Inauguration of the new YCM building

At 43°44’15’’ N and 7°25’40’’ E, this hi-tech building which looks like a liner docked on Quai Louis II is home to two of the Principality’s historic clubs: the Société Nautique (rowing club) and the Yacht Club, a meeting point for owners and focus of international yachting activities. Alongside Lord Foster and Monegasque architect Alexandre Giraldi, Jacques Grange and Nelson Wilmotte have put their talents to the service of the new building’s interior and exterior layout and design.

“ Allow me to express a very sincere wish that the Yacht Club de Monaco fulfil its mission as a link between people who love the sea, that it serves the interests ”

— Prince Rainier III

To be a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco is above all a commitment. It is a desire to preserve a certain ethic, both on land and on the water, and to foster a respect for naval etiquette and preservation of the environment. The Yacht Club de Monaco’s philosophy is based on the need to perpetuate but also to pass on a heritage, inherited from our ancestors, to ensure that the Yacht Club remains a lively and progressive place.

Debuts and anniversaries for My Yacht Group

monaco yacht group

While My Yacht Group is primed to ride the swelling wave of F1 popularity across the Atlantic, the Principality-based company will celebrate 15 years at the Monaco GP. Co-founder Nicholas Frankl shares with us his plans for the busy 2022 racing calendar.

Glamour and motorsport tend to go hand-in-hand, especially Formula 1. Accustomed to playing a nexus role and uniting these elements in Monaco each year, My Yacht Group is setting its lofty gaze further afield this year as they prepare for the first Miami Grand Prix.

As Co-Founder Nicholas Frankl told Monaco Life, “You want to be on a superyacht, that’s the special magic of the harbour of Monte-Carlo.” Now, they’re taking that “magic” to Florida as the sporting world, as well as the yachting and hospitality communities, prepare for the latest addition to an ever-expanding F1 calendar.

The race, which takes place on 8th May, will do so in one of the least glamorous settings – a car park. This led then Race Director Michael Masi to say in November that “it’s far from a race in a car park,” and that it will be “something unique.”

The original plan for the Miami circuit was for it to run around Biscayne Boulevard and downtown Miami. That plan was ultimately foiled, but is one that, according to automotive writer Frankl, might have gone through if it were proposed today. “At the time, Miami and Miami locals didn’t really know a lot about Formula 1,” he began.

“I have a suspicion that the mayor, who is pro-business and pro-Miami, and governor Ron DeSantis would have made it happen. Also, locally, I suspect that there would be a much higher level of support, because now thanks to Netflix and their documentary series ‘Drive to Survive’, it’s the biggest growth sport in America today.”

monaco yacht group

The race in Miami has been sold out for weeks. Offering a different kind of experience, and a VIP one at that, will be My Yacht Group, who are primed to ride the swelling wave of F1 popularity across the Atlantic.

Frankl, who co founded My Yacht Group with his sister Annabelle, detailed their upcoming super yacht party in the ‘Sunshine State’: “We are very well known for hosting sophisticated, fun and elegant super yacht parties, always charity related and charity themed, and so that is exactly what we’re doing on a special boat called Gene Chaser , a 55m research vessel.”

“They have labs on-board, as well testing facilities and a mobile MRI machine, so it’s very much a technical showcase. We are hosting a business networking and investor reception for a curated guest list of only 100 people, representing around $250bn of net worth,” says Frankl. “We will then turn it into a My Yacht Club, which is the pop-up nightlife experience we’ve successfully hosted at the Austin GP since 2012. It’s a combination of a charity and investor reception, then a full-on party, DJ, bottle service, VIP event… We have partnered with world-famous celebrity chef Todd English, who will be personally catering on-board for our guests.”

Frankl also revealed that they will be running an event at the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix in November 2023, a race that was announced back in March and will be the third US GP on the calendar. Frankl, however, isn’t worried about F1 saturating the American market. “I think the US can easily absorb three races,” he says.

15 years of Monte-Carlo glamour

Heading back to more familiar shores, just as they have been for the last 15 years, My Yacht Group will once again be hosting a full track side super yacht hospitality weekend and their popular Friday night party during this May’s Monaco Grand Prix.

