Sunborn London is right by the ExCel London exhibition centre and a short walk from Custom House DLR; it certainly adds a touch of originality to the revitalised Royal Victoria Dock – once the largest of the three royal docks. It also sits next to the high-level footbridge (accessed by lift) to Silvertown. You can see the O2 Arena (now planned to be a designer shopping village), and the eye-catching Emirates Air Line cable car is nearby too.

Along the dock, The Crystal has an exhibition about sustainability and a good café, the attractions of Greenwich are a couple of stops away, and in the summer, the popular Royal Victoria Beach opens again with a sandy beach, deckchairs and bouncy castle. City Airport isn’t far away either – the planes can be noisy and distracting early in the morning. 

Style and Character

The Finnish-built yacht may have never graced the ocean waves – it has no engine and was pulled by tug down to its current berth four years ago – but it looks the part. The gleaming white 420ft design with its distinctive prow is set over five decks and is awash with shiny brass fittings and mirrors, cream panelling and Finnish oak stained with a distinctive orangey hue. The curved double staircase in the centre is complimented by a grand chandelier and the overall feel is of a ship keen to make an impression. Sunborn has another yacht hotel in Gibraltar and two spa hotels in Finland.

Service and Facilities

Service is bright and efficient, beginning with the warm welcome at the reception desk. The small Decleor & Carita Symphony Spa has two therapy rooms with a variety of massages and treatments. There are useful in-room tablets that offer everything from hotel details to news updates and what to do in the area and even a potted history of the capital. The Sunday Movie Club is a regular package including a film in the auditorium, afternoon tea, glass of prosecco, and popcorn during the film.

The 136 rooms and four suites are the chief attraction because of their size – they are much bigger than most in the capital (even the Classic rooms are 23 square metres). All have solid doors and are spacious and very comfortable, if a little underwhelming on the design front. Pictures range from London scenes to ships, and windows are porthole-style. There’s also an in-room tablet and a Lavazza coffee machine. Bathrooms are of a decent size with showers and White Company products. The Executive suites are great fun, with whirlpool baths, showers, a sauna and a huge balcony. A wrench to leave. 

Food and Drink

The bright Sundown Bar – again all wood and gold fittings – offers views across the dock towards the O2 Arena; you can sit outside too – great for sunsets. Cocktails start from £11.50. The Lands End restaurant is another bold room offering Docklands views and a varied Mediterranean menu with Asian influences; the seared tuna loin with cracked pepper (£14) and braised pork belly (£24) were both very good. Breakfast is fine, a small buffet selection and à la carte choices such as the full English for £20.

Me and my husband stay there for a night for our 31 wedding anniversary. It was well worth the money the breakfast was lovely the staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family. Great location to get to the 02 Stratford shopping centre is not too far away On the DLR lots of great places to visit a long river. You can also go on the cable cars With the amazing views many places to eat in 02 . Stratford . Canary wharf has amazing bar called brew dog . And if you like the old fashioned style fare game there a place called . Fare games in Canary Wharf just look for the big yellow duck it’s not too expensive it’s an over 18 venue you can get food there . The night we had dinner there was a staff member Usha Kiran and their team were absolutely lovely , they helped us in choosing the best food and cocktails. We booked the Sunborn Yacht Hotel as a surprise for my dad’s 50th birthday. Even before we arrived the staff were so lovely, we called ahead to ensure the hotel could cater to me being in a wheelchair and they were very helpful. The check in process was easy and we were given all the information we needed. When my dad arrived to his room he had a cake, balloons and bubbly waiting as we booked the Birthday Arrival package which was way worth the money it looked great and he was so surprised! The rooms are absolutely stunning just as was the whole of the hotel - it didn’t disappoint in the slightest it was perfect for the special occasion! The staff were super helpful and upgraded my room due to needing some further upgrades due to my disability and illness. They were so understanding and catered to my every need. Honestly couldn’t recommend enough the rooms were beautiful, the whole hotel was beautiful, the bar and restaurant was lovely, the staff were so helpful and kind and we all had the best time! Couldn’t recommend enough!

