A DAY ON THE YACHT

The surprisingly calm sound of the sea or birds chirping might wake you up just on time to start a new day aboard your yacht charter. After your morning ritual, you can walk through the pine forest of a completely private and uninhabited island. Sunshades are down and breakfast is being served on the main deck aft of your amazing MISS KATARIINA yacht charter. Enjoy your favourite coffee or squeezed orange juice paired with homemade pancakes and local jam or melted dark chocolate. Being just a few stairs from the turquoise sea, you might even wish to sit down on the swimming platform and have a croissant with your legs in the water…

After breakfast, you might want to take a swim in the clear turquoise sea or start exploring your mystery island. The knowledgeable crew members can tell you everything about local Croatian myths and legends or teach you how to find endemic species all by yourself. There are many different animal and plant species that you can only find in Croatia. If you opt for swimming, you can take out your snorkeling equipment and start looking for sea urchins or starfish. You will be amazed by the biodiversity of the Croatian seabed.

When you are done with swimming, snorkeling or exploring, it might be time for a delicious lunch. You can enjoy it in an air-conditioned indoor dining area or on the upper deck. Try special local food or opt for the meals characteristic of your hometown. Your private chef will prepare anything you want. It can be an amazing shrimp risotto with Croatian white wine, carrot salad with marinated anchovies or beefsteak with mushroom sauce.

After lunch, you might decide to take a nap in your lovely master suite or watch your favourite movie in the magical indoor salon. When you have recharged your batteries, it could be the time for relaxing in the jacuzzi or trying the rest of your water toys. Sit on the amazing Yamaha jet-ski and show off your fantastic skills. YACHT CHARTER DINING

The galley aboard MISS KATARIINA yacht charter is compact but able to provide all the luxury dining elements a charter guest would expect. A stove with five rings and plenty of fridge space enables the preparation of exquisite and personalized dishes. Enjoy every meal during your vacation, thanks to an awarded and experienced private chef.

For your first meal, you can choose whether to eat cinnamon mascarpone pancakes or baked banana and blueberry toast with freshly squeezed local orange or lemon. All your guests will be delighted daily with the choice and quality of food.

Furthermore, get excited for lunch with fusion lobster or shrimp roll or grilled meat from the region of Istria. Your private chef is always there for you at any time of day or night. For dinner, you can always opt for one of the Croatian Michelin-starred restaurants, like 360 in the city of Dubrovnik or Pelegrini in the city of Šibenik . You could also let your crew organise a themed dinner party on your aft deck or upper deck. YACHT MAIN DECK

For that perfect first impression, sweet light piano music creates a harmonious atmosphere on MISS KATARIINA`s main deck aft. As guests step onto her stern, the crew welcomes them with a glass of chilled champagne and cold towels. The main deck aft has a circular dining table with double stern benches, divided by a cooler feature. The surface of the main deck aft is streamlined and smooth, thanks to ropes and cables being tucked under the hull. This way, they are barely visible, but still right at hand, creating a neat and tidy deck impression.

The dining table will be decorated daily with fresh lily arrangements and other aesthetic elements that will make sitting at the table enjoyable. Also, there are plenty of integrated LED lights, moulded into the fibreglass hardtop.

There are two cameras covering the main deck aft, which will make guests feel safe and secure when berthed with MISS KATARIINA yacht charter. On the frame of the fibreglass hardtop are removable sunshades, which can extend all the way down to the stainless polished handrails, which will create a much more shielded atmosphere for the main deck aft.

The stairway to the upper deck is located on the starboard side, but not before guests walk around the side decks, to get a better impression of MISS KATARIINA yacht charter. The teak is in a wonderful condition; you can see that the crew works daily to upkeep and preserve and maintain this vessel in a pristine condition.

Stainless steel handrails go all the way to the bow, which is excellently designed. In front of the interior helm station windshield, there are six fantastic sun pads, moulded into the superstructure. This sun lover’s heaven will attract guests to enjoy cocktails and canapes while marvelling at the fantastic view of untouched Croatian islands. They can follow MISS KATARIINA`s cruising course and observe the wonderful Croatian Adriatic sea panorama – the coastline, the islands, the sea, the sun, the clouds, the blue sky and the mighty mountains in the background.

