Before starting your private yacht charter to Bimini Island, The Bahamas , allow us to get you acquainted with this tiny but fascinating island. It’s divided in 3 small Islands: North, East, and South Bimini, with North and South Bimini being the largest. Also, the name is derived from these 2 Islands (Bi Mini).
The North side is only 7 miles (11km) long and 700 feet (200m) wide. You only need a golf cart to move around and enjoy the shops, restaurants, and bars.
With only 182 people living on the South side you will encounter South Bimini Airport, a few small hotels, and private homes you can rent. The island is famous for Big Game Fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling.
South Bimini is more relaxing whereas North Bimini has more activity and is recommended by us. You have options of Marinas where to dock, from Bimini Big Game Marina to Resorts World Bimini Resort and Marina.
WHAT TO SEE & DO ON BIMINI ISLANDS, BAHAMAS
SCUBA DIVING AND SNORKELING AT SS SAPONA SHIPWRECK
The SS Sapona Shipwreck was a concrete cargo vessel built by Henry Ford during WWII. In 1926 it was destroyed by a hurricane. Today it still sits on the South side of Bimini Island, 3 miles from the shore. You can reach the Sapona shipwreck by your chartered boat and enjoy snorkeling reaching 20 feet deep. The beauty of the clear ocean makes it such a splendid landmark to enjoy a variety of sea fishes and sea creatures. Feel free to take amazing pictures while jumping off the shipwreck.
For scuba diving we recommend Neal Watson Bimini Scuba Center . They are professional, patient and can accommodate divers of all levels.
Quick tips:
- not recommended for pregnant women
- have your waterproof camera or GoPro handy
- make sure you have plenty of snorkel equipment onboard
- you do not need experience to snorkel
BIG GAME FISHING
All year round in Bimini is perfect for Big Game Fishing , however there are certain seasons for specific fish like Wahoo, mackerel, white and blue marlin, tuna, grouper, snapper, and barracuda. No wonder Bimini earns the title of “ sports fishing capital of the world ”.
The best way to enjoy this trip is on a properly equipped fishing boat with a professional crew to assist you and your guests, ensuring an authentic fishing experience in Bimini.
- game fishing chart to help for certain seasonal fish
- professional fishing crew is highly recommended
- plenty of food and drinks, and sunblock
- early morning fishing is the best time
WATER ACTIVITIES
Being a small island, Bimini is surrounded by unreal turquoise waters which makes it a perfect location to relax in the sun on the pristine white beaches. Or for the more adventurous, there is also kayaking , paddle board , snorkeling , scuba diving and jet skiing . Your chartered yacht is fully equipped for water activities, but if anything is missing our crew will make sure to get it to you in no time!
GOLF CART HOP ON, HOP OFF
Bimini is so small that renting a car is neither necessary nor an option. You can make your way around North Bimini in less than 30 minutes by golf cart. There are more than 10 golf cart rental companies on the island, making it easy to rent one for the day. Do as the locals and take a short, leisurely drive to the corner store, or to eat at one of the many restaurants (pass by Bimini Big John’s Bar & Grill) , head to the beach, or try your luck at the casino. The locals are incredibly nice and welcoming, always ready to give advice for the best local food and live music. There is also a daily ferry service between North and South Bimini, though you will find more to do on the North side.

PLANNING YOUR TRIP TO BIMINI
Typical departure from Miami is early in the morning around 9am, for timely arrival in Bimini to clear customs ( passports needed ). You should be ready to pick up your golf cart at the marina by 2pm. We will make sure marina dockage and golf cart are reserved so you can enjoy and relax from the moment you arrive. Drive around the Island and pass by Joe’s Conch Shack have their famous conch salad and you may even catch them cleaning and prepping it (see picture below). Conch is the most famous seafood dish in Bimini so you may also want to try Stuarts delicious conch salad.
