BVI is short for the British Virgin Islands, and it's regarded as one of the best sailing destinations in the world. British Virgin Islands has a tropical rainforest climate moderated by trade winds. Hurricane season is between June to November, which means the months of November to July is the peak yachting season in the islands.

British Virgin Islands yacht charter for a day

If you only have a full-day for a yacht charter, then the island of Virgin Gorda is a must-activity for a full-day yacht charter. It is home to The Baths, the most popular natural attraction in the British Virgin Islands. The Baths are characterized by large boulders that create natural pools and stunning grottos, with beautiful blue crystal waters that are perfect for swimming. You can then have lunch at the top of the Baths restaurant, where stunning views are yours to behold. Head out to Spanish Town and Leverick Bay, which have quaint local villages with many shops and restaurants, before heading back to your yacht and returning to the marina in Tortola to end your yacht charter for a day in BVI.

British Virgin Islands yacht charter overnight

A BVI overnight yacht charter allows you to moor on a bay and explore several destinations and water sports activities. You can start your overnight yacht charter at Cooper Island, which is home to the Cooper Island Beach Club's eco-resort. Anchor on a bay and enjoy swimming by the boat, snorkeling, jet-skiing, or diving, then head over to the resort where you can have your lunch or afternoon snacks. The island is close to a diving paradise called "wreck alley," where divers get to explore shipwrecks underwater.

A week-long liveaboard on the BVI blends the best of both worlds: secluded islands with no development in sight, beautiful anchorages, and laid back villages with beachside bars. Here is a sample itinerary for your week-long yacht charter itinerary in the British Virgin Islands:

Day 1: Virgin Gorda Island

A definite must in your BVI holiday, the Virgin Gorda Island is home to The Baths, but also a great island to explore on foot. Stock up on supplies at the local market, enjoy the local produce and delicacies, buy some souvenirs, and then head out to the North Sound, an excellent overnight anchorage.

Day 2 and 3: Anegada Island

This beautiful island is a charter favorite. It is sparsely populated and rural, and only 11 miles long, as well as low and flat, unique in the BVI. The BVI islands are volcanic but not Anegada, which sits on a coral reef, making it a unique spot in the region. Visit the Caribbean-style shops and restaurants, enjoy snorkeling and swimming at the beaches, and visit the salt ponds, teeming with birdlife and the famous pink Caribbean flamingos. Enjoy two days on this island, which is perfect for hours or lazing around on the beach and experiencing local culture.

Day 4: Trellis Bay

Head over to Trellis Bay with its excellent local vibe and vibrant market. If you're visiting on a full moon, the Bay is famous for its full moon beach parties.

Day 5: Jost Van Dyke

Jost Van Dyke is another famous BVI destination, famous for its rural and rugged scenery, but also for its vibrant beachside bars.

Day 6: Normal Island

The famous Indians and Caves are great for exploration. The Caves are renowned for being the inspiration behind the novel Treasure Island, written by Robert Louis Stevenson. Anchor at The Bight, which is a famous overnight anchorage. Spend breakfast over the waters, enjoy a couple of hours of water sports activities, then head back to Tortola to end your week-long liveaboard on your private yacht charter.

Most likely, yes. You'll need to confirm with your charter company. I actually think catamaran's are much easier to maneuver and handle as compared to a monohull. Read more about why I think the catamaran is the better option for your sailing trip here .

It is customary to tip 20-25% of the cost of the charter.

It's a reservation system to book mooring balls at some of the popular bays and anchorages. I break it down in more detail here . No, you don't need to use it. But, in peak season, the mooring balls at the most popular spots (Cooper Island and Great Harbour in particular) will fill up fast - sometimes before noon! Most crews would prefer to spend the day enjoying themselves rather than racing to their next destination. In that case, it might make sense for you to try and use their system. Good luck!

Once you confirm your reservation, your broker will process your payment.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

Laced like emerald drops in the glittering waters of the Caribbean , the British Virgin Islands are peppered with pristine beaches, hidden coves and picturesque anchorages. Humbling and magical these volcanic islands are rugged in character and strikingly beautiful. Often referred to as simply the BVIs, these islands offer some of the most opulent and compelling yacht charter destinations in the world. Centred in one of the most spectacular cruising areas in the Caribbean Sea, the BVIs are home to a plethora of lush isles and islets, ideal for island hopping with each island offering its own unique delights.

