MSC Divina Yacht Club

msc cruise ships with yacht club

The MSC Yacht Club on the MSC Divina is much like the one on the other MSC cruise ships in the Fantasia class like the MSC Splendida . It's an exclusive "ship within a ship" sanctuary, with suite accommodations, Concierge reception area, lounge, pool and bar area, plus a private restaurant and private access to the MSC Aurea Spa.

Those staying in the MSC Yacht Club can enjoy complimentary wines, spirits, and gourmet snacks in the Concierge lounge, along with Butler service in their staterooms or suites. The spectacular views of the sea from this Deck 15 Lounge also make the Yacht Club a guest favorite.

The MSC Cruises' ships with Yacht Clubs include MSC Divina, MSC Fantasia, MSC Meraviglia, MSC Preziosa, MSC Seaside, MSC Seaview, MSC Bellissima, and MSC Splendida.

Top Sail Lounge

TripSavvy / Linda Garrison

The Top Sail Lounge in the MSC Divina Yacht Club is a quiet place to have a drink, enjoy a snack, or just appreciated the exceptional views of the sea. It is an exclusive area for those staying in the Yacht Club staterooms and suites.

Snacks in the Top Sail Lounge

Those staying in the MSC Yacht Club can enjoy nightly canapes and other snacks along with a complimentary drink in the Top Sail Lounge.

Light Bites in the Top Sail Lounge

Guests staying in the MSC Yacht Club can enjoy light bites in the Top Sail Lounge, but they also have access to a dedicated restaurant for dinner. The menus in this special restaurant are exciting and sophisticated, and unlimited drinks are included with each meal. On the MSC Divina, the dedicated Yacht Club restaurant is named La Muse, and it is located aft on deck 15.

Sophia Loren Suite Sitting Room

The Sophia Loren Suite on the MSC Divina is one of two Royal Suites on the large ship . The suite was designed by Sophia Loren and has a separate sleeping area. The decor is mostly red, and the walls are covered with photos from her movie career. The suite has a separate bedroom and measures 390 square feet with a 172 square foot balcony.

Photos of Ms. Loren in some of her famous movie roles adorn the walls of the suite, and occupants can sit at a replica of her dressing table to apply makeup and style their hair. However, sitting at this dressing table probably won't make you look like Sophia Loren, but might give you an extra boost of confidence.

Sophia Loren Suite Bedroom

Doesn't this bed look like it was designed for a famous movie star like Sophia Loren? The red certainly looks like it is fit for a diva.

Deluxe Suite Category YC1

Those staying in one of the 62 MSC Yacht Club suites on the MSC Divina can enjoy all the yacht club amenities, including 24-hour butler service. These suites measure 234-283 square feet, plus a 61 square foot balcony. They aren't as spacious or distinctive as the Sophia Loren Suite but are very nice (and less expensive).

Wheelchair Accessible Deluxe Suite

The MSC Divina has two wheelchair accessible deluxe suites in the exclusive MSC Yacht Club area. They measure 356 square feet and have a 39 square foot balcony.

Le Muse Private Restaurant

Le Muse is the private restaurant for those staying in the MSC Divina Yacht Club. This restaurant is located aft on deck 15 and features fine food and panoramic views of the sea.

A summary of the special features in the MSC Yacht Club include:

On the other hand, NCL Haven offers an exclusive cocktail party with the ship’s officers, Broadway shows, musicals, etc. NCL also offers exotic entertainment options with its variety of comedy and night events. The night is never dull onboard NCL Haven.

NCL Haven’s self-contained area is specifically designed for a one-of-a-kind experience for its passengers. This dedicated space includes special and separated entries, venues, dining, and entertainment facilities.

Also, both MSC Yacht Club and NCL Haven offer priority embarkment and disembarkment for their passengers.

Price Range

In terms of price, NCL Haven is a bit more expensive than MSC Yacht Club . For example, the interior cabins on MSC Yacht Club cost $2800 for 2 people with a balcony that costs $4100.

On the other hand, NCL Haven costs $3000 per person on an average weeklong trip in its suits. But this price may vary based on availability, time of the year, last-minute sailings, etc. And the larger the suits, the more it will cost you.

MSC Yacht Club VS NCL Haven: What Is Best for You?

So, now you have an idea of both MSC Yacht Club and NCL Haven’s services. It’s time for you to decide which one is best for you. At a glance, NCL Haven offers more freestyle cruising with exciting and exotic entertainment options.

Conversely, MSC Yacht Club’s Parisian-inspired Cabaret and Aurea Spa are wonderful entertainment options that can compare with the Haven. Also, NCL Haven is a bit more expensive with similar services to MSC Yacht.

But the exclusive and specialty menu service in your suite can only happen in NCL Haven. So, choose which you like.

For more luxury cruise options, you can compare Norwegian Cruise Line with Holland America . Holland America also provides many premium and luxury cruise services.

Is Room Service Free in The NCL Haven?

The guests enlisted in the NCL Haven suits don’t have to pay for room services. But there’s a 20% gratuity and additional charges for non-complementary beverages through room service.

So, now choose a pick for your next sailing between MSC Yacht Club vs NCL Haven.

There’s always something missing in one while the other has it. Choose a cruise line service that you see fit with your preference and trip goal. But if you’re a solo cruiser and love activities, go for the NCL Haven. You’ll have a much good time.

This Brand-new Ship Has One of the Largest Yacht Clubs in Its Fleet, Endless Adventure, and a Glass-bottomed Bridge

MSC Seascape just set sail — here's what it's like on board.

msc cruise ships with yacht club

Christine Burroni

The MSC Seascape may share many similar — or even identical — features with its predecessors, but when it comes to luxury, the fleet’s newest vessel certainly leveled up. The new ship sailed on its inaugural journey with guests from Rome to New York City this past weekend and will go on to sail out of Miami to the Caribbean for future trips.

While the European cruise line has become known for its luxury ship-within-a-ship concept, called Yacht Club , the Seascape boasts one of its largest clubs with 131 suites — with five categories to choose from — taking up 32,000 square feet. Located at the front of the ship, most exclusive Yacht Club spaces, like the private dining area or pool deck, are afforded sweeping ocean views.

