We had a chance to step aboard earlier this month as the Magellano flagship made its entrée into the North American market at the Miami International Boat Show.

As much as I loved the exterior, it was the interior that really got my attention. For that, Azimut brought in artist, architect, and now yacht designer Vincenzo de Cotiis. The Milan-based creative is best known for his terranean projects that mix modern design elements with a historical flair. On the 30M, he did not need to reach that far back into the past to find inspiration.

The interior has a 1980s vibe imbued by pastel colors throughout and irregular shaped, mirrored surfaces. But this bit of nostalgia is mixed with the inside-out aesthetic that is so prevalent in yachting right now, with near sole-to-ceiling windows in the salon and very low furniture that serves to amplify the open-concept layout. Glass defines the interior, with 750 square feet used across the vessel.

Another touch that I can’t remember seeing on a yacht before was the use of what de Cotiis and Azimut are calling “artistic fiberglass.” The aquamarine material can be seen throughout the interior, mostly on countertops and somehow makes strands of raw fiberglass look pretty. It’s a nod to the Brutalist aesthetic that has become so hot among a certain home buyer in recent years.

Some of the 30M’s best attributes are found below the waterline. The vessel has a Dual Mode hull, which makes it efficient both in displacement and semi-planing modes, delivering 15 to 20 percent reduced fuel consumption compared to traditional hard-chine planing hulls. The 100kWh lithium batteries also let the boat stay at anchor for four hours without running the engine and eight hours at night. The result is no noise and zero emissions.

Back outside, the 30M has a lovely bow-deck lounge with the expected lounge seating and carbon-fiber poles for the sunshade, as well as a roomy work area for the crew up front, with stainless-steel everything.

But the marquee outdoor deck is the flybridge. That space handles all dining duties with a table for 11—another nod to the outside-in concept and the new ways in which owners use their yachts. A bar for three to port exhibits high levels of fit and finish with its stainless inlays, though I would trade out the bare teak seats for something more comfortable and perhaps more stable.

A grill at the aft end of the deck also signals Azimut’s intent to make its new flagship popular in the U.S. market. With such delightful design bona fides, there’s no reason why it won’t thrive here.

The more traditional main deck offers a cockpit dedicated to lounging, just a few steps away from the water, ideal to gather a group for drinks while in a vibrant South of France port. The main salon is ideal to receive guests in a laid back atmosphere, with plenty of seating option in a refined environment, featuring a formal dining. The master suite is located all the way forward, with unparalleled views of the seas. 

The lower deck accommodates the remaining 8 guests, across 2 VIP Suites and 2 Guest suites. The tender garage is located all the way aft, storing a large tender and a jet ski.

Azimut Launches the Magellano 30 Metri

Azimut Yachts in Italy has launched the new flagship of its Magellano line: the Magellano 30 Metri, with a length overall of 97 feet, 6 inches.

Beam is 23 feet, and draft is 6 feet, 8 inches. Fuel capacity is more than 3,800 gallons for long-distance cruising—and Azimut says fuel consumption is about 15 percent lower than on traditional hard-chine planing hulls.

Also according to Azimut, the yacht has a top speed of 20 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots with twin 1,550-horsepower MAN engines.

The design team behind the Magellano 30 Metri includes people who also collaborated on the Magellano 25 Metri : Ken Freivokh, who handled exterior styling, and Vincenzo De Cotiis, who designed the interiors. PLANA collaborated with Azimut on naval architecture for the Dual Mode hull.

Notable design features include more than 750 feet of glazed surfaces, for wide-angle views and a great deal of natural light on board.

A hotel mode package is available: Azimut says the Magellano 30 Metri can be fitted with this package, which has 100 kWh lithium batteries that let the yacht anchor silently, with zero emissions, for as long as four hours during the day and eight hours at night.

