WHAT WE SAY

The Oyster 100 by Dubois is designed with the specification, features and classification of very much larger yachts  - and provides a sophisticated entry into superyacht ownership.  By contrast, other 100-foot alternatives are simply longer versions of their 60 – 70 foot counterparts. They are built in the same way, are usually of a light displacement and structure, and can give a ride to match – lively with poor load carrying capabilities and little internal volume. Compare their displacement figures with the Oyster 100, which offers significantly more internal volume, comfort and stability. Comparing the worked materials used in construction reveals a second revealing statistic. Worked materials are loosely defined as structural items that are in some way crafted by specialists such as the hull and deck, interior joinery, engine, generators, indeed, anything that has to be crafted or built rather than just dead weight like the keel.   The Oyster 100 by Dubois is a small ship by comparison! The standard accommodation layout offers three staterooms aft and two crew cabins forward. The two family/guest staterooms have two large single beds, which are fitted on slide rails which can be pushed together to form a large double bed. A third fold down bed is also available. A raised saloon offers a panoramic view and leads forward and down to a more intimate lounge and separate dining area. Forward of the main living area is the crew mess, galley and two crew cabins.

The all-new Sunseeker 100 Yacht is the epitome of a luxury yacht. Powered by MTU 12V 2000 M96X as standard or MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines as an option, the 100 Yacht accommodates up to twelve guests and five crew in complete luxury, reaching speeds of up to 30 knots.

A striking Owner Stateroom forward with a private bow terrace, sunbathing hideaways, a breathtaking single-level exterior deck from flybridge to foredeck, a beautifully proportioned open-plan interior and generous ‘Beach Club’, just a few of her magnificent features. 

The revolutionary Sunseeker ‘Beach Club’ provides an exceptional area to relax at water level. The tender garage can accommodate a Williams 460 Sportjet and GTX255 jet ski, with plentiful stowage for SeaBobs, diving equipment and paddleboards. The innovative X-TEND™ system offers several seating arrangements, facing aft in its lowered position or, at the flick of a switch, forward at cockpit level.

The vast flybridge on board the 100 Yacht flows seamlessly into the foredeck with uninterrupted walk-around access on both sides. The foredeck provides a social space with two separate seating arrangements plus an oversized sunpad. The essential raised pilot house, central to this yacht’s innovative design, incorporates a glazed sliding door aft, allowing uninterrupted views forward from the flybridge.  

Its unique main deck, penthouse-style saloon and luxurious staterooms offer a new-found design direction and material selection providing elegant interiors to enchant any owner. The layering of textural elements and the mix of furnishings and fabrics feels timeless with a modern twist that exudes simplicity and sophistication. Floor-to-ceiling glazing floods the generous saloon with natural daylight, complemented by sliding doors to starboard, helping to bring the outdoors in. A stunning feature wall forward of the dining room showcases exposed and seemingly floating stair treads leading to the wheelhouse above on the port side and lower deck access to starboard. The large, fully equipped galley forward is concealed behind a feature bulkhead, and offers plentiful space and direct side deck access for crew.

The unique main deck layout includes the Owner's Stateroom forward for even greater flexibility and freedom on board. This full-beam stateroom offers a large lobby entrance, walk-in wardrobe with feature shelving, an office and generous en suite. Bathed in natural light courtesy of expansive panoramic glazing, owners can access a first-in-class bow terrace for ultimate privacy through a cleverly sculptured, fully-glazed sliding door forward.

The yacht can be specified as a four or five cabin boat, ideal for the charter market. In either case, the twin amidship cabins can be fitted with Pullman berths for added flexibility. The crew cabin is also worthy of mention, featuring a Captain’s cabin with en suite, two twins each with en suite, a highly specified crew mess.

Nautor´s know-how and experience in building both racing and cruising yachts have been incorporated into the Swan 100 to create a sailing yacht with full carbon fibre construction and lines that speak of performance.