Courtesy of MSC Cruises

In addition to a private restaurant with a regularly changing menu, and both indoor and outdoor lounge space, passengers who make a Yacht Club reservation are treated to expedited embarkation, 24-hour butler and concierge service, and access to the spa’s Thermal Suite where a sauna, steam room, and whirlpool awaits. Members will also have access to the ship's Top Sail Lounge for coffee, tea, and light bites at any time of day.

Yacht Club guests also enjoy the ship's premium drink package, an unpacking or packing service, a morning newspaper delivery of their choice, and the ability to select a specific pillow for customized comfort.

Sailing the blue water of the Caribbean while tucked in a super-exclusive setting may seem exceptionally relaxing, but the MSC Seascape also offers just the opposite for those looking for a bit of an adrenaline rush — with an extreme thrill ride and virtual reality experiences.

Adrenaline junkies can take a ride on the ship's Robotron , an attraction unique to the ship that will bring riders nearly 175 feet above water and flip upside down, moving in all directions to offer unobstructed 360-degree views.

Those looking to keep their feet on the ground can still get their adventure fix with a walk across the Bridge of Sighs, a 72-foot-high glass-bottomed bridge.

The MSC Seascape is also home to a variety of virtual reality experiences. Riders can choose from Formula 1 racing, a flight simulator, and motorcycle riding.

“ MSC Seascape is an exciting addition to our fleet of Seaside Class ships with its elevated onboard experiences that will surprise and delight all ages," Ruben Rodriguez, President, MSC Cruises USA exclusively told Travel + Leisure. " From one of the largest and most luxurious Yacht Clubs in our fleet to interactive, high-tech experiences like the first Robotron at sea and immersive VR experiences, MSC Seascape brings unparalleled entertainment and thrills to our guests.”

Elsewhere on board, the ship’s interior is very similar to that of MSC’s other vessels, like the line's one-year-old MSC Seashore, including its Times Square–inspired décor, Swarovski crystal–adorned staircases, and Atrium space where live entertainment takes place.

Fans of the ship's fleet will also recognize its signature restaurants including Butcher's Cut steakhouse, Ocean Cay seafood restaurant, and more. Its lively sports bar is the perfect spot to catch any game around the world — and there are 18 other bars and lounges on board, some of which offer live music.

MSC Seascape journeys set sail from Miami to the Caribbean where passengers can visit the company's private Bahamas island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.

How MSC’s private island experience is different for cruisers in suites

Ashley Kosciolek

Do you enjoy large cruise ships but still want to feel like you're in the lap of luxury? Passengers booked in MSC Cruises' Yacht Club cabins and suites have access to high-end amenities – both on the ship and off.

Butlers, exclusive dining and a private pool delight guests on board, but perks also await on MSC 's private island, Ocean Cay Marine Reserve , in the Bahamas. You can expect dedicated trams, towel service and a chance to book the nicest cabanas on the island, among other extras.

msc cruise ships with yacht club

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club beaches vs. regular beaches

msc cruise ships with yacht club

MSC's Ocean Cay Marine Reserve private island is home to seven (soon to be eight) beaches, and all are public, except one — Ocean House Beach, which is the Yacht Club's exclusive swath of sand. Beyond its exclusivity, the beach has a few other differences from the island's regular beaches.

There, use of lounge chairs and umbrellas is free. Chairs at the other beaches are also free and available on a first-come, first-served basis; however, umbrellas come with an extra cost.

Passengers must sign out towels on board the ship before heading ashore to Ocean Cay's main beaches. Yacht Club passengers can skip that hassle and ask for towels at the towel tent found on Ocean House Beach.

msc cruise ships with yacht club

Interestingly, I found that several of the public beaches were less crowded than Ocean House Beach. At the latter, chairs were positioned much more closely to one another. If you're willing to walk or hitch a ride on one of the island's trams, you'll find fewer crowds on the farther beaches than if you stick close to the ship.

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club food vs. regular dining

msc cruise ships with yacht club

Free lunch is included for all cruisers who visit Ocean Cay. For Yacht Club travelers, the Ocean House Restaurant — an exclusive waiter-served dining venue where passengers enjoy their meals on a shaded porch — exudes upscale beach vibes.

msc cruise ships with yacht club

During my visit, the menu included starters like crab ceviche, charred octopus and a salad with romaine, tomatoes, jicama, a poached egg and candied bacon in a citrus dressing. Mains featured locally sourced blackened mahi-mahi, lobster roll, carne asada, a grilled portobello mushroom sandwich and one of the best burgers I've ever tasted during a cruise — a blend of Angus chuck, short ribs and grilled brisket with red onion jam and Monterey Jack cheese. Desserts consisted of creme caramel, mango cheesecake and chocolate cake with coffee sauce.

msc cruise ships with yacht club

The meals at Ocean House are definitely superior to the fare found at the Seakers buffet, which is where cruisers not staying in the Yacht Club can go for a beach barbecue that serves hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, macaroni and cheese, red beans, roasted potatoes and a slew of salads, drinks and desserts.

msc cruise ships with yacht club

The food is tasty, but lines can be long. An alternative is to head to one of several food trucks throughout the island. Some are free and dole out the same items offered on the buffet but with shorter lines. Others sell entirely different menu items — lobster grilled cheese, fried calamari, shrimp with watermelon, Caribbean ceviche and octopus salad — with the cost charged to cruisers' onboard accounts.

msc cruise ships with yacht club

Additionally — and also for an extra fee — a stand near the ship offers specialty coffee and ice cream. (If you're a coffee lover, trust me when I say you won't want to miss the Coco-Nilla Latte.)

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club cabanas vs. regular cabanas

msc cruise ships with yacht club

There are three types of cabanas on Ocean Cay: Ocean Cay Beach Cabanas, Ocean View Yacht Club Cabanas and Beachfront Yacht Club Cabanas. All three types are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

They can hold up to six people each and include cold water, beach towels and chairs, as well as floating mats for use in the water. As the prices increase, so does the number of inclusions. The last two types are only available for booking by Yacht Club passengers.

Ocean Cay Beach Cabanas, found on South Beach, North Beach and Bimini Beach, are the most affordable on the island at $250 for the day. They've got walls on three sides, and they're outfitted with cushioned couches. They include the basic amenities mentioned above, and anyone can rent them.