You can go around the island and stop by the beaches for a swim, stop by a shack and enjoy a local Kalik beer while enjoying the view of pastel colored wooden homes and breathe in the fresh ocean air. Once you finished exploring it’s time to go back to the marina, relax on your boat and get ready for dinner. You may choose a fancy dinner at Sabor restaurant inside the Hilton Resorts World Bimini or a local laid back option like Edith’s Pizza , which serves a lot more than pizza. Finish your night at the Casino at Hilton Resorts World Bimini. Or, if it’s a weekend, you may relax by the marina listening to live band music. Or, one of our weekend favorites is Big John’s Bar & Grill, which was just remodeled in April 2017
Let’s get the engine started and move the boat towards the area where dolphins like to hang around. If we’re lucky, you will be able to see some and even swim with them. We just ask that you keep in mind they are wild mammals and you should always take precautions.
We will mostly likely stop by the SSS Sapona Shipwreck by South Bimini, where you may enjoy amazing snorkeling . If your chartered yacht is equipped with a jet ski , this is the time to hop on one and take it around the shipwreck, jump in the water to snorkel and capture beautiful pictures to share back home.
On 2-night trips, we can take you to a private island called Cat Cay , located only 10 miles away from Bimini. Here visitors are permitted to moor for no more than 24 hours. Enjoy some fine cuisine at Nauticat Restaurant or Bu’s Bar for a more relaxed atmosphere.
The island is managed by Cat Cay Yacht Club and non-members may only visit accompanied by members. For a private tour for membership inquiries or more information, please visit their website.
CHOOSING A BOAT
Now let’s choose the perfect boat for you . It all depends how many guests are joining you and if you are planning to sleep on the boat or in a hotel.
We can help you choose from a medium size vessel like a 54’ Sea Ray Sundancer with 2 rooms or a 64’ Azimut with 3 staterooms. For fishing aficionados, we have a 50’ or a 60’ Hatteras fishing boat so you can enjoy Big Game Fishing.
Do you have a bigger budget in mind? We recommend a 75’ Sunseeker Manhattan which is ultra comfortable and luxurious equipped with all the amenities you may need. If you decide you rather stay overnight in a hotel than your chartered vessel, we can recommend one of our partner’s resorts.
Fishing charters are permitted for no more than 6 guests by law.

55′ Sea Ray 510 Fly
54′ Sea Ray 500 Sundancer

Things to Do & See on Your Bimini Charter
Scuba Diving
Snorkeling and diving yacht charters are popular in Bimini due to the vast array of marine life along the miles of coral reefs. Many shipwrecks in the area offer stunning underwater dive sites. The SS Sapona , for instance, was caught in a hurricane in 1926. It ran aground, leaving the top of the ship above water with the rest submerged. Some of the wood was stripped and used to build the Compleat Angler Hotel and Bar. Other interesting dive sites include “Bimini Road,” purportedly part of Atlantis, and the Gulf Stream drop-off, where the ocean floor drops an amazing 2,000 feet.
The Fountain of Youth
On North Bimini in a saltwater swamp surrounded by mangrove trees is “The Healing Hole,” a mineral-filled freshwater pool that is surrounded by winding underground tunnels. However, it is within the shallow pools of South Bimini that Juan Ponce de León found the fabled Fountain of Youth .
Shark Mounds
These sand dunes are formed in a variety of animal shapes, including the shark. Even though the animals can only been seen while flying over the islands, early maps depict the dune shapes. Controversy about the origin of the Shark Mounds exists still today.
Visit the Hemingway Museum on Your Bimini Yacht Charter
Ernest Hemingway moved to Bimini in 1935 to spend his days fishing and writing. He wrote To Have And Have Not here as well as his unfinished manuscript, In The Stream. The museum, located in the lounge of the Compleat Angler Hotel, features pictures and writings from his two-year stay here.
