas. The masts, which are the same height as the Great Pyramid of Giza, simply exceeded the bridge’s 131-foot clearance and thus prevented Koru from passing under. Rotterdammers were none too pleased and threatened to pelt the yacht with rotten eggs . The request was subsequently denied, and the yacht was instead discreetly towed through Rotterdam without its mast.

The designers behind the yacht’s interior and exterior are yet to be named, but it’s clear that she’s a timeless and elegant cruiser. Koru , which is a Māori for “new beginnings,” features a sleek black hull and white superstructure. She also sports a large pool on the aft deck and a number of plush alfresco lounges.

The epic design isn’t able to accommodate a helicopter, however, as the soaring masts make it too unsafe to land. As a result, Bezos commissioned a second yacht to hold his toys and tenders. Christened Wingman, the custom 246-footer is Damen’s largest support vessel to date. It’s a good match for monumental Koru , then.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' massive yacht has officially dropped anchor in Port Everglades.

Video captured by NBC6 shows the enormous 417-foot yacht docked in Port Everglades Tuesday weeks after the billionaire announced he was moving back to the Sunshine State, after spending nearly three decades in Seattle.

According to Boat International , the Koru is the world’s largest sailing yacht, and reportedly cost an estimated $500 million to build.

Bezos stepped down as the CEO of Amazon almost three years ago and said in a social media post that operations for his rocket company, Blue Origin, are “increasingly shifting” to Cape Canaveral, which is about 200 miles north of Miami.

Coincidentally, on Tuesday, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed to NBC6 that the company is searching for 50,000 square feet of leased office space in the Miami area as part of its organic growth over the past few years in the region.

Amazon currently has more than 400 corporate and tech employees assigned to our existing serviced office locations in the Miami area, but this office space would first base location in the city.

In October, Bloomberg News reported that Bezos had purchased a mansion in the area known as “Billionaire Bunker” for $79 million, after buying a neighboring estate for $68 million.

Bezos’ too-tall $500 million superyacht finally at sea

Jeff Bezos should have his new superyacht in time for the summer.

The 417-foot Koru left a shipyard in the Netherlands last week and anchored Wednesday off the coast of Spain near Mallorca, where it’s undergoing tests.

The Koru’s excursion is part of the sea trials where an owner puts the boat through its paces to make sure everything is working properly, according to a person familiar with its travels, who requested anonymity discussing private matters. It could return to the shipyard for final tweaks before being delivered.

The three-masted superyacht is estimated to have cost the Amazon founder more than $500 million. Bezos, 59, is the world’s third-richest person with a fortune of $126.2 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Previously known as Y721, the ship is now registered as Koru and is flying under a Cayman Islands flag. It’s the largest sailing yacht afloat, according to Boat International, and one of the biggest to be built by Alblasserdam, Netherlands-based Oceanco.

An Amazon spokesperson didn’t respond to a request for comment.

The superyacht’s size has caused a number of headaches for Bezos and its builders. The height of its masts was originally going to force the city of Rotterdam to dismantle a historic steel bridge, De Hef, for the boat to be able to make it to the ocean.

City officials initially agreed to temporarily take apart the bridge’s central section, but Oceanco ended up retracting the request amid public outcry. The shipbuilder eventually towed the vessel out to sea without its masts.

The size of the sails also meant that the yacht couldn’t have a helipad on board. Instead, Bezos and his helicopter pilot partner Lauren Sanchez will rely on a support boat, which is currently crossing the Atlantic with a destination of Gibraltar, according to vessel-tracking data.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is appears to be getting closer to welcoming the superyacht he reportedly commissioned in 2018: a fancy toy fitting for the world’s second-richest person, given that it costs a reported $500 million and breaks one world record after another.

Called Y721, this vessel of all vessels is being custom designed by Dutch builder Oceanco and was spotted at a shipyard last week in Zwijndrecht, a town in the western Netherlands. It’s reportedly heading to another Netherlands town, Alblasserdam, for a final fitting. With a length of 417 feet, Y721 is the biggest sailing yacht in the world and the longest vessel to be built in the Netherlands. Features include a black hull, classic shape, three large decks, and three masts.

Image may contain Transportation Vehicle Boat Yacht Vessel and Watercraft

Superyacht Bravo Eugenia , belonging to the U.S. billionaire Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, was built by Oceanco, which is also rumored to be behind Bezos’s new massive vessel.