Next up are the Ocean View Yacht Club Cabanas, which cost $400 for the day and also entitle you to free lunch and drinks, as well as fresh fruit skewers, four sets of snorkel gear and four floating mats. They're found on the Yacht Club's private Ocean House Beach, so they're off-limits to non-Yacht Club guests.

msc cruise ships with yacht club

The most expensive, however, are the Beachfront Yacht Club Cabanas, located in a different section of the Ocean House area. They carry a $450 price tag but offer all the same extras as Ocean View Yacht Club Cabanas.

The draw? They're closer to the water and, therefore, have better views. Although they aren't on the main part of Ocean House Beach, they are still in the exclusive area, near the restaurant, so you don't have to go far to grab food.

Ultimately, the only thing being in the Yacht Club affords you in this case is the option to book more expensive cabanas.

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club trams vs. regular trams

msc cruise ships with yacht club

At 95 acres, Ocean Cay is sizable. If you're fit, you can walk from one end to the other in about 15 minutes, but if you don't have great mobility or if you're easily overheated, reaching some of the island's more remote beaches can be difficult on foot. That's why MSC offers tram shuttles.

Passengers in standard cabins will find tram stops with shaded waiting areas throughout the island. However, waits can be long, especially if many other people are also in need of a lift.

Yacht Club cruisers can take advantage of trams exclusively for the Yacht Club. They run between a special tent (with free cold water to sip while you wait) set up just inside the entrance to Ocean Cay and the Ocean House beach and restaurant area.

You can make special requests for stops, which the regular trams usually won't accommodate. For example, you might ask to go straight from the tent to South Beach for a volleyball game without stopping anywhere else first.

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club activities vs. regular activities

msc cruise ships with yacht club

This is the one category where the island's public spaces beat the Ocean House area by a mile. If you're looking for something to do other than eating, drinking or lazing by the beach, you'll have to head back toward the ship because there's not much going on in the exclusive areas.

Everything from massages, lighthouse tours and water sports equipment rentals to beach parties, volleyball games and shore excursions takes place elsewhere. However, perhaps that's by design. The Yacht Club is generally quiet, even on board, and the line likely prefers to keep the raucousness to other locations.

Bottom line

msc cruise ships with yacht club

The MSC Yacht Club experience is more exclusive than the standard one at Ocean Cay, with extras like butler service, dedicated trams, towel service, access to pricier cabanas and a private beach and restaurant with better food and shorter waits.

However, all of the action — shore excursions, pickup volleyball games, beach parties, the lighthouse show — happens in the areas that are accessible to everyone, which significantly levels the playing field.

Additionally, items like specialty coffee, ice cream and for-fee food truck orders cost extra for everyone — even Yacht Club passengers.

Overall, Ocean Cay offers a great day for anyone who enjoys the beach, regardless of cabin type.

This Cruise Life

In January, we sailed on MSC Meraviglia for a 9-night cruise. Each night, we dined at the private Top Sail Restaurant – exclusive to Yacht Club guests. Because food is such an important part of our cruise experience, we captured every dinner menu to share with you.

To make it easier to digest (see what I did there!!), we’ve split the 9 dinners into 3 separate pages, complete with photos of the food. Scroll down to see just how well we ate during the course of our cruise!

MSC Yacht Club – Night One Dinner Menu

For our first dinner in the Yacht Club Top Sail Lounge, we each enjoyed multiple starters and entrées. We both ended our meal with the Tiramisu.

MSC Yacht Club Menus (2024) with Pictures

I got the Nordic Salad and the Fire-Roasted Tomato Cream Soup as my Starters. Because I couldn’t decide on my meal, I got two: the Tortellini Stuffed with Asparagus and Mascarpone Cheese along with the Punjabi Tadka.

msc cruise ships with yacht club

MSC Yacht Club – Night Two Dinner Menu

The second night in the Top Sail Lounge was the Gala Dinner (aka, Formal Night). There were so many wonderful options on the menu, and we, once again, each ordered several appetizers!

msc cruise ships with yacht club

I ordered the Williams Salad and Burgundy Snails (fun fact: escargot is one of my favorite starters). For my entrée, I ordered the Champagne Risotto. While I won’t rehash our Yacht Club Food Review on YouTube here, let’s just say it was one of the best dishes I had in the Yacht Club. I ended my meal with the Crepes Suzette.

MSC Yacht Club – Night Three Dinner Menu

Our third dinner in the Yacht Club’s Top Sail Lounge was no different than our previous nights; we couldn’t decide what to order! So, both Rocky and I each got several appetizers. I stuck with the risotto for my main as I enjoyed it so much the previous night and I finished off with the evening’s featured dessert.

To start, I had the Cream of Argenteuil Asparagus Soup from the “Deliciously Healthy” section of the menu. Side note: I find it kind of funny that the Deliciously Healthy section is placed directly under the full Desserts menu. haha

I also enjoyed the fried Asiago Cheese Fritters (definitely not from the Deliciously Healthy section). For my main, I ordered the Truffle Risotto. Again, I don’t want to give too much away, but WOW. This was fantastic; I highly recommend. Finally, for dessert I ordered the Cherries Jubilee which was flambéed by the maître d’. Extra points for both presentation and flavor. Once again, another highly recommended dish.

Celebrity Retreat vs MSC Yacht Club - reviews?

I've sailed Celebrity Retreat several times but was wondering how MSC's Yacht Club compares. Does anyone have any reviews for me?

If you go into MSC, you'll find lots and lots of YC reviews.

Funny, I just mentioned MSC to my wife during lunch today. Yacht Club is now firmly on my radar screen and I'm also curious how it compares to Retreat.

Here's one tip. MSC's frequent cruiser program is not that generous, but they do offer a status match from hotels and other cruise loyalty programs. My Azamara status, obtained via only Celebrity cruises, matched to MSC's highest tier, where my Celebrity status wouldn't have. I just did the match yesterday. It only took them a few hours and I'm Diamond!

Thanks

Hi, GenerationX, who is on Celebrity now and currently posting her trip, will be on MSC in YC right after her current cruise and doing a comparison review.

I'm also looking forward to her Comparison but will definitely enjoy her Celebrity RS experience first.

