yacht tender with cabin

While tenders are used for a wide variety of transportation tasks, one of the most important features of a tender is the ability to move passengers to and from the beach. Delivering a group of excited guests to a beach picnic, exploring a remote stretch of shoreline or simply loading up passengers & gear from wherever you need to be, nothing gives you the unrestricted access of a Munson Yacht Tender.

Our clients say it best…

“She performed admirably and I am very pleased with each and every upgrade. Thanks again and hope to see you in the near future.”

TENDERS & CHASE BOATS FOR SALE

Browse the best luxury tenders and powerboats for sale with YACHTZOO

yacht tender with cabin

Luxury tenders for sale

Yachtzoo offers excellent choices for those seeking tenders and chase boats for their superyachts or simply a powerboat for day cruising.

Tenders come in a range of models and styles, spanning from 5 meters and up to the maximum size needed for larger yachts. These powerboats offer various propulsion options, including inboard, outboard engines, and electric systems. There’s a diverse selection of tenders available for purchase, featuring both new builds and pre-owned models from renowned brands such as Williams Jet Tenders, Sacs, Wally, Van Dutch, Mazu Yachts, as well as custom-built vessels.

When making your selection, there are several crucial factors to consider before acquiring your tender or chase boat.

These factors include the size, running cost, intended usage, power source, price, and the choice of construction material. Depending on the dimensions of your yacht, it’s imperative to ensure that you have sufficient space for tender storage. Ideally, you should have an enclosed storage area available. If you’re purchasing a tender for a day boat, you’ll also need to plan for a convenient berth for your tender.

Though boat tenders are typically used for guest transfers, there are a variety of luxury yacht tenders depending on your needs, whether you’re after comfort or means to more adventure. For example, inflatable tenders have a rigid hull, which provides excellent stability and little risk of tipping over which can be helpful for those with young families. There are also landing crafts that may be more suitable as a superyacht tender as they are large enough to carry vehicles. They are typically used by the military but may be handy for those wishing to do some quad biking. There are also dive boat tenders which are great for those who prefer to get away from the shore for some deep-sea scuba diving.

It’s also worth considering if chase tenders would be more suitable for your yachting needs. Unlike a traditional tender which sits below the deck within a garage, a chase boat can be towed, driven separately, or moored.

When buying a yacht, you must also consider what onboard amenities are essential and who you will likely enjoy time on the water with. For example, someone wishing to holiday with family and friends will want a vessel that can accommodate plenty of guests yet still afford everyone privacy. We specialize in luxury yachts for sale and can help you select the ideal boat for your needs.

How much does a superyacht cost?

The cost of a superyacht will depend on several factors, including the size of the vessel, the type of vessel, the shipbuilder, the year of build, and onboard amenities. Some of the world’s largest superyachts cost hundreds of millions. However, it is possible to enter the superyacht market for less. YACHTZOO’s team of brokers can work within a wide range of budgets.

How much does a superyacht cost to run per year?

The yearly operational costs of a superyacht is an essential consideration when it comes to buying a yacht. YACHTZOO offers exceptional yacht management services that can help streamline the operational cost of yacht ownership.

What amenities can I find on a typical luxury yacht for sale?

The type of amenities on a yacht will vary depending on the size of the vessel, with superyachts and larger models for sale typically boasting onboard amenities that rival the world’s most luxurious resorts. 11 Tenders That Might Be Even More Fun Than Your Superyacht

Pascoe TL Limousine Tender

About 60 tenders of all stripes and sizes were on display at last month’s Monaco Yacht Show , from Novamarine’s Black Shiver 160, stretching 56 feet in length (too large for most superyachts to carry on board) to the small 26-foot Lanéva Dayboat, built for performance with a responsive, electric drivetrain.

These days, most superyachts over 120 feet carry at least two tenders on board. Twenty years ago, when the average superyacht size was closer to 80 feet, that would’ve meant a RIB for the crew and a Boston Whaler for guests. Today, it’s not uncommon for gigayachts over 250 feet to have much larger, elaborate limousine tenders with a roof that slides over the cabin, an open sports tender for convenience, and even a Zodiac for heading into remote regions.

The 303-foot Tatoosh , built by Nobiskrug in 2000, was among the first yachts with a deck that carries two 39-foot tenders: a Hinckley motoryacht and a Frers daysailer. It also holds three other tenders, a safety boat and four Sea-Doos. Meanwhile, the 296-foot classic yacht Nero , also on display last month at the Monaco show, brings glamor to any occasion with its custom-built wooden Corsair tender. At the futuristic end, America’s Cup Emirates Team New Zealand last year launched a hydrogen-fuel-celled tender, Chase 0 , to show that emissions-free hydrogen fuel cells could be a viable alternative to fossil fuels.