The 136-room Sunborn London is an upper-mid-range hotel in the form of a 394-foot super yacht moored in London's Royal Victoria Dock. Rooms are pleasant, surprisingly spacious, and most have views over the water, though decor is more cruise liner than luxury yacht. Some rooms have spacious decks and big soaking tubs; all have coffeemakers, minibars, and flat-screen TVs. Eating and drinking options are solid though lack of fitness facilities feels like an oversight. An upper-mid-range floating hotel set on a super yacht .

The Sunborn London is not only the capital's only floating hotel, it's the only one occupying a 394-foot super yacht. Built without an engine, however, it was towed from its native Finland and opened as upper-mid-range water-based lodgings in 2014. From the outside -- with its sleek marine lines -- it looks every inch the luxury vessel. Inside , however, the look and feel is deliberately more traditional, with polished brass railings, teakwood paneling, and the occasional nautical touches across all five of its floors. The resulting vibe is certainly more cruise ship (albeit an attractive one) than billionaire's playground. There's plenty of outside space on deck for enjoying the surrounding docks -- if not the most attractive of views -- accompanied by the sound of planes taking of and landing at the nearby City Airport. A solid pick for the novelty factor and for guests with business at the nearby conference center, this hotel is a bit far from main tourist attractions.

Moored in Royal Victoria Dock to the east of London's Canary Wharf

The hotel is permanently moored in the London ’s Royal Victoria Dock in the Docklands area in the east of the capital. The city's largest conference and events venue -- the Excel Center -- is located right opposite while the DLR (Dockland's Light Railway) station of Custom House is just minutes away on foot. From here it's just about 15 minutes by train to London's business district of Canary Wharf. While it's not ideally located for tourists, public transport links to the city center in around half an hour. City Airport however is right nearby and takes less than 10 minutes by car. 

Relatively spacious rooms with Sony tablets and Lavazza coffeemakers

The hotel's 136 rooms are certainly a lot larger than your average cruise ship cabins, but all follow cruise liner styling with plenty of polished teak, brass trim, and maritime touches. Unlike a cruise ship, all rooms are outward facing and most have large picture windows overlooking the water (some have small furnished balconies too). Amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs plus sitting areas, and a Sony tablet for web browsing and ordering room service. Lavazza coffeemakers and minibars with free water also come standard. Clean, well-maintained bathrooms provide wall-mounted hairdryers, walk-in showers, and Molton Brown products. The top-end Yacht Executive Suite we saw had its own private sauna and large balcony.

Restaurant and terrace with water views, free Wi-Fi, and a small spa with massage treatments

The hotel's Lands End restaurant provides a pleasant space awash with mirrored glass and teak paneling with large windows overlooking the water. A la carte and set breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus are served with British, Asian, and Mediterranean influences. The adjoining bar provides house cocktails, snacks, and meals as well as an outdoor terrace with views of Canary Wharf and the O2 arena. A small spa also provides a range of massage treatments though there are no fitness facilities on-site. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

In 2003 we developed and opened our first international yacht hotel – Sunborn London. Overnight we brought to market a completely new and original hotel concept, a property which became a well known landmark building in London. 

Offering a unique experience to business and leisure guests, the success of the first Sunborn London proved the concept worked as a stand alone hotel and was the first time in the world that a fully operational hotel building was relocated to another country. 

Sunborn London | Superyacht II

The first Sunborn London was a ground-breaking hotel and proof of concept. After its success we upgraded the hotel in 2014 to a larger, 2nd generation yacht hotel, with 138 guest rooms, improved operational facilities and larger hospitality and events spaces.

With the new Sunborn London we also signed our first long-term lease with an operational partner. Operated under the Sunborn Yacht Hotels brand the new hotel has been a major commercial success, with above market revenues and occupancy rates.

A key advantage of our yacht hotels is the ability to move, upgrade and expand hotels in the same waterfront location. In 2021 we received full planning permission for the new Sunborn London, our 4th generation yacht hotel.

Our biggest and most advanced yacht hotel to date, the newly constructed 134m vessel will expand the hotel operation to 225 guest rooms and feature a 200 seat restaurant, as well as more extensive leisure and event facilities. The new Sunborn London will also be a carbon zero yacht hotel, through its sustainable design and use energy efficient materials, smart glazing and thermal heat exchange systems.