Y721 is going to totally change the world of yachting with its design and innovation, says Fernando Nicholson, a luxury yacht sales broker with the yachting company Camper & Nicholsons. “It’s a boat with the latest technology and bells and whistles that have never been seen,” he says. “This will be the standard for all superyachts to follow, but in years to come, when its features become more affordable. Right now, only someone with Bezos’s wealth can swing the cost.”

The superyacht is said to be modeled after Oceanco’s famous yacht, the Black Pearl , which the company site says , “is one of the largest and most ecological sailing yachts in the world. She can cross the Atlantic without burning even a liter of fossil fuel.” Y721 will go through sea trails following its fitting-out in Alblasserdam and is expected to be ready sometime next year.

Image may contain Transportation Vehicle Boat and Yacht

The Flying Fox , allegedly owned by Bezos.

However, it’s only one of two new boats for Bezos: He has also commissioned a shadow vessel called YS 7512 from builder Damen Yachts. This support ship measures 246 feet in length and accommodates 45 additional crew and guests. It will also feature a helipad and meeting space and have a vast amount of storage for Bezos’s endless number of water toys, with diving and snorkeling gear, jet and water skis, waterslides, and surfboards among the bunch. Shadow vessels are a growing phenomenon in the superyacht industry and one more extra toy that their owners want to have at the ready, says Nicholson. “You see them more and more now as an add-on to a superyacht purchase,” he says. “They’ve almost become a must.”

There’s no doubt that Bezos will be sailing the high seas in full panache and style come 2022. But really, is there any other way when you have more money than almost anyone else in the world and attract an endless amount of attention too?

Jeff bezos’ unfinished mega yacht towed away after bridge drama, threats of egging.

Jeff Bezos’ unfinished mega yacht was towed away from a Dutch shipbuilding yard before dawn Tuesday just weeks after Rotterdam residents threatened to pelt the luxury vessel with eggs if the city went through with plans to dismantle a landmark bridge to make way for the $500 million ship.

The 417-foot long, three-masted yacht, which goes by the name Y721 , was relocated from the Oceanco shipyard in Alblasserdam to the Greenport yard just 24 miles away in Rotterdam, according to the German-language daily Der Spiegel.

Video of the towing was posted to YouTube by Dutch yacht enthusiast Hanco Bol.

“We never saw a transport going that fast,” Bol writes of what he witnessed. It took less than three hours for the ship to travel southwest along the Noord canal even though it normally requires nearly twice as much time to traverse the route, according to Bol.

Jeff Bezos' unfinished super yacht was towed away from a Dutch shipyard before dawn on Tuesday, according to a report out of Europe.

He speculates that Oceanco, the company that was commissioned to build the yacht, chose the timing of the move in order to keep it under wraps given the considerable publicity it has generated.

Rotterdammers who were furious about plans to dismantle “De Hef” bridge , also known as Koningshaven, had threatened to pelt the yacht with eggs if it made the journey.

Bol writes that the yacht’s route was designed to avoid traveling through the Rotterdam city center and underneath “De Hef” — even though it would have saved more time.

Oceanco, the shipbuilding company commissioned to construct the super yacht, dropped its demand for the city of Rotterdam to temporarily dismantle a landmark bridge, "De Hef," in order to allow the vessel to sail out to sea.

Oceanco last month announced that it had dropped its request for the Rotterdam city council to approve the temporary dismantling of the bridge.

The company had indicated that Bezos, the Amazon founder and second-richest person in the world, was willing to foot the bill for the removal of the middle section of the span so that the yacht would be able to sail through the Nieuwe Mass River.

Bol speculates that Oceanco intentionally avoided towing the unfinished yacht underneath “De Hef.”

“I think that was intentional,” he told Der Spiegel.

“When I was standing on one of the bridges, they shined a searchlight on me, so it wasn’t easy for me to take pictures.”

According to Dutch media reports, it will take several more months for the ship to be completed.

The Post has reached out to Amazon and Oceanco seeking comment.

Jeff Bezos pushed Dutch port city to dismantle historic bridge. Now, residents plan to egg his yacht.

jeff bezos yacht today

Jeff Bezos' superyacht is too large to pass through the Dutch port city of Rotterdam, so the town decided to dismantle the bridge. In retaliation, local residents vow to egg Bezos' yacht as it passed through.