Explore Bimini Beaches
Of course, yacht charter guests love the beaches of Bimini. These unpolluted, soft, white sandy beaches are of the best in the Bahamas. The blue, clear water caresses the edge of the beach. The breeze is delightful and the sun is a smile in the sky. Remote beaches, such as Bimini Bay, Porgy Bay, and Paradise Point, are favorites of charterers.
Swim with Dolphins
Wild Atlantic Spotted Dolphins were found in the mid-1990s to have taken up residence in the warm salty waters of Bimini. It’s not uncommon for these enchanting creatures to come close during a swim or want to nestle nearby. No dive or snorkel equipment needed.
Big Game Fishing
Big game fishing is legendary in Bimini, home to one of the most historical fishing spots in the Bahamas chain known as Out Islands. Catch a 12-pound bonefish, blue marlin, or otherworldly giant gold and blue yellowfin tuna while on your Bahamian adventure. And don’t be surprised if you find a shark at the end of your fishing line.
Visit Alice Town
A cozy area of beachfront commerce and the center of the tourist trade on North Bimini Island, this tropical town features hotels, bars, and restaurants just a stone’s throw (or seashells) from the ocean. Leisurely stroll through the settlement dating back to 1848 and enjoy mid-day shopping or a refreshing pina colada at a family-owned bar.
There are many exciting activities for the whole family on your Bimini yacht charter. Call our charter specialists today to arrange the escape to paradise!

The location of Bimini
Bimini is the southernmost archipelago of the Bahamas, and it is the Bahamas’ closest point to the United States. It is located app. 80 kilometres east of Miami and 210 kilometres west of Nassau. It has a population of around 2, 000 people. It consists of three islands: North Bimini, South Bimini and East Bimini. The most significant one of them is North Bimini. The island is app. 11 kilometres long and 200 metres wide. Alice Town is the capital and also the centre of the archipelago. The international airport can be found in South Bimini. Cay Sal Bank is located to the south, app. 100 kilometres away. Although it also belongs to the Bimini area, it is not part of the archipelago geographically.
At the end of the 19th century, the cotton trade provided prosperity for people on most islands including Bimini. The real flourishing started in the 1920s, during the prohibition of alcohol, as the prohibition did not apply to Bimini. During this time, a large number of ships were anchoring around Bimini, which was used for storing alcoholic beverages by American rum traders. Today, Bimini is a first-class tourist destination. The exclusive hotels and casinos attract gamblers, and the island is also a popular place among anglers thanks to the Bimini Game Club.

In Bimini, a license is not specifically required. You simply need to fill out a sailing resume and only charter a yacht that your experience permits. Before you confirm your sailing trip to the Bimini, please send us your sailing experience, or a copy of your skipper licenceand we will check it for you. As its name suggests, the main island of the archipelago, North Bimini, is located in the north. The most important towns of the area can be found here: Alice Town, Bailey Town and Paradise Point. The archipelago is sparsely populated; most people live in North Bimini, which is the most buzzing island. There are several restaurants, bars and shops that visitors can choose from; the Hemingway Museum is located in Alice Town. Bimini Road, which is among the most exciting diving spots in the Bahamas, can be found in the northern corner of the island. They say that this is where the remains of the sunken city Atlantis are. There are many yacht marinas, anchorages and long beaches here.
Blue Water Marina, Browns Marina and Resort Word Bimini are all great establishments providing full service. Bimini Big Club is very popular among the visitors of Bimini; it is a first-class entertainment facility and a yacht marina at the same time
The Bimini Big Game Club
Bimini Big Game Club was started by Neville Stuart in 1936. The businessman organised ambitious fishing contests that attracted anglers from all over the world. The club operated mainly as an exquisite restaurant at first. In 1954, they moved to their current location, Alice Town, and then the place became a major venue for big-game fishing. The club earned its current shape during the 1970s; that is when the amazing yacht marina was added. The mission of the club’s owners is to preserve their heritage for the future. It has become one of the major holiday resorts for anglers, and they have added several events to its portfolio. Regardless of why we arrived on Bimini, we will definitely find some of these events interesting. We can go fishing, scuba-diving or just enjoy the amazing atmosphere of this old historic place.