Yacht charter accommodation: main salon & dining area

The main deck salon is accessed via a very huge glass sliding door which leads into the interior lounge area. The main salon has a generous amount of headspace. On the port side, there is a shelving arrangement with art pieces; something to tie the atmosphere of the space together into a glamourous first impression.

There are hip-high cabinets with polished frames, providing enough storage for an extended charter vacation and extending throughout the length of the main salon. The lounge area is divided from the dining area using one of the sofas as a makeshift divider.

When it comes to the design of the salon, it is wonderfully tied together, with white fabric surfaces that only serve to accentuate the handcrafted wood. The salon`s floor solution is a welcomed change from the majority of yachts that feature a carpet in the main salon.

The bare dark wood floor on MISS KATARIINA yacht charter feels more natural and more grounding, creating an inviting atmosphere. This means that guests will feel at home, especially because of a hardworking and expert crew, which will give their all to provide guests with a sense of joy, adventure and excitement on their Croatian yacht charter holiday.

YACHT FLYBRIDGE

Reaching the flybridge is possible via the staircase on the starboard side of the main deck aft. Fantastically moulded lights keep the staircase lit in the evening, so guests will not have any problems commuting between decks. The flybridge has a stern storage surface, which can house two jet skis, which are launched by a nearby crane. When the jet skis are launched, this area can be used for a number of purposes, from massage therapies, exercises, meditation or playing golf.

The main feature of the flybridge is the fantastic, centrally-placed jacuzzi, with two sunbeds located portside of the jacuzzi, so guests can sunbathe one minute and flip over into the jacuzzi in the next. You could also chit-chat with the people in the jacuzzi while laying down.

There are practical steps moulded into the structure of the jacuzzi, with a C-shaped sofa arrangement on the port side, which is the second alfresco dining option area on MISS KATARIINA yacht charter. The alfresco flybridge table is compatible, created from two smaller coffee tables that can merge and create a big dining table. This would be a nice environment to enjoy meals surrounded by fresh sea air and soft summer breezes.

The starboard side has a wet bar with polished stainless steel handrails, a fridge, a wine cooler and a grill station. On the starboard side, placed against one of the sides of the wet bar, is an exterior lounge area which is actually an L-shaped sofa combined with a sun pad.

A bimini top spans the majority of the flybridge, enabling guests to enjoy the view without being exposed to the sun for too long. A practical feature present on the flybridge is friction stripes, which prevent guests from falling or slipping.

YACHT LOWER DECK

This magnificent superyacht can host up to ten guests in four excellently cabins, including a spacious master stateroom, a great VIP cabin and two twin cabins.

Yacht Charter Accommodation: The Master stateroom

When you enter the master suite you will be amazed by spectacular tones of silver, white and brown. The master stateroom follows the same pattern as the VIP, but it is more spacious and more elegantly appointed, with elaborate ornaments, smart details and hand-crafted accessories.

The king-size berth is centrally-placed, with plenty of walk-around room. A wonderful mirror wall behind the berth transforms the whole space into a crystal palace – this mirror wall actually doubles as storage space; very practical and extremely beautiful.

An adornment behind the berth follows the same pattern present on the sheets, so it combines seamlessly with the berth, presenting intricate hexagonal mosaic patterns coloured with silver, gold and bronze. Add to that the twin nightstands and an impression of a stylish faux bench behind the berth is created, adding to the intricacy of the whole cabin. To port, two cabinets are on each side of a compact sofa, practically placed near a wide window.

Here, guests can take a quick nap, relax between meals, watch a movie or just read their favourite magazine. There is another walk-in closet to port, which features safe and hidden storage compartments, enabling versatility when storing your vacation baggage. Each cabin also comes equipped with a fire extinguisher, adding to the safety of the charter guests.

The ceiling is multi-levelled, inlaid with leather-like fabric that adds to the overall luxury atmosphere. A massive flat-screen TV is located on the wall across the berth, offering the best possible viewing angles from all sides of the cabin. A Bose sound system is integrated straight into the ceiling, so guests could feel completely immersed in their favourite blockbuster or show.

