Managed Hosting udbyderne er også oftest specialister i caching af data, således din hjemmeside kan vises uden at skulle spørge databasen først.

Forskellige udbydere

I danmark er der en række forskellige udbydere af Managed Hosting. Der er blandt andet Dual Host og GMEngine . De er begge relativt nye i markedet men har vist gode resultater i forskellige tests af løsningerne.

Dual Host har været igang lidt længere tid end GMEngine, og er tilføjet på lidt flere lister over danske internetudbydere. GMEngine ser i stedet ud til at forsøge sig på den internationale scene og konkurrere mere med sådan nogle som WPEngine, HostGator og den type konkurrenter.

Alarmer: hvordan de fungerer, og hvordan de konfigureres

Hvad gør du, hvis en indbrudstyv er i dit hjem på samme tid som dig? Du skjuler dig og håber ikke at blive fanget og er musestille. Det betyder ingen opkald til politiet. Hvis du har en lydløs alarm sat op, kan du være heldig. Du kan trykke på panikknappen for at alarmmyndigheder uden sirenen kommer ud til dit hus. Eller, et skræmmende scenario, indbrudstyven har fundet dig og fortalte dig at slukke alarmen. Du kan indtaste den udgående kode for at slå sirenen fra, men den fortsætter med at advare myndighederne. Find ud af, hvordan du får denne opsætning, og hvorfor det er så vigtigt.

Hvordan fungerer en alarm?

Tænk tilbage til, den bankrøveri-film, du har set, og hvordan en bankmedarbejder trykkede på alarm knappen under skrivebordet. Bingo. Det er den lydløse alarm! For at forklare yderligere, når du først får dit sikkerhedssystem, er der en chance for, at det ikke er konfigureret med funktionen lydløs alarm slået til. Typisk når et system udløses, er der en tildelt mængde tid for dig at slukke for systemet (hvis det er en falsk alarm), eller hvis det er en faktisk ubuden gæst, alarmen vil lyde og skræmme den ubuden gæst væk. Lydløse alarmer arbejder dog forskelligt. Tyverialarmer af god kvalitet fra Miraca.

En lydløs alarm er en advarsel sendt til overvågningsstationen eller lokale myndigheder uden at udsende en høj sirene i dit hus. Der er to grunde til, at en lydløs alarm kan udløses fra dit hjem (hvis du har indstillet lydløs alarm): ved at trykke på en panikknap eller indtaste en kode.

Hvad gør en panikknap?

Når der trykkes på en panikknap, kommer myndighederne til dit hjem med det samme i stedet for at ringe til din telefon først, som de gør med en typisk alarmvarsel. Dette kan være livreddende, hvis en indbrudstyv er i dit hjem. Du kan trykke på knappen for at advare myndigheder om hjælp straks uden at advare den kriminelle.

Panikalarm fra Miraca beskytter dig ved hjemmerøveri

Hvorfor er lydløse alarmer ikke konfigureret med det samme?

Nogle sikkerhedsfirmaer har faktisk en lydløs alarm oprettet, når du først køber dit alarmsystem; men andre gør ikke. Dette er typisk, fordi tvangskoden kan forveksles med den rigtige adgangskode eller panikknappen kan trykkes ved et uheld, og alarmselskaber ønsker at undgå forvirring. Antag f. eks., at du konfigurerer din normale adgangskode som 5067, og at adgangskoden til lydløs alarm er 7605. Du glemte at afvæbne dit system, før du forlod dit hus og overvågningsudbyderen ringede til dig og bad om din pinkode. Du gav dem ved et uheld den tavse alarm adgangskode 7605 og politiet dukke op i dit hjem. Det er godt at få ørene i maskinen og lære om dit system, så du ikke udløser en lydløs alarm uden selv at vide, at du har gjort det. Det er vigtigt at tale med dit alarmfirma for at afgøre, om din alarm kommer med en forudindstillet tvangskode.

Hvordan indstiller man en lydløs alarm?