We have celebrity retreat several times including very recently on Beyond and also Edge , in general I give a edge to MSc yacht club, love the truly ship within a ship , on yacht club all your cabins , restaurants and bars are in this area you can’t enter without being in a yacht club cabin, the inside suite lounge is beautiful and much larger and nicer than celebrity with a baby grand piano and live music from about 5 to 11 , there will be a solo artist or a duo playing that whole time. Also loved the outdoor area with pools and hot tubs never saw a crowd or had any issues getting a chair plus more food options outside including breakfast and lunch . They also match your status and can get a free specialty restaurant if you are elite on celebrity or diamond on rccl. Another plus was there private island has a yacht club area with lots of waiters and they will serve your lunch , had a very nice lobster roll there.

Good to know! I just hit Elite Plus.

I want to do a Thanksgiving cruise this year but not liking the options on Celebrity. I did it last year on a ship without a Retreat deck and I won't make that mistake again. Way too peopley.

Outdoor retreat is a joke except for edge class. Yacht club has inside cabins also , basic balcony cabin is a little smaller than edge class sky suites. Yacht club also gives veterans a ten percent discount.

CC Elite and Elite Plus match to Gold on MSC. I am Elite on X but Discoverer on Azamara because of all my Celebrity cruises (never sailed Azamara). Discoverer got me Diamond on MSC.

I wouldn't bother. I did two cruises on two different MSC ships in Yacht Club. While the YC space itself is definitely better than the Retreat (all contained in one area, indoor and outdoor food venues, large indoor bar) the food was largely terrible and vastly inferior to Celebrity and the service was very uneven with some of the worst staff members I've ever encountered in cruising; we had to have one of our butlers replaced for being surly, bartenders and servers didn't recognize basic cocktails, we saw several instances of staff members verbally abusing other staff members. And once you leave the YC, while the MSC ships are very nice they are very crowded with a pretty rowdy crowd. It was basically a European version of NCL except that NCL has better food and service in The Haven. I couldn't wait to get back to Celebrity after trying MSC.

Thanks I do value your opinion. I’d be more concerned with MSC’s food if I didn’t think Celebrity’s food has become vastly inferior to it’s own offerings from just last year. I am considering a low effort sailing out of Brooklyn as I live a short drive away just to try the product.

If you can get a price that is significantly less than Celebrity then maybe try it out. Wasn't my cup of tea but some others here seem to like it. The specialty restaurants were pretty good although still not as good as Celebrity but much better than the YC dining room.

talljules1

We've done both - and doing both again this year.

They are quite different from each other. MSC does the ship within a ship concept much better. The YC lounge is larger than the retreat lounge on S-class ships. We've had good service in both. The food in YC on Preziosa was perhaps not as quite as good as on Celebrity, but it was fine in the YC and we enjoyed it. Perhaps the difference is that outside of the YC, as others have said, the ship is more crowded and rowdy. We vowed we wouldn't sail MSC outside the YC - non YC MSC doesn't compare to non-retreat X.

We've met lovely people on both lines (and that's important to us).

A Deluxe balcony stateroom in YC on Virtuosa is about the same size as a sky suite (but has a shower rather than bath, but also has a walk in wardrobe), and unlike the sky suite, comes with an included minibar and a bottle of spirits and daily newspapers. We will miss the laundry that would come with our Elite+ status. However, MSC YC is MUCH cheaper than the Retreat, so it doesn't matter.  You get premium drinks, wifi and gratuities included in both retreat and YC. We compared a week in the retreat with a fortnight in YC, and MSC was still cheaper - it also has a great itinerary. So, we're sailing MSC YC in the Summer to Iceland and Norway.

Love, love, love MSC YC and personally feel as though they have Celebrity beat in amenities and value. Having said that, if I had to cruise outside of a suite category, I’d definitely go with celebrity where there seems to be less of a class division as it relates to service and amenities.

islabahia

We have a few more cruises on X this year and will be trying Yacht Club on MSC.  Prices for a Deluxe Veranda in the YC are outstanding compared to a SkySuite which was s ridiculously overpriced.

On a whim, I just priced 2 different 7-night Norwegian Fjord cruises in August 2024. Apex in an S2 and the brand new MSC Euribia in a YC balcony cabin. Very similar itineraries embarking 1 day apart. It was $10,400 (which comes with $600 OBC) for Apex and $6,300 for Euribia (before including any 5% discounts for Voyagers Club and early booking). I'll be reading the live from MSC YC thread by @GenerationX very closely.

Would Zenith also match at Gold or a different level?

Zenith matches to top tier Diamond. You would need to sail MSC at least once every 3 years to maintain the status and matching is a one time courtesy. So time your match accordingly.

Great Review

I can confirm that Zenith matches to Diamond.  I did the status match last week.  Note that when you book an MSC cruise using your Voyager Number, you do get a discounted rate (as opposed to Celebrity who does not offer discounted rates for Zenith members).  So definitely do that status match (some have reported that they had difficulty doing this via the MSC website but keep at it if it gives you trouble!  I am lucky I guess because I had no trouble - and I did the status match for myself and my two cruise buddies)

I love leaving out of New York either Manhattan or Brooklyn since we visit there every year it saves us a lot on airfare. We are sailing celebrity again in 2 months if Luminae continues to decline we will be happy to go back to yacht club, MSc gives us a ten percent discount since I am a vet . Also I got a much better price on rccl this November and we can easily add UDP like we did last cruise and still way cheaper in a grand suite bs the smaller sky suite.

My cruise calendar is booked up for 2023. A Southern Caribbean itinerary in a RS on Millennium in March (that was booked before X went insane with Retreat prices) and a regular balcony cabin on Summit's Greenland/Iceland cruise in August. Celebrity wants $800pp/pn for a SS for this cruise. The Retreat product just isn't worth that price. I nearly booked Oceania instead, but the X itinerary is better.

All that to say, I'm looking at probably March 2024 for MSC YC to the Bahamas on Merviglia. I hate that it's so far off, but it is what it is. My wife and I both matched to MSC Diamond in anticipation of booking. I look forward to trying out the product.

What really surprised us was the music in suite lounge from approx 5pm to 11, a few small combos or solo acts would continuously play , it also had a baby grand . Celebrity disappointed me when they removed the piano from Michaels when they changed it to retreat .

Thanks --- time will tell.   Charla's experience left me on the boarder.    Not sure the Mega's ships are our forte even in the Yacht Club.   Time will tell.  Our first non-Celebrity cruise will be on Ponant (ultra small ships).

I agree with you, George C.  Pre-Covid, the Retreat Lounge (formerly Michael's Club) had solo or duo musicians playing in there from about 5pm to 7:00/7:30 pm, but post covid, there has been zero live entertainment.  Now it is just 3 flat screen TV's for "entertainment": zero comparison.

