Benetti yacht 11.11 is a winner at the 2016 World Superyacht Awards.  She is only the second plumb-bowed boat built by the fabled Italian yard.  This beautiful lady was originally commissioned to look like a Russian Czar’s palace.  Her first owner walked away when the yacht was just 40% complete.  A new owner stepped in to transform the yacht into an award-winning monochromatic masterpiece.  What a fortunate owner!  The current trend is to build yachts with hard, minimalist edges.  This yacht’s main living areas onboard yacht 11.11 offer suppleness and comfort.

CHILD-FRIENDLY HOME, NOT PALACE, ON THE  WATER

The 63m (206.7ft) yacht possesses striking looks with her vertical bow, a feature which enhances the fuel efficiency of this family orientated world cruiser. Her stunning aesthetics follow through into her chic interior, crafted by the owner’s personal design team. Drawing inspiration from the Art Deco period, the designer combined cool beiges, dark browns, whites and creams accented with touchable fabrics and hand crafted one-of-a-kind pieces throughout.

She offers accommodation for 12 guests over six well-appointed cabins, including master and VIP suites. The full-beam VIP suite sits on the main deck whereas the master, which comes complete with its own private deck, plunge pool and sunbathing area, is positioned on the upper deck. Nick Candy is selling his £54m superyacht while he builds a better one

If you’re in the market for a new superyacht , Nick Candy’s whopping number might be just what you’re looking for.

The billionaire property tycoon has announced that his lavish superyacht, named 11.11, is now on the market for 59,500,000 Euros (£53,758,547.50) but you better be quick.

The 63-metre long vessel was built in 2015 by the prestigious Italian yacht builder Benetti and scooped a World Superyacht Award in 2016. Candy expects it to be snapped up quickly after demand for high-spec yachts surged during the pandemic, with the super-rich looking for ways to travel in the most Covid-safe way.

Candy said in a statement,'I've been approached over the last few years to sell it – often by charter guests who after spending one or two weeks on board want to buy it – but I've always said no.

'I'm currently nine months down the line with designs for a new and bigger yacht, so now feels like a good time to sell, especially as there is increasing demand for superyachts which are viewed as a safer alternative to shore-based travel due to their natural isolation and self-sufficiency.'

The new owner will find stunning Art Deco-style interiors inside, designed to be brief by Candy and his wife, former actress and singer, Holly Valance. There’s plenty of space for large groups of friends and family. The VIP suite has its own separate lounge and marble bathroom, while the master suite comes with its own private deck, 180-degree views and jet pool. There’s also a nursery and four further guest cabins.

Days can be spent soaking up the rays from the split-level sundeck, with its large Jacuzzi pool and bar. There’s also an on-board spa with a treatment room and steam room, helipad for ferrying guests, a trampoline and a climbing wall, plus heaps of water toys to keep you busy.

Candy said: 'We have made some amazing memories on board over the past five years. The service level on board 11.11 is like no five-star hotel on the planet.

'The crew have taken service, food, hospitality, and maintenance of a superyacht to a whole new level but it's time to move on and build something new that works for our family and lifestyle in the future.

'I have always had a passion for yachts and get huge enjoyment from the project side of building and designing a boat – it is not dissimilar to building a house or an apartment building.'

She can accommodate up to 14 guests across six cabins including a master suite which sits in pride of place on the upper deck, benefiting from 180-degree views and an entirely private sundeck with a jet pool and sunbathing area that stretches all the way to the bow. The remaining guest accommodation is split between a full-beam main deck VIP with six oversized portrait windows, while two doubles and two convertible twins with additional Pullman berths are found on the lower deck. 11.11 runs with up to 16 crew on board and houses a large main deck galley thanks to her bow design.

Guests benefit from numerous spaces to kick back and relax from her informal skylounge, complete with a custom cocktail bar, to her sprawling sundeck which houses a  Jacuzzi lined with pearlescent mosaic tiles and a spa. Come evening, aperitifs can be enjoyed in the skylounge or main saloon before guests are seated around a backlit onyx dining table.

Other highlights include a touch-and-go helipad on the bow, while 46 underwater lights put on an impressive light show after dark. A large transom garage houses a custom eight-metre Benetti Limo tender - the first tender from the Italian shipyard - as well as a six-metre Novurania RIB and an arsenal of water toys.

11.11 will be attending the Palm Beach International Boat Show later this month. Power comes from a pair of 3512-C Caterpillar engines for a top speed of 17 knots and a range of 5,000 nautical miles at an economic speed.