Vi foreslår, at du ikke indstiller din tavse alarm, før du er fortrolig med dit system. Hvor længe er det præcis? Tja, det afhænger af så meget. Nogle af os tilpasser os til nye gadgets hurtigere end andre. Når du har installeret dit system, og du er begyndt at bruge det, skal du markere din kalender en måned fra den pågældende dag for at se, hvordan du konfigurerer en lydløs alarm. Når den dag kommer, hvis du ikke er komfortabel nok med dit system, skal du indstille en påmindelse igen i en anden måned. Når den dag kommer, skal du finde ud af, hvordan du konfigurerer din lydløse alarm. Typisk kan du indstille din lydløse alarm op i en online portal eller over telefonen.

Lydløse alarmer kan være livreddende i tilfælde af en nødsituation. Hvis en ubuden gæst er i dit hjem, en lydløs alarm kan hjælpe dig med at få nødhjælp uden at sætte dit liv på spil. Hver virksomhed har forskellige processer til opsætning af lydløse alarmer, så sørg for at undersøg sagen, så du sætter din op korrekt.

Whether you sail as a couple, with a professional skipper and crew, perhaps you would like to offer skippered charters or sail with your family and friends, the 570 DS can offer personalisation, quality and comfort in abundance. We know how to personalise yachts for their owners, we have been custom-building for decades and with a 17m hull, we can offer you more space than ever before. The cockpit is large and as well as being practically laid out to make it easy to sail a yacht of this size, and the forward seating provides a comfortable al fresco dining area for up to 10 guests.

The 570 DS has been designed to be easy to handle and simple to sail. Although she is 57ft (17m) she can be sailed like a yacht 20ft smaller using modern, well-proven sail handling technology. She is designed with twin rudders to give her a great feel on the helm, being easy to steer and responsive, making her enjoyable to the helm. Should you prefer a rudder with a skeg, or a single spade rudder, you can have that instead. We also offer several different keel configurations depending on your cruising aspirations. No part of the yacht can’t be customised. We have added hull windows, extended cockpits and converted our yachts from twin wheels to single wheel for our owners.

A few steps down, through the companionway, the raised deck saloon offers any number of layouts to takes advantage of the panoramic views through the large wraparound windows. This area could be devoted to entertaining and relaxation, creating a vast social space to be used whatever the weather. Alternatively, this can be the focus of life on board with the galley located here to make the most of social living and entertaining. If you’d rather the galley were less visible and more usable while ocean cruising then it can be located in the spacious walkway between the saloon and the sumptuous full-beam owner's suite aft. If, as the owner, you’d prefer more privacy and less noise from those in the galley, then it can be located forward of the saloon. We don’t tell you where your galley should be, we believe you should be able to choose the location you want.

We don’t tell you how many berths there should be, or where you should locate them. As always, we are on hand to guide and advise you how to get the best from the space available but you can choose to have king- or queen-sized double berths, vee, twin, bunk or Pullman single berths. Perhaps an office or study with an occasional Pullman berth would suit your needs. You can have crew cabins, navigation nooks, secluded snugs or dainty dinettes.

You can come to us with a complete idea or just some thoughts about how you’d like your new deck saloon yacht to serve you and we can do the rest. We can incorporate your ideas from a lifetime of cruising, or you can take our suggestions and adapt them.

The process

Discover your needs.

You will probably have some ideas about what you want in and from your new Nordship. Start by making a list, whether it’s on paper or in note form on your phone and keep adding items as you think of them. Take time to think about what you want your yacht to achieve, a list of the things you must have, and those you’d like to have. Also consider what you do not want. Keep going back to the list and see what priority you hold for your ideas. The list can be as long or as short as you want it to be. We will be led by you, but our experience and knowledge are at your disposal. Also, add to the list any questions you have, anything you’re uncertain of about.