“Many superyacht owners and project managers are looking to tender manufacturers to bridge the gap between performance and ocean preservation,” Mark Pascoe, founder of Falcon Tenders, told Robb Report, noting the company uses the latest hybrid and electric propulsion in its tenders.  Sustainability is indeed a big theme for tender manufacturers, and many new electric runabout builders are out to convince yacht owners that they can offer the same performance and comfort as a conventional tender, but without the emissions.

In the end, however, there are really just two types of tenders: Those designed to fit into a yacht’s garage, or those that serve as shuttles from the owner’s home port to the mothership.

That means styles and sizes are very much up to the owners. Here are 10 of our favorites, from the Tyde electric hydro-foiler to Riva’s iconic mahogany Aquarama.

Hodgdon Limousine

yacht tender with cabin

Heading for a shipyard in Northern Europe to be paired with a superyacht, Hodgdon’s new Limousine has accommodations for up 15, with both forward and aft outside seating areas, a wetbar, climate-controlled interior and a T-top that lowers for when the tender is stowed in the yacht’s garage. It also has gyro stabilizers to minimize motion sickness. The Michael Peters’ design looks more like a Downeast express cruiser than a traditional limo. The deep-V hull is fast and designed for stability in rough water, while the twin Volvo D4-320 engines deliver speed when necessary. The Maine shipyard’s dedication to quality is seen throughout the yacht, including the stainless on the exterior and custom upholstery inside. Even the Hodgdon signature flush anchor is custom fabricated.

Compass Limousine for Oceanco ‘H3’

yacht tender with cabin

Custom-built for the 344-foot Oceanco H3 (ex-Al Mirqab and listed among the 25 largest yachts in the world) this 36-foot limousine bears subtle styling characteristics taken from the mothership’s exterior design, including the window shape and hard-top detailing. The cabin features custom leather seating, stainless-steel trim, leather paneling, and a geometric teak floor. There is also an integrated AV system, ambient lighting and forward-facing cameras that display the tender’s journey on twin screens. Access to the cabin is through sliding glass doors fore and aft, while an electric sliding-glass roof opens the interior to the outdoors.

Falcon Project KD

yacht tender with cabin

Making its world debut in Monaco last month was Project KD from British builder Falcon Tenders . The custom 32-foot limousine tender was commissioned by the owner of a 210-foot Sanlorenzo yacht due to deliver next year. The fully finished exterior has fiber-optic light lines by Fibr8, powered by lasers to evenly emit light over long distances. The interior design remains under wraps until the unveiling next year. But if Falcon’s recent tenders, the Miss Wonderly and Miss Le Blanc, are anything to go by, the quality of build as well as features like the leather upholstery with its intricate hand-stitched seams, will make Project KD a tender worth waiting to see.

Brabus Shadow 300

yacht tender with cabin

Available in two models—a Cross-Bow or Cross-Top—the Brabus Shadow 300 is designed with powerboat enthusiasts in mind. Agile and easy to handle, the 25-foot sportster makes a good superyacht tender. The top speed of 50 knots, thanks to a Mercury 300R V8 racing engine, assures swift passage from the yacht to port. It’s also a great boat for watersports since it’s fitted with a pole for water-skiing, inflatable towing and wakeboarding. Not big enough? Its 38-foot Shadow 900 Black Ops Boat certainly provides a larger and very different look.

J-Craft Torpedo ‘BaBeBi’

yacht tender with cabin

Turning heads at both Cannes and Monaco this year was J-Craft’s 42-foot Torpedo BaBeBi . The Swedish builder’s first Torpedo with a metallic-colored hull sports a beautiful brass and off-white interior enhanced by diamond stitching. It’s twinned with serious functionality, capable of sailing in open water and certified to withstand 13-foot waves. Taking over 9,000 man-hours to build and fitted with two Volvo Penta IPS 650s, BaBeBi delivers a top speed of 47 knots. Equipped with lithium batteries for a full day on the water with the engines off, it has a 280-nautical mile range, a convertible open cockpit with two sundecks, and sleeps up to four guests for weekend retreats.

