Toronto Yacht Club Wedding; Jess and Chris

February 23, 2021.

This playful twosome tied the knot on Toronto's Island Yacht Club . The laid-back lawn ceremony was perfectly balanced like the couple; with joyful tears and funny jokes. Similarly, the setting too seemed to symbolize the duo with lavish pampas grass and gorgeous white blooms decorated upon a perfectly groomed yet natural lawn.

It was a perfect summer day to celebrate the couple's union. After cocktails outdoors, guests took it inside to the modern club house where dinner and speeches began. The evening of dance went back outside to the string lit patio under the stars.

Jess is the perfect ying to Chris's yang. It doesn't take long to feel the admiration and love between them. Chris is certainly the entertainer between the two and Jess thinks he's most certainly the cats meow.

TORONTO WEDDING

"Here comes the McCracken show" is shouted by Chris's friends when Chris enters a room. (McCracken referring to his last name). More importantly, above all the jokes and witty come-backs, he pays great attention to detail and took upon organizing most of his wedding! With his big character, you might think he can outshine the tiny and sweet Jess, but she can certainly hold her own. She is gorgeous, stylish and beyond her good looks, she balances Chris and jokes back with a feisty yet sweet playfulness. In conclusion, this couple is adored by all!

RECEPTION GAMES

Instead of a bouquet toss, Jess opted for the ribbon cutting bouquet game. A great alternative that hasn't touched Canada quite yet. For example, the idea is to attach multiple lengths of ribbon to the handle of the bouquet. Each unmarried guest gets a ribbon and starts walking in a circle around the bride who holds the bouquet over her head. As guests walk around her, she closes her eyes and blindly cuts the ribbons. The last ribbon in tact, is the winner or the next to be married! How cute and beautiful for photos. I certainly had fun photographing it.

Congrats on your marriage you two. Keep the jokes and fire a flame!

12 Toronto Waterfront Wedding Venues You Need to See

From west end ballrooms to an Island yacht club, Toronto’s waterfront is booming with wedding venues.

Artscape Gibraltar Point / Sara Monika Photo

Want to say your “I dos” while looking out onto Lake Ontario? Well, good news, you can totally make it happen without getting a city permit to use a beach or park. That’s right, Toronto has a roster of stunning event venues that sit right on the water. If you want to have your dream beach wedding without any fuss or muss, these are the wedding venues you should add to your scouting list.

Here are a dozen waterfront weddings venues in Toronto.

Hotel x toronto (111 princes' boulevard).

Let's kick things off with a relatively new lakefront wedding venue near Ontario Place—the modern and chic Hotel X Toronto.  It offers a variety of luxurious event spaces with views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline ranging from an upscale rooftop lounge to traditional ballrooms. With many unique indoor and outdoor spaces (including gardens) to choose from, they can accommodate anywhere from 50 to 400 guests, so it's definitely worth a visit.

Hotel X Toronto

Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex (25 British Columbia Rd.)

If you're looking for a waterfront venue that's got more of an old-school vibe, then the legendary  Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex on the CNE grounds should be on your scouting list. Built in 1926, this large building has elegant banquet halls decorated in a classic style with1900s charm and views of the lake. They have many in-house services including event planning, rentals, decor and even floral arrangements. Their capacity is 100 to 2000.

Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex

Palais Royale (1601 Lakeshore Boulevard)

Palais Royale is probably Toronto’s most famous waterfront venue, and for good reason. It gives off some serious Great Gatsby vibes thanks to its art deco flourishes and has played host to greats like Duke Ellington and Count Basie. The space is perfect for guest lists of any size, from intimate gatherings of 25 to grand 800-person receptions. Bonus: it’s perched at the foot of Roncesvalles Avenue , a street where you can find all your wedding necessities, from your flowers to your rehearsal dinner location.

Palais Royale

Sunnyside Pavilion (1755 Lakeshore Boulevard)

Walk west of Palais Royale and you’ll find another wedding-worthy beachfront venue,  Sunnyside Pavilion . This spot has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a changing facility in 1922 - and I mean a looong way. It’s now a full-fledged event venue, equipped with catering, consultation services and, of course, a killer backdrop for your big day (from ornate archways to gardens, it has it all). Its capacity is 70 to 90 people, so don’t go overboard with your guest list.

