Sunreef to expand workforce

The luxury catamaran manufacturer is expanding its production workforce in both Poland and the UAE.

Sunreef Yachts plans to increase its workforce across its two production sites in Poland by 15 per cent in 2024, while also doubling its staff at its third facility, in the UAE. Last year, Sunreef delivered 80 per cent more units than in 2021, as it starts to regularly launch models from its new Eco series of solar-electric catamarans, and revealed a 40 per cent growth in revenue over two years.

Francis Lapp founded Sunreef in Gdansk in 2002 and the luxury catamaran manufacturer still uses its original site at the historic Gdansk Shipyard due to production demand, which led to the company opening a larger facility further east along the Martwa Wisla river.

In total, the two facilities cover 125,000sqm and feature build halls with in-house carpentry, upholstery and stainless-steel workshops, as well as one of Europe’s largest computer numerical control (CNC) machines. The facility continues to evolve, with a high-tech paint shop added last year, while a 5,000sqm warehouse and production area is set to be completed in the coming months.

Last year, Sunreef also started operations at its new facility in the UAE , where it has a 65,000sqm land reserve in the northern emirate of Ras Al Khaimah . The new facility “ incorporates the latest technologies in luxury yacht building and meets the highest standards of sustainability and energy efficiency”, according to Sunreef.

Sunreef also has an office in Dubai, which had an official opening ceremony on the eve of the 2023 Dubai International Boat Show. The company’s dealers in Asia include Hong Seh Marine in Singapore, Lee Marine in Thailand, NextWave Yachting in Hong Kong and Speedo Marine in mainland China.

Positioned on 16 acres, the high-tech facility will feature the latest technologies in luxury yacht building, according to Sunreef. It will also be designed to meet the highest standards of sustainability. Sunreef says the Ras Al Khaimah yard will take a 360-degree approach to yacht manufacturing, with a modern paint shop, as well as carpentry, upholstery, and steel workshops. It will also be equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and robotics. The yard will also work with the specialists at the local Dubai office, creating a yachting think tank that can anticipate trends and devise concepts. Sunreef is working with port RAK Maritime City on the development and says the first manufacturing and CNC halls already nearing completion.

The UAE made the most strategic sense for Sunreef, with Ras Al Khaimah offering exceptional incentives, industry support, access to key markets, and solid transportation infrastructure. It will not only strengthen the company’s presence in the Middle East but also foster a stronger connection with Asia and Australia. As such, Sunreef will be able to introduce its range of eco-friendly multihulls to a wider global audience.

The first units to be produced in Ras Al Khaimah will be the hybrid Ultima cats, as well as the power and sail yachts ranging from 50 to 70 feet.

Sunreef Yachts inaugurates a new shipyard in UAE

Sunreef Yachts keeps on growing, determined to continue its global expansion strategy in the yachting sector. The Polish company , already the owner of two shipyards in Gdansk with over 125,000 square meters of industrial space, is currently constructing a new production facility in Ras Al Khaimah , UAE.

Set on a 65,000sqm land reserve , the new facility will incorporate the latest technologies in the construction of luxury yachts and will meet the highest standards of sustainability and energy efficiency. Sunreef Yachts is collaborating with RAK Maritime City to advance the development of the structure, which will offer a comprehensive 360-degree approach to yacht production with a modern painting department, carpentry, upholstery, and workshops for stainless steel, all equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and the latest robotics. The first production sheds and CNC facilities are already in the completion phase.

Ras Al Khaimah, an important crossroads between the West and the East, was chosen by Sunreef Yachts due to exceptional government incentives for the industry and the ease of access to key markets and existing transportation infrastructure in the city of the United Arab Emirates.

The new Ras Al Khaimah facility is an important part of Sunreef Yachts’ global expansion strategy that will not only strengthen the company’s presence in the Middle East, but also allow a stronger connection with the Asian and Australian markets. And with the company’s two existing manufacturing sites in Poland, Sunreef Yachts is most definitely going global with its range of sustainable catamarans.

The first units built in Ras Al Khaimah by Sunreef Yachts will be the hybrid ULTIMA catamarans and motor and sailing catamarans from 50 to 70 feet in length.

