This 218ft ketch is the biggest yacht Baltic have launched to date and in many ways she remains in a class of her own.
Despite her classic looks with a plumb stem and sweeping counter, she is a thoroughly modern high performance yacht taking full advantage of Baltic’s carbon composite building and engineering expertise.
Apart from her powerful sailplan, Hetairos sports not only a lifting keel, but also an unusual lifting rudder enabling her to fulfill her potential while sailing and access shallower anchorages and harbours when at rest.
She has proved to be a force to be reckoned with on the race course, but is just a capable as a world girdling cruising yacht capable of independent sailing for long periods of time.
Hetairos was one of the most challenging projects undertaken by Baltic Yachts and she remains one of the most outstanding sailing superyachts in the world.
Hetairos was delivered in 2011.

Superyacht Challenge Antigua : "Hetairos" crew in record-breaking mood: A giant in her element

Otto Happel's "Hetairos" has started the Superyacht Challenge Antigua with a new round Antigua record. The 40-strong crew used the start of the racing series in the Caribbean for an impressive performance. The 218-foot Dykstra/Reichel-Pugh ketch, built by Baltic Yachts in 2011, completed the almost 50 nautical mile course in just 3 hours, 46 minutes and 8 seconds. This was not only enough to win the "Line Honours", but also the overall ORCsi victory. In the handicap classification, the performance resulted in a narrow five-minute lead over the 121-foot-long Dykstra slup "Action". The "Hetairos" team led by skipper Graham Newton and tactician Cameron Appleton improved on the previous record set in 2018 by the Volvo 70 "Warrior" by 9 minutes and 30 seconds in the race around the Caribbean island surrounded by coral reefs. The 180-foot Dykstra ketch "Kamaxitha" sailed to the podium in third place in the ORC.
"It's a very special boat"
"The conditions were a little more moderate than we thought," said "Heitairos" tactician Cameron Appleton after returning to the superyacht dock in Antigua. "The boats ahead of us had a few knots more wind at the start. We had up to 18, 19 knots on the clock. We sailed quite conservatively for most of the race, partly because we wanted to conserve our equipment for the series. The plan was to carry out the manoeuvres cleanly and well. The 'Hetairos' team did an excellent job and the boss was great at the helm. The boat is quite a machine. As long as you treat her well and plan ahead, go into the manoeuvres with a good philosophy, everything goes according to plan. It's a challenge because the loads are big and you have to think a lot. You have to be ahead of the game at all times. A boat like 'Hetairos' deserves immense respect - it's a very special boat."
According to the motto "length runs", the "Hetairos" team was able to keep the almost 100-foot smaller slup "Action" with double Olympic champion Shirley Robertson and Volvo Ocean Race winner Ian Walker on board at bay. Walker was nevertheless satisfied with his team's performance and said shortly after the start of the eleventh Superyacht Challenge Antigua: "There have been a few crew changes on 'Action' since our last start here two years ago. Today was a good opportunity to test everything and check the boat thoroughly. It was a bit rough up above the island, where we had gusts of up to 23 knots. So it was good that everything stayed together. We sailed really cleanly and the boat ran well. Sailing a cruising superyacht in regatta mode means action. So we have to minimise the manoeuvres, which means you have to compromise on the ideal strategy. We had a really nice day of racing and the owner was steering 95 per cent of the time - a fantastic start for all of us and the boat." German-owned luxury yacht sets sail for Nunavut
Another fine craft to ply the Northwest Passage this summer

When the Government of Nunavut got serious this past June about regulating marine tourism within the territory, officials were probably thinking about water craft such as the Hetairos .
A world class sailing yacht, nearly 67 metres long, the Hetairos — which means comrade or companion in Greek mythology — plans to ply the Northwest Passage this month with eight to 12 guests on board and a dozen crew members.
According to documents filed with the Nunavut Impact Review Board, the yacht, which has won international sailing competitions, will sail from Greenland to Alaska some time in August and September, depending on weather and ice conditions.

A Summary of Sailing Yacht HETAIROS
The generous superyacht HETAIROS is a sailing yacht. This 43 m (141 foot) luxury yacht was developed at Abeking & Rasmussen Yachts (Schiffs-Und Yachtwerft ) in 1993. New Build & Designing of Luxury Yacht HETAIROS
The yacht's wider design collaboration came from Bruce King. The technical naval architecture plans are the work of Bruce King. Sailing Yacht HETAIROS received her stylish interior designing from the interior design skills of Andrew Winch. In 1993 she was actually launched with triumph in Lemwerder and following sea trials and detailing was then handed over to the owner. Abeking & Rasmussen Yachts (Schiffs-Und Yachtwerft ) completed their new build sailing yacht in Germany. The core hull was crafted from wooden (west). The sailing yacht main superstructure is made extensively from mahoganyandteak. The total length of the luxury yacht on deck is 38.28 (125.6 ft). With a beam of 8.48 m / 27.7 ft HETAIROS has fairly large internal space. A fairly 8.72 (28.6 ft) draught of 8.72m (28.6ft) determines the amount of harbours she can visit, contingent on their individual characteristics.

HETAIROS makes use of a sole agile MTU main engine(s) and can find a reasonable top speed underway of 12 knots. The main engine of the HETAIROS generates 605 horse power (or 445 kilowatts). Her total HP is 605 HP and her total Kilowatts are 445. She is driven by a single screw propeller.

Built by Abeking & Rasmussen in 1993 to a design by Bruce King with an interior by Andrew Winch, she's a classic wooden ketch of the highest pedigree, designed and built for world cruises and superyacht racing. Still owned by the sailing enthusiast who commissioned her build, she has been cruising to the four corners of the world, including the Amazon, Alaska, New Zealand, Madagascar, Greenland, Spitsbergen and the South Pacific. The extremely shallow draft of 3.2 m allows great flexibility for cruising, while with the centreboard down the yacht has tremendous sailing performance.
Hetairos is also well known and respected on the regatta courses around the world, where she has won numerous titles, including the Spirit of Tradition Class of the Rolex Maxi Worlds. Accommodating 10 guests in a full beam master suite plus two double and two twin cabins, Hetairos is asking €13.8 million.