The Flybridge aboard this Navetta-style yacht is so large that one could easily mistake it for the main deck. Al fresco living spaces on this upper level include a forward sun terrace with a geometric sunpad that adjoins a curved, L-shaped sofa and a set of plush ottomans for an open-air, casbah-style lounge. This sun terrace also comes with a circular jacuzzi spa-pool where you can relax for hours on end in the warm, bubbling waters. To the rear of the flybridge is another open-air terrace which boasts bespoke sun-loungers, a trapezoidal dining table, an angled sofa and unobstructed views out to sea. This distinctive flybridge also happens to include an internal cockpit salon with cabinet space, a wet bar, an L-shaped sofa and a large pilothouse with superb visibility from this elevated position. The Magellano series from Azimut Yachts is truly a unique design in its class of luxury boats over 90-feet.

Should you wish to retreat from the sun then the spacious, teak-lined, sheltered aft deck is the place to be. Here you will find an R-shaped sofa, a transom sofa and a chaise-longue as well as side steps down to an extending swimming platform. Structural supports in lightweight carbon fiber are minimalist to the extreme, and when paired with the glass transom wall, give the aft-deck an infinity terrace feel. Access to the transom garage is positioned on the swimming platform and is large enough to host a pair of modern water toys.

The main deck internal living space is unashamedly contemporary, featuring a curated set of bespoke, geometric furnishings from De Cotiis Architects, double-height cinema-screen windows and cleverly positioned mirrored partitions to break up the space. You can expect to find only the finest materials used here, including stainless steel joinery, timber sun-louvres, hand-stitched turquoise upholstery, pale marble surfaces, lacquered carbon-fiber and satin-finished dark oak. At the rear of the salon, close to sliding glass doors, are a set of side sofas that snake along the port and starboard walls, as well as custom-made coffee tables, armchairs and light fixtures. Advancing forward there is a trapezoidal dining table large enough for ten guests to enjoy gourmet meals and an American-style bar inspired by the cocktail lounges of old, before you come to an enclosed, amidship kitchen galley stocked with the latest Miele appliances. The sheer size of this sublime yacht means there is also room on the main deck for a forward owner’s stateroom with floor-to-ceiling windows, a king-sized island bed, armchairs and an en suite bathroom lined in Verde marble.

Lower deck arrangements are subject to customisation, but typically include four double staterooms with en suite facilities as well as a separately accessed below-deck lounge and three en suite bunk cabins towards the bow that can be used by the crew. All interior spaces on the Magellano 30 Metri benefit from an advanced BCOOL air conditioning system, made using technology first pioneered by NASA, that constantly recirculates fresh air, controls the temperature and removes harmful micro-particles from the atmosphere.

The Azimut Magellano 30 Metri is fitted with two 1550 MHP MAN engines for top speeds of up to 20 knots, and benefits from a fuel tank holding up to 14,500 litres of diesel, making it a true long-range cruiser. A Pierluigi Ausonio designed Dual-Mode semi-displacement planing hull is one of the most robust ever put to water, and includes a double-height bow that cuts through even the most challenging waves as if they were not there. With performance like that, the yacht’s namesake Ferdinand Magellan himself would certainly approve.

Sustainability The innovative thrust of the Magellano 30 Metri is also expressed in the choices made to reduce environmental impact. The second-generation Dual Mode hull, designed by naval architecture firm P.L.A.N.A. on a joint basis with the Azimut Yachts R&D centre, ensures an excellent level of stability, keeping fuel consumption down both at midrange speeds – even in rough seas, delivering on the promise of cruising in freedom in any conditions – as well as at higher speeds, reducing consumption in this case by about 15% compared with traditional hard chine planing hulls.  The new Magellano line flagship establishes a truly harmonious human relationship with the water, even and especially during periods spent at anchor: the Magellano 30 Metri is designed to be fitted with the Hotel Mode package, which includes 100kWh lithium batteries so that she can stay at anchor with zero emissions for up to 4 hours during the day and 8 hours at night. The result is total silence broken only by the sound of the sea.

