When in the South, brunch is not only popular but quite possibly a requirement. After a night out in Savannah, nothing compares to sitting at brunch overlooking the squares with water, coffee, and a bloody mary. While tourists and locals descend on Savannah for its history and beauty, the culinary experience is starting to become the main event rather than an afterthought. Here’s where to brunch in Savannah.

Rhett is housed on the ground floor in the upscale Alida Hotel. Rhett’s brunch is offered Monday to Sunday in case brunching on the weekend just isn’t enough. Menu items range from classics like the shrimp and grits to the over-the-top Rhett burger. Bellini and mimosa brunch cocktails are available in addition to the new bloody mary bar with six available variations for those looking to spice up their morning.

9 Best Brunch Places in Savannah

Image may contain Restaurant Cafeteria Furniture Chair Cafe and Wood

Brunch can be an uninspiring affair, but luckily Savannah's thriving culinary scene means that there are plenty of options to get you out of your comfort zone. Its position as a world port means there's a wealth of international influences at play, from France to Cuba to Australia. Mix this with the solid, brunch-friendly traditions of Southern cooking and you've got a list of brunch spots with creative, original menu choices that take you well beyond your usual omelettes and Eggs Benedict. Here, our editor's picks for Savannah's best brunches—for when you're wondering where to start.

The Collins Quarter Savannah Restaurant

The Collins Quarter Arrow

As a port town, Savannah has a wealth of international influences that have permeated its dining scene, and one of the farthest flung is Collins Quarter, a modern, Melbourne -style cafe. Tall ceilings and large windows give the dining room a good amount of light during the day, when it functions as a bustling coffee shop and all-day brunch spot. At night it transforms into a candlelit brasserie. But the brekkie is what you're here for: a tasty breakfast sandwich with tangy bacon jam, bananas Foster French toast, and short rib hash.

Default

Fork & Dagger Arrow

Fork and Dagger Eatery, a 30-seat diner just a couple of blocks from Forsyth Park, has a distinct lack of pretension. Influences from New York City , Cuba, and the South combine into a comforting brunch menu that’s hard to beat. A firm favorite is the delectable Pig and Grits, home-made slow-cooked pork with creamy cheese grits topped with a perfect fried egg. The bagels are flown in from the Bronx, and the French toast drips with melted butter and maple syrup.

Image may contain Burger Food Cutlery Spoon Pottery Coffee Cup and Cup

Café M Arrow

Cafe M is in a plum location on the Savannah River, but you could almost imagine it's the Seine. Brunch is divided into three sections: Parisian, American, and Healthy. Parisian comes with the much-celebrated French bread and pastries, served with Bon Maman preserves. American consists of hot options like scrambled eggs with cheese, ham, turkey, and bacon. Healthy features smoked salmon on wheat toast and a bowl of granola. Most restaurants on the riverfront feel a little touristy, but this cafe retains local character, and the brunch options transport you to a lovely Gallic corner of the South.

Olde Pink House Savannah

Olde Pink House Restaurant Arrow

The Olde Pink House serves brunch Tuesday to Saturday. The menu eschews most breakfast dishes for lunchier options like crab beignets (with a tangy lemon sauce) and the spring rolls stuffed with shrimp, crab, and sausage. The mac 'n' cheese jalapeño poppers are a playful addition, as are the pulled pork sliders, and it’s hard not to order the signature dish, the legendary she crab soup. To drink, go for the Pink Lady, the restaurant's signature cocktail, which mixes sweet lemonade with raspberry-infused vodka.

Image may contain Food Cake Dessert Pie Plant and Apple Pie

Back in the Day Arrow

Despite its name, Back In The Day Bakery only dates back to 2002, but it has already established itself as a Savannah landmark . Owners Cheryl and Griff Day (the cafe's real namesake) are James Beard–nominated bakers beloved for their biscuits, which sell out quickly every day. Those buttermilk delights come topped with, say, baked egg and cheddar, ham and gruyere, or house-made jam. There's also a daily-changing selection of pies, cupcakes, muffins, and scones.

Image may contain Furniture Chair Restaurant Cafe Outdoors Patio Cafeteria Plant Arbour and Garden

B. Matthew's Eatery Arrow

B. Matthews Eatery has all the hallmarks of a modern bistro, with exposed brick walls, dark wood, and striking modern art. The shrimp and grits are the real draw here; they're served with green onions, tasso ham, and red-eye gravy. The fried green tomato Benedict is also another welcome deviation from the classics, with the mixed greens and goat cheese on a homemade biscuit delivering a tangy bite. There are regular egg dishes, of course, but among the other standouts are the indulgent salmon avocado toast and the chicken salad sandwich with apples and pecans.