Superyacht sinks latest: Search for survivors trapped in Bayesian wreckage in 'critical' 24 hours; captain speaks out

The search for six people missing after a superyacht sank in a tornado off Sicily is in its second day.

It's 3.30pm in the UK and 4.30pm in Palermo as search and rescue teams continue to look for survivors of yesterday's tragic incident.

The Italian coastguard believes the six missing tourists - four of whom are British - may still be inside the sunken yacht.

Divers have managed to open a hole in the hull of the Bayesian, according to Italian media, though safely accessing the interior of the ship and exiting again is a complex operation.

Here are the latest developments of the day:

• One man's body has been recovered since the yacht sank, with the Italian Coast Guard identifying him as the boat's chef;
• Some survivors have been discharged from hospital, including Charlotte Golunski, her husband, James Emsley, and their one-year-old baby daughter, Sofia;
• An engineer who led the salvage operation for the wrecked cruise ship Costa Concordia says rescue divers looking for survivors have now entered a "critical" 24 hours;
• The captain of the Bayesian told Italian newspaper La Repubblica that: "We didn't see it coming,";
• Morgan Stanley says it is "deeply shocked and saddened" by the tragedy, with chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, Judy Bloomer, among the missing;
• Mrs Bloomer has been described as a "brilliant champion for women's health" by a charity she works with;
• The law firm Clifford Chance has named a survivor of the disaster as one of its employees, Ayla Ronald;
• The captain of the ship that went to the sinking yacht's aid said the storm that hit the area was "very violent";

The British ambassador to Italy has expressed his "deep sympathy" for those affected.

A similar storm to the one that sunk the Bayesian recently wreaked havoc on Spain's Balearic Islands.

Flights in the area were cancelled and several yachts were driven ashore.

The storms have been caused by warmer than usual temperatures in the Mediterranean Sea.

"With the extreme temperatures we've had this summer, you get these low pressure centres that are moving around off the coast and back down towards Sicily," salvage expert Nick Sloane, who worked on the wreckage of the Costa Concordia cruise ship, told Sky News.

"As they move, you get localised weather conditions. There was another storm that came out of nowhere and hit Ibiza recently, and there were 10 yachts that were driven ashore."

Mr Sloane added the Bayesian might have considered itself safe from the elements due to the sheer size of the 184ft superyacht.

"These storms, these localised tornados, they tumble down the mountainside, and they pick up a lot of velocity, or speed and power," he said.

"And maybe they thought that they were okay, and obviously being quite a large sailboat, they thought that wouldn't be a problem."

The owner of a nearby villa says they have video of the moment the yacht sunk.

They told Italian media that it showed the boat sinking in 60 seconds.

The footage was taken by one of 20 cameras at the house, located 200 metres from the wreckage.

The owner told outlet Giornale Di Sicilia: "You can clearly see what is happening. There was nothing that could be done for the vessel. It disappeared in a very short time."

The public prosecutor's office in Termini Imerese may acquire the video as part of its investigation into the disaster.

Speaking outside the hotel where survivors have been staying in Porticello, Sir Ed Llewellyn said: "My heart goes out to them."

He added: "I've spoken to some of the British survivors both yesterday and today - I want to express my deep sympathy from myself and colleagues at the British embassy for what's happened.

"We're doing what we can to support them in this incredibly sad and difficult situation to help them with contacts from the Italian authorities at a practical level."

You might have heard witnesses use the term waterspout when describing the storm that caused the yacht to sink.

The meteorological term is used to describe a rotating column of air that occurs over a body a water, appearing as a funnel-shaped cloud.

There are two types of waterspout: fair-weather and more dangerous ones found during oceanic tornados that form during storms, known as tornadic waterspouts.

These tornadic waterspouts, according to the US National Ocean Service, are often associated with severe thunderstorms and can be accompanied by "high winds and seas, large hail, and frequent dangerous lightning".

Sky News' meteorologist Chris England says avoiding these while on the water "isn't really possible".

"Tornado development can be very rapid and they can travel across the surface at typically 10-20mph, but considerably more on occasion, so avoiding them isn't really possible, especially in something as slow moving as a typical yacht," he says.

"In that part of the Mediterranean, waterspouts seem to occur around 30 days a year, mainly in summer and autumn, but they are small scale events, so are actually quite rare in any given location."

Spokesman Vincenzo Zagarola said this was the working theory of officials in Sicily.

This is because it is believed the boat sank quickly and search and rescue efforts by sea and air have so far delivered no results, he said.