As of Thursday, more than 14,000 people were "interested" and 4,000 confirmed they will attend a Facebook event titled "Throwing eggs at superyacht Jeff Bezos ."

The Dutch port city said it would temporarily break down the historic Koningshavenbrug Bridge because Bezos' 417-foot-long yacht won't fit, Agence France-Presse  reported .

"Calling all Rotterdammers, take a box of rotten eggs with you and let's throw them en masse at Jeff's superyacht when it sails through the Hef in Rotterdam," organizer Pablo Strörmann wrote in the Facebook post.

Jeff Bezos' superyacht dilemma: Jeff Bezos' superyacht won't fit through a historic bridge. So the town is dismantling it.

$100 million donation: Jeff Bezos donates $100 million to the Obama Foundation to honor John Lewis

Strörmann told NL Times the Facebook page started out as a joke among friends but "quickly struck a nerve" in the local community.

Bezos’ $485 million superyacht is being built by the Oceano shipyard in Alblasserdam, Netherlands. To make room for the yacht, the middle section of the huge steel bridge will be removed. Bezos will pay for the deconstruction of the bridge, according to the outlet, Dutch News reported .

The Koningshavenbrug bridge was built in 1878 and was reconstructed after being bombed by the Nazis in 1940 during World War II. Local backlash started after the local council promised it would never dismantle the bridge after a major renovation in 2017. Now residents are angered the government went back on that promise.

After the criticism,  Rotterdam's mayor told newspapers on Thursday "no decision has yet been taken, not even an application for a permit," according to The Guardian .

"Normally it’s the other way around: If your ship doesn’t fit under a bridge, you make it smaller. But when you happen to be the richest person on Earth, you just ask a municipality to dismantle a monument. That’s ridiculous," Strörmann told the NL Times.

Inside Jeff Bezos’ $400 Million Megayacht: The Flying Fox

With a net worth of $188 Billion dollars, Jeff Bezos owns some pretty incredible stuff. Let's take a look at his $400 million mega-yacht.

In July 2021, Amazon 's founder Jeff Bezos decided to finally leave the company he'd put much of his blood, sweat, and tears into, where he was not only the president but also the CEO - a position that was profusely intense and time-consuming, to say the least. With an estimated net worth of nearly $190 billion and an age of 57 at the time, it made sense for Bezos to leave his hard-working life behind to enjoy some of his well-earned bucks.

One of the first things Bezos did was what any billionaire would after or even before retirement: buy a massive yacht. Called 'The Flying Fox', the ultra-luxury boat was supposedly commissioned by the Amazon founder in 2019 to be built by Lürssen Yachts , and at a whopping price tag of around $400 million dollars, it's said to be the 18th largest yacht in the world in terms of overall size, and the 14th largest regarding interior space. Before getting on with this amazing yacht, make sure to check out this insane car that's also owned by Jeff Bezos.

The Flying Fox isn't just special because it's owned by Amazon's founder and one of the world's richest people, Jeff Bezos; it's also an incredible piece of machinery in its own right that's nothing short of a private luxury hotel that floats. Let's take a look inside:

Jeff Bezos' Flying Fox: An Overview Of The Megayacht's Interior

With a length of 466 feet and a width of 74 feet, The Flying Fox's gigantic size accommodates 22 pairs of guests in 11 different rooms, all with their very own private terraces and ensuite bathrooms. While the exterior and body of the yacht were designed by the widely renowned Naval Architect, Espen Øino, the interior was actually imagined by Mark Berryman, and it features a theme that gravitates mostly around wooden trimming and decor.

The mega-yacht has a total of 6 decks, and amongst them, you can find a two-story 4,300 square-foot spa with a wide variety of amenities including rain shower massages and a cryotherapy sauna, a 40-foot pool that can go from cold to warm in 10 seconds, an enormous outdoor dining deck catered by world-class chefs, and a gym just in case you feel the need to work out in the middle of the sea. Most important of all, however, is the master bedroom, which takes up an entire deck with 348 square feet and is basically a house within the yacht.