Azimut Grande 30 METRI

Description

The 30-meter Azimut Grande 30 METRI debuted at the Boat Show in Fort Lauderdale in 2017. The design of the ship, traditionally for this shipyard, was done by famous designers Stefano Rigini and Achille Salvani. The yacht received large portholes in the cabins, the signature glazing of the cabin in the form of “shark fins” and enlarged guest cabins, which are decorated in the Italian style. The customer can create their own layout of the cabin or cabins and choose any color trim from the available options.

For outdoor recreation, there is a spacious flybridge, deck chairs in the bow and a shaded terrace with sun loungers. On the flybridge there is a dining area with a corner sofa, a control post, a bar counter, sun loungers and a jacuzzi. On the main deck there is a spacious seating area with six sofas, a galley, a dining area, a bathroom and an owner’s cabin with a separate shower and wardrobe. To get to the lower deck there are two entrances - one located in the aft of the vessel and leads to the crew cabin, and the second, which leads to the guest cabins and located in the bow of the vessel. There are 8 cabins for guests, which can accommodate up to 14 people. On the Azimut Grande 30 METRI, a tender garage is standard.

MTU diesel engines with a total capacity of 4800 hp are responsible for the ship's driving performance, and the fuel tank is designed for 12,000 liters of fuel. Despite the size and dry weight of 105 tons, the yacht can accelerate to 30 knots, and cruising speed is 22 knots.

Azimut Grande 30 METRI has been classified by A.Sea Craft and can be used for sea voyages.

Filippetti Navetta 30: sailing in total harmony with sea

Filippetti Navetta 30 is designed to enjoy a responsible sailing experience in harmony with the sea.

Built with eco-sustainable materials, this 30-meter yacht is a perfect long-range cruiser with very low environmental impact, displacing hull, low emissions and exceptional water and fuel capacity.

THE OWNER FIRST

The main focus of the Filippetti Navetta 30 project is on the owner. Spaces are arranged and customised around the owner’s needs for a totally relaxing sailing experience. However, this long-range cruiser is not only designed for comfort: aesthetics is important, too. Two different layouts and a custom interior configuration make this yacht unique and inimitable. The owner can choose between two versions, with 5 or 6 cabins. The latter even includes an upper deck that is exclusively reserved for the owner. In both versions, the master cabin enjoys a breath-breaking panoramic view.

A VERY BRIGHT LONG-RANGE CRUISER

Light is one among the main features of the Filippetti Navetta 30 . In the bow, where the large owner area is accommodated, the enveloping windows flood the interiors with an incredible amount of natural light, offering an ample panoramic view.

A WELLNESS OASIS ON BOARD

Travelling on board the Filippetti Navetta 30 is synonymous with relax and quiet. The Owner Suite can house a SPA area with jacuzzi, steam bath and an extraordinarily large shower or  a private Gym. The bathroom is decorated with fine marble details and customizable according to the owner’s needs. Guests can relax on the large terrace on the upper deck: the ideal place to enjoy the sun and the distant view between sea and sky.

Azimut Unveils the Grande 30M

The Azimut Grande 30M, which will be presented to the public in 2025, represents the culmination of stylistic innovations to break down the barriers that limit contact with sea and sky.

The interiors are designed by m2atelier, for their first collaboration with Azimut, while the exteriors by Alberto Mancini take the two elements that established the success of Grande 26M and Grande 36M to their fullest expression by integrating them: the Deck2Deck Terrace and the Infinity Skydeck.

The Grande 30M’s Infinity Skydeck is the natural evolution of the one the Shipyard made for the Grande 36M and for the first time goes from ‘semi’ to fully walkaround. The Upper Deck of the yacht runs flush from the stern to the extreme bow, allowing guests to experience this space like never before and pushing the concept of fluidity between exteriors and interiors to the extreme.

The Glass House of the Upper Deck is transformed – thanks to the fully disappearing full-height windows – into a veranda open on three sides, establishing a union between the large aft lounge and the Infinity Pool which overlooks the sea off the bow.