Sunnyside Pavilion

The Boulevard Club (1491 Lakeshore Boulevard)

This swanky private members club is another tried and true west end option overlooking the water.  The Boulevard Club features chandeliers, french doors and sleek wooden accents, ideal for couples who are in the market for something with a classic, old-timey feel. Its team can take care of everything from catering to breakdown, so you won’t have anything to worry about on your big day. Its largest space, the ballroom, has a capacity of 200 (or 250 without a dance floor).

The Boulevard Club

Artscape Gibraltar Point (443 Lakeshore Avenue)

When you think of the waterfront, the Island is probably one of the first things that come to your mind. While the sands of Hanlan’s Point are probably your go-to spot, you’ll have to expand your horizons to find that wedding-worthy location. We suggest making  Artscape Gibraltar Point your first stop. It has options available for those who want to get hitched on the sandy shores with the waves crashing in the background, on the lawn surrounded by trees and indoors (a triple threat!). Its capacity indoors is 270, but it can accommodate up to 2000 outdoors.

Royal Canadian Yacht Club (2 Chippewa Avenue)

Unfortunately, you probably won’t be receiving a yacht as a wedding gift, however, you can surround yourself with them on your big day. The Royal Canadian Yacht Club ’s Island Clubhouse is a truly unique venue that caters to Toronto’s aquaphiles. Instead of crystal chandeliers and archways, you’ll find maritime murals, sky blue walls and nautical flourishes. You’ll also be treated to amazing views of the Lake and the city skyline - AKA the perfect backdrops for your wedding photos. The capacity is 250.

Royal Canadian Yacht Club

Island Yacht Club (539 Queens Quay West)

For a more modern and relaxed vibe for your nautical wedding  that's only a 15-minute private boat ride from the city, check out the Island Yacht Club . You can host up to 170 guests on the 18-acre private property near Toronto Harbour. They can provide everything from a bridal suite to event rentals so there's no need to transport lots of supplies to the island.

Island Yacht Club

Boxcar Social Harbourfront (235 Queens Quay West)

Boxcar Social , one of Toronto’s most beloved coffee joints/watering holes, has a Harbourfront location right near the foot of Lower Simcoe. The space has an industrial-chic feel, outfitted with wooden bars and stools, exposed ventilation ducts and, of course, an impressive patio. It can accommodate about 100 guests.

Boxcar Social Harbourfront

Westin Harbour Castle (1 Harbour Square)

If a hotel wedding is more your thing, try the Westin Harbour Castle . It’s located just a hop, skip and a jump away from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal and offers amazing views of the water. The hotel is equipped with an array of ballrooms, intimate party rooms and outdoor spaces, all of which can be tailored to suit your wedding. Bonus: you can reserve  blocks of rooms for your out-of-towners right in the hotel. Indoors it can accommodate up to 2000 people, so you can think big when crafting your guest list.

The Westin Harbour Castle

Against The Grain (25 Dockside Drive)

Against The Grain is another stellar centrally located venue. The restaurant sits near the bottom of Lower Jarvis Street, making it a pretty accessible option. The tavern is decorated with modern furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows that fill it with natural light during the daytime (great for capturing your candids) and has a capacity of 150. For events, the space can be combined with the Corus Atrium with a capacity of 250 for a seated meal or 400 for a cocktail reception. For a smaller guest list of 60 to 80 seated or up to 120 for a cocktail reception, you can book the 8th floor in the Corus Entertainment Building (which shares the same address).

Against The Grain

The Guild Inn Estate (201 Guildwood Parkway)

Head to Scarborough and you'll find a versatile waterfront venue - The Guild Inn Estate . What was once the modest, two-storey Bickford House (built in 1914) is now an event oasis, with sweeping grounds and amenities like valet parking, in-house catering and complimentary service staff. It has both indoor and outdoor options, to choose from and a capacity of 1000.

Queen City Yacht Club | Toronto Island Wedding

December 29th, 2023.