Roughly split into two island chains the British Virgin Islands stretch for more than 30 miles and are separated by the Sir Francis Drake Channel. Virgin Islands Entry Regulations

From covid to work permits and business licences.

With the health crisis is almost at an end , Covid regulations in the British Virgin Islands have changed. They have not disappeared, but transferred into a bureaucracy war of work permit and trade licences.

What that means is that your charter starting in USVI might not go to the BVI because the paperwork did not make it through. How can you be sure that your selected yacht has the necessary paperwork to go? That depends on your dates. Consult your preferences with us and we’ll be very direct about where your selected yacht is in terms of feasibility of a BVI charter. Note that the rules are subject to, often very unexpected, changes.

BVI charter guests on vacation are no longer required to register for entry clearance or show proof of travel insurance, regardless of their vaccination status. Also, there is no longer the need to present a COVID-19 test result upon arrival in the British Virgin Islands.

The main charter season in the BVI spans from December to March, with a peak around Christmas/New Year. Notice the interesting months of April and November, which offer reasonable deals in the British Virgin Islands.

What to pack

Anegada Anchorage

Anegada is the only inhabited British Virgin Island formed from coral and limestone. Sailing to it, you’d think you were sailing out into endless seas, but after some time, the tiny tips of the trees come into vision!

The North Sound

The North Sound, also known as the Billionaires playground. This amazing anchorage provides a calm harbor even in windy conditions. You have access to many popular stops such as Saba Rock, Bitter End, Oil Nut Bay, and Leverick Bay. The North Sound is also an amazing jump point to Anegada, which is often a unforgetable beam-reach sail.

Nestled between giant granite boulders and palms in the sandy bay of Spanish Town, is the chic restaurant, Coco Maya . Minutes from the iconic “Baths” of Virgin Gorda, the inviting lounge ambiance is perfect for relaxing at sunset. Coco Maya serves up an undeniably delectable fusion of Southeast Asian street food & Latin American cuisine with a touch of Caribbean flavor, and I couldn’t possibly be a bigger fan.

Cruz Bay is the main town on the island of St. John. This hot spot is just small enough that you won’t need a car to see it all. The National Park office is located right in town, for a deeper look into St. John’s history. Be sure to make Cruz Bay a stop along your trip for a true taste of Virgin Islands culture. The Dog Islands

The dog islands are a mecca for scuba and free divers. The uninhabited islands offer some of the best, and often overlooked live coral patches.

The Baths, Virgin Gorda

The Baths are just one of those places that make you go… “how did this get here?”. They were made by granite that eroded into piles of boulders on the beach, creating natural tidal pools, tunnels, arches, and scenic grottos that are open to the sea.

Cooper Island

Cooper is one of those charming spots you don’t want to miss when traveling around the BVI. It’s a tiny island with an incredible beachfront restaurant, its own rum bar, gourmet coffee shop, solar-powered brewery, and gift shop.

Scrub Island

Scrub Island is a great place to spend a night or two prior to your yacht charter. It also has an incredible Spa, Restaurant, and snorkeling just in the vicinity. Scrub island also allows you to purchase a “day pass” should you wish to access their amenities such as their pool and hot tubs for the day.

The Willy T, short for William Thornton, is a famous floating party bar near Norman Island in the British Virgin Islands. It’s a lively hotspot with great drinks, music, and even a shot ski. Whether sipping cocktails on deck or taking a jump into the ocean, the Willy T offers a unique slice of BVI paradise.

Wreck of the Rhone

Situated on the leeward side of Salt Island, this historic and exciting dive location is the crown jewel of scuba diving in the Virgin Islands. The bow rests shallow at 20ft and the stern at 100ft. The ship sank during a hurricane in 1867.

The Indians

With its shallow shoals & secret caverns, the Indians are home to the brightest corals and provides incredible biodiversity aka “The Fishbowl”.

Hansen Bay And Lime Out, Stj

A short tender ride from Hansen bay and has been featured in Time Magazine’s top 100 places to see, this floating taco bar serves to die for tacos and fancy cocktails while you float at their swim-up bar or lounge on one of their many “floating” Booths.

Windmill Bar, St. John

Quickly becoming the USVI’s most popular Happy Hour spot, The Windmill Bar stands high above Hawks Nest Beach, in the most breathtaking spot for catching a sunset. It offers local vibes, great drinks, and even better views!