On the starboard side is a great vanity table with a chair from where you can reply to your emails, read a book or just enjoy delicious snacks before going to bed. Both port and starboard sides of the master cabin have their own ensuite entrances. The starboard side ensuite has a sink, a head and a shower and a tub combo, decorated with light brown plywood wood panels.

The other ensuite has a green marble finish on the countertops, as well as a shower cabin and a head. The ensuites also retain some of the general decor present on the yacht, like wood details, white coarse surfaces and glossy ornaments.

Yacht Charter Accommodation: The VIP cabin

This cabin features a centrally placed queen size berth, featuring an ornamental hexagonal pattern, coloured in a silver and black combo. There are portholes on both sides of the hull, which offer an ideal amount of daylight.

One port side sofa bench and one sofa bench on the starboard side enable guests to kick back, put their feet in the air and just chill. The sofas are also great for watching TV or chit-chatting with your charter party. Also, there is a very generously spaced walk-in closet to the starboard side. A flat-screen TV in front of the berth will entertain guests for many hours in an air-conditioned environment. There are also shelves with rails, where you can store your stuff without them slipping when cruising.

The port side ensuite features the same marble and wood arrangement as in the twin cabin ensuite, with an exception of the colour of the marble sink surface being pink, and not green. The wall and ceiling in the ensuite are done in white, with brown wood framing. The shower cabin is pretty much the same as in the twin – generous, compact and with a wooden floor.

Yacht Charter Accommodation: Two Twin Cabins

Located between the master stateroom and the VIP cabin are two twin cabins, brilliantly furnished with soft bed linens, adequate storage space and a bright, airy vibe. Each twin cabin has one pullman berth for one or two extra guests aboard the amazing MISS KATARIINA yacht charter. The ensuites feature a marble floor panel framed with the same wood used in the salon. There is plenty of toilet cabinetry, combined with a sink, a shower cabin and a head. The shower cabin has a wood floor, for a comfortable feeling when taking a warm shower before dinner on MISS KATARIINA yacht charter. The twin cabins are mirror images of one another with their entrances parallel to one another.

The twins are subtly decorated with the same hexagonal ornaments present in the other cabins. The twin berths are comfortable and enjoyable, providing guests countless hours of rest and recuperation before they return to enjoy their charter holiday in Croatia. White leather panels cover the cabinetry, which is located above the headspace of the berths… A singular nightstand divides the twin berths, with a mirror in the middle.

When it comes to sunlight, there are wide twin portholes that provide a decent amount of natural light throughout the day. There is an added bonus to it also; the light coming in the cabins shimmers and reflects from the water’s surface outside, creating an interesting pattern of liquid and light, a mini-natural light show.

All cabins are spacious, fully equipped as well as luxuriously designed.  Moreover, Miss Katariina features a multi-room audio system controllable with cell phones. Certainly, all the cabins portray much more than just sleeping spots. Finally, the 4-member crew is experienced, professional and fluent in English. Hi Amanda, The boat was great. The staff were too. Marin in particular. He was super knowledgeable and we felt in good hands. I'd say that maybe a very slight comment is that a Croatian crew and cooking etc is always going to be a little more "Eastern European" than, say an Italian crew. This is not to say it was lacking, just a little different and perhaps requires a little more communication. Thanks for everything. Was really a wonderful holiday I'd love to do a boat trip again. A.P.A is paid by the Client in addition to the charter fee for all relevant costs for the vessel that are not included in the charter fee.

If A.P.A does not cover complete costs, the Client will pay exceeding the amount on board in cash.

If costs made on charter are less than the amount is given as A.P.A, the amount that was not spent will be returned to the Client at the end of the voyage.

A.P.A does not include a tip for the crew.

• Tips are not included in the price of the charter and are a voluntary way of showing appreciation for a good service. Usually, it is 7% to 15% of the charter price, according to your satisfaction, paid to the captain at the end of the charter and distributed equally by the captain to the rest of the crew.

How does the charter agreement work?