Why the ship-within-a-ship cruising experience can change your mind about cruising

Cruising isn't for everyone but this type of experience might be

Erica Lamberg

According to the Cruise Lines International Association, cruise demand is soaring, particularly because of the value that this type of vacation offers travelers. Typically, your cruise fare includes your cabin, onboard entertainment, dining in specific venues, and use of the ship’s facilities, such as the pool, the gym, and more.

For a more elevated cruise experience , discerning travelers may want to consider upgrading their vacation by booking a cabin or suite in a private enclave of staterooms that are separate from the rest of the ship and offers these fortunate guests a private lounge, dedicated restaurant, private pool area and sun deck, concierge services, and onboard perks like specialty dining, priority embarkation, and luxuries at every turn.

All these perks and upgrades do come at a cost, which can be about double what you’d pay for a stateroom outside this private area on the ship. Is it worth spending double? The answer is a resounding ‘yes’ and here’s why.

Your area is passkey-protected

Splurging on a stateroom within the private enclave will be evident from the moment you arrive on board. You’re welcomed by the dedicated team and introduced to your butler, who makes every wish come true. Once you swipe your keycard or flash your cruise bracelet to the electronic panel at the entrance of the enclave, your dreamy cruise begins. The ship’s other guests can’t enter the area, and this keeps the space intimate, upscale and free from boisterous crowds, unruly children, and lines and lines of cruise passengers.

Food and drinks are superior

In the Retreat on Celebrity Cruises, for example, among the perks you’ll get are a stocked mini bar in your cabin or suite, an included premium drink package, knowledgeable wine experts, in-suite breakfast, lunch, dinner service, and daily delights, an afternoon tea event hosted in The Retreat Lounge or Michael’s Club, and specialty dining privileges. Celerity, along with private enclaves like Haven or Norwegian Cruise Line and the Yacht Club on MSC Cruises, also has a dedicated restaurant for enclave guests and similar amenities.

MSC Seashore

Enjoy pool decks without crowds

There’s no need to set your phone alarm for 6 am to rush to the pool deck to save chairs or find a place to capture shade. As a lucky guest of a ship-within-a-ship category, you have a private sun deck and pool area where you can leisurely arrive and there’s plenty of space for you and your travel companions. Pool attendants bring you towels and fetch drinks from a private bar, and you can truly revel in a relaxing experience beyond the main deck crowds. For example, when I stayed in a cabin in The Haven on Norwegian Prima, Haven attendants brought cold towels and fresh fruit. There are also private hot tubs and plenty of shady areas for those who wish to avoid the sun. The private pool deck is an ideal destination to read, doze or enjoy a cocktail.

Experience VIP service at every turn

When I sailed MSC and stayed in the Yacht Club , I experienced priority reservation times, premium seating and the luxury of a personal butler to escort me to my specialty restaurants and entertainment. I also boarded the ship as soon as I arrived at the port, and disembarked without having to wait in line. If you like to feel like a VIP, then book a stateroom or suite in the private-tier category.

A beautiful private lounge

One of the best reasons to book a ship-within-a-ship category is the private lounge, which is a space you will visit several times a day. The staff there is attentive and takes pride in exceeding your expectations in every way. For instance, when I sailed MSC Seashore earlier this year, the private lounge was a wonderful place to listen to live music, enjoy tidbits of food, grab a glass of wine at the private bar and gaze at the ocean from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Likewise, in the Retreat lounge on Celebrity or The Haven lounge on Norwegian ships, you can relax with a book, grab a cocktail with a friend, or enjoy a sampling of food items that are presented several times per day. Speak to your travel advisor to find a ship that meets all of your wish-list requirements.

With all of these outstanding perks and special amenities, the value offered by a stay in The Retreat, The Haven or the Yacht Club is evident. But understand what you’re starting: once you book in this elevated enclave, you will never want to go back to the standard cruise experience.

MSC Seashore

What cruise lines offer a ship-within-a-ship experience?

The Haven on Norwegian Cruise Line

Currently, the Haven is available on these ships: Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Jade, Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Prima, Norwegian Viva, Norwegian Aqua (when she debuts in 2025).

Tucked at the top select NCL ships, The Haven by Norwegian gives access to all the ship has to offer, but privileged perks include a concierge and 24-hour butler throughout their entire stay. There’s also the benefit of privacy. The Haven has a private pool, sundeck, and hot tubs. Haven attendants will ensure you have fresh fruit, drinks and cold towels throughout your stay.

The Yacht Club on MSC Cruises

Currently, the Yacht Club is available on these MSC ships: MSC Bellissima, MSC Divina, MSC Euribia, MSC Fantasia, MSC Grandiosa, MSC Meraviglia, MSC Preziosa, MSC Seascape, MSC Seashore, MSC Seaside, MSC Seaview, MSC Splendida, MSC Virtuosa, MSC World Europa, MSC World America (when she debuts in 2025).

The Yacht Club is a private and exclusive space that is keycode-protected on MSC ships. The benefits of this upscale category begin when you board the ship with priority embarkation. The category’s personalized benefits include butler and concierge services and an exclusive lounge, restaurant, sundeck, and pool. Guests also enjoy a premium drink package and premium Wi-Fi. Your butler can also escort you to shows and specialty restaurants and tend to your stateroom needs 24/7. Once you sail in the Yacht Club, it will surely be the only way to sail.

Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.

7 best Bermuda cruises for 2024 and beyond

T hose who live in the Northeast have long known the lure of cruising to Bermuda. Word is out that, like cruises to the Bahamas or the Caribbean , many cruise lines offer both long and short cruises that include a stop in Bermuda. Cruise lines are deploying some of their best ships to serve these routes — sometimes even their newest.

And what's not to love about Bermuda? The archipelago encompasses a mere 21 square miles. Six main islands are connected by bridges, and all are encircled by pink sand beaches, coral reefs with genuine shipwrecks waiting for divers and even snorkelers to explore and surprisingly warm turquoise water, considering Bermuda's subtropical location in the North Atlantic.