The Flying Fox Has An Entire World-Class Crew At Its Disposal

The $400 million yacht has a crew of 55 members, and all of them are the best of the best at what they do. There's a team of top-notch chefs, multiple masseurs, bartenders, gym and diving instructors, amongst many more. In terms of ship management, the crew is composed of members of the British military; which means they earn pretty high salaries for their efforts upon The Flying Fox. The captain of such a yacht can earn around $450,000 per year, while engineers make somewhere close between $100,000 and $150,000.

Passengers aboard The Flying Fox can expect an experience similar or even superior to that of an all-inclusive 5-star hotel; the added bonus is that this one can travel all around the world at an impressive top speed of 20 knots. Though it may not be as quick as this other mega-yacht you should take a look at later.

To summarize, The Flying Fox is a floating wonder that the overwhelming majority of us can only ever hope to experience, let alone own. We should clarify that Jeff Bezos' ownership of the mega-yacht is only alleged, and it cannot be confirmed for sure, but that doesn't change the fact that it's still one of the most exclusive and unattainable vehicles in the world.

In January, Sánchez dedicated a sweet Instagram post to Bezos on his birthday .

Alongside a collection of photos that included a picture of the businessman as a child and one of the couple together, she wrote, "Today is another day where your laughter fills our home, and that smile of yours lights up every room.”

“Wishing you an abundance of simple joys and quiet moments of happiness," Sánchez continued. "May this year be filled with everything you love, from peaceful mornings to joyous celebrations. I hope each day brings you countless reasons to smile, just like you give me a reason to smile every single day. Love you, and happy birthday, my love.”

AOC’s Net Worth

  • Politics and wealth often seem to go hand in hand, but Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez proves that service to the people matters more.
  • AOC's humble background and modest net worth stand out in a political world ruled by the wealthy.
  • Despite intense criticism, AOC remains dedicated to serving her constituents and fighting for real change.
  • AOC's net worth has been the subject of false rumors, placing it as high as $29 million.

In the current political climate, anyone could be forgiven for thinking politicians without massive fortunes are a myth, or at least a thing of the past.

"Politics" is often synonymous with wealth, because there is a widespread belief that a person will require lots of money and resources to win an election.

It might seem inviolable, but a career in politics is about serving the people, and managing and maintaining their needs — and who can do that better than people from their own districts, with lives and backstories much like their own?

But on the contemporary political scene, service to the people is an almost outdated notion; the wealthy and powerful flood money into elections so that when their backed candidates are in power, their moneyed backers can make even more money.

On the modern political stage, seldom do politicians with a non-affluent background emerge — and even less frequently, do they secure a chance to make a real change.

But Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – often known mononymously as AOC – pulled it off, as a brave young woman who broke many political traditions when breaking into the infamous Beltway .

AOC emerged as an honest and outspoken warrior to challenge the status quo and established political giants, and she speaks her mind:

But most surprisingly, Ocasio-Cortez was the youngest member of the 116th Congress, and she also emerged from a humble background; she is a rare gem in the crowded field of politicians and DC mainstays.

Today, we'll look at AOC’s net worth – which is extremely modest by Beltway standards – and learn how she managed to shine on the political stage in spite of her non-affluent background.

$200B Man Elon Musk Claims He Won't 'Share The Wealth' With Trump Or Biden

Young aoc defeated a political giant.

In 2017, an ambitious then 27-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez launched her political campaign against longstanding incumbent, Rep. Joseph Crowley.

Representing the 14th Congressional District, Joe Crowley was a political giant. No one had challenged Joe Crowley since 2004, and Crowley had held his office since 1999.

He was a ten-term incumbent, Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, and everyone was certain he would again win against a political rookie like AOC.

Rep. Crowley had significant resources at his disposal; he possessed power, money, tenure, and the support of most of his Democratic colleagues.

On the other hand, a 27-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who had just stepped into mainstream politics, was severely under-financed , and her supporters were fewer in number compared to Crowley's.

But she returned to the roots of politics, engaging with people, leveraging her keen understanding of social media platforms , and capturing myriad non-traditional media channels, to stay at the forefront for the Democratic voters in her New York district.

In June 2018, something unexpected happened in the United States in mainstream politics, which still reverberates.

A then 28-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defeated the fourth-ranking Democrat in the House, Rep. Joseph Crowley:

Not only did she win, she won by a significant margin, marking what the New York Times twice called a significant electoral upset .

