  1. Sadler 29

The boat was absolutely fine but we felt a bit green.' It bears testimony to the Sadler's sea-keeping qualities. She's a cruiser/racer of yesteryear and, I would argue, is all the better for that. Easy to sail, responsive and manoeuvrable, she's a great little family boat as well as a good yacht on which to learn how to sail.

  2. Sadler 29: a versatile all-rounder

For much of this time the Sadler 29 was the best-selling boat in the range. It was the right size at a highly competitive price and had wide appeal. People would often come along to have a look at the 26, only to go away having signed a contract for a Sadler 29: the difference in space was substantial, and available for a relatively modest ...

Visit site. I sail from Porthmadog, North wales, where there are 2 Sadler 29's, both owned by friends. I sailed on one on passage to lochgilphead on the Clyde, approxmately 250 miles, last year in weather where no one else got further than Pwllheli, 10 miles. We completed the trip in 42 hours. Great boat great sail.

  11. Best cruising boats under 30 feet: Is this the ideal size for a yacht?

Martin Sadler told me: "The 29 appeared at the 1981 Earls Court boat show. She was offered with fin or twin keels and the mix was about 60/40 in favour of the latter. "Our demonstration boat had twins and it surprised people how well she sailed [understandable because these twins are shapely, well positioned and draw 3ft 8in].

Have a look at the past 3 issues of PBO as there has been a review of just about all the bilge keel boats on the market from 1960s onwards. For performance the later types of boats (Sadler, Hunter, Moody, later Westerlys such as Merlin, Griffon, Konsort, later Feltham designs such as Cobras) sail better with deeper, better shaped keels.

  21. Sadler 26, be honest!!!

The 26 is an altogether bigger boat with IMHO a better layout. But the 25 sails really well, and is easy to handle. One of our retired club members takes his out single handed almost every day in the season, and anchors for lunch. The 25 can be had for as little as 6k (needing work of course), the 26 are 11-18k. 1.