Blue Water Marina
Browns marina.
Browns Marina is the first yacht marina of the Port of Bimini, located along a 60-metre-long boardwalk. They accommodate bigger boats with a larger draft. They provide access to Wi-Fi, electricity, and they also have showers. The port has its own bar, and there is also a nice picnic place and a grill.
South Bimini
South Bimini is the second-largest island in the archipelago. There are many private estates here making this place less significant in terms of tourism than its northern counterpart. However, the most important international airport of the archipelago, South Bimini Airport, is located here. The yacht marina called Bimini Sands Marina has a Blue Flag certificate thanks to its excellent waters. Also, the services offered here will cater to all the needs of yacht owners. There are customs and immigration offices at the entrance where we can arrange our clearance. It is the ideal central destination. Nixon’s Harbour is located in the southern corner of the island with great anchorages and moorings. The famous wreck of the SS Sappona can also be found nearby; it is a popular diving and snorkeling spot.
Bimini Sands Marina
There are some smaller islands south of Bimini. The first is Gun Cay, app. 10 kilometres from the southern corner of South Bimini. One of the most popular anchorages is at the northern end; all Bahamian sailors stop at Honeymoon Harbour. The area is spectacular, and its beach is among the most beautiful ones. A unique symbol of the island is the lighthouse located in the south, standing here since 1836.
Cat Cays is the other island’s name, south of Bimini. In fact, it consists of two islands, North Cat Cay and South Cat Cay. North Cat Cay is privately-owned and is run by the Cat Cay Yacht Club. Since this is a private island, access is limited, and we are only allowed to dock temporarily in the marina. There is a restaurant, a shop and a bar, which will all make our stay here more pleasant. We must definitely visit this beautiful area around the port. South Cat Cay is not very developed yet. but we can still find great anchorages at Moxom Rocks. There is an amazing diving spot, Tuna Alley, near the shores. They have placed out mooring buoys to provide help with securing the boats to those who visit for a dive. Depth: 3.5 m, GPS Coordinates : 25.410965, -77.902506
Cat Cay Yacht Club
If you do not own a property, your only opportunity to spend a few nights here is at Cat Cay Marina. The port is among the best-protected and best-equipped establishments in the area. There are 180 berths here and they also provide a fuel dock. The beach is very calm and enchanting, and there are great diving and fishing spots in the near vicinity. Depth: 3 m, GPS Coordinates : 25.554400, -79.275003
The main attractions in Bimini
Bimini is a small pearl of the Bahamas. Amazing beaches, excellent bays and water activities. Despite its small size, we can find everything here, that we like so much in the Bahamas. There is another reason that makes the archipelago unique among the neighbouring islands: its rich history, the traces of which are still visible today. The shipwreck of the famous American ship SS Sapona is located near South Bimini. The Fountain of Youth can also be found in the south; Indian legend has it that its water has a rejuvenating effect.
Bimini Road lies near the shores of North Bimini; they say that it was part of the sunken city Atlantis. There are two lighthouses of over 200 years old towering in the sky here as well; the one on Gun Cay has been guiding Bahamian sailors since 1836. The other one, namely the Great Isaac Tower is located 30 kilometres from Bimini; it was built-in 1859. With its height of 45 metres, it is the highest lighthouse in the area.
The gastronomy of Bimini
If you would like to try the cuisine of Bimini, you must visit one of the local snack bars and restaurants. Besides filling our bellies, we can also get to know the locals, get an insight into authentic Bahamian fish frying and try different delicacies. One of the unique Bahamian specialties is the conch and the salad prepared with it. Some of the restaurants have an open kitchen setting, providing us with the opportunity to see how the food we ordered is prepared. The restaurants on the beach are more romantic, offering a wonderful view of the sea. They serve fresh frutti di mare, sushi and hamburgers, always with a twist by the local chefs. If we prefer to play it safe, we can choose from traditional American and Italian dishes as well.