The city of Gdansk

The first two Sunreef Yachts shipyards are located in the city of Gdansk – a dynamic seafaring city with a strong economy and long naval building traditions. The company opened its doors in 2002, in the heart of the old Gdansk Shipyard – a historic place that witnessed the birth of Solidarity and its victory over the communist regime.

Sunreef Yachts expanded its production capacity and decided to adapt to a growing demand with the second location in Gdańsk. The ultramodern production site is equipped with cutting-edge machinery including Europe’s largest CNC machine. All the composite, carpentry, upholstery, and paint work are carried-out within one infrastructure for maximum quality and efficiency.

Infrastructure

Sunreef Yachts has easy access to the most optimal infrastructures: a 300-ton floating crane, which can lift yachts up to 210 ft, in-house workshops and above all – the most experienced craftsmen. The yacht manufacturing facility also provides a comprehensive mechanical, electrical and electronic service. There is also a dry and warm storage space for storing materials while the yacht is under construction, which is very convenient for any captain or project manager.

A New shipyard

In 2022, Sunreef Yachts acquired a 65,000m 2 land reserved for opening its first overseas shipyard in Ras Al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. Additionally, in response to the rising demands from the markets of Middle East, Asia, and Australia, the company also inaugurated a new office in the iconic Palm Jumeriah, Dubai.

On February 28, 2023, Sunreef Yachts officially inaugurated the company’s new Dubai office. It is located on the Palm Jumeirah West Marina, and it gathers an international team of professionals including sales representatives, designers, engineers, architects, and marketing department. The office will be a ‘yachting think tank’ with a mission to create new trends and come up with creative solutions to further develop the concept of responsible and sustainable yachting.

With two manufacturing sites in Poland and an emerging facility in Ras Al Khaimah, Sunreef Yachts is gaining a global reach for its range of sustainable catamarans.

Crew Information

Captain: John (Jack) Gorman

CAPTAIN Captain Jack was born and raised in Maryland sailing the waters of the Chesapeake. He started sailing as a young boy with his father. He studied at the University of Maryland and served in the US Navy. Jack has a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and was trained in the Navy's Nuclear Power Program were he served on Submarines. After leaving the Navy, Jack worked as a Nuclear Engineering consultant for 14 years during which time he obtained a Master's in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University. Jack built sea miles in the Navy, and doing deliveries and passages throughout his years in the corporate world. Finally, Jack decided to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a sea Captain and left the US. Jack sailed, single handed, across the Atlantic and has completed many other crossings and long distance deliveries. Jack has also skippered numerous recreational vessels, including day sail vessels, dive boats, as well as working on Tall Ships. Jack is passionate about being on the water. He has spent the past 12 years in the Caribbean working in the private yacht industry, running day charters and Captaining term charter vessels with up to 10 guests. Jack is also qualified Dive Master. Jack has a contagious joy for life. If you are looking for a fun, exhilerating yet luxurious vacation that is exactly what you will get with the SOL team. CHEF Mallory grew up in Kawkawlin, Michigan spending her summers sailing on the Great lakes. She graduated from Johnson and Wales University with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant management and a concentration in Sales, meeting and event management. After graduation she managed a romantic Inn in Asheville, NC, anf went on to manage and chef in restaurants, catering companies and restaurant development. She loves to sail, free dive, water ski, scuba, and cook and travel. She has been a successful yacht chef since 2013 and obtained her Yachtmaster, Aida 2 Free diving certification and Rescue scuba Diving during this time. CHEF Sara was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. Although seemingly landlocked she enjoyed spending summers at the family lake cabin in nearby Minnesota. Her parents raised her amongst many friends and family, always entertaining guests. Instilling a warm sense of hospitality in her personality from a young age. Having been raised on a farm, surrounded by agriculture and produce from the garden, her relationship with food has always been an important one. She is passionate about knowing where food comes from, and sources the freshest, locally grown produce and freshly caught fish. With over 6 years experience cooking aboard yachts, a yacht chef certificate, and a year cooking privately land-based, Sara is thrilled and ready to welcome guests aboard Sol for a sensory experience. STEWARDESS Blake is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She grew up spending time cruising the many beautiful lakes and developing a respect for the outdoors. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas where she studied business management and the Spanish language. With dreams of seeing a different part of the world (and a chance encounter with a group of awesome seafarers while traveling Europe), she would move to Croatia every summer to work as a chef/sole stewardess on small sailing boats, a position she enjoyed for 3 summers. She loved it so much she decided to move to the Caribbean and make it her career. Blake is elated to now be joining the Sol team. Her pleasant, “Minnesota Nice” demeanor and charming personality make her a wonderful Stewardess, ready to greet and care for guests. She loves to whip up cocktails, share wild travel stories, and will make you feel right at home!

