Review of Controversy 30
The Controversy 30 is equipped with a fin keel. A boat with a fin keel is more manoeuvrable but has less directional stability than a similar boat with a long keel. The boat can enter most marinas as the draft is just about 1.60 - 1.70 meter (5.25 - 5.55 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

37' Controversy 36 Yawl (1959)
This has made a number of the friends of this design say that you've got to love a yard which sells a 37'3" boat as a 36 footer! "Her light displacement reduces the need for a large engine, large sail plan or heavy equipment. One of these vessels, with a modified deck plan, made a circumnavigation and it's believed that a second boat ...

Freedom 30
The Freedom 30's interior gets high marks. Wood is used judiciously. The ash ceiling strips lighten the cabins nicely. The aft double is not palatial, but it's serviceable, private, and surprisingly well-ventilated. One sailor complained that the saloon double is big enough for "only one and a half small people.".
Convince me why a Catalina 30 is the wrong boat for me
The Catalina 30 appeals best to me because it is a manageable size but also absurdly spacious inside. Lots of deck room because of how wide a boat it is, large cockpit, and Catalina boats are known for being good "compromise" boats. I never plan to race.

Newport 30 Anyone?
Southern California. Mar 14, 2014. #4. When I was a kid, my dad had a Newport 30. Basic boat, built like a brick shit house, sailed just fine. Not a race boat, but for a day sailor or a nice weekender for my dad, me, and my brother, it did just fine. Had an Atomic 4 that was eventually rebuilt, but for boats of that era, the Atomic 4 was standard.

Catalina 30', How seaworthy? : r/sailing
Weather to me constitutes wind +30 knots and seas +10 feet, and while a Catalina will still survive weather it would be much more comfortable to face seas in a different boat. None of this real matters in cruising the Gulf because you should be at most 3-5 days between ports, so you can plan passages to avoid weather.

But my favorite 30(ish) foot boat is the Hallberg Rassy Monsun 31. The sailing layout of the Monsun is damn near perfect for single handing and it's a rock solid boat with gorgeous lines and simple but exquisite interior. Usually no teak deck, and the deck core is PVC not balsa. Good luck finding one in the US though.