Cockwells ‘Titian ‘Tender

yacht tender with cabin

The custom 34-foot Titian tender built by U.K.-based Cockwells is equipped with old-school features like specially cast stainless-steel fittings on the exterior and a Corian and copper galley belowdecks. Its advanced electronics include a virtual anchor and touchscreen digital switching system. Powered by a highly maneuverable twin jet drive, the Titian played a starring role in fashion brand Michael Kors’s 2022 advertising campaign called ‘The Thrill of the Chase’, which saw Bella Hadid aboard the tender on London’s River Thames with Alton Mason in hot pursuit. Finished to superyacht quality standards, Titian won the “Pre-1980s” category of the Concours d’Elégance at last year’s Cannes Yachting Festival. Cockwells also has other mutliple designs under its sleeve. It recently showed a 39-foot hydrofoil limousine that can theoretically cruise at 40 knots.

Riva Aquarama

yacht tender with cabin

No tender round-up is complete without mentioning the Riva Aquarama —the most famous of all Carlo Riva’s designs. The Italian builder’s iconic luxury wooden runabout saw a limited run of 281 Aquarama Normals and Supers between 1962 and 1972, when Riva still owned the shipyard, and then 277 more, called the Special, were built in the next two decades. The Aquarama’s speed, grace, and craftsmanship make it a much-desired primary boat, not to mention the world’s most stylish tender. Prices for historically correct can range between $400,000 and $800,000, but much will depend on the actual model and number within the series.

Williams DieselJet 565

yacht tender with cabin

Williams is one of the perennial names in RIB tenders, with multiple yacht builders designing their garages around specific models. The DieselJet 565 has several advantages over competitors. First, it’s a jet drive so driving is reliable and maneuverability is excellent. Secondly, it runs on diesel, the preferred fuel for many owners who don’t want to carry the more flammable gasoline on the yacht if they don’t have to. Finally, this nine-passenger design should be able to carry owners and guests in one trip, two in a pinch. Williams paid attention to the details that matter, like ergonomic seating, decent storage, grab rails, and even an optional plate on the yacht’s stern that illuminates the name of the mothership.

Lanéva Dayboat

yacht tender with cabin

The Lanéva all-electric dayboat is equipped with a lithium polymer battery designed for military operations, while the two axial-flow motors are used in aviation. It has a wood structure, a deck comprised of sustainable flax and volcanic fibers, a cork floor and a 100 percent recyclable leatherette upholstery. Sporting a cobalt-blue hull, the 26-foot boat brings performance to electric tender design.

yacht tender with cabin

The Tyde Icon is a wild-looking 43-footer, a wedge-shaped electric boat that foils to 30 knots. It’s definitely not designed to be loaded into a superyacht garage. But it can make a head-turning tender between an owner’s home and the mothership. Designed in collaboration with BMW, the yacht has large windows for vewing the water as well as lounge chairs across the enclosed cabin. A pair of 100 kW electric motors convert the 240 kWh of energy supplied by six batteries from the BMW i3 for a range of more than 50 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 24 knots.

Sacs Rebel 47

yacht tender with cabin

The Sacs Rebel 47 is a great example of a large rigid-hulled inflatable that can serve as both a tender and primary day boat for the owner. It has multiple seating areas across the exterior and a generous cabin below-decks for cooking or taking a nap. The boat’s offshore hull is designed to run at speed in rough water, and of course, the inflatable collar adds an element of buoyancy to the design. With two 440 hp Volvo D6 sterndrives, the boat has a top end of 38 knots. But with three Yamaha 425 hp XTO outboards, that jumps to 50 knots.

ALL THE SPACE IS INSIDE!

Biggest 38’ family cruiser in the world.

The Selene 38 Voyager Aft-cabin is based on the successful Archer design with several technical improvements like  Diamond Sea Glaze sliding doors, optional Seakeeper gyro stabilization, Li-Ion batteries, a new electricity management system, a sea-chest for easier maintenance, an optional water maker with high-voltage auto-clean system, etc… A happy and classy gentleman’s yacht which has been cruising in British Columbia, the Bahamas, the Greek islands and South-East Asia for decades already. This beautiful and charming pocket yacht has always been incredibly popular because of its unique layout which guarantees privacy to four people or two couples. Because of its moderate size it can be hauled-out by the smallest Travelift and accommodated in almost any marina anywhere in the world. Thanks to its classic lines designed by Howard Chen and the legendary marine architect Ted Hood, winner of the 1972 America’s Cup, the Selene 38 Aft-cabin model is, and will remain, one of Howard Chen’s favorite yachts. When creating this yacht the designers adopted the unique concept of the “Whale Back” hull, that was a trademark of Ted Hood’s designs. This is why the aft cabin concept has so much headroom and space in the engine room. It probably has the best engine room layout for its size anywhere.