AOC secured 57 percent of the vote, a massive 15 percent lead over Rep. Crowley, executing one of the greatest upsets in recent political memory — an even larger feat due to Crowley's lengthy Congressional tenure.

Jeff Bezos's $500 Million Yacht Is Too Big To Dock

Aoc’s political agenda and brave approach.

AOC, with hard work and dedication, crossed the victory line and became the youngest member of the 116th Congress, but her fight started in earnest when she stepped foot into the Capitol.

It was time to fight to resolve the very real problems of her constituency, as she promised her voters that she would battle to get Medicare For All, housing as a human right, and justice for workers and small businesses — all of which are huge issues, hampered by moneyed lobbies opposing change.

AOC is also an advocate for non-immigrant workers, a peaceful economy to halt the business of war, a flourishing green sector, women’s rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, and recovery for Puerto Rico, as her roots are in the oft-forgotten American territory.

All are mammoth undertakings, but Ocasio-Cortez is no longer a novice politician; she has become a headache for those who oppose her missions.

Among the most talked-about politicians in the United States (even outside her district), Rep. Ocasio-Cortez speaks her mind.

Even former President Donald Trump has criticized the Democratic progressive group colloquially known as "The Squad," of which she is a part.

"The Squad" includes young and extremely talented Democratic politicians: Reps. Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Cori Bush, and Jamaal Bowman.

According to Trump, their criticisms of his leadership were unwarranted, and he thought they should "go back and help fix" things in their own districts, evidencing the frustration AOC caused the former President.

AOC is a famously and unapologetically progressive lawmaker, and far-right politicians like Republican lawmaker Paul Gosar have aimed extreme hatred at her.

In 2021, Paul Gosar edited a clip of the anime series Attack On Titan, and depicted himself as a "hero" who "killed" AOC in the edited video .

At the time, Ocasio-Cortez said of Gosar's behavior:

"So while I was en route to Glasgow, a creepy member I work with who fundraises for Neo-Nazi groups shared a fantasy video of him killing me ... And he'll face no consequences bc [House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy] cheers him on with excuses.

"Fun Monday! Well, back to work bc institutions don't protect [women of color]."

Another GOP lawmaker, Rep. Ted Yoho of Florida, verbally abused her. Later, he apologized only for his statements, not to the person he attacked.

AOC vehemently condemned these incidents, which she characterized as endemic behavior from across the aisle.

The intense reactions of rival party members towards her is proof that she represents a genuine threat, both to the status quo and to longstanding political agreements that don't favor everyday Americans.

We Thought You Should Know About Morgan Wallen's Net Worth

Aoc's net worth remains modest, despite years in politics.

One more thing evidencing AOC's honesty is that while she has been serving for more than five years, unlike most politicians, she hasn't accumulated a huge amount of money , nor does she seem to receive political perks for personal gain.

According to Yahoo! Finance, AOC's net worth is estimated at a modest $200,000 .

She was the subject of false rumors to the contrary, claiming AOC's net worth had reached the very specific and unsubstantiated sum of $29 million .

One of the youngest, most popular political talents in the United States today, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did not go into politics solely for her own financial gain; she is one of the rare politicians who enter the field to improve conditions for her constituents as well as Americans in other districts.

AOC's Net Worth And Reported Financial Details, Recapped

AOC's Congressional salary is $174,000 annually, meaning she earns $14,500 per month.

In 2018, she disclosed the total of her savings account in the pre-set disclosure bracket of $1,001 to $15,000.

However, in their coverage of AOC's first financial disclosures, CNBC reported that the race depleted her savings:

"The 2018 race took its toll on her finances, Corbin Trent, director of communications for Ocasio-Cortez, tells CNBC Make It. 'She’s had to dip into her savings since that was filed.

"'She’s down to well below $7,000 now' in that account, and the amount in her 401(k) hasn’t changed as she has not been contributing to it in recent months while she has been living off of her savings. Trent said he was unable to comment on her current checking account balance."

In 2021, when she made her most recent disclosure statement, AOC declared $3,000 to $45,000 in assets, including a 401(k) plan, savings, and her checking account.

Like many young Americans, AOC still owes $15,000 in student loans; in 2018, her student loan debt stood at $50,000.

Many Americans do not agree with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's ideology; some disapprove of her approach to politics wholesale.

