VQ Yachts, otherwise known as Vanquish Yachts, came to be in 2012 when a Dutch man with a vision, Tom Steentjes, took his passion for the latest in technology and gave birth to a brand that would not only show the world something very new, but excite the most discerning of yachtsmen. Tom was a master welder and, in just the young age of his late teens, already had a very successful company that manufactured custom equipment for the fast food world. And by the time he turned just 30, he was ready to sell the company!

In 2013, he decided to merge his knowledge of efficient techniques with the love of breaking the mold with the latest in innovations and toped it off with his extraordinary skills in aluminum and out came the very first Vanquish Yacht - the VQ32… Combining a rich understanding of process efficiency with a desire to push the window of innovation and exceptional skills in aluminum, the first VQ32 was launched to popular acclaim in 2013. He kept up with this creative streak and, with the help of his customers who also had the bug for a one-of-a-kind ‘water baby’ designed various other models —all unique in their own way.

The features are, indeed, special —especially their high-performance engines and luxurious accommodations that fit in perfectly to suit a high-speed yacht as this. With a well-tested hull that’s been adapted in length to suit every client’s requests, VQ Yachts is proud of their ability to customize each model by changing up the aluminum to end up with a new design each time that can suit the wishes of every owner.

Vanquish did it’s research and came to the conclusion that building boats their way - customized - one-by-one —was the most efficient for your pocketbook time and time again. They came to see that production boats made from a mould required a hefty investment and a large marketing budget based on the volume produced of each model. So in reality a series boat is more costly than a customized vessel.

VQ Yachts couldn’t do it all alone so they brought on some of the best craftsmen and engineers to do what they do best to help each budding idea come to fruition. They decided not to stop there but reached out to receive the best expert help from the naval architects, the greatest designers, along with specialist equipment manufacturers.

Who better than the talented automobile designer - boat aficionado, Guido de Groot to be brought into the family of Vanquish. Since, Guido and his clan of designers had a stellar reputation sketching super yachts for the finest builds in the world (i.e. Feadship). The VQ48 was pleased to have received Guido’s special touch!

The VQ115 Veloce, a 35-meter motoryacht, stands out with its impressive speed capability of 50 miles per hour. This tri-deck powerboat is equipped with three MTU-Rolls-Royce 2600s engines, supported by surface drives, providing the desired power output. Designed by Studio Delta and Petestep, the narrow hull maximizes comfort, performance, and efficiency at high speeds. The flybridge seamlessly blends into the yacht’s distinctive profile, characterized by clean lines and the unmistakable Vanquish aesthetic, as crafted by Guido de Groot. This fusion of a racing boat and luxury yacht also ensures comfort at any speed with the inclusion of twin Seakeeper stabilizers. The VQ115 Veloce offers abundant outdoor entertainment options, including a spacious foredeck, a large aft deck, and a sunbathing area on the flybridge. For convenience, the yacht features a tender bay accommodating a VQ16, raised by a hydraulic loading platform, and a second garage on the starboard side housing a VQ11, along with a live bait tank, paddleboards, sea bobs, and other water toys. ABOUT THE VQ40

The Vanquish VQ40 is a 40-foot performance motorboat that launched by the iconic Dutch yacht-building firm Vanquish Yachts in 2020. Bridging the gap between the brand’s full-size motoryachts and the firm’s smaller dayboats or tenders, the VQ40 very much delivers the best of both worlds, offering style and speed across a compact lay-out that emphasizes fun and agility. Designed by industry legend Guido de Groot with a composite hull crafted by naval architects Bakewell-White, this super-sleek vessel boasts Vanquish’s signature futuristic and sculptural style and contemporary lounge spaces dripping with comfort. No surprise then that this model broke sales records for the firm, with dozens of orders received before the first hull had even debuted.

Seating for up to fourteen guests across a teak-lined main-deck with a modern, European flair can be clad in your choice of weatherproof leather or custom upholstery, perhaps to match the metallic livery of the boat’s exterior that will be painted on by architecture firm Osiris Hertman. One of the yacht’s most novel features is a full-beam rear sunpad for up to four guests with backrests throughout and adjustable armrests for two. This sunpad offers striking views out across the stern, with a swimming platform to the rear an optional extra. Connecting to the sunpad is a rear sofa, again with full-beam dimensions, which faces a bulky wet-bar station with a grill, chilled storage, Corian work surfaces, a retractable hood and optional extras like an ice-chipper. At the front of the boat there is a compact bow lounge comprised of a triangular cocktail table with cup-holders and a V-shaped sofa where you can idle away for hours in the company of a good book or good friends.

Across the center of the boat there is a floating hard-top with transparent glazing, and this sits over a trio of comfortable piloting seats as well as the port-side helm station. The dashboard here boasts joystick handling, a Raymarine multi-function touch screen and a bespoke steering wheel, not to mention home entertainment controls that link to integral speakers positioned throughout the yacht. Though this is a vessel marketed as a day-boat there is a storage space on the lower-deck hidden behind a hatch that can be configured as a double-bed restroom, while the boat’s main head with an open shower fixture is also available on this level.

There are a number of different engine options available to power this yacht, with a trio of Mercury Verado 350hp outboards coming as standard. While these engines will deliver 50 knot top speeds, you can ultimately boost your outboard power to 450hp in order to smash through the 60-knot barrier. If you prefer utilizing space to the stern as a full-beam swimming platform then you can instead install a set of two Volvo Penta D6 DPI engines for slightly lower top speeds of approximately 46 knots, but with added leisure space to transom.

'With a heavy heart': Iconic waterfront Fort Myers Beach bar and restaurant for sale

Bonita Bill’s has been a beloved Fort Myers Beach stop for locals and visitors for 30-plus years with a laid-back vibe, waterfront views, good food, and cold beer.

And now it’s for sale .

The San Carlos Island gem’s social media pages announced the news Wednesday, June 12.

“It is with a heavy heart we share the decision made by the Semmer family to sell the Bonita Bill's properties and business,” the posts read. “This decision comes from all of Bill Semmer’s children in the resolution of his estate.”

Spot originally was a fish house in 1926

Bill Semmer bought the Bonita Fish Company and Fish House in 1991 (which was originally a fish house in 1926) and rebranded it as Bonita Bill’s Waterfront Cafe and Tiki Bar. The beloved community figure, who also owned Semmer Electric, died Jan. 20, 2023.

He is survived by his children Nikki Semmer, Katie Semmer-Reynolds and Billy Semmer.

“We thank everyone who continued to support us as we worked to rebuild after Ian, through the loss of our father Bill Semmer, the uphill battle of costly repairs and construction, rising operating, labor, and food costs, and a changing market,” the post continued.

With a “No shirt? No shoes? Can we get you a beer?” motto, Bonita Bill’s gained even more recognition when it reopened six months after Hurricane Ian with a Bertram yacht perched on a dock next to its open-air dining room.  Nearly two years later, it’s still there.

"We posted on social media a message of remembrance to (the one year anniversary of Ian) and we invited anyone to come sign the boat to leave their own mark on it as it’s left its mark on Bonita Bill's," Semmer-Reynolds said at the time. "People will sign their name or messages or hope or remembrance or even just something silly. It’s a way for both locals and visitors to leave their mark."

The future of that yacht and Bonita Bill’s are still up in the air.

“We will continue to remain open and operate as usual until the property is sold sometime in the future,” the post states. “Real estate Inquiries can be directed to SVN Commercial Partners at 239-851-5492.”