BEST ENGINE ROOM IN ITS CLASS

While the Selene 38 Voyager Aft-cabin is a legendary yacht, she doesn’t compromise on modern technology and first class components, like the recent addition of Diamond Sea Glaze doors, improved sound-proofing, optional air-conditioning, generator and larger aluminum fuel tanks for extensive cruising. Howard says that the best-selling yachts of all time were the Grand Banks 36-42, but when their production ended for a while Howard decided he wanted to bring a high quality compact trawler back to the market. He wanted to build an elegant yacht with traditional timber joinery, leather upholstery, teak & holly floors, a spacious interior with two cabins and two heads, a cozy salon, a practical galley and safe decks. The Selene 38 Voyager Aft-cabin is an excellent family cruiser, or the perfect Looper’s yacht. A tender finds its natural spot on top of the aft cabin where it can be loaded by a mast and boom.

Do not hesitate to contact us for more info : [email protected]

Many Selene 38 Voyager Aft-cabin make use of the mast for a steadying sail which gives the boat a classy « heritage yacht » style as well as a simple and maintenance-free stabilization system. And all this, including a flybridge with an outdoor deck salon, comes at an affordable price! As the entry level model of the trawlers range, the Selene 38 Voyager Aft-cabin is still a best-seller. We call it our “small super-yacht”, all the space is inside…

Chase Boats

Jump to our Top 4 Chase Boats for 2024

Creating a sense of drama not always associated with other types of tenders, the quintessential chase boat is central to a superyacht’s inventory.

Able to largely operate independently by “chasing” the mothership, a chase boat has traditionally been too big to live onboard and has therefore been towed rather than stowed.

Often owing styling to its mothership, a superyacht chase boat marries agility and seaworthiness with luxury and grandeur.

In an era of superyacht volume and range being larger than ever, the chase boat is no longer an isolated category and now means different things in different circumstances.

For many of the largest yachts (80m+), garage space is often dedicated to an array of custom tenders, while for many ‘smaller’ boats, a conventional chase tender either transported or on tow remains an indispensable solution.

How big are chase boats?

Chase boats are typically in the region of 8-20m.

Can a RIB be a chase boat?

Yes — Rigid Inflatables Boats are frequently used as chase boats. Where they are often less beguiling in design, they make up for in all-around versatility.

Does a limousine tender fit the bill?

Whilst many limousines offer a dry and luxurious ride with a fully enclosed cabin, they are not ideal for towing.

Thanks to their low profile, they are generally a great candidate for stowing in a superyacht garage. Moreover, they are mostly limited to guest transfer as opposed to the relative versatility of a conventional chase boat that suits other daytime activities.

Do chase boats have a dedicated captain?

Often, yes – especially where chase boats are operated completely independently of the mothership.

Is a shadow vessel a chase boat?

In theory, a shadow vessel is a chase boat, but not in the traditional sense.

Arguably embodying everything you could ever need in a stand-alone chase boat, the only major drawback is its size.

A conventional chase boat, often called a day boat, typically grants easy access to marinas and shallower areas. While our ROAM Shadow has a draft of just 1.7m, the ROAM 10 or our Beachlander would take you to shore.

Characteristics of a chase boat

A well-proportioned cabin.

In most cases, the cabin on a chase boat is forward of the helm (aft—the shallowest part of the boat—is generally reserved for a roomy swim platform).

Occupying the entire forward area maximises space to house a combined bedroom/lounge, fully equipped head with a shower, and a compact galley. This seamless integration of essential living spaces ensures a cosy yet spacious retreat away from the elements. Perfect for guests seeking a little peace and quiet!

An adaptable layout

As a dynamic platform for adventure and leisure away from the mothership, guests often spend many hours on a chase boat.

Typically catering for up to sixteen guests in close proximity away from the privacy of the mothership, chase boats need to excel in versatility.

Seamless transitions from water sports to food service, hot sun to wet weather, and guest transfers to overnight stays are essential considerations in their design.

The interior of a guest cabin on a small boat

Ingenious toy storage

Adventure and entertainment are at the heart of the chase boat experience, granting guests the closest access to utopian water sports locations.

Facilitated by innovative storage solutions for several select water toys, the savviest chase boats include storage within side doors, bow lockers, deck hatches and on T-Tops. Occasionally a chase boat will include a small crane for deploying heavier toys stowed on the deck.

Ample power

A chase boat is defined not just by its luxury and versatility but also by its power and agility.

Engineered for those who demand performance, chase boats usually boast impressive horsepower, typically starting from around 600 hp and soaring to over 2,000.

This power ensures swift, responsive navigation, enabling quick location changes or a rapid return to the mothership.