But few question her intent to fight for change, nor her honesty.

This signals that AOC is emerging as a serious contender for higher public positions, including possibly the presidency in the future — but at 34, Ocasio-Cortez remains ineligible to run for that office .

Ultimately, Washington needs fiery young talents like AOC: she is fierce, honest, opinionated, and, most importantly, she follows through with her political stances and continues to clamor for change.

What is Blue Origin? Its towering rocket in Cape Canaveral, connection to Jeff Bezos

Amazon is a company most Americans, scratch that, most people in the world are familiar with.

But what about Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ space company? Back in 2000, billionaire Bezos founded Blue Origin .

The company created buzz this week when it moved its gigantic rocket , we’re talking as tall as a 30-story building, to a launch pad in Cape Canaveral. This is the first time the public can view the advanced, heavy-lift New Glenn rocket.

It's all exciting stuff, but what exactly does Bezos's company Blue Origin do?

What is the mission of Blue Origin?

Blue Origin’s mission is “building a road to space so our children can build the future.”

To do this, the company is developing reusable launch vehicles and in-space systems for civil, commercial and defense customers. Its customers include United Launch Alliance and NASA.

What are the Blue Origin launch vehicles and rockets?

Blue Moon is a single-launch , lunar cargo lander. It will remain on the moon’s surface and provide access to the lunar environment.

NASA contracted Blue Origin for the Blue Moon to be part of the Artemis program.

New Shepard, designed for space tourism , is a fully reusable suborbital launch vehicle. It is named after Alan Shepard, the first American astronaut in space.

Bezos, his brother and two other passengers took the first flight on the vehicle July 20, 2021. There have since been six other missions with passengers that have included actor William Shatner and Hall of Fame football player Michael Strahan.

Each flight lasts about 10 minutes.

If buying a seat on one of these missions isn’t in the cards for you, head to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex . A new virtual reality experience allows guests to sit in a similar capsule and take a ride on the next closest thing.

New Glenn, named after astronaut John Glenn, was moved this week to Launch Complex 36 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The more than 320-foot rocket will remain upright for one week of testing.

Among the largest space vehicles ever built, New Glenn has a reusable first stage, expendable upper stage and jumbo-sized 7-meter-diameter nose cone fairing to enclose large payloads.

Blue Origin officials remain tight-lipped regarding the New Glenn target inaugural launch date. Company officials only said it will happen this year .

Blue Origin vs. SpaceX

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos started Blue Origin in 2000, while Elon Musk created SpaceX in 2002. But the billionaires have taken markedly different paths in developing orbital rockets, said Laura Forczyk, founder and executive director of the Atlanta space consulting firm Astralytical. She does not view Blue Origin as a short-term competitor to SpaceX.

"They've had just as much time as SpaceX. They've had just as much time as SpaceX — but they've been taking their time. They've been very deliberate. And they have different areas of interest," Forczyk said.

SpaceX rockets accounted for 68 of the Space Coast's 72 orbital launches last year,  along with nine of the 10 launches thus far in 2024 . That represents 94% of that 82-launch total.

Conversely, Forczyk said Blue Origin's sights are focused on lunar development. Last May,  Blue Origin secured a $3.4 billion contract to develop a human landing system for NASA's Artemis V mission  to send astronauts to the moon.

"Right now, they're not even competing for the same customer base in the short term. In the long term is where things might change. Because in the long term, we do have (SpaceX's) Starship becoming operational and increasing its cadence, and we just don't know what that's going to look like yet," Forczyk said.

"But what's interesting will be how New Glenn and ULA's Vulcan and Starship all compete in the long run," she said.

Who is Jeff Bezos?

Bezos consistently ranks among the richest people in the world. He’s currently No. 3 on the list, behind Bernard Arnault and Elon Musk.

The billionaire has many ties to Florida as he went to high school in South Florida and reportedly owns two homes there. One of his mansions was purchased for a whopping $79 million while the other was a bargain at $68 million.

Bezos graduated from Princeton University in 1986 with degrees in electrical engineering and computer science. Prior to Blue Origin, Bezos founded the shopping empire Amazon in the mid-90s.

He is a father to four children with his ex-wife MacKenzie. He is engaged to former media personality Lauren Sanchez.

Where is Blue Origin's headquarters?