The Ordinary Pub Arrow

The Ordinary Pub is one of the more casual brunch spots in town, but it still feels like a culinary adventure. Dishes will pique the interest of even the most brunch-fatigued crowds. Be sure to order the pork belly donut sliders, a sweet and savory treat that combines sticky bread with slow-cooked pork and a tangy bacon-onion jam. The short rib naan and the salmon and crab bagel are also worth considering. For true decadence, go for the brunch mussels, sautéed in champagne and orange juice.

Image may contain Food Dish Meal and Burger

The Fitzroy Arrow

Industrial aesthetics can feel cliched nowadays, but The Fitzroy's dining room feels subtle and chic, and the ambience reflects a sense of elegance. The usual brunch suspects are joined by a spicy Moroccan scramble with merguez sausages, an Israeli shakshuka with chorizo and roasted potatoes, and an Australian ricotta hotcake with mascarpone and maple syrup. Other unusual options include chicken schnitzel, salmon croquettes, and a crab omelette.

Image may contain Restaurant Cafeteria Furniture Chair Cafe and Wood

Little Duck Diner Arrow

There’s plenty of foot traffic around this busy downtown spot, a large, imposing building on Saint Julian Street that gives way to an inarguably retro scene as you enter the vintage style Little Duck Diner. This is a comforting menu with some pleasing, adventurous options. There are waffles, pancakes, and a comprehensive selection of egg dishes. The vaunted gourmet grilled cheese menu is the big draw, though; gruyere, duck, caramelized onions, and Norwegian smoked salmon are all optional tweaks to this American classic.

What are the vegetarian options on the lunch cruise?

Is the moonlight cruise a decent experience? I've been on a similar "moonlight cruise" in Pittsburgh but instead of romantic and enjoyable it was loud, overloaded with drunks, and sweaty.

I don't think they have a "moonlight cruise" but they do have a sunset cruise that is very nice

We would like to express our utmost satisfaction with the staff at Savannah Riverboat Cruises that we sailed on from 1:00 - 2:30 pm, July 24, 2024. During our visit, my spouse and I had an exceptional experience, characterized by impeccable hospitality. The buffet offered a delightful selection, with the fried chicken and Peach Cobbler standing out as particularly delicious. Furthermore, we found the service provided by Ms. Shydaya to be exceptionally attentive, thorough, and considerate, making her the best waiter we have encountered in a considerable amount of time. In our humble opinion, we wholeheartedly believe that Ms. Shydaya deserves a 5-star rating for delivering unparalleled service. Thank you. Best Regards, Lester & Annette, Jacksonville, FL.

A very low-key and low-impact way to spend a few hours in Savannah, and a decent way to beat walking around in the heat by just taking a seat and letting the Savannah Queen do the work for you. My aunts and I opted to do the sight-seeing only version of the tour. With these tickets, we were seated on the 3rd and 4th decks and this was a great way to see the tour because we were not beholden to a dining table. The 4th deck is open seating and you are free to move about. We also had a view of our MC/Narrator as he paced across the ship while narrating what we were all seeing. There are slushie drinks available with/out alcohol. The metal seats can get HOT in the sun so maybe don't wear shorts, and/or bring a towel or sweatshirt to sit on. The most exciting part of the tour was seeing the cannon ball go off at the war reenactment fort. And, the trombone player who plays at the port while the boat docks at the end of the tour- tip that man- he is amazing! Tickets are $37 pp for the afternoon sightseeing and 55$ pp for a weekday lunch. Overall, I think this is an experience for an older crowd, and not necessarily something I'd take little kids on because of how chill it is.

**Catch of the Day: Terribly Disappointed** I recently experienced the Georgia Queen Dinner Cruise, and I must say, it was a major letdown, especially considering the $100 per person price tag. Firstly, the food was served buffet style, which I initially thought would be a highlight. However, the "catch of the day" was a major disappointment. It turned out to be the thinnest pieces of tilapia you could find. When I hear "catch of the day," I expect something more impressive, like grouper, swordfish, or salmon--not farm-raised tilapia. Moreover, the portions at the buffet were very small, leaving much to be desired. For the price, I expected a more substantial and satisfying meal. Unfortunately, the dining experience fell far short of my expectations. Overall, the Georgia Queen Dinner Cruise did not live up to its promise, and I left feeling terribly disappointed.

Photo of Kelly S.