"We think they are still inside the boat, that is our very hard idea.

"Our search and rescue activity by sea and air has gone on for around 36 hours.

"Of course, we do not exclude that they are not inside the boat, but we know the boat sank quickly.

"We suppose that the six people missing may not have had time to get out of the boat."

 We can now bring you a fuller picture of the Bayesian superyacht, as divers open a hole in its hull as part of their search operation.

The British-flagged 56 metre ship - previously called the Salute - was built in 2008 by Italian shipyard Perini Navi, and refitted in 2020.

Its mast was the world's tallest aluminium mast, and the second tallest overall. 

It had six guest bedrooms - one master, three doubles and two twins - holding 12 people, and can carry another 10 crew members.

The yacht could reach a maximum speed of 15 knots and weighs 473 tonnes.

It won the best exterior styling at the World Superyacht Awards in 2009, and best interior at the International Superyacht Society Awards 2008.

Shipspotting.com said it was owned by a firm called Revtom Limited. Mike Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, is named as the sole shareholder of the firm on company documents.

The price to charter the yacht was not stated, but similar vessels were listed at around £170,500 a week.

Divers have managed to open a hole in the hull of the superyacht, according to Italian media.

The ship is lying on its side and, until the hole was made, appeared to be intact, Marco Tilotta, inspector of the Palermo Fire Department's diving unit, told Il Messaggero.

He said the boat was "without any tears".

PA reports that divers are trying to access its cabins.

Mr Tilotta told Sky News that the rescue teams are facing complex conditions - read more in our previous post.

A diver coordinating the search and rescue mission says the conditions facing the rescue teams are "prohibitive".

Marco Tilotta, inspector of the Palermo Fire Department's diving unit, told Sky News that divers went into the water "uninterruptedly" from yesterday at dawn until 11.30pm last night, and again since 6am today.

"Our job is to help people and hope to find them alive, but clearly the conditions are prohibitive," he said.

"In our entire careers as divers, these are events that are clearly difficult to prevent and therefore truly unlikely and difficult to manage.

"I don't dare think of what the people who were there on board experienced."

One person died and six people were missing after a luxury yacht sank Monday in Italy off the coast of Palermo, the capital of Sicily, after a sudden storm hit the area, according to Italy's coast guard.

The Bayesian, a 184-feet-long, British-registered sailboat, went down just before sunrise, capsizing its 22 passengers and killing one man, the ship's cook, t he coast guard said in a statement. On Monday, rescue teams identified the body as Antiguan citizen Ricardo Thomas.

Of the 15 passengers rescued, eight were taken to a local hospital for treatment and were in stable condition, local news reported. A 1-year-old was among those rescued.

"We are providing consular support to a number of British nationals and their families following an incident in Sicily and are in contact with the local authorities," the U.K Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said in a statement emailed to USA TODAY.

The people missing were American, British, and Canadian nationals.

What caused the Bayesian to sink?

The ship sank after unexpectedly strong storms recently dumped heavy rainfall, causing flooding and landslides, in parts of the country. Among those missing are British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, and his daughter, a person familiar with the rescue operation told Reuters.

Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International, and Chris Morvillo, a lawyer at Clifford Chance who represented Lynch in a  U.S. trial , were among the missing. The wives of both men were also unaccounted for, said Salvatore Cocina, head of civil protection in Sicily.

"The fear is that the bodies got trapped inside the vessel," he told Reuters.

The yacht was owned by Lynch's family and had 22 people on board when it sank just before sunrise. The captain of a nearby ship told Reuters his crew rescued some survivors from a life raft, including three seriously injured.

"We managed to keep the ship in position and after the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone," Karsten Borner said. The other boat "went flat on the water, and then down," he said.

"A little baby and the wife of the owner" were rescued, while the ship's owner and a child were missing, he said.

The boat was located 160 feet under the water and divers were deployed to inspect the wreck, according to the coast guard.

The search-and-rescue operation continued on Monday morning, a Reuters live feed showed . A helicopter and four coast guard ships were at the scene on Monday morning, according to the coast guard.

Bayesian had set sail off Amalfi Coast in July

Prosecutors in a nearby town have opened an investigation into the events leading up to the ship sinking.

The Bayesian set off for Palermo from Positano, a village on Italy's southern Amalfi Coast, on July 30, according to marinetraffic.com . It last docked in the town of Milazzo, in Messina, on Wednesday, according to VesselFinder.

The ship has the tallest aluminum mast in the world, according to Perini Navi , its manufacturer. It was built in 2008.