The Swan 100’s hull lines, designed by Germán Frers, are an evolution on previous Swan Maxis. The bow is straight with a low bowsprit for easy sail handling and safe anchoring and the low coach roof is set behind the mast for a balanced yet aggressive look with a long, clean foredeck area. The opening transom forms a combined beach club and toys storage area that is a focus point of on board lifestyle.

Exterior Designer

Micheletti+partners.

Lucio Micheletti and his studio Micheletti + Partners have created a light, easy to use and safe deck setup that features a large and well-protected guest cockpit and a harmonious combination of wooden decking and white hull areas balanced by glazed surfaces to let light into the interior.

The interior designer

Interiors show how Swan updates and tailors its offerings to every new hull model. While several layouts are in development, the first Swan 100 will have a full beam en suite owners cabin fore, two further guest cabins and a VIP cabin with its own entrance just off the light-filled companionway.

A galley adjacent to the saloon is designed for owners who enjoy cooking and a lobby space off the galley can also be used for batteries in case a hybrid propulsion system is chosen. Crew quarters aft are spacious so that crew can live comfortably on board for the duration of an entire charter season.

Timeless Classic

The yacht is fitted with natural materials such as linen, cotton and leather in shades of white, naturally light colours, natural brown and putty tones for leather. These blend with light durmast wood, giving the yacht a sophisticated feel and bringing warm, sunny countries to mind.

TraditionalNavy

Linens and cottons in navy blue and shaded white blend with various shades of tobacco in fabric and leather. There is also the traditional wood used for sailing, namely natural teak, taking those on board back to the long-established seafaring concept of historical sailing clubs.

Natural fabrics such as linen and cotton are featured in different shades of wine, Cowes red and the fundamental shaded white. There is also “drunken” leather and Canaletto walnut, bringing to mind the Admiral’s Cup and Fastnet Race triumphs of sports sailing.

Spirit of Finland

A typical modern Swan interior featuring an under-stated Nordic approach with use of hand-crafted timbers and seaworthy detailing. Light European oak and walnut floorboards are paired with carefully selected performance fabrics in light natural colours and earthy leather accents for a soft touch. A timeless, light yacht interior from the land of the midnight sun.

Introduction

Experience the thrill and excitement of sailing one of the Westcoast's mega yachts. There are multiple cabins and space to sleep sixteen guests. The galley is quite extensive. It includes a microwave, trash compactor, full oven, garbage disposal, a full size refrigerator and a separate freezer for extended cruises, as well as, (most important), the coffee maker.

Most onboard systems are computerized, as well as the state of the art navigation systems. For listening and viewing pleasure, a Bose Surround-Sound entertainment center. 

• Fabricated from 1/8 inch thick cedar laminates.
• Each layer epoxy glued 90 degrees to each other and wrapped around to include the deck, in essence creating a structure that is a continuous and seamless sheet of plywood.
• Strategic high load areas near the mast bulkhead and the keel are reinforced with kevlar fiber between the laminates.
• There are 10 layers of veneer besides the 5/16 inch thick tongue and groove mold that is visible throughout the interior, including the extreme bow and stern.
• The interior mold is epoxy saturated and Linear Polyurethane varnished throughout the ship.
• All bulkheads are foam filled, plywood sided and finished with varnished epoxy coated tongue and groove cedar veneer.
• The keel was fabricated in form of a steel jacket fastened over a welded internal structure that is 11-feet tall. The bottom of it was hot poured with 30,000 pounds of lead, and the upper portion of the keel foil serves as a fuel tank holding 200 gal. of diesel. 
• The cabin sole is constructed from scarfed and laminated oak beams. Individual panels of 1/2” inch plywood fit in between and are easily removed for instant access to all locations in the bilge.
• The foot of the mast terminates in the forward shower. Any rain or green water that penetrates the structure through the halyard or sheave slots of the extrusion is being expelled through the shower sump.
• Galley is flanked by a horizontal freezer.
• Besides assuring fresh food, it is strategically located to keep the chef in the cooking area, when rough seas or heeling could command otherwise.
• The upright fridge and freezer is made by GE.