After last year’s more muted event, which involved two private astronaut receptions, My Yacht Group returns to normality in style. In what Frankl describes as a “huge charity weekend”, guests will board the DB9 yacht, acquired in the auction at the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation gala back in September. “All the proceeds from that auction item, which is several hundred thousand euros, went to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, and we are very proud to be promoting and supporting the PA2F once again throughout the weekend,” said Frankl.

monaco yacht group

My Yacht Group has just released three on-board luxury cabins for “the ultimate experience”. Guests will be able to stay in Port Hercules during the Grand Prix weekend, trackside, as well as mingle with VIP guests.

“We will have commander Michael Lopez-Alegria, a five-time world-record holding, US hall-of-fame astronaut who has just arrived back from the International Space Station (ISS). He is commander of the first all-private mission to the ISS with Axiom Space, a company that I and several other Monaco residents invested in.”

Frankl says it would be great to help send a Monegasque to space. “We would love to take the first Monaco astronaut to the ISS. It would be incredible to see a member of the Princely family, or a Monegasque citizen, spend 10 days aboard, conducting medical and scientific research for humanity.”

monaco yacht group

Commander Lopez-Alegria will be attending both the Miami and Monaco VIP events, as well as representatives from Vita Inclinata, a manufacturer that has designed a “life-saving autonomous power system” to stabilize cradles on helicopters and cranes. The company recently delivered $500,000 worth of their equipment to Ukraine, and trained Ukrainian medevac crews how to use it during the ongoing war. They will exhibit their technology on the superyacht crane in Monaco over the GP weekend. “That’s the first time it will be demonstrated in this way,” revealed Frankl.

MONACO YACHT SHOW 2023

The Superyacht Group at MYS 2023

The superyacht group will be on the ground at the monaco yacht show, seeking out the unique voices that will drive the industry forward….

monaco yacht group

The Superyacht Group is honoured to once again be the official media partner of The Monaco Yacht Show in 2023, the superyacht industry's premier showcase. We are also returning with an energetic and dynamic team from across our Editorial, Intelligence , Commercial, and Events divisions.

"After 31 years of The Superyacht Group, and with our highly valued partnership with The Monaco Yacht Show running almost as long, we're excited to return. Just like the MYS is much more than a yacht show, The Superyacht Group has evolved into much more than just a media company," affirms Martin Redmayne, TSG Chairman and Editor-in-Chief. "The market has never been as fascinating as it is at this moment."

monaco yacht group

We will be on-site with our filming partners throughout the show and will be seeking unique and impactful commentary from all sectors of our diverse industry. The Monaco Yacht Show is undoubtedly about the biggest and best yachts on the water, but at The Superyacht Group, we are equally interested in the new faces, destinations, and innovative technologies that will shape the next-generation fleet.

We're curating our content to flow across our social media channels under the themes guiding TSF: Connect 2023 - Owner, Ocean, and Open . This is a chance to reconnect with our industry friends as much as it is to give a voice to potentially impactful innovators who may go unnoticed. Keep an eye out for our team, dressed in Superyacht Group Red this year!

monaco yacht group

If you have a technology or insight to share, please get in touch , and we can schedule a visit to your stand or yacht. Alternatively, one of our team members may approach you for your candid take on a specific topic on the fly. We anticipate that the most impactful long-term interactions may not occur onboard the biggest yacht on display, but rather with a new startup or first-time exhibitor. We don't have a stand this year, and we want the freedom to capture the moments that matter.

As a founding board member of the Water Revolution Foundation , Martin Redmayne, our Chairman, has expressed his full commitment to working towards a greener superyacht industry. While many magazines are either discarded or left behind during each show, we are making our industry-leading flagship publication - The Superyacht Owner Report – available completely free to all exhibitors, visitors, partners, captains, and anyone interested in yacht ownership, as a digital-only product.

We're confident that we have one of the strongest and smartest teams capable of building a strategy for the future of our industry. We look forward to seeing you at The Show again this year and at TSF: Connect in Amsterdam this November.

MY EXPERIENCE AT THE MONACO YACHT SHOW

MSc in Sustainability and Innovation Management

Magnus A. Frohmann, Danish, and Alain de Ruiter, Dutch, both students in the MSc in Sustainability and Innovation Management program, attended the Monaco Yacht Show a few weeks ago.

The Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) was not just an event; it was a voyage into the future of luxury yachting, and my attendance at MYS2023 was a journey that left an indelible mark on my perception of this industry that I previously knew relatively little about.

Sustainability and Cutting-edge Innovation

With its unwavering commitment to sustainability and cutting-edge innovation, MYS2023 has redefined the very essence of luxury in the yachting world .