Beaches in Bimini
Radio beach.
One of the most popular and best-known beaches can be found on North Bimini, directly next to Queen’s Highway. It is a very long shore segment – almost 3 kilometres in length – stretching from Alice Town all the way to Bailey Town. They refer to it as Radio Beach most of the time, but in fact, it consists of three connected beaches. Radio Beach is followed by Blister Beach and Spook Hill Beach. It would be a tough call to name the best or most beautiful one, and it is not in our place to do so. It depends entirely on you which parts you will like the best and where you want to spend a beautiful day.
Tiki Hut Beach
There are several cosy and peaceful beaches on South Bimini. Tiki Hut Beach might be the most significant one. It is a white sandy beach located on the western coast and has a length of over 2 kilometres. The shores are surrounded by breathtaking flora consisting of rattans, sisals and unique tropical flowers.
Honeymoon Beach
Honeymoon Beach is the famous beach of Gun Cay, located south of Bimini. The origin of the name is unknown, but make no mistake, the beach is not only for lovers. We can only approach it on a boat or on any other type of vessel. The beach is covered by warm sand, and diving in the incredibly clean water is a fantastic experience. There are several stingray species living near the beach, which have been so used to the presence of humans that they just swim around in peace. If we are careful enough and pay attention not to step on them, the chances of being stung are very slim. We can even touch or feed them.
North Cat Cay Beach
There are white sandy beaches all over the western coast of North Cat Cay. We can collect beautiful shells and other treasures on the beach. As the sea is very calm here, it is ideal for waterskiing, surfing and kayaking. The Bahamian waters are the cleanest in these parts, making them perfect for snorkelling as well. Divers can venture further out towards the Gulf stream where they can explore amazing reefs and giant tropical fish in the deep waters.

Sailing in Bimini – on the border of the Bahamas
Bimini is the Bahamian island located closest to the United States. It can be found [...]
Which period is best to sail in Bimini?
Bimini has a subtropical climate, characterised by moderate warm weather during the entire year. The average annual temperature is 28° Celsius; this means 21° Celsius in the winter and 27° Celsius in the summer. The temperature rarely drops below 16° Celsius or above 32° Celsius. The dominant wind blows from the northeast in the winter and from the southeast in the summer, freshening up the air a bit. The velocity of the wind is an average of 15 km/h during the entire year. Most of the precipitation falls in the summer months. At the end of the summer – during the period between June and November – tropical cyclones (hurricanes) may be a threat.
The strong wind (with a blast of over 90 km/h) and the seawater that rises, as a result, may cause heavy damage. The weather is usually pleasant in Bimini during the whole year, meaning that sailing is also enjoyable in all seasons. We should definitely avoid the hurricane season though, as storms may be very challenging.
The climate diagrams are based on 30 years of hourly weather model simulations. They give good indications of typical climate patterns and expected conditions (temperature, precipitation, sunshine, and wind). The “mean daily maximum” (solid red line) shows the maximum temperature of an average day for every month for Bimini. Likewise, the “mean daily minimum” (solid blue line) shows the average minimum temperature.
The wind rose for Bimini shows how many hours per year the wind blows from the indicated direction. The diagram for Bimini shows the days per month, during which the wind reaches a certain speed.

Guide to Bimini
Historical Paradise
Although the Bimini Islands are among the closest Bahamian destinations to the USA mainland, they are are surprisingly quiet and tranquil.
Surrounded by stunning crystal clear turquoise waters, the Bimini islands occupy a peaceful but central location which should be high on your itinerary when exploring the Bahamas . Despite the position of the islands they do not attract as many tourists and yacht charters as many other groups of islands around the Bahamian area. This is an extra plus for you, meaning more time to do your own thing and enjoying the seclusion that comes with it.