The feature that best embodies the desire to expand the spaces on board and look to the horizon as a profound vocation of cruising is the Deck2Deck Terrace, an extension of the transom obtained by raising the teak hatch of the garage to become a continuation of the cockpit and a real terrace over the sea.

The signature of m2atelier, an international architecture and design studio founded in Milan by Marco Bonelli and Marijana Radovic, is evident in the architectural language that draws from different fields, from residential to contemporary art, to create fluid and informal spaces, to be lived and used in great relaxation and freedom, where time passes slowly and where the perception of light is the heart of the experience.

Light is the protagonist throughout the spaces on board the Azimut Grande 30M: from the large, floor-to-ceiling windows to the internal staircase, made ethereally light to give this structural element an artistic interpretation and create a cascade of light that descends from the Upper Deck to the Main Deck.

This architectural concept embraces attention to detail and the ability to combine different materials in a relentless pursuit of a sustainable minimalism that is attentive to people’s wellbeing and respect for the environment.

Grande 30M is one of Azimut’s Low Emission Yachts, which include more than half of the brand’s models. Low Emission Yachts guarantee a reduction in consumption – and therefore in CO2 emissions – of 20 to 30% compared to models of similar size with hard-chine hulls and traditional shaft line.

These results are possible through the combination of three key factors: weight reduction through the extensive use of carbon fiber; the development of increasingly efficient hulls, designed ad hoc to suit the mission of each Series; the use of innovative propulsion, such as the POD system installed on board the Grande 30M.

Baglietto alla sfida dell’idrogeno, Deprati: a luglio il nostro prototipo

Il Ceo del gruppo sarà ospite mercoledì 19 giugno a Genova de L’Alfabeto del futuro di Gedi. “Oggi non esiste una tecnologia ideale produrre energia pulita, ma un insieme di soluzioni. Ma mi aspetto ci si arrivi in breve tempo”. Le novità: il T52 allungato a 54 metri, un nuovo 48 metri dislocante su tre ponti e un Dom 140 in acciaio

L’amministratore delegato del gruppo Baglietto, Diego Michele Deprati, è un savonese che sul mare c’è andato come ufficiale di Marina, prendendo parte a missioni di pace. Poi, dopo il congedo, ha cominciato a parlare di barche con i fratelli Stroppiana, Edo e Ferruccio, fondatori della Mondo, la multinazionale delle pavimentazioni sportive e del cantiere Mondomarine, che Deprati ha guidato finché la proprietà non ha deciso di vendere. Da qui, il passaggio in Cerri, il marchio che ha visto il debutto nella nautica di Beniamino Gavio, e poi in Baglietto, acquisito sempre dal “re delle autostrade”. Il manager sarà ospite domani – mercoledì 19 giugno – a Genova de L’Alfabeto del futuro organizzato dal gruppo Gedi.

Deprati, Baglietto sta attraversando i secoli: 170 anni. Da sempre all’avanguardia, lo è anche nella transizione energetica. Quando inaugurerete il prototipo Bzero, l’impianto che a partire da acqua di mare filtrata e deionizzata produce idrogeno?

«L’impianto è sostanzialmente ultimato e sono già in corso i primi pre-test di funzionamento e di collaudo. Credo entro fine mese, primi di luglio il sistema entrerà pienamente in funzione».

Bzero è stato ideato e realizzato in scala a terra, nei vostri stabilimenti di La Spezia. A quando su uno yacht?

«La prima valenza del prototipo è quella di simulare l’impianto che andremo ad installare sulle nostre imbarcazioni over 50 metri, con un kit che prevede una fuel cell da 200 kilowatt e che sarà titolato a produrre energia a bordo in un insieme ibrido. Per essere chiari, non pensiamo che l’idrogeno sarà a breve l’unica fonte possibile, ma crediamo possa essere inserito nel novero di altre fonti disponibili, che vanno dalla batteria al fotovoltaico al gruppo elettrogeno con tecnologia SCR (catalizzatore) e così via. Sotto questo profilo, il nostro focus in questo momento è capire come stoccare l’idrogeno a bordo in sicurezza: l’idea è quella di installare inizialmente una quantità di circa 100 kg. Quando poi alla prima imbarcazione predisposta per installare questo sistema, sarà un 60 metri ibrido che sta entrando in costruzione in questi giorni e che sarà pronta nel primo semestre del 2028».

