The VanDutch 32 Is Stylish and Speedy

  • By Victor Tan
  • November 15, 2021

VanDutch 32

VanDutch’s 32-footer is the new entry-level vessel in the Dutch brand’s five-model range, which also includes 40-, 48-, 56- and 75-foot yachts. Like its larger siblings, the VanDutch 32 retains the brand’s minimalistic, windowless hull styling. Italian shipyard Cantiere del Pardo recently purchased the brand and is building the new model.

The VanDutch 32’s helm station is to port and has a single helm seat with a backrest and two cup holders. There is additional forward-facing seating for one, parallel with the captain’s seat and separated by the belowdecks entrance on centerline. Forward, there’s a wet bar; under it, there’s an 11-gallon fridge. A fridge under the captain’s seat is also available. Abaft and to starboard, there’s L-shaped seating for six guests.

Garmin electronics and a 12-inch display are standard, or owners can choose the optional 16-inch display.

Tunes are an essential part of a day on the water, and the VanDutch 32 has a Fusion stereo system with Bluetooth connectivity. Helm-controlled LED lighting illuminates the cockpit, and Silvertex fabrics and quick-dry foam are used for the cushions. Easy-to-clean and durable synthetic teak is found in the VanDutch 32’s sole as well as on the foredeck.

VanDutch 32

Abaft the L-shaped seating, there’s a sun pad for at least three guests to catch midday rays. To port is fender stowage and a walkway that accesses the swim platform. Guests can take a quick dip before breakfast and then climb back aboard using the built-in hideaway ladder in the transom.

Belowdecks, there are 64 square feet of real estate and a maximum of 6-foot-6-inch headroom. Two sofas with stowage underneath flank the centerline companionway that leads to the forepeak head. The head has a rounded ceramic sink, a mirror with LED lighting, and pullout stowage.

The VanDutch 32’s standard power is a single Volvo Penta V-8 430-CE gasoline engine sans joystick. Other options from Volvo Penta include twin V-6 280-CE gasoline engines, a D6-380/DPI diesel, or twin D4-300/DPI diesels. The optional engines all come with joystick control. According to the builder, the VanDutch 32’s top-end speed is around 45 knots. At a 25-knot cruise speed, range is reportedly 150 nautical miles.

On test. VanDutch 40: the new icon of exclusive luxury

  • Giorgio Bruno
  • August 16, 2022

With her rich style and personality, the VanDutch 40 is not a boat for everyone. Owning her means having not just a boat, but a form of art with a unique minimalist style, recognizable in every detail.

That VanDutch is synonymous with luxury and extremely accurate design is a fact since the VanDutch 32 model, although being over ten years old, has rightfully entered the rankings of the most desirable and cult boats of the market. After having acquired the VanDutch brand , Cantiere del Pardo has succeeding in bringing all its expertise and Italian know-how on board these boats through the use of new technologies and new materials, making the purchase of a VanDutch the consequence of not just a desire to go out to sea pushing on the gas, but to own an artwork , an exclusive item of which the owner feels like an elite representative. With the new VanDutch 40, which we tested on the waters of Lake Garda, this characteristic has reached its maximum expression with hull lines that, although remaining faithful to the styling choices of this luxury icon, however surpass them to reach new goals.

vandutch-40-exterior

Minimalist and clean-cut lines reflect great research and attention to detail: from any angle you look at it, there is balance in form and size in the VanDutch 40. The concealed cleats, the hidden anchor and the absence of anything superfluous topify the statement coined by German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, “less is more”.

windscreen

Two large L-shaped and opposing sofas frame the central table, which has an icebox inside, very handy during the summer for drinks and bottles; two other fridges are located under the sink unit to the right of the companionway. On the left, on the other hand, the helm console features a single seat where three people can sit comfortably: from here, in addition to navigation, everything is under control , from the lighting to the sound system, thanks also to two 12-inch Garmin displays.

VanDutch_40_Interior_Features

Compared to the predecessors, the engine soundproofing has been improved through a greater reduction in vibrations and the styling improved through an even more contemporary design, making comfort on board exciting and unique.

VanDutch 40 Sea Trial

Going out to sea with a VanDutch is always a strong emotion for me. I find myself aboard the ultimate contemporary expression of luxury and status symbol that this boat has represented for some years now. Today Lake Garda gives us a wonderful sunny day with little wind. At the helm, Gigi Servidati takes us to discover the most enchanting areas before letting me take the helm for the test.

At the first contact with the helm, I immediately realize that the VanDutch 40 responds to the controls perfectly , also because there are many boats on the water. I am forced to correct my course several times, and this allows me to really test the boat’s performance at low speeds and with multiple changes of direction.

At 1,500 rpm, thanks to its clean water lines, the boat already runs at almost 10 knots with a consumption of 2.2 l/mg: already at this speed I can appreciate the navigation, with very low noise on board and minimal turbulence thanks to the large windscreen protecting the entire cockpit. I accelerate to get the planing speed and, at 1800 rpm and 13 knots, the wake comes off and the VanDutch 40 gets up on plane with a truly amazing smoothness and stability.

boat test

I try to perform a couple of tight turns at 24/26 knots and I realize that I might as well leave the steering wheel because, I almost don’t believe it, the hull is truly stunning and I remain speechless in the face of so much stability.

