2017 River Ships

' src=

The deluxe 5 star MS Monarch Empress , which debuted in April 2016, is the very first European river ship built by Gate 1 specifically to suit U.S. travelers.   On the MS Monarch Empress, you’ll enjoy some of the most spacious and comfortable accommodations on Europe’s rivers, no matter which cabin category you’re sailing in.   Cabins range in size from 140 to 210 square feet and feature soothing blue and white interiors, cherry wood accents and top-of-the-line furnishings.   80 percent of the cabins also offer French balconies, providing private views of the stunning riverbanks.   Other state-of-the-art amenities include a sundeck lounge, a generously sized library, a dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows, and an elevator to whisk passengers between decks.   What’s more, because we own the ship, we fully control the quality of your experience. The MS Monarch Empress is staffed by Gate 1, with Tour Managers, waitstaff, chefs, housekeepers, and more all committed to ensuring you have the most memorable experience on Europe’s waterways.

The MS Monarch Queen & MS Monarch Baroness are first class river cruise vessels chartered exclusively by Gate 1 Travel.   Built in 2006, with a maximum capacity of 144 passengers, these sister ships feature 68 spacious outside cabins and 4 suites (170-225 sq ft) each fully air-conditioned with private bath facilities, shower, telephone and flat screen TV.

For 2017, the MS Monarch Empress will be joined by our two privately chartered ships, the MS Monarch Queen and the MS Monarch Baroness.   The Ms Monarch Empress and the MS Monarch Baroness will sail amidst the rainbow of colors along Holland’s waterways in Spring 2017.   After the height of the tulip season, both the MS Monarch Empress and MS Monarch Queen will introduce travelers to the romantic waters of the Danube, sailing between Regensburg and Budapest.   For her part, the MS Monarch Baroness will explore the lilting waters of Germany’s Rhine River between Basel and Amsterdam.   She will also be joined by the MS Monarch Queen with our 14-night sailings along the Rhine, Main, & Danube Rivers between Amsterdam and Budapest.

MONARCH QUEEN

River Voyager - Lounge

Modern, elegant and jazz – this is a special river boat. Bright rooms and lots of space for your guests await you. The interior design was inspired by the style of Art Deco. But not only in terms of colours, shapes and decoration, the guests feel transported back to the 1920s and 1930s, but also through photos that remind of the Golden Era of Jazz.

The large panoramic windows guarantee the best views of the passing waterside landscape and the spacious sun deck invites guests to relax. In the spacious cabins, your guests will recharge their batteries for new discoveries along the river. The Bourbon Street Bistro serves exquisite specialities, while the bar in the Blue Note Lounge invites guests to enjoy a fine drop of wine.

I am planning to take a land tour and Danube river cruise in May on Gate 1 Monarch Queen.  One of your reviewers said in 2017 the ship looked dated and was very critical.  Then I read elsewhere this ship was only built in 2016!  Your editors may want to delete that clearly false review.  Thanks

This is a new casino a bit out there. It's pretty small but didn't feel cramped inside. They have a large selection of table games including craps where you actually have chips and a dealer (unlike Talking Stick). The table minimums were also reasonable. This place also has a huge sports book. Parking is free and easy. There's an attached parking garage. Unfortunately no EV charging stations though. That'd be a nice addition.

Photo of Steve E.

I will start with the positive. The place is brand new, the design is clean and bright. No smoking is a plus. The staff that I dealt with at the restaurant (Honey and Vine) were super friendly. Ok. The food was a bit pricey and not very good. My chopped salad was Heavily dressed, but still managed to have little flavor. I didn't eat it all. Mediocre. The gambling was too tight across the board. Played blackjack and slots. Lost and lost. A fun casino experience to me there is a little give and take. If that happens, I don't mind losing a bit, because there is a fun ride. This place just takes and takes. I won ONE bonus on multiple machines. The jackpot for 6 free games on a Buffalo? $5.76. Finally, look. There is no business response to any of these multiple, negative reviews. This is a place that simply seems to not care, as long as folks keep dumping their hard-earned money here. Terrible experience. No fun. Stay away.