L’impianto avrà altre valenze?

«Lo stesso sistema fungerà anche come dispositivo di produzione di energia per il fabbisogno del cantiere. Parlo dell’energia in eccesso prodotta dai pannelli fotovoltaici presenti su tutte le coperture dei capannoni, che sarà stoccata e utilizzata. Giusto per informazione: la costruzione di una barca di 52 metri richiede due anni e mezzo di tempo e un impiego di energia di circa un gigawatt. Se traduciamo tutto ciò in CO2 emessa nell’ambiente parliamo di quasi 400 tonnellate si capisce il valore di questa opportunità ..».

C’è altro ancora?

«Terza valenza dell’impianto, sarà quella di fungere anche da stazione di rifornimento, con l’idrogeno stoccato a una pressione di 30 atmosfere, dunque in sicurezza, e che potrà attendere anche magari una rete di distribuzione sul territorio».

L’idrogeno è la soluzione ideale per l’energia pulita?

«Oggi non esiste una tecnologia ideale, ma un insieme di soluzioni. In una prima fase i motori sugli yacht resteranno a combustione interna, ma funzionanti con carburanti verdi, ad esempio il biodiesel. Una seconda fonte di energia possibile sarà la batteria, al litio o di nuove generazioni, e una terza sarà legata al fotovoltaico, ma annesso e connesso all’idrogeno. E ci saranno poi generatori classici, con sistemi che però abbatteranno le emissioni come le SCR».

Queste nuove soluzioni, pensiamo ai motori, sono convenienti per il mercato?

«Per ora no. Ma vale la pena ricercare, provare. È un po’ come l’avvento del motore a scoppio, con a differenza che oggi la tecnologia si evolve con una velocità supersonica rispetto al passato. Mi aspetto che in poco tempo si arrivi ad avere dispositivi per produrre energia che siano davvero alternativi, green e possano essere anche convenienti.

Gli altri piani Baglietto?

«Parlando di barche è in fase di realizzazione il primo 50 metri fast, già commissionato, e stiamo costruendo il primo explorer, l’XO sempre di 50 metri. Poi, abbiamo in serbo una novazione del 52T, che allungheremo a 54 metri e stiamo progettando un nuovo 48 metri semidislocante in alluminio, con tre ponti. Quanto alle barche di dimensioni inferiori, proseguiamo la corsa con il Dom 133 e con il Dom 115, quest’ultimo già in consegna il prossimo anno. E stiamo pensando anche a un Dom 140, in acciaio per il 2026».

E poi c’è il settore difesa.

«In cui crediamo molto. Buona parte delle risorse le stiamo impiegando proprio in questo settore, in cui siamo rientrati 7 anni fa col nostro prototipo di unità multiruolo di 15 metri e dove ora stiamo collaborando con la Marina in progetti di nuovi modelli da sbarco».

Nuove da Bertram, l’altro vostro marchio?

«Stiamo ultimando il progetto di un 55 piedi che verrà realizzato in Italia: sarà pronto a inizio 2026 e avrà motori fuoribordo».

Che carico di lavoro avete in questo momento?

«Abbiamo 22 yacht in costruzione. Il nostro target è di 10 barche l’anno , 6-7 Baglietto e 2-3 Bertram».

Portafogli ordini?

«Assestato sui 500 milioni di euro, con tempi di consegna che arrivano al 2027 e nessuna flessione».

La Borsa all’orizzonte?

«No. Né quotazione né ingresso di fondi».

MAGELLANO 30M is a 29.6 m Motor Yacht, built in Italy by Azimut and delivered in 2024. She is one of 15 Magellano 30M models.