Powered by two Volvo D6 380 diesels, at 2500 rpm and 23 knots, the fuel consumption is around 3.2L/Mg. The following are our test data.

Getting off such beauty is always complicated and I must confess that I would have loved to choose one of the many wonderful places on the lake, drop anchor and have a good cocktail on board. The VanDutch 40 is a truly amazing boat.

VanDutch 75

The intention of Cantiere del Pardo was to reinterpret the unmistakable VanDutch style in a more contemporary and Mediterranean key. To achieve this, it turned to the BurdissoCapponi Yachts&Design firm in Ravenna, which chose to start from a new concept for the interiors, in which the “Black and White” style with lacquered finish (typical of the VanDutch Yachts brand) is adjusted by using a black and material essence that contrasts with the lighter, noble materials, such as the suede of the upholstery, the lacquer of the slats and the fabric of the ceiling covers.

CHOOSE YOUR MOOD

Internally, the VanDutch 75 features two layout options, one standard and one optional; in all configurations, the comfortable crew cabin, with two bunk beds and bathroom with shower (as well as a wardrobe and washing machine/dryer column), is always positioned aft. The standard version includes a large dinette with open-plan kitchen, sofa with transformable table and VIP cabin in the bow with its own bathroom, which has two doors because it is also used as day head; at the stern are the twin cabin (on the left, with its own bathroom), and the owner’s cabin (on the starboard, with bathroom and large wardrobe for him and her). The optional version with 2 cabins and 3 bathrooms differs from the previous one due to the large aft owner’s suite, which has a desk, sofa and walk-in dressing room, worthy of boats that are decidedly larger. Cantiere del Pardo’s commitment and passion for this project are also evident in the wide range of customisations offered to customers, who are involved in every phase of the project and will be able to choose between different colour palettes to create, in their yacht, the atmosphere closest to their personality and “mood”.

van dutch yacht interior

PERFECT DETAILS

Although aimed at the Open market, the VanDutch 75 stands out for a number of details aimed at the world of cruising and that make it one-of-a-kind: the up & down swim platform, the garage for the tender with launching and hauling system, the autonomy (4,000 litres of fuel), the speed (35/36 knots cruising speed), the wide range of customisations and, above all, the intelligent distribution of spaces that make the most of the volumes, offering livability and comfort levels rarely found on yachts of this size and type.

Being the “progenitor” model of a new future range, the VD 75 was the subject of an in-depth analysis and research operation aimed at identifying the elements that, by defining the style of the vessel, will be continued and applied (in various versions) on later models, in order to create a recognisable and undisputed “family feeling”. Among these are the typical VD “Luminous porthole” (created to add character to windowless walls, with an element that becomes a decorative object and, at the same time, brings to mind a porthole), the retro-look upholstery with ribbed stitching (inspired by the world of luxury cars), the pattern of horizontal lacquered slats in the ceiling covers that hides the air conditioning vents, the Quick track lighting system (customised for nautical use) and luxury materials interpreted in a modern key, such as briarwood, mahogany and metals that are matt black and copper with a satin finish.

The Most Beautiful Stations on the Moscow Metro

van dutch yacht interior

You might have heard that there are some beautiful metro stations in Moscow. Soviet decorations, chandeliers, mosaic painting and statues are common in many of the stations. The good news is that the Moscow Metro does not cost a lot of money and many of the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro are on the same line, so you can almost get on and off at each station to visit these. Over the New Year holidays, I had a free afternoon and decided to visit some of these stations. Check out what I found below…..

The main stations that you will want to visit are on the Number 5 line, also known as the Circle Line. An advantage of this line is that you can get to it very easily and quickly no matter where you are in Moscow. The announcements on the metro are in Russian as well as English so you don’t need to worry if your Russian language skills are not good.

If, like me, you arrive in Moscow via train from Kyiv , then you will arrive at a metro station which many Muscovites believe to be the most beautiful of them all…..

Kievskaya metro station was opened in 1954 and features white marble walls which curve upwards and have with large mosaics surrounded by a gold trim in a very classical style. The mosaics depict life in Ukraine and was designed by a Ukrainian who wanted to display Ukraine’s influence and contribution to Soviet Russia.

Belorusskaya

If you look at a map of the metro , you will want to go in a clockwise direction on the circle line. So you will want to get on the train going in the Barrikadnaya direction and not Park Kultury. Stay on this line until you reach the 2nd station, Belorusskaya. This station was built in 1952 and like Kievskaya also features white marble pylons and a plaster ceiling.

The ceiling features 12 mosaics in an octagonal shape depicting Belarusian life, while the tiling on the floor is said to resemble a Belarusian quilt. One of the passageway exits of the station has a statue called ‘Belarusian Partisans’ of three men wearing long coats, holding guns and carrying a flag.”