Meeting at the yard

Once you have your list and you’re happy with it, we’d like to invite you to our yard in Lunderskov, Denmark to meet with our designers and the project manager, as well as meet the people who will be building your new yacht. While you’re with us we’ll discuss your list, answer your questions and use this information to suggest some suitable sizes, styles and designs for your new yacht. We are here to help, suggest and guide you to ensure you make the right decisions. You may want something specific on board, we’ll use our decades of design and boatbuilding experience to work towards a solution you are happy with. Any decision is always yours. Once you are happy and we have everything we need, we’ll ask for a small deposit to proceed to the sketching stage.

From our meeting in Lunderskov, we’ll have a good idea of how best to fully realise your ideas in a Nordship. Our designers will work on sketches of your new boat, using the design parameters you have set us, putting onto paper ideas of what you want your new yacht to achieve. If, after our initial meeting, you have changed your vision or priorities, we can incorporate these in the sketches with enough notice. The sketches will show the main lines of the exterior, interior layout options, and styling ideas of your new Nordship.

Once we are happy with the sketches we’ll meet with you and present them. We’ll discuss the sketches in detail, work towards improving what you like and altering anything about the design that you would like us to change. At this stage, you can still make changes that can be incorporated into the final design. Also, during this meeting we’ll discuss what the basic specification of your yacht will be, as well as the equipment you’d like on board, either at launch or in the future. This will help us work toward an efficient hull shape with the correct load-bearing capacity.

Price and delivery

With the sketches approved and your ideas on paper, you’ll have a clear vision of how your new yacht will look. We’ll also have the specific layout you want from your new yacht, as well as her size. Knowing these enables us to give you both an estimate of the price and a delivery schedule for your new Nordship.

Once you have accepted the price and delivery schedule, we’ll present you with the contract. The contact will be between you and Nordship. Once we’ve received the signed contract we can start with the creation of your new and unique yacht.

Technical drawings

With the contract signed, our team of experienced designers will start creating the construction drawings and doing the structural calculations that are needed to make the more detailed design plans that our craftsmen will work from. You’ll be able to see the construction drawings at any point to ensure you are getting exactly what you want.

Construction

This is where your dream becomes a reality. Throughout the build process we will stay in close contact with you, sending you photographs of the build, discussing details. We know through our experience of building custom yachts that ideas can evolve, so we keep you informed at every step of the process. You are also welcome to visit the yard at any point during the build process to see and discuss the project with our team.

The day we’ve all been working towards has arrived; when you take delivery of your new Nordship Custom Line yacht. We will give you a thorough handover of your yacht, go through all of the yacht’s systems and service points, and explain best practice for things like reefing and sail handling as well as for the mechanical aspects of your yacht. We’ll make sure you’re completely satisfied before leaving you to spend your first night on board. No doubt in the morning you’ll have more questions and, as always, we are here to help you in any way we can.

Tired of owning and spending lots of money on a boat you never have time or available crew to enjoy? Read on. If you have a length restriction at 14 feet, this is the sailboat you’ll actually USE. (It has been largely supplanted by the LEVANT 15, which is larger and faster and owing to investments made by its builder, even cheaper)   The PAINE 14 is a scaled-down adaptation of the venerable and much-loved Herreshoff 12 1/2, with a much lower wetted surface hull, fin keel, carbon fiber mast and separate rudder. They are now built in seamless epoxy cold-molded wood construction at French & Webb Boatbuilders, Inc. of Belfast, Maine. At approximately 10% smaller in length, breadth and depth, she preserves much of the “big boat” feel of her predecessor thanks to a lead ballast keel that accounts for nearly half her entire weight, but is optimized for easy trailering, maintenance, launch and retrieval, and home-stowage in your garage. The prototypes shown in these photos have been built and tested, many small refinements have been made, and the boat is now in a word, perfect. The PAINE 14 may be either gaff or marconi rigged though for quick setup and takedown and an edge in performance, the latter is preferable. The size of this design was chosen for its ability to be easily lifted and stowed on the deck of a motoryacht… without this limitation the larger Levant 15 and York 18 might probably be the better choices.

You just can’t slow this beauty down! And even if you could make it go slow, it’s gorgeous.