Buoyant bedrooms

Floatels, boatels, whatever you want to call them – hotels that place you right over the water offer some of the world's best views. Who wouldn't want to step out of bed and straight into the Indian Ocean, for example, or wake up to vistas of a historic Scottish port? Or how about waking up in a hotel room frozen in a lagoon? It's all possible at these incredible floating hotels across the globe.

Svart, Norway

Set in the wilds of northern Norway, at the base of the Svartisen glacier, this hotel  is held up for its green credentials. When it opens in 2024 (after being delayed in 2022), it's set to be the world's first 'energy-positive' hotel (meaning it'll generate more energy than it uses), since the roof is covered in solar panels. And, of course, it has a dreamy location on the glassy Holandsfjorden fjord, built on stilts above the water.

Six Senses Laamu, Maldives

In an archipelago of brilliantly white islands surrounded by the azure Indian Ocean, it would be almost criminal not to make the most of the water. That's why, in the Maldives, there are plenty of hotels with floating (or seemingly floating) rooms. But Six Senses Laamu is the only resort in the Laamu Atoll. Surrounded by a beautiful coral reef, there are 97 beachfront and water villas, all crafted using local and sustainable materials.

Arctic Bath Hotel, Sweden

This one-of-a-kind property is a true floating hotel. In summer, it glides serenely on the Lule River, and in winter, when the ice sets in, it's fixed to one spot, accessible via a pontoon. Arctic Bath Hotel's intriguing design draws inspiration from the woods, with a criss-crossed log exterior and a string of sleek guest rooms, each with direct access to the water. There's a modern cabin for five people back on land too. 

Angsana Velavaru, Maldives

This little isle is home to yet another amazing Maldivian resort. Angsana Velavaru is set on the stunning Velavaru Lagoon and has 33 'InOcean' villas, all with direct access to the water and spectacular views. The double-story villas offer a private infinity pool, and for even more overwater action, guests can relax from hammocks suspended above the ocean.

Pumphouse Point, Tasmania, Australia

In the wilds of Tasmania, Lake St Clair has some of the most impressive accommodation on the island territory. The Pumphouse at Pumphouse Point is an old industrial building, 820 feet (250m) out into the glacial waters with spectacular surrounding scenery. Inside, it's modern and minimalist, allowing you to focus on the wonderful mountain views through its huge windows. 

The Pumphouse has three floors, all with lake view rooms, and a gorgeous, inviting lounge with a wood burning fire for cozy evenings in. The pontoon that leads out from the shore has ample space for deck chairs, so you can grab a book or a glass of wine and take in the wilderness for an afternoon. For active types, there are nature walks in the surrounding forest, including part of the world-famous Overland Track route. 

The Float House, River Kwai Resort, Thailand

Stunning resorts aren't hard to come by in Thailand – the country has a plethora of fancy beachside hotels and luxury treetop accommodation. But this boutique hotel is special: it sits right on the Khwae Noi River with a number of pretty thatched villas for guests. 

Good Hotel, London, England, UK

You can feel good about staying in this floating hotel. The Good Hotel in east London's Royal Victoria Docks is more than just a Thames-side accommodation option. The hotel is also a social-good project, hiring and training unemployed locals. There are also properties in Antigua, Guatemala and Amsterdam, each with their own philanthropic endeavors. 

And just because it's all about giving back doesn't mean it can't feel special. Pared-back luxury is the theme here, with neutral tones complementing the river vistas and an industrial-chic design throughout. Deluxe rooms have king-sized beds, and the rooftop is ideal for drinks with a great view.

Fingal, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK

Opened in January 2019, this handsome ship is in fact a beautiful 23-room floating hotel , permanently docked in historic Leith in Edinburgh. Once a Northern Lighthouse Board ship, it was revamped by the team at The Royal Yacht Britannia and now offers guests a seriously luxurious stay, with various types of cabin available and a deck with glorious views out to the Scottish capital. 

Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, India

Often lauded as the most romantic city in India, Udaipur has prime position on the shores of Lake Pichola. And no hotel is better placed here than the Taj Lake Palace , which sits 650 feet (198m) off the shore in the calm, shimmering waters. Formerly a summer retreat for the Mewar dynasty, it hasn't lost any of its luxurious royal vibes. 