Perched on the shore of Toronto Island, the Queen City Yacht Club made the perfect setting for Joanna and Ben's intimate wedding celebration. This beautiful venue, surrounded by Lake Ontario, was chosen by our lovely couple, setting a whimsical tone for the day's proceedings.

Joanna and Ben's wedding was a celebration of love, family, and friendship. From the moment I arrived, I was drawn in by J & B's relaxed and welcoming energy. We kicked the day off at the harbour with a completely unprompted and unposed first look before boarding the Queen City Yacht Club's water shuttle to head to the Island. Joanna & Ben made it a point to focus on spending quality time with their family and friends, they even welcomed their wedding party to be part of the first look and boat ride. This focus on time with loved ones gave their wedding a warm, personal touch.

The couple exchanged vows beneath a beautifully decorated arch, with the panoramic view of the Toronto skyline serving as a dramatic backdrop. The ceremony was simple yet heartfelt, with every word and gesture echoing the deep love and respect Joanna and Ben share. A few happy tears were shed which is basically wedding photographer gold ;).

After the ceremony, the guests were treated to a delicious meal, with the yacht club's chefs pulling out all the stops to ensure everyone was well-fed. The couple's decision to keep things relaxed was evident in the reception. There were no rigid schedules or rushed activities; instead, everyone was given the freedom to mingle, eat, drink, and celebrate at their own pace.

As the sun began to set, the beauty of Toronto Island and the water really came to life. The sky was painted with hues of orange, pink, and purple, casting a romantic glow over the entire venue. This was, without a doubt, one of the highlights of the wedding. Seizing the opportunity, I snuck Joanna and Ben away for a quick photo session on the old barge that now serves as a beautiful patio on the water.

Looking back, Joanna and Ben's wedding stood out not just for its beautiful location or the relaxed vibe, but for the genuine happiness that was palpable throughout the day. It was a beautiful celebration of love, one that I feel incredibly privileged to have been a part of. Here's to Joanna and Ben, and to a lifetime of love and happiness.

Toronto Island Wedding at the RCYC // Bliss & Seb

Bliss and Seb’s Toronto Island wedding at the RCYC took place on a beautiful summer day. The RCYC is definitely one of my favourite venues in Toronto. It’s technically in Toronto, and yet being on Toronto island makes it feel like it’s not even part of the city. Not to mention the amazing view of the Toronto skyline from the front lawn.

Bliss and Seb met through Bliss’ older brother, and even though on the outside, they seem like completely different people, they seem to fit so well together. People often say that a wedding is not just the joining of two individuals, but also of two families. This couldn’t be more true for Bliss and Seb’s wedding, as Bliss is of Guyanese background and Seb is Greek. I feel so honoured to be able to document so many multi-cultural weddings as a wedding photographer in Canada!

Thanks Bliss & Seb for having me document your heartwarming wedding day! Here’s the story of their big day.

The Island Yacht Club is a joke. We spent months planning a very special event to take place at their facility and at the last minute they completely screwed us by telling us that they were no longer holding private events. Our initial first impression was very positive. The space is pretty and the staff were attentive. Once high season began the staff became impossible to deal with. It often took two weeks to get them to respond. When we went over to have dinner to try the food we were less than impressed. Some dishes were just ok while others were completely inedible. The worst thing was that multiple stalls in the women's washroom had backed up during a wedding that day creating a terrible mess and stench. Hours later they had not fixed the plumbing or cleaned up the space leaving the women's washroom totally unusable. One person in our group had been a member at the Spoke Club which has partnered with the IYC. This is why we went to the IYC in the first place. While staff at the Spoke Club initially met with us about our concerns, ultimately they did nothing to help fix the situation. The IYC, their staff and their leadership are absolutely pathetic. They cannot handle the simplest tasks and have no idea what professionalism means. If you are considering joining the club or holding an event take my advice and steer clear of this place.

Photo of Robert R.

They've lost the plot. Their current marketing is smoke and mirrors. If you are sailing/cruising better to go to the Toronto Island Marina or the Wall where at least the showers are hot. It's currently a rip.