Exploring the islands you will find many interesting connections with history, one of the famous being a freshwater well with a commemorative plaque. On more than one occasion the Bimini islands have been associated with the Fountain of Youth, as some people believe that the location of that fountain is here in the Bimini islands. As a result, many religious parties make pilgrimages to pay homage to the possible existence of the phenomenon. On the other end of the spectrum, there are also locations within the chain of islands which have ties to ancient pirate legend.
In addition to the beauty which is evident across the islands, perhaps these islands are more enticing from the water. One such spot is the Healing Hole. Filled with many nutrients and minerals including lithium and sulphur, this pool is popular with visitors to help rejuvenate the body and relax. Just as relaxing, around the coasts of the Bimini islands you can enjoy some fishing. Catch a fresh supper or try to find the smalltooth sawfish, which is one of the rarest fish in the world.
Exploring deeper in the depths of the waters, you can tick off one of the most popular shipwreck dives in this area. The SS Sapona has a colorful history which has seen her store oil, have a career as a rum runner during the prohibition and then be savagely attacked by a hurricane. Even after she was grounded, the Sapona was used by armed forces for target practice during the second world war. Ideal for all levels of divers, the wreck can be seen at only 20 feet below the surface. When visiting the wreck you will not be alone as there are hundreds of fish and even some jellyfish housed in the vicinity.
Even after ticking the SS Sapona off your list you still need to visit another sight – one which has puzzled many divers and oceanographic experts. Situated in the northern area of the Bimini islands is the attraction best known as the Stones of Atlantis. Although many theories place Atlantis in one of many locations around the globe, this particular spot is a positive contender. The arrangement of stones appears to be man-made, and it looks like it could be a path or even a segment of wall.
Take to the waters to investigate for yourself, and be sure to see all the other beautiful sights around this tropical necklace of islands. Start planning your vacation to Bimini by comparing all of the available luxury superyachts for Bahamas yacht charters .

Bimini Bay Beach Resort Casino Bimini Bay Marina Bimini Shipwreck Snorkeling and Scuba Swim with Dolphins Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth
When you charter a yacht to the Bahamas , you’ll visit a chain of tiny islands situated just west of the Bahamas that are merely a three hour boat ride away from South Beach, Miami. Bimini is rich in history, culture and is home to many landmarks that can be visited only by boat. Known for its laid back lifestyle, crystal clear water, pristine white sandy beaches and picturesque nature trails, visitors are pleasantly surprised with the many activities waiting to be explored. If you’re a diver or snorkeler, Bimini offers some of the finest aqua experiences around. Swim up close with wild dolphins and stingrays, or explore the age old remains of a mysterious shipwreck.
One of the most well known tourist destinations in the area is Underwater Bimini Road; an unusual rock formation that dates back centuries and is believed to be the remnants of an ancient human built road. BAHAMAS YACHT CHARTERS TO BIMINI ISLANDS AND POINTS OF INTEREST
Bimini is the nearest Bahamian island (two islands) to the USA, barely 50 miles from Miami, it’s a very short trip and only a few hours by yacht from Miami. A tiny island of the Bahamas, Bimini is just 7 miles long and barely 700 feet wide at its widest point. Bimini is the western most island in the Bahamas and the closest foreign island to the US mainland and has previously been recognized mainly for the famous Hemingway era.
Whether you come with the family, as a couple, or single for bar hopping, casinos, scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, tanning on the beaches, or relaxing in a hammock in the cool breeze, the Bahamas will leave you speechless and satisfied. A US Passport or birth certificate is required when traveling to the Bahamas.