Accommodations

• Below decks are 17 beds... ½ of them are wide enough to sleep 2 people.
• In addition, there is an owner’s cabin with a large hanging locker, oversize queen bed, bathroom, shower, lots of storage, TV, CD player and surround sound.
• There are 2 additional bathrooms and a large shower
• Lots of storage space throughout the vessel.

Engines and Plumbing

• Potable water is stored in 4 separate tanks, located under port and starboard bunks.
• "Village Marine Tech" water maker 
• Hot Water Heater
• A 250 HP Turbo charged Cummings Diesel Engine with a Borg Warner Transmission provides propulsion under power.
• The transmission’s output shaft connects to a Morse chain drive unit that terminates 3 ft below into the keel. From that point, a 2" shaft drives a Martec folding propeller.
• The shaft is short and roller bearing supported on each end for vibration-free operation.
• The bearings and chain are lubricated via an oil sump, in the keel and don’t require any maintenance.
• Without any sails, just powered by the engine, the yacht cruises 10 kts at 2300 rpm using 7 gal. of fuel per hour, or 5 gal. per hour at 8 kts.
• Sailing down-wind without any help from the engine,  "Christine"  has sailed faster than 26kts.
• There are 4 additional fuel tanks located beneath the bunks for a total of 700 gal. fuel capacity.
• 3 separate banks of deep cycle batteries.
• One battery bank provides the engine and generator starting power
• Second furnishes isolated power supply for the computer and instruments.
• Third bank services the remaining components and fixtures for the vessel.
• A 5000 watt Northern Lights diesel generator services the 110 volt needs 
• E Marine Offshore Electronics Package that is hardwired to a Swiss GPS computer, as well as to the
• Vessels computer is used for the electronic chart system. The computer is high speed Dell unit with a 17" flat NEC high resolution monitor.  
• All electronics “talk” to each other via NMEA 0183.

CL Yachts Unveils 100-foot CLX99 Flagship Design

CL Yachts has unveiled its CLX99, a new flagship superyacht in the CLX range of luxury vessels.

According to a news release from CL Yachts, the CLX99 is a successor to the CLX96 , which debuted during Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) in late October 2022. The CLX96 featured bold styling and design inspiration from outside the traditional yacht sector. That’s how CL Yachts partnered with designer Jozeph Forakis. Forakis would later make headlines in 2023 for unveiling the design of a 3D-printed yacht .

Now CL Yachts is partnering again with Forakis to create the new CLX99. The release notes that at first glance, the new CLX99 draws heavily on its sister vessel’s styling and design DNA. That said, the yacht builder stresses the new yacht isn’t just a facelift to the CLX96, but an entirely new model at superyacht scale.

That means more interior volume, more external space, more design elements and more features that have been refined for the demands of European and Asian markets.

“The hull is the same great hull as CLX96,” said CL Yachts Director Martin Lo in the release. “With its excellent design ensuring performance, stability, handling, and sea-worthiness, the beach area has been extended and the new yacht reaches an overall length of 100 feet. Indeed, there are substantial differences in terms of naval architecture, layout, and choice of materials and finishes.”

Lo continued to state that the desire to create this new model stems from an analysis of market and owner needs, combined with the aim of having a CLX version that can satisfy all markets. He reiterated that focus markets for the CLX99 include Asia and Europe, as well as the secondary charter market.

“With CLX96 I was given free rein to think beyond the boundaries of conventional yacht design, and I was able to meld my passions for intelligent design, sailing, with the imagination and dreams of an ‘outsider,” Forakis said in the release. “ CLX99 takes all those elements, and the double-reverse-angle workboat chic of CLX96, and carries them forward into new -dimensions of style, function and practicality to meet the varied demands of differing global yachting markets. CLX99 is beautifully balanced, wonderfully proportioned and architecturally refined. She is a true ‘navetta’ epitomizing the pinnacle of nautical luxury, promising an unparalleled experience to owners, guests, and charterers alike, no matter how or where they indulge their yachting lifestyle.”