Once your chosen yacht has been confirmed, we will send you a standard MYBA or Goolets charter agreement that needs to be signed. If your chosen cruise route requires a different embarking or disembarking place other than the yacht's central harbor, delivery/redelivery fees may apply.

What are the payment terms?

After signing the MYBA or Goolets charter agreement, a deposit of 50% of the total charter cost is required. You can pay the fee via bank transfer or credit card (only Visa or MasterCard). The other 50%, an Advance Provisioning Allowance (if applicable), taxes, positioning fees, and any previously agreed charges are payable via bank transfer eight weeks before departure.

What are the actual operating expenses?

Once you made the final payment of the charter, you pay the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA). Under MYBA terms, this fee is usually between 30% - 40% of the total charter cost.

This covers the operating expenses of a charter (explained under Charter Terms), such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees, and ad hoc incidentals. The APA is given to the captain before the start of your charter. Some yachts and gulets also offer food/drinks packages which are normally paid in cash during embarkation, while the port taxes are paid during embarkation according to the costs presented by the captain. The Captain ensures that the yacht is fully fuelled and stocked when you step on board. 

While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise. 

In case of surpassing the amount of money already paid during your yacht charter (with the APA), additional funds (in cash) will be required at once. If there is an outstanding balance from the yacht charter, it should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before you disembark. In case of a remaining credit at the end of your charter, you will be fully reimbursed. 

If a transfer by car to and from the yacht is required, it can be arranged either by the charter company or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

How can we make your yacht charter personalized?

To ensure a unique and tailor-made charter experience, we will send you a detailed questionnaire eight weeks before you embark on your yacht. You can tell us your group's preferences and special requirements, such as dietary or medical needs, any particular wishes regarding exercise, entertainment, or if you are celebrating a special occasion. 

Are internet and satellite TV connections available onboard?

In case you really need to get some work done during your vacation, no worries. On most yachts, there is mobile broadband internet and satellite TV, so you will stay connected to the rest of the world. Just keep in mind that the service can be limited in some areas (you are in the middle of the sea after all). If you anticipate regular usage of the internet, let us know prior to embarking, as upgrades might be subject to availability and additional fees may apply.

Is smoking allowed onboard?

Smoking is permitted only on the outside decks, and on some yachts, only in dedicated outdoor areas. Please consult our charter brokers for more information. For safety reasons, smoking indoors is strictly prohibited on all yachts.

Are tips for the crew mandatory?

Even though tips are not mandatory, the guests normally extend a gratuity to the devoted crew. The amount depends on the guest's satisfaction, but it is approximately 10% of the charter fee. The tips are equally distributed among all crew members by the captain.

Should I get any insurance?

In case of unforeseen circumstances that might prevent the charter, we highly recommend taking out the Cancellation and Curtailment Insurance to protect the investment. Besides that, the guests should be covered by Personal Accident and Medical Insurance, and their belongings are insured against theft, loss, or damage. Charterers’ Liability insurance is also highly recommended. Contact your broker for further assistance and additional advice regarding the insurance.

How are the charter rates calculated?

Charter rates are estimated weekly. If a charter exceeds seven days, they are calculated pro-rata against the weekly rate divided by seven and multiplied by the number of charter days. Keep in mind that some yachts are only chartered on a weekly (Saturday-Saturday or Sunday-Sunday) basis, especially during the high season.

High and low season rates vary depending on charter locations and types of yachts. The high rates apply to the most popular charter periods (July/August and Christmas/New Year), and to all major events. Low season rates apply to all other periods.

The charter rates on our website are up to date but may be subject to change. 

What are the charter terms?

Most charter rates are based on MYBA Terms, which entail that the yacht is in full commission, with all necessary equipment, properly insured for marine risks, and managed by a crew, whose wages, food, and clothing are the owner’s expense.

All other operating expenses are charged to the charterer and include (but are not limited to): fuel and lubricating oils for the yacht and her tenders; local taxes; pilotage; port, harbor, and marina dues; customs clearance; water and power; personal laundry; all provisions, wines, beers, spirits, soft drinks and consumables for the charterer’s group; shoreside excursions, telecommunication, and internet costs.