Many Bermuda itineraries include an overnight stay in port, providing greater flexibility for on-island activities than the few hours you typically get at other ports of call. It's easy to book an excursion independent of the ship when you know there's little risk of being left behind by an afternoon or evening departure. There are multiple beaches, restaurants and bars that you might never have the time to visit on a shorter stay.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Many dedicated Bermuda cruises (those with Bermuda as their primary destination) leave from East Coast port cities like New York, Baltimore and Boston. Mainstream lines like Carnival Cruise Line , Royal Caribbean , Norwegian Cruise Line , MSC Cruises and Celebrity Cruises operate Bermuda cruises. The Bermuda cruise season for most of these lines typically runs from early May to well into October, with a few outliers stretching the season all the way to the December holidays.

You'll also find nondedicated cruises that stop in Bermuda as part of the Caribbean, the Bahamas or repositioning cruises.

We rounded up some of our favorite Bermuda itineraries that depart from the East Coast and offer something for every type of traveler. Whether you've cruised to Bermuda in the past or not, these are all worth considering.

6-, 7- or 14-night Bermuda cruise on MSC Meraviglia

Meraviglia offers a multiple-choice array of Bermuda cruises, all sailing from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in New York City's Red Hook neighborhood.

The 5,714-passenger vessel is fully loaded with a water park and a high-tech mall-like promenade with an LED-illuminated ceiling. Guests looking for a more luxurious cruise can book a cabin in the MSC Yacht Club, which provides exclusive ship-within-a-ship amenities like a private pool and a lounge area.

Meraviglia's six- and seven-night Bermuda cruises include two nights docked in King's Wharf on the southern portion of the Royal Naval Dockyard, where most Bermuda cruises dock. This allows guests ample time to fully explore the island's nautical history at museums in Hamilton or to eat and drink their way through a few British pubs. The six-night sailing includes two sea days, while the seven-night cruises have three.

The 14-night cruises pair a six- or seven-night itinerary with either a cruise north to Canada and New England or one bound for the Bahamas. The southern version includes a stop at MSC's Ocean Cay Marine Reserve private island with its spa treatments at the beach, cabana rentals and even late evening stays at the island, complete with beach bonfires and stargazing. MSC only operates these routes late in the season, in August and September.

Who should go : Fans of Big ships will be at home on Meraviglia. It's among the largest ships currently cruising to Bermuda, offering the full megaship experience. The cruise itineraries offered on Meraviglia are for anyone looking for almost three full days in port in Bermuda and the ability to take advantage of an add-on itinerary that goes elsewhere. Even booking back-to-back cruises on most other lines only gets you two cruises to Bermuda, not a completely different itinerary as MSC offers.

9-night Bermuda and Perfect Day cruise on Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas

This sailing might be an ideal cruise for honeymooners or couples of all ages. The itinerary pairs an overnight stay at King's Wharf with a trip to the Bahamas that includes Royal Caribbean's private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay .

Vision of the Seas is an intimate ship by Royal Caribbean standards, carrying just over 2,000 passengers. However, it's not light on Royal Caribbean-style fun, so expect a full array of stage shows and dance parties. There are a rock climbing wall and an adults-only Solarium pool, and dining choices include Giovanni's Table and the line's famous Chops Steakhouse.

The cruise includes a total of four sea days (because you know you need a vacation from your vacation), 23 hours in port in Bermuda and a stop in Nassau in the Bahamas, with a wrap-up at CocoCay for even more beach time. It's a boatload of fun bundled into one package.

The ship is currently listed as sailing from Baltimore, but guests are advised directly of alternate port accommodations for their specific sailings.

Who should go : This is not a "quick escape" cruise. It's a big cruise, perfect for an extended break from the world. While there are activities for kids on board, it's a ship adults are more likely to enjoy — large enough to stay entertained but small enough to allow some quiet space on those long days at sea. In addition to ocean view and interior cabins, the ship has 229 balcony cabins and 97 suites, giving everyone plenty of options.

4-night Bermuda cruise from Manhattan on Carnival Venezia

Carnival Venezia offers the perfect opportunity to spend a night or three in New York City and then easily hop on a ship bound for Bermuda. You'll get an initial sea day to recoup from your whirlwind visit to the Big Apple, followed by a beachy day in port at King's Harbor and a final day at sea to enjoy all the ship offers.

Venezia carries just over 4,000 passengers at double occupancy. It was originally owned by Italy-based Costa Cruises, joining the Carnival fleet in 2023. (Carnival Corporation is the parent company of both Costa and Carnival.) It's a bit of a hybrid. The vessel underwent an overhaul to add many of Carnival's signature venues but kept some of the original Costa-aligned design. You'll get all the Carnival fun surrounded by elegant Italian decor — specifically, Venetian decor with light colors accented by lots of gold and glass. There's even a faux canal and a full-size gondola in the main dining room. The theme carries through right to the wall coverings and art in the cabins.

The ship features two pools (including one with a retractable roof in case the weather isn't cooperating), a water park and an adults-only Serenity sundeck area with two whirlpool spas. In place of the exclusive Havana areas found on some Carnival ships, the Terrazza Carnevale area features a private sundeck and whirlpools for use only by guests staying in Terrazza cabins.

Who should go : Carnival Venezia's short itinerary makes it ideal for a New York City/Bermuda combo trip. The ship works well for families or groups of adults traveling together, with plenty of activities around the clock for all ages. The ship has an abundance of budget-friendly interior and ocean-view cabins. However, with fewer than 1,000 balcony rooms and only 20 suites, guests looking for those options should book early because Carnival runs a rather short Bermuda season between late May and the end of September. Also, look for six- and seven-night options at the end of the season.

If you're looking for a bit more time in Bermuda but can't devote a whole week, this may be your cruise. Sailing from the Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, New Jersey, means you don't even have to go into Manhattan if you don't care to explore the city. Five nights is a nice length for an escape cruise — just enough time to explore Bermuda and two full days at sea enjoying all the goodies on board the ship.

Liberty of the Seas is a workhorse in the Royal Caribbean fleet, featuring something designed to please every age or type of cruiser. It's outfitted with the line's iconic top-deck waterslides and FlowRider surf simulator. It also features an ice rink, parades in the massive interior promenade and even a pickleball court. The ship has an adults-only solarium if you're looking for a quiet zone. There are more specialty eateries than you're likely to be able to try out in five days, including the line's elegant Chef's Table experience.