Designing the CLX99

The CLX99’s main deck benefits from a six-and-a-half-foot extension, which has led to a reorganization of the interior space aboard the vessel. Forakis states in the release that the CLX99 features a large dining room forward with the galley adjacent and with portside access for the crew. It also sports a relaxation area with a big sofa and plenty of multifunctional space for diverse needs and further customization.

Meanwhile, the lower deck has also been revised and redesigned. The standard version of the CLX99 has five sizable, en suite staterooms that include a full-beam master suite, two VIP doubles forward and two guest twin/double staterooms.

The crew area is located aft between the engine room and the aft bulkhead of the master, which allows for insulation from technical noise from the owner. This space has been extended and reconfigured to accommodate up to five crew members, making the CLX99 more suitable for fully crewed charter operations. Including crew, the vessel accommodates a total of 12 guests.

Topside, the sundeck, skylounge and flybridge helm have all been modified to optimize the size and emphasize luxury. The release notes that the CLX99 retains the trademark “Terrazza Portoghese” social zone of the CLX96, which creates an expansive seating and sunning area forward of the bridge that serves as a secondary, elevated bow terrace.

Forakis highlights the vessel’s forward-raked windscreen in the release.

“The skylounge has been extended by over three metres, with the helm – which is on the same level as the skylounge – separated from the guest saloon allowing the captain to work freely without interfering with the guests,” Forakis said in the release. “However, the skylounge forward bulkhead is essentially largely glass, which not only means  CLX99 retains the 360-degree panoramic views, but also means guests can still observe the operation of the yacht. A sliding door connects the two spaces.”

Elisa Corti, a media spokesperson for CL Yachts, told Yachting that the company is promoting this model through dealers and brokers. While there isn’t a set timeline for release yet, Corti said fingers are crossed that CL Yachts will start production on the CLX99 soon.

CL says the CLX99 was refined to meet the demands of the European and Asian markets and the charter industry, with the vessel combining the cruising capabilities and workboat stylings of the CLX96 with the comfort of a 100-footer.

The main deck is roughly seven feet longer than the previous model’s, allowing for a more generous layout. The revised lower deck features five generous staterooms, including a full-beam owner’s suite, two forward VIPs, and two double cabins. Clients can replace the main deck dining area and observation lounge with an owner’s suite to create six staterooms for up to 14 guests. The crew quarters are also located on the lower deck and offer space for up to five crew.

The sundeck, skylounge, and flybridge helm have all been expanded, creating more alfresco space for guests. The aft swim platform also gained new drop-down bulwarks, which can create more waterside real estate as needed. The new model retained the trademark “Terrazza Portoghese” of the CLX96, ensuring ample space for sunning and lounging forward of the bridge. To top it off, owners can opt for a spa pool on the foredeck.

A man who quit his job as a music teacher in order to sail the Pacific Ocean solo has shared just how alone he is out at sea - and it's freaking viewers out.

TikToker Luke aka SV Songbird ( @sailing_songbird ) has been providing video updates on his travels as he experience life at sea on a 27-foot sailboat.

After reaching his month milestone sailing on the Pacific, Luke posted a video where he shared his location on Google Maps to show the remoteness of where he is.

In the video, the creator was out filming from his paddleboard to get some "exercise" where he told viewers: "“I’m stuck here in the doldrums, there is no wind.”

"For reference I'm about as far away from land as you can be on this planet," he said and pinpointed his location where he believes to be "well over 1,000 miles away from any piece of land".

He described how it feels "incredibly disorientating to be out on a paddleboard with nothing on the horizon except a supercool sunset."

Since posting the video, it has received more than 32m views, as people in the comments shared their thoughts on Luke's solo adventure.

One person joked: "Man's uploading from the pacific ocean and I'm losing network in my bathroom."

Another person similarly jested: "Bro who is your phone service provider?"

"The best thing about sailing across the Pacific ocean alone is that you do not have to do it," a third person said.

A fourth person added: "My thalassophobia would never," referring to fear of deep bodies water such as an ocean or a lake.

"Bro get back on your boat you're stressing me out," someone else commented.