Xtender 16.1 – the long-range, 50 knot tender that’s built like a superyacht

Dutch builder Xtender’s new flagship, the Xtender 16.1 yacht tender, is so customised that its build process was closer to that of superyacht. Designed for a discerning owner, the fully carbon yacht tender was created in collaboration with Herbert Dercksen, Dubois Naval Architects and GCA Architects.

The brief for the new Xtenders 16.1 yacht tender called for a boat that could be stowable on the superyacht where she would reside. Dubois drew the lines of the low deckhouse, while Herbert Dercksen’s experience as an Olympic sailor influenced the Xtender 16.1’s efficiency, stability and speed. She can reach a top speed of 50 knots – making her one of the fastest superyacht tenders – and impressively has a range of 500 nautical miles at 25 knots.

“I wouldn’t even call it a tender,” he says, “It’s more like a small superyacht. The project was conceived in the same way we do superyachts, with a specification designer and interior designer,” says owner representative Sebastian Allebrodt. “The 16.1 has been a big game changer for Xtenders and I feel they were working more as a superyacht shipyard during the project rather than a tender builder.”

GCA Architects from Barcelona decorated the detailed interior, which is a place where guests can have respite from the elements. The Xtender 16.1’s interior is decorated in clear-coat carbon veneers and has a full galley with Miele and CEA appliances like you’d typically find on a mothership. There’s also a day head, and the berth transforms into a sofa.

“Two of the most important factors were the correct use of the textures and of the colors; the cabin’s interior shows a strong contrast between the flat dark surfaces in carbon fibre and the coziness and softness of the white fabrics,” comments Anna Trillo of GCA Architects.

The Xtender 16.1 has notable features, such as a sun awning that can be used in speeds of up to 40mph. The entire yacht tranforms into a “floating island” while at anchor as the aft bulwarks fold down, creating a huge area for sunbathing

Five Classic Tenders That You Can’t Help But Love

There’s an undeniable grace about the classic yacht tender, whether they were built last year or a century ago.

yacht tender with cabin

A Classic tender is one of the ultimate superyacht accessories

The trademark glossy wood finish and low lines summon up the romance of yesteryear — those heady days of Hollywood when film stars like Clark Gable and Brigitte Bardot lolled oh-so-casually in Riva tenders off the French Riviera coastline .

Fast forward to the 2020’s, when a classic tender is still one of the ultimate superyacht accessories . Here are 5 standouts that are making a splash.

Boesch 860 Monaco Deluxe

yacht tender with cabin

One of the biggest names in classic tenders, Swiss builder Boesch offers a range of handcrafted luxury wooden runabouts . Established in 1920, the brand was propelled to greatness in the 1940s with the establishment of the Boesch Horizon gliding principle, and by the 1960’s, Boesch boats had a reputation for extraordinary speed and power.

Since the turn of the 21st century, a line of stunning classic Boesch tenders have been released, including the popular 970 St. Tropez Deluxe and the 9m Boesch 860 Monaco Deluxe . This classic runabout is available in V8, diesel and an electric powered version (at present- EU only), has a top speed of 37 knots and has a reinforced wooden hull finished in glossy mahogany. The good life is assured on board, with a bathing platform, light-filled cabin with toilet, a retractable top for all-weather cruising, and a seating area for up to 8 guests.

Rivamare by Riva

yacht tender with cabin

Who could forget the great icon of the classic tender , the Riva . This legendary tender brand began on the shores of Lake Iseo in 1842; Over one hundred years later, Riva was truly cemented as a jetset icon with the launch of the Riva Aquarama , the tender of the stars.

Today, Riva is owned by the Ferretti Group and their tenders are made of fibreglass rather than wood. But there’s more than a touch of that classic heritage in the current model, the Rivamare, where the mahogany detailing traces a direct line back to the Rivas of yesteryear. Launched in June 2016 and reaching a top speed of 40 kots, this 11.88m classic-inspired tender features the latest in marine technology, including Seakeeper NG5 stabiliser, underwater lighting, and a swim platform with sunbeds. The interior features a galley, head with shower, and a cabin for overnight trips.

J Craft 42 RS Torpedo by J Craft Boats

yacht tender with cabin

The 12.8 J Craft 42 is built on the Swedish island of Gotland, where the boat-building tradition stretches back over a thousand years to the days of the Vikings. Founded in 1999, J Craft has an extremely exclusive history, with its first cruiser launched for the King of Sweden. More than 20 years later, there are still less than 30 J Craft vessels in existence, most from the 12.8m Torpedo series.  Highly customised for each owner, the J Craft Torpedo RS brings together the best of tradition and modernity, with stunning classic lines and shiny mahogany meeting modern features and technical brilliance. The new RS version stands for Racing Supercharged and is J Craft’s most powerful engine - 2 x Volvo Penta IPS 650 hp - with a top speed of 47 knots. Guests will enjoy the tender’s large sunpad, swim platform, day head, and a convertible lounge which converts into a double cabin, with an additional double bed below the cockpit.