Who should go : The ship is fantastic for anyone looking for a quick escape. A multigenerational family reunion, perhaps? There are enough cabin choices to please family members in the group with different sizes and budget needs. Liberty of the Seas is also a good choice for suite lovers. There are 120 suites on board, including a four-bedroom Family Villa and a handful of two-bedroom Family Grand suites.

7-night multiport Bermuda cruise on Oceania Insignia

For a completely different Bermuda cruise, Oceania Cruises has a couple of Bermuda cruises from Manhattan that include two overnights in the capital city of Hamilton before moving to the lesser-known port of St. George. A bonus port of call is in Newport, Rhode Island. Having the ship positioned somewhere other than King's Wharf cruise port gives passengers easy access to shopping and dining in Hamilton and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of St. Catherine's Fort in St. George without either an hourlong bus ride or a ferry crossing. Oceania doesn't always cruise from U.S. ports, so when it does, you can often save big simply by not having international airfare to worry about.

Unlike the larger ships in the above-mentioned itineraries, Insignia only carries 670 passengers. Oceania offers luxurious accommodations and food that is some of the best at sea. Cabin categories are similar to mainstream lines, ranging from interior and ocean-view rooms to balcony cabins and suites. In most categories, you can expect slightly larger rooms than you'd find on a mainstream line. Special offer pricing typically includes Wi-Fi, some shore excursion credit and a house beverage package.

Who should go : Oceania cruises provide more of an adult-focused environment than most of the other lines. It offers regular cruises to Bermuda, making this an ideal cruise for seniors or adults escaping the kids and grands. Single travelers looking for an upscale cruise will find what they are looking for in Insignia's solo cabins.

5- and 7-night new ship Bermuda cruise on Norwegian Aqua

Norwegian Cruise Line offers a longer Bermuda season than most other mainstream lines, often sailing five- and seven-night itineraries from both Manhattan and Boston nine months of the year. Look for Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Joy in 2024, Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Jewel in 2025 and Norwegian Breakaway in 2026. Those are great choices, but we zoomed in on this opportunity to preview a shiny new ship in August and September of 2025, when the newest Prima Class ship, Norwegian Aqua, sails to Bermuda for a brief run.

The five-night cruises dock at the Royal Naval Dockyard overnight. The seven-night itineraries offer two nights and almost three full days in port.

Aqua is expected to be larger than earlier Prima Class ships, carrying roughly 3,500 passengers. Norwegian is particularly good at squeezing megaship attractions into slightly smaller ships than the newly built ships of its competitors like Royal Caribbean or MSC, which have ships that carry closer to 6,000 passengers. Expect to experience the world's first hybrid roller coaster and waterslide, the Aqua Slidecoaster, three infinity pools and four infinity hot tubs, plus Norwegian's ship-within-a-ship suite category called The Haven, which comes with perks like a 24-hour butler and a private sundeck, pool and lounge.

Who should go : New ship lovers and NCL aficionados will likely flock to Manhattan to enjoy an early look at Aqua. Cruises to Bermuda on any Norwegian ship mean not only a fabulous time in port exploring Bermuda but fun of all sorts on board the ship. This could be an ideal cruise for those who've already experienced Bermuda and can spend every minute enjoying the new ship.

7-night Bermuda cruise on Celebrity Eclipse or Celebrity Silhouette

Celebrity Cruises offers a big-ship experience for those looking for fewer waterslides and frenetic fun. That doesn't mean there won't be children on board, though, as Celebrity offers activities for kids and teens of all ages. What Celebrity does best is provide spaces and activities designed with vacationing adults in mind.

The cruises depart from Bayonne, New Jersey, and include three sea days and three full days in Bermuda. With two nights docked at King's Wharf, it's plenty of time to explore Bermuda your way and enjoy the ship on the way there and back. Eclipse and Silhouette are sister ships in Celebrity's Solstice Class, each carrying fewer than 3,000 guests. They are elegant in design, with features you won't find on any other ship at sea. Eclipse offers a Hot Glass Studio where you can make your own glass souvenir. The upper decks of both ships feature real grass lawns, hosting boccie tournaments. Guests can reserve cabanas on the lawn or lounge in giant beanbags in the grass, watching movies on a big screen.

Both ships feature an adults-only Solarium, a gelateria and multiple specialty dining options, and almost 50% of the cabins have verandas. With nooks like The Hideaway near the elevator banks on Decks 7 and 8, the outdoor promenade on Deck 5, plus a forward-facing relaxation lounge and the Spa Verandah on Decks 11 and 12, respectively, Celebrity seems to have mastered the art of providing spaces to escape the masses.

Who should go : This cruise is a sure bet for couples who either already love Bermuda or are eager to become better acquainted with it, thanks to the extended port visit. Golfers and scuba divers can delight in three full days spent on their pastimes. There are multiple dive shops in Bermuda, offering boat dives and guided shore dives, along with gear rental. Golfers have their pick of seven world-class courses, some with club rentals. This is not a cruise for those who seek a new port every day.

Bonus: Other Bermuda cruises to consider

If you don't mind a short port call in Bermuda instead of a night or two stay, a few itineraries can accommodate you. Some transatlantic sailings to and from Northern Europe or the Mediterranean stop in Bermuda. Examples include Celebrity Apex transitioning from Southampton, England, to Fort Lauderdale on a 12-night itinerary that includes Bermuda and Regent Seven Seas Mariner from Barcelona to Miami on a 14-night cruise.

Norwegian Prima has a whopper of a holiday cruise that stops in Bermuda. It's a 12-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary round-trip from Manhattan with a one-day stop in Bermuda with six other ports of call, including St. Kitts, St. Thomas and Tortola. If you'd like someone else to do all the cooking during the holidays, this would be a fun cruise to consider.

There are several one-hit Bermuda wonders to consider, including sailings on Windstar Cruises , Regent Seven Seas Cruises , Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours and Silversea Cruises . All of these are ideal for luxury cruisers wanting to add Bermuda to their list of ports of call. Most are point-to-point sailings, with the exception of Regent Seven Seas, which offers a round-trip from Miami.

Bottom line

Bermuda is one of the few beachy cruise destinations where staying in port overnight is the norm. The lack of an end-of-day time crunch makes cruising there an attractive and relaxing proposition for many, especially those who live on the East Coast.

You can enjoy a weeklong vacation or escape for as little as four nights. Try a new cruise line or try a different itinerary on your favorite ship. Combine your cruise with a visit to the Big Apple. Any way you want to do it, there is a Bermuda cruise to fit your style.