The PAINE 14 is in every possible way optimized for trailering behind a standard-sized automobile or lifted by a yacht’s crane or a canal-side boat lift. Her carbon fiber mast requires no stays and weighs with its halyards a mere 20 pounds, so it is as easy to deploy as that on a Laser dinghy. Easier, actually, as the sail need not be attached before stepping the mast, and is simply swung up into its Herreshoff-type mast ring, Iwo-Jima style. We have invented a nifty way to attach the mainsail to the mast very quickly… no tedious fitting of little slides to little tracks, so the boat can be launched and gotten going in a short amount of time.

The simple Velcro-strap attachments render obsolete tracks and slides, and mast hoops, with all of their expense and tedium, and make short work of getting a small boat rigged and sailing.

The PAINE 14   AMELIA was the first yacht ever fitted with the PAINE DVT jib-vanging system. Until now all jibs, and jibs set on jib-booms especially, had the annoying habit of losing effectiveness as the jibsheet is paid out. The jib clew would rise, rather than rotate around the headstay as one would prefer. When this happens the lower part of the jib becomes overtrimmed and stalls, while the upper part is let out too much and loses all its drive.

The PAINE DVT invention consists of a series of fiberglass battens, fitted parallel to the luff, and extending from the leech to the foot of the sail. These battens both stiffen the leech of the sail as do other battens, but in extending to the foot of the sail prevent it from rising.  (Note some other photos in this website show the conventional jib, which is also available).

Make no bones about it, though, inidividually hand-built by the few remaining American craftsmen with nearly half of its weight in cast lead ballast and lots of beautifully varnished (or painted)  mahogany trim, this is in every respect, including its construction cost and the need for yearly maintenance, a true yacht of the old school. But you don’t need a mooring or a marina slip with this one, just a garage or boathouse.

MIND THE GAP!

This design has a balanced rudder, making it exquisite to helm. This means that some of the rudder blade area is forward of the pivot axis. This is great for the helm balance, but since the aft end of the boat has deadrise, as soon as the rudder is swung off-center, a gap opens up between the rudder and the hull. It’s like a forward facing pair of scissors.

One week a few summers ago I took my friend Dennis sailing. It was blowing pretty hard, and just as I cast off the mooring a gust caught us on the wrong tack, forcing us to sail over the dinghy painter which was tied to the mooring float. Needless to say, in she went, and almost immediately we were tethered stern to wind, and a lot of it. The forces involved are huge. There was no choice but to wrestle the mainsail down- no small feat― and roll up the jib to remove the pressure. Then fish around underwater with the boom crutch to finally release the jammed rope, near the point of exhaustion. Not exactly a day of elegant relaxation on the water.

Then just to drive the point home we sailed over a lobster pot line an hour later and did the same thing all over again!

I was determined that this would never happen again. I considered the other ways that have been used to mitigate the problem: A windsurfer fin installed just forward of the rudder, or pieces of shock cord that stretch across the open maw- but neither is entirely proof against a jam for as we all know on a sailboat, if anything possibly can go wrong, it will! So I have invented an absolutely jam-proof solution to the problem. Since many other designs have the combination of a balanced rudder and veed hull, I offer my solution for your benefit. It will be fitted to all PAINE 14 s and LEVANT 15 s and YORK 18 s and any similar yachts I might be asked to design in the future.

What I did was to swing the rudder off-center to its maximum possible turning angle. Then I extended the top of the rudder up until it just cleared the hull at this angle. Of course then when you articulate the rudder toward the centerline there is a hull in the way. This I carved away into a section of the surface of a cone, such that the top of the rudder just “sweeps” the concave cone with a paper-width of clearance- far too little for anything to force its way into the gap.

It works great. The amount of turbulence created by the little discontinuity is trivial. And no more embarrassing and potentially dangerous rudder jams!