Comitti Venezia 28 Elegance

yacht tender with cabin

Another major player in the classic tender scene is Comitti , one of the last remaining Italian manufacturer of classic motorboats in GRP + wood composite. The Comitti boatyard was established on the shores of Lake Como in 1956 by Mario Comitti, who quickly built a reputation for elegant high-performance wooden tenders. The tradition continues with the tenders currently manufactured by Comitti, where the Venezia 28 Elegance stands up as the highest evolution of the wooden tenders first envisaged by Mario Comitti, models which have had great success and many updates up to the glamorous Elegance models of today.

The 8.7m Venezia 28 Elegance offers astonishing speed thanks to its engine power up to 430 Hp, available in either Mercruiser or Volvo. All the three Comitti models available in Elegance trim (V22, V25 and V28) can be seen as the more classic and traditional expression of Comitti craftmanship, but they offer all the luxuries of the modern day-cruisers, including twin 1.85 metre sunbathing platform, refrigeration in the cockpit, fresh-water shower at the stern, and a stowable cockpit table.

Hinckley Runabout 34

yacht tender with cabin

Last but definitely not least is the Hinckley Runabout 34 , manufactured in the US by Hinckley Yachts , which was founded in 1928 as a fleet of exceptionally elegant yet tough fishing boats running out of Maine. With a classic design dominated by a retro windshield and sweeping curves, this beauty brings together the best of a golden era and the technology of today.  The Hinckley 34 is powered by twin waterjet propulsion, offering an enviable 22 inches of draft, allowing you to get in close to beaches. All the mod cons are on board, including controlling the yacht’s features from a touchscreen device and a retractable bimini.  A classic wooden tender offers the best of yachting heritage and modern technology.

Our team of experts are always here to discuss classic superyacht tenders , please contact us for more information.

Everything you need to know about MSC Cruises cabins and suites

A relative newcomer in the North American market, MSC Cruises is equal parts elegant and kitschy. The line tends to appeal to a wide swath of cruisers, from Europeans who like to party into the wee hours of the morning to American families who book because of affordable fares and "kids sail free" pricing.

To satisfy its diverse passenger base, MSC offers accommodations to fit all types of travelers. Rooms include inexpensive inside cabins that sleep two people, midlevel staterooms with windows and balconies, and high-end suites that offer cruisers with larger budgets a private oasis in the form of the MSC Yacht Club .

A variety of connecting rooms and cabins with extra bunks accommodate larger groups and families who wish to share space.

Because your cruise cabin will be your home away from home for several days, it's important to book one that fits your needs. That's especially true if you're sharing it with several people.

Whether you're looking at an inside cabin for a cruise with friends, balcony accommodations for you and your significant other or a suite for your family, here TPG breaks down what you can expect when you book a room on one of MSC's ships.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

MSC Cruises cabin primer

MSC Cruises has become one of the fastest-growing lines in the cruise industry, with about two dozen ships in its fleet. The vessels fall into six classes : Lirica, Musica, Fantasia, Meraviglia, Seaside and World.

Although cabin offerings can vary from ship to ship and class to class, the standard types remain the same: inside, outside, balcony and suite.

Additionally, you'll find the same basic amenities in each room, unless otherwise noted below. They include two twin beds that can be joined to form a queen- or king-size bed; an in-cabin bathroom with a shower, a sink, a toilet and basic soap, shower gel and shampoo; a couple of nightstands; a chair or sofa; a desk/vanity; a closet; a safe; a hair dryer; a minifridge; a phone; USB outlets and a selection of both North American and European outlets.

On all ships except MSC Lirica, MSC Opera, MSC Sinfonia and MSC Armonia, you'll also find an interactive TV that allows you to view the daily schedule, check your onboard account and choose from a selection of live TV programs and movies.

Twice-daily room tidying is provided by a room steward assigned to each cabin, and room service is available throughout the day for an added fee.

One confusing aspect of MSC's bookings is that you'll have to select an experience package in addition to a cabin type. Package tiers determine things like your ability to choose a specific cabin and preferred dining time and whether you'll receive welcome amenities in your room. Certain cabin types are only available in conjunction with certain package experiences and vice versa. Those are noted in each respective section below.

Accessible cabins , including accommodations for wheelchair users, are available on every ship in MSC's fleet. In addition to more space, they feature wider doorways and lowered sinks and toilets in the bathrooms, as well as grab bars.