The company is headquartered in Washington, but has a presence in other states. Van Horn, Texas is the launch and landing site for the New Shepard vehicles.

Where is Blue Origin located in Brevard County Florida?

Blue Origin operates out of a massive manufacturing complex at 8082 Space Commerce Way Merritt Island, not far from the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex .

Jeff Bezos’ fiancée unveiled a new project in Miami. You can find it on (yes) Amazon

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Lauren Sanchez has a lot of things cooking.

No, really. Jeff Bezos ’ fiancée was front and center at Aspen Ideas , a three-day conference at the Miami Beach Convention Center, focused on finding climate-change solutions.

On Tuesday evening, Sanchez took to the podium in her role as vice chair of the Bezos Earth Fund, and announced a whopping $60 million investment to help establish the Bezos Centers for Sustainable Protein. The Centers will address challenges facing the alternative protein industry, aka lab-grown and plant-based meats.

“Trust me, I’ve had them,” the Indian Creek resident told the crowd. “And you can hardly tell the difference. I really like ‘em.”

Sanchez, 54, also took the opportunity to announce a new, more personal project, a children’s book called “The Fly Who Flew to Space,” now available for pre-order ( on Amazon, naturally ).

The story follows Flynn, a curious, underachieving fly who has dreams of becoming an astronaut. One day while buzzing around the local rocket company, he accidentally gets launched into space. On his far-reaching journey, he gets an education about the Earth’s natural resources, “from amazing natural wonders, like the rainforest, to the atmosphere that protects it all.”

Sanchez, who flies helicopters and has her own aviation company, told People magazine recently that she actually had the idea for the plot long before meeting the Amazon founder , who also owns Blue Origin aerospace manufacturer in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The $19.99 book went through some edits and tweaks over time, and will be out on shelves in September.

On Instagram last week Sanchez showed off the colorful cover, which features adorable, bug-eyed Flynn, and doubles as a poster.

“I’m beyond grateful b/c this story holds a piece of my heart,” said the former TV journalist’s post. “It’s a celebration of overcoming challenges, the joy of learning, and dreaming beyond the stars.”

Jeff Bezos’s rocket company could race SpaceX to the moon.

Which billionaire space company will get to the moon first: Elon Musk’s SpaceX or Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin?

At first glance, SpaceX seems to have a huge head start. It is about to launch the third test flight of Starship. A variation of Starship is scheduled to take NASA astronauts to the surface of the moon as soon as September 2026.

By contrast, Blue Origin has yet to launch anything into orbit, and its contract with NASA for a lunar lander for astronauts is for a mission that is launching in 2030.

But Blue Origin might still get there first. SpaceX faces major challenges with Starship, which is as tall as 16-story building, while Blue Origin plans to send a smaller cargo lander to the moon by the end of next year.

“This lander, we’re expecting to land on the moon between 12 and 16 months from today,” John Couluris, senior vice president of lunar permanence at Blue Origin, said during a n interview on the CBS News program “60 Minutes” this month.

The first launch of the Mark 1 version of the Blue Moon lander is what Blue Origin calls a “pathfinder” to test technologies like the BE-7 engine, the flight computers, avionics and power systems — the same systems that will be used in the much larger Mark 2 lander that will take astronauts to the moon’s surface.

The Mark 1 lander can carry up to three tons of cargo to the lunar surface, but will be small enough to fit inside one of Blue Origin’s New Glenn rockets . New Glenn has yet to fly, but the company says its debut journey will occur later this year.

After Blue Moon Mark 1 is launched into an orbit about 125 miles above Earth’s surface, the lander’s BE-7 engine will propel it toward the moon, slowing it down to enter orbit around the moon and then guiding it to the landing on the surface.

The smaller size means that the Mark 1 lander, unlike Starship, will not need to be refueled before leaving Earth orbit. Demonstrating that refueling technology in orbit will be a key test to validate Starship’s design. Refueling will also be needed for the Blue Moon Mark 2 lander.

Mr. Musk and Mr. Bezos have already been beaten to the moon by another billionaire, Kam Ghaffarian , one of the founders of Intuitive Machines, which put a small robotic lander named Odysseus near the lunar south pole in February . That was the first private spacecraft to successfully make it to the moon’s surface in one piece (although its journey had some hiccups ).