Have you tried snuba? This cruise line's private island offers a unique experience

Portrait of Nathan Diller

  • Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is a private island in the Bahamas owned by MSC Cruises.
  • The island was the site of industrial mining of aragonite sand before it was abandoned.
  • MSC is restoring the island and has planted 75,000 plants and shrubs and 5,000 trees and palms.

Climate change is drastically impacting the world around us, including the way people travel and the destinations themselves. “Green Travel” is a seven-part series delving into how climate change is transforming the landscape of travel. Kimberly Semien knows how to seize a beach day. The 47-year-old lives far from the sea in Moore, Oklahoma, so when she visited Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in the Bahamas in May, she made the most of it.

Semien, who was on a week-long MSC Cruises sailing with her husband Phillip, spent the day reading under an umbrella, taking naps on the beach and swimming. “This water was crystal clear,” she said. “Like, I could see all the way down to my feet and tell what color my nail polish was.”

She appreciated the simplicity of the destination, which is devoid of the thrill rides and big water slides some other cruise line private islands have. “I could go to ( Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Oklahoma City ) or Frontier City and do the other stuff, but having the ocean, that's something we don't have here, so I take advantage of that,” said Semien, who works as an electric company switchboard operator.

The focus on nature is intentional. “We don't have huge theme parks, we don't have water parks,” said Ocean Cay Managing Director Andrew Brett. “We're all about the natural beach day experience.” But there’s more to the 103-acre island than what passengers might see at first glance.

Ocean Cay is also the site of scientific work aimed at addressing the impacts of climate change on marine habitats. The island is ramping up educational opportunities for guests in the coming months, offering more than just fun in the sand and sun.

"Sustainable tourism is the way to go," said Brett. It's the future, and I think it's what consumers and our guests want."

Hawaii's beaches are disappearing: The uncertain future of Oahu's iconic Waikiki

How is MSC restoring Ocean Cay?

The island was the site of industrial mining of aragonite sand before it was abandoned. MSC signed a long-term lease on the island in 2015, with the agreement they would uphold conservation work, and began cleaning it up. The company removed over 7,000 tons of scrap metal and moved 400 hard coral colonies from debris on the ocean bed to a place where they could grow.

The Bahamian government designated Ocean Cay and the surrounding waters a marine reserve in 2020.

Restoring coral reefs at the site is a key focus for the MSC Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the MSC Group, which owns MSC Cruises. Through its Super Coral program, the foundation is growing critically endangered coral to be outplanted within a 64-square-mile area surrounding the island.

“According to conservation scientists, the key to reversing the rapid decline in coral reefs lies in assisting coral’s natural selection process by establishing certain hardy species and varieties, dubbed ‘Super Coral’, which are more resilient to severe environmental stresses like extreme heat,” the foundation’s website reads.

Marine heat waves caused mass coral bleaching – a sign of stress – and die-offs in the Florida Keys and the Caribbean in 2023. Many of the reefs at Ocean Cay were impacted but have remained “very healthy” overall, according to Dr. Owen O’Shea, Marine Research Program Manager at the foundation.

Those events also provide useful intel. “Essentially, we monitor the reefs here and look for signs of bleaching, disease and increased mortality as part of our holistic marine management, so when we see a reef that has experienced significant bleaching and yet there remains colonies of seemingly healthy and living corals despite what the overall reef has experienced, we then source fragments from these surviving colonies.”

The island’s nursery corals experienced bleaching as well, but 100% survived. “This is evidence – albeit anecdotal – that our selection process for nursery specimens is valid and that our proof of concept is working, that is, selecting for those genotypes that may be exhibiting a greater (adaptation) to increased water temperature,” he said.

MSC also planted 75,000 plants and shrubs and 5,000 trees and palms, 95% of which are native to the Caribbean, in an effort to create a “natural infrastructure,” he added. Native plants can help conserve water, prevent erosion and provide food and shelter for animals.

The team has seen birds return to the island and turtles come back to nest.

“So I think nature is also vindicating that what MSC has done is sustainable in the long term,” O’Shea said.

Last year, marine conservation nonprofit Mission Blue – led by oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle – named Ocean Cay a "Hope Spot," a site deemed critical to the ocean’s health. “This recognizes its comprehensive restoration efforts and commitment to protecting marine biodiversity,” Earle said in a video announcement .

What can guests do at Ocean Cay?

MSC largely lets nature do the talking at Ocean Cay, with many activities taking place in or near the water. Visitors can go snorkeling, paddleboarding and kayaking, or play beach soccer and volleyball. Guests can climb a lighthouse that offers sweeping views and a light show at night. Ships stay at Ocean Cay from at least early morning through sunset, and often overnight.

Of course, relaxing beach days are also on the menu, with cabana rentals and loungers available. Guests can also snack on Bahamian cuisine, sip drinks, and visit an on-site shopping village.

Semien and her husband spent their day in an area exclusive to guests of the Yacht Club, MSC’s ship-within-a-ship concept . They also had access to a private restaurant.

O'Shea noted that the island's walking pathways were also designed to steer people away from sensitive areas so that vacations and conservation efforts could coexist.

What's coming to Ocean Cay? 'We all have a piece to play'

MSC plans to further integrate those in the coming months. A marine conservation center on Ocean Cay will host both working scientists and students, and educational opportunities for guests, with pavilions, coral exhibition tanks and a lecture hall. The facility is expected to be accessible to cruise passengers in March 2025.

While many current tours take place in the water, guests will be able to take a new land-based tour and hear about the island’s transformation, see wildlife like iguanas, pelicans and egrets, and learn about the marine ecosystem beginning later this month (the tour will incorporate a visit to the conservation center upon its completion). Snuba – a cross between scuba diving and snorkeling that doesn’t require certification – will also allow visitors to see corals that are deeper underwater starting in mid-September.

MSC has taken other steps to minimize Ocean Cay’s carbon footprint, such as barring single-use plastics from the island and utilizing mostly solar power. The company added a third solar farm this year as part of enhancements.

And while sustainability is still a work in progress for the cruise industry, including MSC, only the line’s newer, more energy-efficient ships stop at the destination.

When guests visit the management building on the island, Brett said he relishes sharing the details of those efforts with them “and how we all have a piece to play in replenishing the natural world and the environment that we take so much from.”