Off Paris Seine, Paris, France

What better way to enjoy the romance of the Seine than to sleep on it? You can do this at Off Paris Seine , a glamorous, 4-star hotel right in the middle of the city. At more than 260 feet (79m), this is the longest vessel permanently moored on the Seine, and its striking design is the handiwork of Parisian boat architect Gérard Ronzatti.

Sunborn, London, England, UK

If you're not rich enough to own a super yacht, Sunborn is here for you. Get the full luxury yacht experience on board this floating hotel on the Thames in London's Docklands area. Dine with views out to the sparkling skyscrapers of Canary Wharf, before retiring to the sumptuous cabins for a night on the water. 

There's even an onboard spa, where you can enjoy aromatherapy and skincare treatments, while afternoon tea is served in the restaurant for a traditional British experience. Just don't get too used to it, as a yacht like this one would usually set you back tens of millions of pounds.

Uakari Floating Lodge, Brazil

Deep in the Brazilian Amazon's Várzea – a flooded forest – this floating lodge is the place to stay if wildlife is your bag. Right in the thick of the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve, the lodge is surrounded by a bio-diverse wilderness where monkeys swing in the tree canopies and sloths idle on branches.

From your villa's veranda you can spot plenty of exotic birds, from tui parakeets to scarlet macaws, and on nature walks you're likely to see the curious-looking bald uakari monkeys, as well as black caiman, both pink and gray river dolphins and sloths. The lodge is part of the Reef & Rainforest Tours 'off-the-beaten-track' itinerary , which takes in some of Brazil's lesser-visited highlights. 

Savasi Island Resort, Fiji

If staying on these paradise islands just isn't cool enough for you, book into Serenity at Savasi Island Resort. This vessel is a 140-foot (43m) schooner moored permanently in the bright blue waters of Savasi Island marina in Savusavu, northern Fiji. There are five staterooms onboard, each with wonderfully light, minimalist decor, as well as a cinema room and restaurant.

On the top deck there are sun loungers aplenty for those seeking a tan and guests can also make use of the excellent facilities at the land-based resort, including the pool and the gorgeous white-sand beaches.

Manta Resort, Tanzania

Taking floating hotels to the extreme is Manta Resort  off the coast of Pemba Island in Tanzania. Because overwater villas simply aren't enough for it, the resort has also got an incredible 'in-water' villa, which is quite literally stranded out to sea. The villa has three floors, one of which is underwater. 

Accessible only by boat from the main resort, the structure has a top deck for sunbathing and stargazing, then a shady veranda beneath. You'll sleep with the fishes here – in the least morbid way possible – as the bedroom is located below sea level with incredible views of the colorful marine life that swims about in the surrounding water.

QE2, Dubai, UAE

Once one of the most luxurious and legendary cruise liners of the seas, the QE2 is now permanently docked at Dubai's Mina Rashid cruise terminal and finally opened in 2018, after a 10-year restoration process, as a luxury hotel. It's filled with 224 luxurious rooms, including two Royal suites.

Expect a pool and gym, a duty-free shopping arcade and a theater offering local and international entertainment. There's also an exhibition about the ship's history next door for those who want to learn more about the cruise liner's prestigious past. All rooms have sea or city views, with clever seating around the original portholes for hours spent gazing out to the UAE's glitziest city.

Casa en el Agua, Colombia

Floating hotels aren't just the preserve of the wealthy, and they don't have to be 5-star luxury properties either. In Colombia, Casa en el Agua , or 'House on the Water', is a hostel with a difference. Set in the San Bernardo Corals National Park in Colombia, this modest little hostel enjoys a prime location atop the turquoise Caribbean Sea.

Surrounded by small, verdant islands, it's a stunning place to stay, and the low starting prices mean it's open to all budgets. You can choose from hammocks suspended on an open deck, or splash out on a king-sized room which still won't put you out of pocket. Decor is minimal, with rustic wooden walls and a thatched roof, but you don't need fancy trimmings when you're sleeping in paradise.