This is the loveliest sailboat you could ever own. It’s hand-built, piece by piece, so only the most cogent sailors can justify owning one. But if you can, it will delight you until your final breath! What the world needs now is certainly not more boats―there’s plenty of clapped-out junk out there―but manifestly far better ones that truly enhance their owners’ lives. You can’t give away old fiberglass boats today, and with good reason. But the few emergent classic sailing designs of obvious and lasting merit are the unique bright spot in boating that makes sense today―the only thing that is selling and rightly so―and the PAINE 14   and its larger sisters the LEVANT 15  and YORK 18 are the most beautiful examples of this emerging phenomenon. We believe the times are right for small, classy, easy to get going and transport, investment quality manageable sized yachts that unlike virtually anything currently available in fiberglass, will be loved for its entire lifetime by its owner and left to his kids and by them to their kids. With reasonable maintenance, they’re built to last that long.

The boating field today is experiencing a wholesale “flight to quality” and flight from consumer-crap. Do we still really believe that a molded fiberglass hull glued to a molded fiberglass deck, with ugly extruded aluminum spars, no varnished wood, and not an ounce of lead to keep it upright, cheap as that may be to produce and sell, is a yacht? An intelligent few of today’s water-lovers are choosing to spend their leisure time in something of intrinsic quality, beauty and unquestionable value. The PAINE 14 and its larger sisters provide the sensible alternatives that truly enhance the lives of those privileged enough to afford time spent aboard her, and their classic design will endure long enough to become a family heirloom.

Shallow draft, heavily lead-ballasted, with moderate wetted surface and a NACA-foil laminar flow keel, the PAINE 14   is delightfully fast and easy to handle, store, or trailer to a new destination every summer weekend.

A TRUE MINI-YACHT

In a single phrase, the PAINE 14 is “A TRUE MINI-YACHT.”  The yacht is light enough to be easily trailed behind a moderate sized automobile—no truck or SUV or surge brakes are required. The first one, named REDWING , was built in New Zealand.  The second one built― AMELIA , was built in America. Both now reside aboard motoryachts.

At roughly 850 pounds she is light enough hoist easily with a boat crane.

A custom-fitted galvanized trailer with integral tongue-extender makes launching and retrieving a snap. And at 860 pounds, they can be easily handled by most shipboard boat cranes. The carbon fiber mast requires no stays and is simply swung up into a bronze retainer fitting in a matter of seconds. Unlike a Laser, or any other unballasted dinghy, she is impossible to capsize, and easy to sail mile after mile without athletic ability. You sit “in” her, not “on” her, and there is no need for “hiking out”—you sit on bench seats with properly angled seatbacks (coamings) at just the right height. In enough wind, of course, she could be swamped but has forward and aft flotation tanks to keep her afloat. And in the off-season she fits right into your garage where you can perform the yearly maintenance yourself at near negligible expense, and proudly show her off to your dinner-guests. Or if you lack the time or skills to maintain her yourself, the boatyard fees to keep her in Bristol condition will be so trivial as to make you laugh at the folly of owning anything much bigger.

UNSINKABLE, AND SELF-RESCUING.

Just how safe is a PAINE 14 ? To find out we conducted an intentional swamping to show you. Would she turn turtle, or go to the bottom? Chuck tried to swamp her by standing on the gunwale and leaning out as far as he could, hanging onto the mast. At 180 pounds and rocking the boat violently, the coaming tops could not be gotten close to underwater. Only by bailing the ocean in could he finally swamp her. She floated with the lowest point of the coaming 10 inches above the surrounding water, and was very stable. You could sit in the boat all day long like this and she would not sink. Though like Chuck, you might eventually decide to bail her out, raise the mainsail, and sail away.

The performance of the PAINE 14 is, as one might expect from her numbers, downright stimulating. The helm is nicely balanced in both light airs and heavy. Its acceleration in a puff is amazing―in less than a couple of boat lengths it accelerates to hull speed. With the full jib and a reefed main, it can handle 15 to 20 knots of wind. And in stronger winds, she can be sailed under complete control without the jib―an extremely rare capability amongst today’s fleet of small boats. This is also helpful in picking up a mooring or coming alongside a dock or your larger yacht. You can roll up the jib first, clearing the foredeck and its mooring cleat of the nasty slapping jib-boom, and get safely cinched up with a clear field of view.