One of the highlights of MYS2023 was the return and maturation of the Sustainability Hub—an exhibition area dedicated to showcasing companies specializing in sustainable technologies aimed at reducing the environmental impact of super-yachts . Located in the expansive main exhibition space, this hub served as an incubator for groundbreaking and eco-friendly solutions, one of which was an IUM startup!

Sustainability Hub

This year, the Sustainability Hub continued to bridge the gap between established companies offering tried-and-true sustainable alternatives and budding start-ups with their forward-thinking ideas . The selection process for participants was carried out in collaboration with the Water Revolution Foundation , ensuring that only those with genuine and viable sustainable solutions graced the exhibition floor.

As I explored the Sustainability Hub, I couldn’t help but admire the collective dedication to a greener, more responsible future for the yachting industry.

Gaëlle Tallarida , Managing Director of the MYS, aptly emphasized the show’s commitment to sustainability, underlining how the Monaco Yacht Show has been a trailblazer in raising environmental awareness since its pioneering move to join the Carbon Neutral program in 2005 . I had the pleasure of talking to her after one of the many sustainability panel discussions that were a part of the show. The Sustainability Hub, now in its second year, stands as a testament to the show’s relentless pursuit of eco-friendly alternatives.

monaco yacht group

The Monaco Yacht Show’s partnership with Siemens Energy was, as the sponsor of the Sustainability Hub, an exciting development. This collaboration offered a unique opportunity for all stakeholders to engage with Siemens Energy and delve into the integration of sustainable energy sources and clean fuels into an exclusive Energy Management and Propulsion System designed for electric and hybrid yachts. It’s an initiative aimed at not just reducing but actively controlling emissions—a bold step towards a responsible and environmentally friendly approach throughout the yachting industry.

Networking Opportunities

Networking opportunities at MYS2023 were as enriching as they were abundant. Engaging with exhibitors, partners, and fellow attendees allowed me to delve deeper into the sustainability initiatives within the yachting industry . Collaborations, discussions, and shared insights with industry leaders left an indelible mark on my perspective.

I got to meet not only amazing individuals (some of whom are IUM alumni) but also learned an immense amount about the target group of the MYS and its high-end luxury clientele.

A Knowledgeable Experience

In conclusion, my experience at the Monaco Yacht Show was not just a testament to luxury but a testament to the industry’s commitment to sustainability . MYS2023 showcased advanced design, sustainability, and cutting-edge technology. It reaffirmed that in an industry as opulent as yachting, embracing sustainability is not just a choice but a collective responsibility—a responsibility that I believe will shape the future of luxury in the yachting world.

The Monaco Yacht Show is a voyage into the future, where innovation, luxury, and sustainability converge . It has left an indelible mark on my journey as a student of Sustainability and Innovation Management, reminding me that the future of luxury lies in the hands of those who are committed to treading a sustainable path.

I am immensely grateful to have been granted access to this show and see it as a huge privilege as one of two ambassadors of the MSc in Sustainability and Innovation Management, which many professionals showed immense interest in.

Millionaires Are Expected to Leave the U.K. in Droves This Year: Report

“As this year’s results show, the impact of the global pandemic has settled into a ‘new normal.’ However, inflation, rising living costs, and increased geopolitical tensions continue to impact prices and priorities globally,” the report said.

The Julius Baer Lifestyle Index ranking is based on several different factors and takes into account assets like real estate, watches, cars, handbags, and other luxury items. For example, the survey found that Hong Kong is second-most expensive city for buying property and the costliest for hiring a lawyer. Shanghai, on the other hand, dropped from third to fourth place along with multiple other Asian cities. Most notably, Tokyo , Bangkok, and Jakarta also fell in the rankings.

RELATED: Hong Kong Is the Most Expensive City for Expats

London took the third spot in a one-position leap from 2023, partly because of the post-Brexit pound. Interestingly, every other European city on the list also moved up the ranking, including Zurich, which landed in sixth. As a whole, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa went from being the most affordable region to live in last year to the most expensive this time around, due to exchange rates and the poor performance of certain currencies.

Average prices in the Americas have risen by 6 percent compared to 12 months ago, with the cost of hotel suites up 34 percent and Champagne up 27 percent. However, cities including New York and Miami have dropped in the ranking, while Mexico City leapfrogged from 16th to 21st place due to the strength of the peso. You can check out the top 10 ranking below.
