Sail Area / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

- SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
- D : Displacement in pounds.
Ballast / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. Comfort Ratio

Capsize Screening Formula

Early hulls, which include molded stub keels, are solid fiberglass, while more recent versions are solid below the waterline and cored above. A later version became the SNOWGOOSE ELITE (1986) had 1 foot more beam. The SNOWGOOSE 37 (all iterations) was enormously popular with more than 500 built.

What another great listing for Boatshed Cornwall. This Prout Snowgoose Elite catamaran has been listed for sale here in Cornwall. This is the updated version of the standard Snowgoose 37 with a slightly wider beam.
"PRICE REDUCED"
This catamaran was found afloat on the pontoon mooring and first impressions suggested a yacht that had been kitted out for some long passage-making. Once onboard, it appeared to have many improvements, particularly with the navigation fit out.
Other things of note are; Renewed engine (2011) Renewed standing rigging (2011) Renewed sails (2012) Renewed fuel tank (2011)
Overall, it would seem there has been a lot invested in this Prout Snowgoose Elite and it is understood to reflect a plan to sail to Portugal. However, COVID managed to spoil those plans. This seems to be a well cared for yacht and is a fine example, although some may not appreciate the interior decor.
Still worth a viewing though, if you are interested in catamarans.

Notes. Early hulls, which include molded stub keels, are solid fiberglass, while more recent versions are solid below the waterline and cored above. A later version became the SNOWGOOSE ELITE (1986) had 1 foot more beam. The SNOWGOOSE 37 (all iterations) was enormously popular with more than 500 built.

Hi! My husband and I have recently found a Prout 37 Catamaran (regular not elite) we would like to put an offer on. The listing price is 95,000. I do not know what to offer as to not offend the seller. The boat definitely needs work as little has been replaced since its purchase date in 1996. The engine is diesel with 2000 hrs, so I think that should be in working condition for a bit.
Prout 37 Snowgoose mast, center of gravity & cabin head height The mast on a Prout 37 needs to be tensioned so that it is perpendicular to the waterline with zero rake. I use measurements from the bootstrap to obtain that 90 degree angle. The center of gravity on these boats are just in front of the mast and aft bulkhead.