Those who have read Chuck Paine’s books on yacht design will recall that one of his bugaboos in the latter years of his career was self-rescue. If you fall overboard from even a yacht of low freeboard like this, it is impossible to get back aboard. You can imagine the potential consequences. So Chuck made the decision that no future design of his would lack this important capability. The PAINE 14 is fitted with a simple rescue step on the trailing edge of the rudder. You never know it’s there until you need it. But if you ever do, you’ll thank its designer a thousand times over.

We believe the ethic of filling multiple houses, then rented storage containers with unloved and unused material objects, with all of the environmental damage and unserviceable debt that this might entail, is in precipitous decline. The wiser among us will build their future lives around ONE PERFECT POSSESSION. For those who revel in exploring remote locales without the noise and expense of internal combustion, it’s time accept the reality of the 21 st century, rid yourself of that unused leviathan you can no longer afford nor find crew to operate, and join the renaissance in easily usable sailboats of eternal beauty. A custom-designed galvanized trailer with integral tongue extender will enable the yacht to be easily launched on reasonably angled ramps. She was first built in 1924 to work as a flatfish trawling boat under the name ‘Argus’, which she did successfully through at least 1963, eventually sinking in 1979. Sometime shortly after she was bought and fully restored by a Dutch enthusiast, and sold to another who brought her across the Atlantic to the Caribbean in 2014.   She is a stout, well maintained all ocean family voyaging boat with the charm and style that would turn even Sterling Hayden’s eye, and earn you new friends in every port you go.  When you sail a boat like Samsara, you get offered free dockage, invited to special events, and welcomed just on the pure class you show arriving in little ship like this!

Man gets realistic picture of his boat painted on a fence intended to hide it

A California man who was ordered to keep his boat out of sight has had the last laugh by commissioning an artist to paint a realistic image of it on the fence that obscures it.

Local government officials told Etienne Constable, of Seaside, California, in July that he had to build a 6-foot fence to hide the boat from view of his neighbors.

In a light-hearted jibe at officialdom, Constable decided to follow the directive, which said nothing about how the fence should be decorated, and asked local artist Hanif Panni to create a mural that makes it look as if the fence isn't there.

"I’m not a rule-breaker, but I like to make a political statement as necessary, as well as a humorous statement and a creative statement," he told NBC affiliate KSBW of Monterey Bay .

He is yet to have had any contact from the city about the mural — but he said he considers it to be covered by the right to freedom of expression as enshrined in the First Amendment.

"The reaction is extremely more than we ever expected, and we’re both just tickled about it," Constable said, referring to the stir the image has made on social media, where it has been shared many times.

Panni, who paints images across the Central Coast area, told KSBW: "I’m a big proponent of public art in spaces. It engages people in ways that reaching out and having conversations doesn’t sometimes."

And Panni added that since the Seaside boat mural has gone viral, other boat owners have approached him to see whether he can do the same for them.

Man responds to city ordinance with boat mural on his fence in Monterey County

A Monterey County man who was told to get his boat out of public view did as the city asked, but then he had an artistic epiphany. 

In response to an ordinance in the city of Seaside, Etienne Constable built a fence and had his neighbor paint a photo-realistic version of the boat on the fence. Pictures of the mural have since gone viral online. 

Constable told KSBW that he received a letter from the city in 2023 instructing him to build a six-foot fence to conceal his boat from public view. Adhering to the directive, Constable collaborated creatively with his neighbor, an artist, to construct a fence featuring a lifelike boat mural.

The owner and the artist who made the painting happen were profoundly surprised at how big of a reaction the painting received. 

"The reaction is extremely more than we expected, and we were just tickled about it. It's pretty cool," Constable said.

Artist Hanif Panni, known for his murals around the central coast, strongly advocates for art in public spaces and loves creating such works. Since the painting became a viral sensation, other homeowners who have received similar letters from the city have reached out to Panni to create murals at their homes.

"I love creating public art in spaces, Panni told KSBW. "I think it engages people in ways that reaching out and having conversations doesn't sometimes. Or if you are not there, it just kind of inspires conversation."