BAHAMAS YACHT CHARTERS TO NASSAU, HARBOUR CAY, BERRY ISLANDS
The more ‘popular’ areas of the Bahamas begins in the Berry Islands, while on your way to Nassau, which are low-lying and unique with few inhabitants, fantastic fishing and the feeling of being on a different planet. Many groups make Chub Cay their first stop, then go north…or start in Great Stirrup Cay and go Southwards. Either way, even on a power-yacht, it will take a week or longer to when traveling by yacht. If leaving from Miami, charterers will cross the Gulf Stream with its seasonal uncertainties, with slight chances of the charter being delayed a day or so, if the seas are too rough, but this is not normally the case and the journey is well worth it!! Most our charter guests prefer to fly into Nassau, and board their sailing or motor yacht at the Atlantis Hotel and Marina, beginning their cruise in Bahamas, avoiding the seven-hour delivery across the Atlantic Ocean. Other charterers, especially the bare-boaters, like to fly into Marsh Harbour in the Abacos and rent a charter boat from there and explore the Sea of Abaco.
The Atlantis Hotel Casino and Resort is the largest and most amazing resort in all of Bahamas, offering 5-Star amenities for all ages including a theme waterpark, the Caribbean’s largest aquarium, interactive dolphin lagoon, world-class casino and spa, couture brand shopping center, and over a dozen fine dining restaurants. Many charters begin and end their charter at the Atlantis Marina, which provides just enough excitement and action for a couple of days, while other days are spent exploring the more remote islands.
For more information about the casino, visit http://www.atlantisbahamas.com/
BAHAMAS YACHT CHARTERS TO EXUMAS AND ABACOS
The Exumas chain of 365 islands (or cays) in the Bahamas, starts about 35 nm South of Nassau and runs about 120 nm South from Allen Cay, all the way to Georgetown that has an airport with regular scheduled flights. This is considered the most sought after location in the Bahamas with crystal-clear waters, swimming pigs, superb diving, friendly petting sharks, snorkeling, fishing and lots of neat little bays and coves to anchor out. Exumas is a special strip of private islands where one can find a lone Tiki beach bar in the middle of seemingly nowhere…in paradise! Be sure to visit Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, which some consider the most breathtaking place is the Exumas. http://www.exumapark.org. There are some great itineraries that start and end either in Nassau or Staniel Cay and cover the upper Exumas, Cat Island, Eleuthera, and Harbour island.
For the even more adventurous, a Georgetown pick-up and a route that includes the “Out-Islands” of the Bahamas is even more attractive for those of us who like remote and mostly uninhabited islands. The few locals you encounter are very friendly and polite. This route includes the islands of Rum Cay, Conception, San Salvador, Long Island, Acklins, Crooked Islands, and Mayaguana. The island of Great Inagua has a fine National Park and nature reserve with the largest population of West Indian Flamingoes, Parrots, and other bird species. Little Inagua has a large population of feral donkeys and goats that were originally left there (or escaped from) the numerous wrecks caused by the Inagua reef.
In the Northern Bahamas, the Sea of Abaco, with its three “major towns” of Marsh Harbour, Hopetown and Coopers Town and ringed by Green Turtle Cay, Treasure Cay and many others, constitutes a small isolated area with its own special culture and values. The Abacos are especially known for calm waters, warm breezes and panoramic beauty that make this 120-mile–long chain of islands a boating and sailing paradise. It’s not just the sea that attracts travelers from around the world. Those who prefer to explore by land will find championship golf courses on Treasure Cay, charming colonial towns on Green Turtle and Elbow Cays, and countless hotels, restaurants and bars throughout.
In summary, the Bahamas is not just Bimini and the casinos of Freeport, Lucaya, Nassau and Paradise Island. The real Bahamas can be seen only by a private charter boat and remains one of the most unbelievable recreational cruising grounds in the world.

Additionally, setting sail with a skipper will make your voyage even more comfortable! The skipper will take care of all the technical aspects of sailing, so all you need to do is sit back and relax.
If you would like to take charge of your boat charter in Bimini, then bareboat charters are the way to go. Enjoy a bareboat charter if you have a license and set sail at your own pace. You need a valid boating license to enjoy a boat this way so check with the boat owner beforehand to see that your license is valid.
When is the best time of year to rent a boat?