Lots of the complaints here are about the slots/games not paying out. We actually left with more money than we came with and still had our night ruined because this place is so awful. The bartenders/staff were rude and one bartender girl needed to go home for the night clearly. I wish I caught her name, but my friend made one joke (wasn't even talking to the bartender) and before she gave us our shots she killed the mood entirely. I've never seen someone suck the life out of a group of friends so fast. She went on a whole rant about how ASU students would try to drink with fake IDs. What does that have to do with us? We are all late 20's, so sorry for not being 80 years old like everyone else I guess? She realized she messed up and tried to make up for it, but we were quick to get up and go to another bar. It was unbelievably awkward and I'm glad my friend left the tip that she did after that interaction. The guy at the other bar was lame too. He spent half the time telling us the "rules" and how he wouldn't be able to give us more than a couple drinks. No one in my group was wasted, but he made it a point after I spilled a little of my drink on my pants. What a joke! You are treating us like children even though we are clearly able to be here like anyone else. Even the security was rude from the moment we walked in. I went up to him to ask about smoking, and instead of saying 'yes or no' he made a smarty-pants remark. How is this the guy you have working in the front where people come in. This place is small and not worth the trip. I would literally go to any other casino in Arizona where people are normal.

Photo of Katie L.

Really nice casino, smaller but not cramped at all for a busy Friday night. Loved that it was super clean.

Bar

We don't live very far from this casino, and we were really excited about it when we heard that they were putting it in. We went over and checked it out today and it's definitely beautiful, it wasn't very crowded at all, I think the sports book was our favorite part. Unfortunately, we like to have a few cocktails, and there is absolutely no way that we could do that here. Everything is so overpriced and I don't expect that will ever change. It's unfortunate because we were really hoping to be able to spend some time here. They have a little food court with a Starbucks, a pizza place, and Chinese food. They also have a really nice restaurant called Honey and Vine but again, so over priced. We didn't gamble too much, but I did hear a few people yelling loudly, so I'm assuming some people are winning.

Very clean, personnel very nice. Enjoyed the experience there. Went to the little cafe there and the food was really good. A little expensive but everything seems to be high priced now.

The worst !! In valley.. Total shame for new Casino.. maybe in 20 year's they'll finally get it right. MAYBE.

Photo of Josiah V.

I really wanted to like this place. I came from out of town with a couple of buddies, and from the start this place gave me terrible anxiety. Me and my friends look very young, and usually it's never a big issue, but here I was treated like a criminal for it. They were watching me all night and I can tell because near the end of our trip to this terrible terrible casino, we were approached by security because of our situation. He knew the whole situation and we were In our car mind you. So if you like being watched very closely and love a place that doesn't even hide how much they need to take your money from you, this is the spot to stop when in town. The whole casino was a ghost town. Desert diamond is a much better choice and didn't make me feel like a criminal on the same that night.

Photo of Edward D.

My wife and I decided to check out the new casino. Most if not all of the casinos in the valley are owned by two tribes. They are all very similar. Since this location is new, you are experiencing all the new games and new looks. However, you are also experiencing growth pain. We had a very enjoyable experience. Played many different games. Luckily, we visited on a Sunday. So it was not that busy, however I can see this place being very congested on a Friday or Saturday since this is not a large facility. Would we come back? Absolutely!

Photo of Marlene C.

It was grand opening weekend June 30- July 1st. Stopped by on Saturday around 7 pm. It was very busy and parking garage was filling up. I parked on the 2nd floor and made my way to elevator. There is no connection to the casino from the parking garage, as most casinos have. The elevator didn't have any signs to what floor to go to but common sense is it's the 1st floor. As soon as you get out of the elevator the valet is on the right and casino to the left. As I walked up there was a patio area with umbrellas that was enclosed. A digital menu of Honey & Vine. When I got to the doors there were 2 side doors to manually open and 1 automatic, where a security guard was greeting people. Honey & Vine has a lot of people and there was a line to be seated. I made my way to players window to get a card. There wasn't much direction just 4 lines. A security guard and worker managing the line. Which was placed in the middle of the walk way. I asked the worker what event was happening today. She said, "I don't know." Then on one of the screens it showed Gabby Barrett (country) was playing there. I also asked them how many machines were on the floor and they didn't know. Staff should know what event is happening and how many machines there are. The food court was interesting. It had maybe 10 tables to sit at and was located near the event center. There was a line already formed for people to get in. The food court Taste Kitchen had Starbucks, Mein Dish, & Rizzo's. There were long lines for this and hardly anywhere to sit and enjoy a meal. Plus I over heard people complain it was expensive & food wasn't good. There are multiple bathroom sites. The bathroom by the main entrance was clean and had a lot of stalls. There are automatic handwashing stations, and two large lit mirrors. As you walk around the outer area outside there are two smoking areas. Both had tables to sit at and small signs that stated "smoking area." Even though there are people inside who were vaping, I didn't see signs that said it was prohibited. The Sportsbook area had lots of seating and even areas to charge your phone if you brought a usb-cord. It had large TVs with sporting events going on. I will be sure to check out this casino in the future and see if things have improved. It's is a bit smaller than most the casinos around the area.