The Ritz-Carlton, Fari Islands, Maldives

The islands of the Maldives are filled with luxurious properties that make the most of their location in the Indian Ocean location, and this is one of the newest. Operated by Ritz-Carlton – and looking particularly spectacular when captured from the sky – it comprises sleek villas arranged in a neat oval shape above the ocean's surface. Each has a private infinity pool, rain showers, floor-to-ceiling glass windows and your own private butler. 

The circular spa is set over the ocean too – here you can indulge in ultra-luxe treatments, from bamboo massages to natural body wraps using Maldivian herbs. There are also seven restaurants and bars, including a fine-dining Japanese option and a more laid-back beach shack with DJ sets. 

Marina Lofts, British Virgin Islands

Kayak the azure-blue waters from your incredible abode at the  Bitter End Yacht Club . The club's new Marina Lofts, inspired by vintage sail-lofts, are the only overwater bungalows in the British Virgin Islands. Needless to say a stay here is the most blissful way to make the most of your location on Virgin Gorda.

Each two-story wooden villa consists of a lower decking area complete with a ladder leading into the sea, a hammock, table and chairs – ideal for watching yachts sail in and out of the marina – and inside living room. The upper level features an airy bedroom with another outside deck for more seascape moments. 

Aurora Huts, Vatnajökull, Iceland

Inside the 97-square-foot (9sqm) igloos you'll find a cozy double bed and ensuite bathroom, while there is (thankfully) central heating to keep things toasty. With panoramic glass windows on one side, the rooms are designed to maximize guests' chance of seeing the Northern Lights. While Vatnajökull glacier is a popular place for visitors during the day, until now, people couldn't stay the night here, so the experience is a pretty exclusive one. These London bakeries and pastry shops have been named the best in the world

La Liste has just revealed the very best bakeries on the planet – and 101 of them are in London

La Liste , a global guide to the best restaurants and hotels in the world, has just dropped its flakiest, doughiest list of them all; the Pastry Awards 2024.

London didn’t win any of the major awards this time around (in fact, only one UK bakery did, with Lannan Bakery and chef Darcie Maher in Edinburgh named as ‘Pastry Opening of the Year’), though a whopping amount of London bakeries were included in the 3,000 global pastry shops that were recommended by La Liste as the world’s best. 

La Liste uses a combination of crowdsourced guides such as TripAdvisor as well as press reviews, international dining guides and the likes of Michelin and Zagat to build its rankings. This year, London bakeries to receive the nod included Dusty Knuckle in Dalston, Pophams in London Fields, Sourdough Sophia in Crouch End, Baban’s Naan in Finsbury Park, Jolene in Newington Green, Fortitude Bakehouse in Bloomsbury, Toad in Peckham, Shiok! in Liverpool Street,  Arôme Bakery in Covent Garden and Chinatown Bakery.

A number of afternoon teas were also singled out for their excellence, including  Afternoon Tea at Claridge’s, Afternoon Tea at The Savoy, Afternoon Tea at The Orchid Lounge at Pan Pacific London and  The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon at Fortnum & Mason.

Aeroflot begins Airbus 330-300 service between Moscow and London

Aeroflot has begun service with widebody Airbus 330-300 aircraft on its evening flights between Moscow and London. 

Starting 1 June 2017, the airline is operating A330-300 airliners with a total of 302 seats (268 in Economy Class and 34 in Business Class) on its evening Moscow-London route and overnight London-Moscow route.

Widebody Airbus 330 aircraft are equipped with built-in entertainment systems in Economy Class and reclined flat bed seats with a 62/60-inch pitch in Business Class. It’s Airbus A330s are fully wifi- enabled.

A330-300s are in service for the following flights (all time local):

SU2584 departs Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport daily (except Monday & Saturday) at 7:25 p.m. and arrives London’s Heathrow airport at 9:25 p.m.

SU2585 departs London daily (except Monday & Saturday) at 10:45 p.m. and arrives in Moscow at 4:25 a.m. on the following day.

SU263 departs Sheremetyevo at 6:35 p.m. Monday and 7:25 p.m. Saturday and arrives Heathrow at 8:55 p.m. and 9:25 p.m. respectively.

SU2575 departs Heathrow at 10:45 p.m. and arrives in Moscow at 4:25 a.m. the following day.

Since autumn 2016 Aeroflot has offered up to 35 flights per week (as many as five flights per day) between Moscow and London, flying to both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