The best time to visit Bimini and rent a boat is during the high season, which typically falls between December and April . The average temperatures during the high season range from the 70s to 80s Fahrenheit, providing ideal conditions for sailing, snorkeling, and basking in the sun.
If you prefer to avoid the peak crowds but still enjoy good weather, consider visiting in the shoulder months of November and May . What type of boat is best for a Bimini boat charter?
Before choosing the right vessel for your boat rental in Bimini, you first have to think about the duration of your holiday. If you’re only going to sail for a few days, it is best to opt for a daily charter such as a motorboat or a RIB. With the speed of these vessels, you’ll be able to see everything on your wish list in no time. If you’re planning a longer charter of a week or more you should choose a vessel that includes amenities you’ll need during your stay. Catamarans and yachts have the space and accommodations on board to ensure a comfortable stay on the water. For a more luxurious holiday, you might consider a gulet, and for an authentic sailing experience a sailboat.
If you’re unsure about whether or not a vessel suits your needs, feel free to contact the boat owners to get a better sense of what is included on board. With our large fleet, you’ll have no problem finding the perfect boat for your Bimini boat charter!

Being so close to South Florida means that many choose to sail over to the Bahamas for an overnight stay, or longer. Although you can make the trip to Bimini as a day trip, by staying to explore you can experience the local culture and cuisine without rushing back. Bimini is actually closer to Florida than to Freeport or Nassau, so Miami makes a great base to explore this far flung part of these islands.
The great thing about having your private yacht charter is that you’re free to explore and follow your own schedule. Choose from bareboats, for those who want to use their own experience and skills, or charter a captained yacht to set sail to the amazing Bimini Islands.

Being part of a tropical archipelago such as the Bahamas, of course there is a variety of incredible beaches just waiting for you to discover, but if you’re looking for action there is plenty of choice too. Kayaking and paddle boarding are popular things to do in Bimini, perfect for exploring many of the local cays including the beautiful Honeymoon and Gun Cay. Diving the SS Sapona in Bimini
This rusted wreck was once used by a local rum runner to supply Florida with booze during the prohibition era. Today, the shell of the SS Sapona is used as a navigational landmark for many boaters in the area, and is one of the most popular places to visit by boat rental in Bimini. Sitting in just 15 feet of water, it’s easy to dive in and take a look around at the sea-life that have made the wreck home. Just three miles offshore from South Bimini Island, make sure to visit SS Sapona on your Bahamas sailing trip.

Diving or snorkeling the bimini road.
Thanks to its linear underwater formation, locals believe that Bimini Road is all that remains of the fabled city of Atlantis. Whatever it is, the Bimini Road is an unmissable attraction for snorkelers and divers visiting the area, easily accessible with your boat rental. Sitting in around 18 foot of water, the formation follows a path around one mile underwater, just off the shores of North Bimini Island. You’ll spot a plethora of fish, as well as nurse and hammerhead sharks, kingfish and more. If you’re lucky maybe even encounter dolphins and turtles…

Explore turtle rocks on a bimini boat rental.
Just south of South Bimini Island, Turtle Rocks are a formation jutting out of the sea which offer fantastic and varied underwater terrain. For snorkelling, the shallows around the rocks are teeming with sea-life including stingrays and, as the name implies, turtles. Going down to 115 feet deep, the rocks offer a great opportunity for all levels of divers, with sharks, eagle rays and barracuda calling the area around here home.
Enjoy local cuisine in Alice Town
All that sailing and snorkeling sure works up an appetite, and thankfully there are plenty of places to enjoy some exquisite cuisine in the Bimini Islands. Enjoy a traditional (and very fiery) fresh conch salad, fresh lobster tails, grilled fish or spicy jerk dishes at many of the shacks and bars across Alice Town. Wash it all down with a cool Sands beer, which is the local brew, and finish it off with Guava Duff, a traditional dessert made from guava and rum. A perfect end to a fantastic sailing trip on your Sailo boat rental.