Mayakovskaya

To get to the next station, we need to change onto the green line (line 2) and go just one stop to the station of Mayakovskaya. This station has an art deco theme and, for some, resembles an elaborate ballroom. The columns are faced with stainless steel and pink rhodonite while the marble walls and ceiling have 34 mosaics with the theme “24-hour Soviet Sky. Apparently, Stalin resided here during the 2nd World War as the station was used as a command post for Moscow’s anti-aircraft regiment.

Novoslobodskaya

It’s time to get back on the metro and return to Belorusskaya. At Belorusskaya, change to the circle line again and continue clockwise to the next station, Novoslobodskaya. With its 32 stained glass panels, this station reminds me of a church. The panels were designed by Latvian artists and are surrounded by a brass border.

Prospekt Mira

Back on the metro and again just one stop until our next station, Prospekt Mira. This station was originally called Botanichesky Sad after the nearby Botanical Gardens of the Moscow State University. The pylons are covered in white marble and decorated with floral bas-relief friezes. The ceiling is decorated with casts and several cylindrical chandeliers.

Komsomolskaya

On the metro once more and once more we are going just one stop to the next station – Komsomolskaya. This station is famous for its its yellow ceiling. The chandeliers in this station are huge. The photos below do not do this station justice.  For me, this station resembles a presidential palace.  You hace to see it for yourself to truly appreciate it.

Because of it’s location, this is one of the busiest stations in the Moscow metro as it serves three of the main train stations in the city – Leningradsky, Yaroslavsky, and Kazansky so be prepared for a lot of people.

Elektrozavodskaya

When you are ready to leave Komsomolskaya metro station behind, then get back on the circle line and go one stop to Kurskaya and change to the blue line (line 3) and go to two stops to the Elektrozavodskaya station. This station gets it’s name from a nearby electric light bulb factory and has a somewhat industrial but also futuristic style, with 6 rows of circular lamps (there are 318 lamps in total). I think this is one of the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro for how unique it is. The station was opened in 1944 after a delay because of the 2nd World War and features 12 marble bas-reliefs of the struggle on the home front during the war.

Ploschad Revolyutsii

Back on the metro line 3 (but in the other direction), getting off at the 3rd stop – Ploschad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square). This is located underneath the square in Moscow of the same name and is a short walk from Red Square in the city centre. It is the perfect place to end a visit around Moscow’s metro. The station features red and yellow marble arches with a total of 76 sculptures in between each arch. The sculptures are supposed to represent the people of the Soviet Union and include soldiers, farmers, industrial workers, children etc… I noticed a lot of people touching the golden chicken in the photo below as well as the show of the woman. I am assuming that this is for good luck.

Kievskaya definitely caught me off guard. Didn’t know Moscow metro stations were THIS extravagant! Mayakovskaya is gorgeous too with the marble walls and mosaics. I might just need to book a flight over to admire all of these!

van dutch yacht interior

Do it! Kievskaya was my first introduction to the Moscow metro as I got an overnight train from Kyiv.

' src=

You know, in the States, all we ever hear is bad stuff about Russia. It’s nice to see other (and lovely!) dimensions of such a controversial place.

It’s the same in the UK which is why I prefer going to see somewhere and making up my own mind. It’s all ‘politics and bullshit’ as I say

' src=

I went to Moscow about 13years for Christmas and went to train stations, so I can see these amazing mosaics and chandeliers. I agree with you that are beautiful Stations for sure and I could of wandered around for days. I think Kievskaya is definitely my favourite out of them all and I even have some similar pictures as you.

I imagine Moscow would have been a little different 13 years ago but these stations have probably always looked beautiful

' src=

Food and Footprints

You chose some great stations for this write up! Beautiful details in these stations and would love to visit them sometime. Particularly like the Komsomolskaya station with that yellow ceiling!

Thank you very much. Komsomolskaya seems to be a lot of peoples favourite stations too

' src=

Wow! Without the text I would have thought them to be some museum or gallery.

I know exactly what you mean!

' src=

Rosie Fluskey

Wow, it is just stunning! How does anyone get to work with so much to look at. I’m surprised at the very bourgeois-looking Komsomolskaya station. I would have thought it was all too Tzarist looking, but then I haven’t been to Russia yet lol. This has just made me want to go more!

' src=

Wow, that’s a lot of artwork. I wonder how old some of these pieces are?

Generally most of the stations are from 1940-1960 approximately. The later stations are more functional than style.

' src=

My mother-in-law was in Moscow fifty years ago and still raves about the metro stations. So far, I could not imagine much. But now! The pictures are great and I think it’s almost a pity that this splendor is underground. But for every user of the Metro can enjoy a free trip to the world of art. Susanne

True. It is like having a free trip to an art museum/gallery. I hope that you can one day visit Moscow and see for yourself.

' src=

Oh wow, I would never have known that these were metro stations. The ceilings remind me of how you need to look up sometimes, even in the commuter rush!

It is true about life in general, we just go from A to B looking directly in front of us instead of around us

' src=

Wow, I would have never guessed that these were stations. The decor is so pretty and not one I’m used to seeing at metro stations. Love the ceiling at The Komsomolskaya metro station.

They certainly don’t look like metro stations. The ceiling there is one of my favourites too!