MSC Cruises' experience packages

Here's what you get when you book each of MSC's three experience packages, which determine the perks you'll receive on your sailing.

  • Accommodations
  • Complimentary food in the dining room and buffet
  • Broadway-style theater entertainment
  • Access to the onboard gym, pool and kids club
  • MSC Voyagers Club points
  • One for-fee change to your cruise booking (with some restrictions)
  • Drink package discount at time of booking
  • All Bella perks
  • Choice of specific cabin and location
  • One free change to your cruise booking (with some restrictions)
  • Ability to choose between early and late seating for dinner
  • Room service (complimentary for breakfast, but fees apply for other meals)
  • Discount on pre-cruise specialty dining package
  • All Fantastica and Bella perks
  • Flexible My Choice dining, which lets you eat at any time you choose between set hours
  • Free 24-hour room service delivery
  • Pillow menu
  • A welcome package, including Prosecco and chocolates
  • Complimentary access to your ship's solarium and thermal area
  • A 10% discount on all spa treatments purchased on board
  • Special Balinese massage offer when booked pre-cruise
  • Complimentary use of bathrobe and slippers
  • Priority boarding and luggage drop-off

Inside cabins on MSC Cruises ships

Inside cabins — rooms with no windows — are available on all ships in the MSC fleet. Ranging from 140 to 301 square feet (depending on the ship), they make for great sleeping because they're so dark. They're also ideal for passengers who are on a budget.

In addition to the standard amenities mentioned above, they provide room for anywhere from two to four passengers to sleep. (Rooms that sleep more than two feature bunks that pull down from the ceiling.)

These cabins are available with the line's Bella and Fantastica experiences.

If you're sailing solo, some MSC vessels offer cabins for one outfitted with a twin bed that converts into a couch. These interior studio accommodations are only available with the Bella package on MSC Meraviglia , MSC Bellissima and the line's World Class ships.

Ocean-view cabins on MSC Cruises ships

Ocean-view rooms are similar to insides in that they provide basic amenities — but with a view.

Offering 129 to 269 square feet of space (depending on the specific ship and ocean-view category), these staterooms allow you to see outside through a porthole or a window that doesn't open.

MSC's outside cabins are available to passengers who book Bella and Fantastica packages.

Additionally, if you're traveling with your family or another group, several of MSC Cruises' ships — particularly those in the Meraviglia and Seaside classes — feature space for as many as 10 passengers via a series of connecting rooms. Options are available at the ocean-view and balcony levels.

Balcony cabins on MSC Cruises ships

You might be surprised to discover that most of MSC Cruises' balcony cabins provide less interior square footage than what's available in inside or ocean-view staterooms.

Balcony rooms run anywhere from 129 to 205 square feet, but their key feature is, of course, a private balcony, which does add an extra 32 to 129 square feet, depending on the vessel and specific type of balcony room booked. These cabins are bookable in conjunction with MSC's Bella, Fantastica and Aurea experiences.

Although balcony cabins offer upgraded amenities, including MSC's brand of hand lotion and toiletries, they are largely the same as inside and ocean-view accommodations.

MSC's newest ships — including those in the Meraviglia, Seaside and World Classes — house connecting balcony rooms that can sleep up to 10 in the same group traveling together.

Additionally, on its World Class ships, the line has introduced inward-facing balconies, similar to the ones Royal Caribbean pioneered in 2009 with the debut of its Oasis Class vessels . On World Europa, for example, they overlook the ship's promenade, offering views of the activity below, rather than the ocean.

MSC Cruises suites

All ships in MSC's fleet have suites that can be booked as part of the Fantastica and Aurea packages, but it's Aurea that offers the largest number of perks, as outlined above.

The several types of suites vary by ship in terms of size and amenities. Some come with balconies, while others only offer floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows.

Junior Suites

Although this room type is listed as a suite, it's essentially a balcony cabin with a bit more space — 183 square feet of interior accommodation with a balcony that ranges from 140 to 183 square feet.

Standard suites include rooms with huge balconies larger than the cabin's interior space and ones with private whirlpool tubs. They run from 269 to 355 square feet, with balconies measuring 32 to 409 square feet.

Grand Suites

Coming in between 377 and 420 square feet, with balconies spanning from 32 to 495 square feet, Grand Suites — found on Seaside and World Class ships — come in two types. They include standard one-bedroom Grand Suites, as well as two-bedroom varieties.

The latter has one bedroom with a queen-size bed and another with two twins. It sleeps up to five passengers and offers two bathrooms — one with a shower and the other with a bathtub.