Cruise overall was ok. I would recommend to a friend, but would warn them about a few things. The cost of the cruise/dinner was a little expensive due to the food being warm/room temp. I understand we could go back and get as much food as we want, but we didn't want to go back for cold food. We paid over $100 per person for the cruise. This only included the cruise and dinner. Alcoholic drinks were extra. I totally understand we were not just paying for a dinner. It costs a lot to run a boat, pay staff and have a band. But, having banquet food and the servers not having to serve you or have food runners to help, this should save a lot of time and energy that can be used in other areas. When we arrived at our table we felt rushed to get our food and we were 40 minutes from leaving the dock. We told them we wanted to wait a while to eat so we could experience our dinner while cruising down the river. We also heard other servers tell their tables to go ahead and start eating. We wanted to have a couple of drinks from the bar and then have our meal. Wouldn't the dinner cruise and their servers make more money, since alcoholic drinks aren't included in the price of dinner? Due to this, the experience of a "dinner cruise" was lacking. We would have loved to have more time to enjoy a drink (or 2) and watch the boat depart, then start our dinner. We could have done this, but kept being reminded that the buffet staff was ready for us each time a server passed us. We were also told we could visit the buffet as many times as we'd like until 8:00p, why the rush? We had almost 2 hours to eat. It really took away the magic of a dinner cruise experience. Overall the food was ok and the buffet staff was fantastic. Our server was good, but busy. Too many tables and having to help make drinks. I know being understaffed is very hard, so no points taken off for that. I felt bad for the servers. This is a great concept. We were excited to be able to have this expertise available to us on our trip to Savannah.

If you manage your expectations and don't take yourself too seriously I believe you will have a good time on the riverboat. For the sunset cruise, I'd recommend taking advantage of the top deck with the best views and purchasing the commemorative cup and photo package. Because there isn't a buffet offered on the sunset cruise, this is a nice activity to do pre-dinner. Unless you are feeding kids (chicken tenders and the like) I wouldn't recommend purchasing food on the boat. There's a DJ and after tourists get a few drinks in them, there is a fun atmosphere with room to dance.

My wife and I were in Savannah for a long weekend vacation and decided to try the riverboat cruise. It was pretty cool, not a lot of stuff to see on the river, but they did have a cannon fire from one of the forts along the banks. The narrator was pretty great and funny in spots. I would give it a shot if you were here on a trip to Savannah.

Photo of Ade B.

I took a Sunday brunch cruise with a friend. I'm generally not a fan of buffets, but this one won me over. I sampled a lot of the food and most of it was top notch. You can't come to Savannah and not try shrimp & grits. I'm not a fan of grits, but it was OK. The breakfast food like the eggs, bacon, sausage, and french toast was all served warm and was all delicious. The fried chicken was outstanding, and I wouldn't expect less in the South. The waitress was very friendly and was working her butt off to serve a large number of people. She brought over sweet tea which had the exact level of sweetness that I like. She also brought over blueberry muffins that were to die for, and cinnamon rolls that were a bit overcooked on the outside but delicious on the inside. After stuffing ourselves with food we were able to go outside and take a seat on the deck. As we watched the scenery go by the captain was on the microphone giving us details about what we were seeing, with a good sense of humor. When we came back in our table had been cleared, but the waitress left my extra muffin covered with a napkin. In my mind I said "YES", because I loved that muffin. We gave her a good tip. If you take one of these cruises do not forget to tip the waitress. I highly recommend the brunch cruise.

Owner: iconic coastal georgia restaurant hit hard by river flooding will remain closed for months.

Love's Seafood has been a staple in the community since it opened back in 1949.

  • Copy Link Copy {copyShortcut} to copy Link copied!

riverboat brunch savannah ga

Love's Seafood & Steaks , located right off Highway 17 south of Savannah, shut down August 9 due to rising water levels from the Ogeechee River caused by flooding from Tropical Storm Debby.

The flooding led to an estimated hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to the iconic restaurant, once featured in the 1994 film 'Forrest Gump.'

"I've been through numerous times of this river being up," said Obadiah Fulton Love Jr., owner of Love's for over 50 years. "I never, never seen it nowhere near like this."

Flooding partially submerged the restaurant in upwards of one and a half feet of dirty river water. It destroyed brand-new hardwood floors and equipment and wasted all of their fresh fish, meat and produce.

riverboat brunch savannah ga

"The people that come in and do the cleanup, they gave us an estimate of about $200,000," said Love.

Aside from the recorded damage, there's a warehouse full of equipment next to the restaurant that hasn't been inspected. That warehouse is just as big as the restaurant.

"I've been here 75 years, (my wife)'s been here 40 years. This is home," said Love, who runs the restaurant with his wife, Donna Love. "It's home not only for me and her, it's home for my son, and home for my grandson. This is home for the whole family."

As a family restaurant, the Loves spend their holidays in the establishment and even work there throughout the year. Even with doors shut, the whole family is still working.

"We feel fortunate. (Donna)'s got two sisters and they're here every time they're not in their regular job. Or, I got one daughter and she comes in, she's got a job, but every morning she's here to help," said Love.

As for donations, Love says there's not much anyone can do to help physically, and the family does not want to start a GoFundMe.

Love believes it will take between three to four months before Love's reopens. However, he tells WJCL 22 News that being there to buy a meal when they reopen is the best way to support them.

"I'd rather them wait, and when we open back up, they come by and buy a meal," said Love. "You know, I'm not against money. Don't get me wrong. But, I'd rather feel like that they thought enough of us and the food we served to come back and buy a meal from us. I'd appreciate that."