Please note that, occasionally, a yacht may offer an alteration on the terms described above. For further information about specific yachts, consult your broker.

Do any other taxes apply?

For charters in European waters, Value Added Tax and delivery costs may be charged on the gross Charter Fee, due to the European Union tax legislation. In other countries, local taxes may also apply. Depending on your chosen charter destination, our brokers will provide any prevalent rates.

Miss Moscow Shatters Stereotypes During Visit

It was not her breathtaking smile, as wide and sparkling as sunshine in Siberia. Nor was it her statuesque, leonine presence. Rather Mariya (Masha) Kalinina, 19, believes it was her intelligence and personality that two years ago earned her the title of Miss Moscow--the first official beauty queen in the history of the Soviet state.

It probably didn’t hurt that she also sewed a dress for the judges in 20 minutes. And showed them a serious aerobics workout.

In Orange County for an unofficial visit to tour college campuses and promote her career, Kalinina drew slack-jawed stares Wednesday at the Sports Club Irvine, where she is keeping in shape.

“Who is she?” said Steve Holmes, 31 of Laguna Hills from an exercise bike. “Is she free for dinner?”

“How about breakfast?” piped Scott Kersh, 32.

Kalinina is the guest of Paul Tatum, president of Irvine-based Americom International Corp., who met her on a Soviet talk show, “Moscow Review,” last month as he was promoting the American Trade Center. When it opens next year, the project, a joint venture with Intourist and Radisson hotels, will be the first American-managed hotel and business center in the Soviet Union.

Tatum insists they are just friends, saying even his girlfriend hasn’t complained.

Under his sponsorship, she arrived last week in Washington, where she met President Bush and Rep. Christopher Cox (R-Newport Beach) at a private meeting of Republicans. Cox was quoted as saying: “She’s certainly not the old stereotype of Moscow women.”

In fact there are many beautiful women in the Soviet Union, Kalinina said, walking up to the club. She waits while others go through the door first.

Until she became famous, she said, people on the street were always mistaking her for someone else.

Ignoring the stares of passersby, she explained she feels better without makeup, but uses it to change her image. “It’s interesting,” she said.

A descendant of Prince Fiodor A. Kurakin, a hero of the war of 1812 and a character in “War and Peace,” Kalinina is the only child of a doctor and a hotel administrator. As a child she said she always wanted an unusual life and yearned to be a contestant on “Hey You Girl,” a Soviet game show pitting beautiful women in athletic competition.

She was 15 when glasnost arrived, and with it, the first beauty pageant in Soviet socialist history. Most contestants did not know what to do, and received private coaching from the state in makeup and how to walk. They stood in lines in swimsuits and evening gowns, sang Russian songs and danced. They answered such questions as, “What are you going to do if you win?”

Kalinina said she would write a book about being in a beauty contest.

When she won, she was pelted with roses that fell so hard from the ceiling that they knocked off her crown. But in the manner of American pros, she kept on smiling.

She is still the reigning Miss Moscow, but the contests have proliferated and have produced a Miss USSR and local titles such as Miss Leningrad and Miss Kiev. While judges do not check for silicone implants or extra padding, she said the contests are not so important as to tempt women to cheat.

Her life has changed drastically as a result of winning, she said.

She has traveled extensively in Europe, modeling and appearing in one Italian film, “Pay Attention to Perestroika. “ She has cut a record, “Love Me,” in French, in France. And she has written a book, “Me, Miss Moscow: The Diary of a Beauty Queen.”

She said she was shocked to read in some Western newspapers that she had agreed to pose for Penthouse and Playboy. She said she refused because it is contrary to her image. (However, her English is not yet fluent and in explaining her refusal, she confused the words, accept and reject.)

The beauty contest has cost her some friends, who are jealous of her success, and the anger of some older people who don’t understand, she said. “They say, ‘What for? What for a beauty contest?’ ”

And a Soviet feminist movement opposes the contests on the standard American grounds that they exploit women.

“What can I say?” she said, shrugging and smiling. “I am here because of Miss Moscow. I like challenges and new situations.”

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