While most suites are designed for double occupancy, some suite accommodations on MSC Bellissima, MSC Grandiosa, MSC Virtuosa and MSC Magnifica can sleep up to five people.

MSC Yacht Club suites on MSC ships

All cabins located in the MSC Yacht Club — an exclusive, gated area on select ships — are called suites, even the smallest and least expensive, which don't have windows or balconies.

Yacht Club suite types range from insides to two-deck duplexes, all of which come with butler and concierge services, luxuriously appointed furnishings (such as real marble finishes, memory foam mattresses and Egyptian cotton sheets) and access to members-only restaurants, bars (alcohol is free there), lounges, pools and sun decks.

The Yacht Club features seven different types of rooms. Ships that have the MSC Yacht Club on board include MSC Bellissima, MSC Divina, MSC Fantasia, MSC Grandiosa, MSC Meraviglia, MSC Preziosa, MSC Seaside, MSC Seascape, MSC Seaview, MSC Seashore, MSC Splendida, MSC Virtuosa and MSC World Europa.

Note: Not all Yacht Clubs have the same suite types available.

MSC Yacht Club Interior Suites

Although these 161- to 226-square-foot cabins don't offer a view or fresh air, they are elegantly decorated and include all the Yacht Club benefits mentioned above.

MSC Yacht Club Deluxe Suites

These Yacht Club digs are the equivalent of a balcony cabin — but in a dedicated area that includes all the exclusive perks. They run 236 to 366 square feet and have balconies ranging from 54 to 86 square feet, so they also come with a bit more space, both inside and outdoors.

MSC Yacht Club Deluxe Grand Suites

Similarly, Deluxe Grand Suites are like the Yacht Club equivalent of booking a Grand Suite with more perks. Depending on the ship, they offer anywhere from 269 to 463 square feet of space, plus 65- to 129-square-foot balconies. Some Grand Suites also have two bedrooms instead of one. Further, these rooms on Seaside Class ships include bathrooms with bathtubs, as well as separate living areas.

MSC Yacht Club Duplex Suites

Rising two decks, MSC's duplex staterooms measure 495 to 635 square feet and come with 65- to 334-square-foot balconies. They feature living rooms with two-person sofa beds downstairs and master bedrooms upstairs, which also sleep two passengers.

Each of these accommodations comes complete with two walk-in closets and two bathrooms — one with a bathtub and one with a shower. Most duplexes on Meraviglia and World Class ships also have their own private whirlpool tubs.

MSC Yacht Club Executive and Family Suites

The line's Executive and Family Suites, available only on Fantasia Class vessels, are an excellent choice for anyone who wants to stay in the Yacht Club with a family or other group of more than two people.

This option, which is one type of suite (despite its confusing name), has space for up to five cruisers via a combination of bunk beds, sofa beds and beds that pull down from the ceiling, depending on the ship. The suites clock in at around 431 to 549 square feet, depending on the vessel.

The only drawback is that these staterooms have no balconies and no in-room dining areas, but they do include all the perks you'd find in Yacht Club cabins.

MSC Yacht Club Royal Suites

Although they only occupy one level, at 388 to 667 square feet, MSC's Yacht Club Royal Suites are right up there with the Duplex Suites in terms of space. They offer the second-largest amount of square footage after the Owner's Suites. They come with huge balconies comprising 355 to 753 square feet of outdoor area.

Additionally, bathrooms in these suites offer bathtubs on Fantasia, Meraviglia, Seaside and World Class ships, and the latter three have private whirlpool tubs, as well. All four classes' Royal Suites also include separate living room areas.

MSC Yacht Club Owner's Suites

The largest and most impressive of all MSC's cabins are the Owner's Suites found in the Yacht Club. Offering an impressive 840 to 1,119 square feet — larger than some land-based apartments — plus 269- to 670-square-foot balconies, they're some of the most luxurious rooms afloat.

Specific amenities vary by ship, but as an example, Owner's Suites on MSC World Europa offer floor-to-ceiling windows and walk-in closets. These accommodations on both the line's Seaside and World Class vessels also feature bathrooms with separate showers and bathtubs, as well as private whirlpool tubs and separate living room areas.

Bottom line

Although MSC Cruises' cabin types are straightforward, the line's add-on experiences can complicate things a bit.

Overall, what's key to remember is that MSC Cruises offers a wide variety of rooms and pricing to meet just about any budget or style of cruising. Each ship will offer accommodation choices from the least expensive, bare-bones interior rooms to the priciest suites, which come with butler and concierge services.

When you sail with MSC Cruises, you can expect function, style and comfort, regardless of the cabin type you book.