Caneel Bay / Zozos

Day 1-2: Prickly Pear at Virgin Gorda ☀️

Upon arrival at Beef Island, you’ll board STAY SALTY and set sail for Prickly Pear Island, where a stunning white beach awaits you. Feast on an array of delicacies, from lobster to conch, and cool off with a refreshing beverage or two before relaxing on a sun lounger to soak up the rays.

For those seeking adventure, Prickly Pear Island offers a variety of water sports, hiking trails, and snorkeling opportunities. Take the Prickly Pear hiking trail from Vixen Point Beach around the salt ponds to the north shore, where you’ll find two more secluded beaches. Along the way, you’ll encounter an amazing collection of unusual cacti, including Turks Head and the island’s own Prickly Pear.

Day 3: the baths at virgin gorda 🪨.

Virgin Gorda is home to ‘The Baths’, a series of beachside boulders that form a number of warm pools and grottoes. Don’t forget your camera as the granite boulders and palm trees create a radiant backdrop and a spa-like setting. Spend the day sunbathing on the rocks, swimming in the magical cerulean water, or hitting the waves kiteboarding or surfing.

After a jam-packed day of fun in the sun, you can visit the north end, where several surrounding islands are located, including Mosquito, Prickly Pear, Saba Rock, and Necker Island, owned by Sir Richard Branson.

Day 4: peter island 🚵.

Your next destination is Peter Island, situated in the southwestern region of the British Virgin Islands. As the largest of the private islands in the cluster, Peter Island boasts almost 1,800 acres of practically untouched beauty. The owners have dedicated their efforts to preserving this tropical wonderland, offering activities that connect guests to the pristine nature of the Caribbean. Enjoy hiking and biking on trails, swimming, snorkeling, diving, and beach hopping. Explore and fall in love with several beaches: Honeymoon Beach, White Bay Beach, Big Reef Bay and Beach, and Deadman’s Beach, the largest of them all with a mile-long shoreline.

• Steamed crayfish/lobster lemon and herb compound butter sauce • Garden salad of green leaves, cucumber discs, radishes, crispy onions drizzled with farm olive oil • Heirloom tomato salad with garlicky vinaigrette

Day 5: norman island 🤿.

With a kaleidoscope of marine life to be discovered, it is no wonder that these caves inspired the classic novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Just around the corner from the world-famous Norman Island Caves is The Bright, our next anchor point. This is an impressive snorkeling spot where you can venture deep into the many natural caves and perhaps find sunken pirate treasure! Whether you grab Caribbean-themed drinks and food at Pirate’s Bright Restaurant, go underwater and see the colorful coral and marine life, or keep your head above water and admire the exotic birds, you are guaranteed to come home with plenty of stories.

• Grilled beef ribeye • White truffle risotto and buttery portobello, wilted spinach, pumpkin puffs • Red wine sauce/herb oil • Buckwheat and salted koji waffles, dulce de leche, toasted soybean custard and soft meringue

Day 6: jost van dyke 🏖️.

The pale blue ocean is the perfect indicator that you’ve made it to another paradise destination. Jost Van Dyke has a mixed packet of colorful beaches, so pick your favorite and wash it down with a local Caribbean rum. Find Foxy’s Bar, a famous watering hole that attracts sailors and islanders from all over the world, and perhaps Foxy himself will be there, playing his guitar, entertaining, and telling stories. If you had to close your eyes and imagine the perfect place to unwind in a hammock while watching the sunset, it would be Jost Van Dyke. It also has the best beaches to kick back, relax, and soak up the sun. If you get too hot, you can always take a dip in the cool, refreshing, clear water. The water surrounding the island is crystal clear, making it snorkeling heaven–an absolute must-do! Jost Van Dyke also offers some of the best local seafood, including jerk shrimp, seafood pasta, and some of the world’s best lobster.

• Mahi Mahi tar-tare (cubed tomato, cucumber, red onion and avocado) • Baby spinach leaves with shaved fennel and orange segments, fresh dill, and crispy croutons in a balsamic dressing • Gem lettuce leaves, cucumber shards, thinly sliced Red Onion, and sundried tomatoes tossed in a tomato and white wine vinaigrette • Chocolate and caramel individual cakes

Day 7: guana island 🏊.

Wake in the morning and enjoy one last swim before heading back to Beef Island for disembarkation.