When the pandemic first arrived at the beginning of 2020, it opened up the door to the beginnings of a rudimentary micro wedding trend: at the time, essentially, a no-frills wedding ceremony for 10-25 of your nearest and dearest (think city hall but without the city hall). Now, with a year under our collective belts and restrictions poised to loosen for 2021, we’re seeing a big push toward small yet elegant combined reception-ceremonies that can accommodate anywhere between 10 to 50 guests. If this sounds like something that’s more to your taste right now, you’ll be pleased to know that we’ve rounded up a handful of wedding venues offering micro wedding packages!

Now that covid is over, you may also wish to check our top picks of Toronto’s luxury hotel for wedding venues .

For an additional cost, audio visual and webcasting add-ons are available as well.

The top 15 sailing clubs in Toronto

Latest Videos

Sailing clubs are a plenty in Toronto because we're lucky enough to have easy access to Lake Ontario. These clubs offer a safe place to moor your boat and almost all of them offer lessons . If you're new to the sport, one of the below clubs is a good place to start your journey.

Here are my top picks for sailing clubs in Toronto:

Toronto Sailing & Canoe Club

Non-profit and volunteer-run sailing club, this club is located on three acres of land on Humber Bay along the north shore of Lake Ontario.  Although membership is required to use the club's fleet, one need not be a member to enter the club's Learn to Sail Program.

Water Rats Sailing Club

This 200-member sailing and paddling club on Regatta Road is volunteer-run and a non-profit co-op. This club is more of a small boat club, keelboats and boats with cabins aren't allowed. Their membership and initiation fees are also lower than other clubs.

Aquatic Park Sailing Club

Located within Tommy Thompson park, this sailing club is a self-described "boat self-help" and "urban wilderness sailing club" where members adopt a DIY attitude. There are no monthly bar and restaurant fees and the clubhouse is run on solar power.

Toronto Island Sailing Club

This sailing club is, you guessed it, right on Centre Island, west of the Toronto Island Marina on the north shore. Membership allows for complete access to the club's fleet. Members can take part in the club's lessons, clinics, and racing programs.

Mooredale Sailing Club

This sailing club is just east of downtown, near Cherry Beach. Membership includes CYA (Canadian Yachting Association) certified beginner lessons to Level CANSail II. Members enjoy unlimited use of the club's sailing fleet.

Westwood Sailing Club

Located just next door to Mooredale, this club offer a wide variety of sailing courses, but full membership is a requirement. They're also a non-profit and it's not a requirement to own a boat to sail there.

National Yacht Club

Opposite Billy Bishop Airport, this is more of a keelboat (bigger boat) club, but they also offer an adult learn to sail program for instruction in smaller, more responsive sailboat handling. Courses here are open to non-members.

Island Yacht Club

From the people behind King West's Spoke Club is the Island Yacht Club on the Toronto Islands. For a pretty penny you have access to a full range of amenities including 140 docks, tennis courts and a swimming pool. They also run a sailing school.

Ashbridge's Bay Yacht Club

This east-side club near the Beaches has a pretty unique membership structure, so if you're interested in joining take a look at which type of membership works best for you. The club offers a licensed restaurant, patio and lounge.

Humber Bay Sailing Centre

Both a sailing club and school, this is a great place in Humber Bay Park to make new friends at the club, write your exam to get the Toronto Harbour License and take a course in basic keelboat cruising.

St. James Town Sailing Club

This sailing club is nestled amid the other sailing clubs beyond the port on Regatta Road. The club offers lessons to members only, but membership gets you unlimited access to the fleet.

Port Credit Yacht Club

This sailing club is further west than most, but also boasts prime amenities like winter storage facilities and a mobile marine lift. They also offer lessons for everyone — no matter the skill level.

Queen City Yacht Club

Self-described as "one of Toronto's oldest and friendliest sailing clubs", this sailing club on the Toronto Islands has plenty of opportunities for members to sail and make friends while they're at it during their Wednesday night racing series. They've even got a club magazine.

The Royal Canadian Yacht Club

This is one wide-reaching sailing club. They have clubhouses for members in the  city and on the Toronto Islands. They also have programs for adults who are brand new to the sport that can be taken by non-members.

Alexandra Yacht Club

Across from Billy Bishop airport, this sailing club boasts interconnected floating docks, swing moorings, Thursday night Race Nights, an "informal winter program" and Wi-Fi.