He studied at the University of Maryland and served in the US Navy. Jack has a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and was trained in the Navy's Nuclear Power Program were he served on Submarines.<br /> After leaving the Navy, Jack worked as a Nuclear Engineering consultant for 14 years during which time he obtained a Master's in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University. Jack built sea miles in the Navy, and doing deliveries and passages throughout his years in the corporate world. Finally, Jack decided to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a sea Captain and left the US. Jack sailed, single handed, across the Atlantic and has completed many other crossings and long distance deliveries. Jack has also skippered numerous recreational vessels, including day sail vessels, dive boats, as well as working on Tall Ships. <br /> Jack is passionate about being on the water. He has spent the past 12 years in the Caribbean working in the private yacht industry, running day charters and Captaining term charter vessels with up to 10 guests. After graduation she managed a romantic Inn in Asheville, NC, anf went on to manage and chef in restaurants, catering companies and restaurant development. She loves to sail, free dive, water ski, scuba, and cook and travel.<br /> <br /> She has been a successful yacht chef since 2013 and obtained her Yachtmaster, Aida 2 Free diving certification and Rescue scuba Diving during this time.<br /> <br /> CHEF<br /> Sara was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. Although seemingly landlocked she enjoyed spending summers at the family lake cabin in nearby Minnesota.<br /> <br /> Her parents raised her amongst many friends and family, always entertaining guests. Instilling a warm sense of hospitality in her personality from a young age.<br /> <br /> Having been raised on a farm, surrounded by agriculture and produce from the garden, her relationship with food has always been an important one. She is passionate about knowing where food comes from, and sources the freshest, locally grown produce and freshly caught fish.<br /> <br /> With over 6 years experience cooking aboard yachts, a yacht chef certificate, and a year cooking privately land-based, Sara is thrilled and ready to welcome guests aboard Sol for a sensory experience.<br /> <br /> STEWARDESS<br /> Blake is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She grew up spending time cruising the many beautiful lakes and developing a respect for the outdoors. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas where she studied business management and the Spanish language. With dreams of seeing a different part of the world (and a chance encounter with a group of awesome seafarers while traveling Europe), she would move to Croatia every summer to work as a chef/sole stewardess on small sailing boats, a position she enjoyed for 3 summers. Finally, Jack decided to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a sea Captain and left the US. After graduation she managed a romantic Inn in Asheville, NC, anf went on to manage and chef in restaurants, catering companies and restaurant development. She loves to sail, free dive, water ski, scuba, and cook and travel.<br /> <br /> She has been a successful yacht chef since 2013 and obtained her Yachtmaster, Aida 2 Free diving certification and Rescue scuba Diving during this time.<br /> <br /> CHEF<br /> Sara was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. Although seemingly landlocked she enjoyed spending summers at the family lake cabin in nearby Minnesota.<br /> <br /> Her parents raised her amongst many friends and family, always entertaining guests. He started sailing as a young boy with his father. He studied at the University of Maryland and served in the US Navy. Jack has a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and was trained in the Navy's Nuclear Power Program were he served on Submarines.<br /> After leaving the Navy, Jack worked as a Nuclear Engineering consultant for 14 years during which time he obtained a Master's in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University. Jack built sea miles in the Navy, and doing deliveries and passages throughout his years in the corporate world. Finally, Jack decided to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a sea Captain and left the US. Jack sailed, single handed, across the Atlantic and has completed many other crossings and long distance deliveries. Jack has also skippered numerous recreational vessels, including day sail vessels, dive boats, as well as working on Tall Ships. <br /> Jack is passionate about being on the water. He has spent the past 12 years in the Caribbean working in the private yacht industry, running day charters and Captaining term charter vessels with up to 10 guests. Jack is also qualified Dive Master. <br /> <br /> Jack has a contagious joy for life. If you are looking for a fun, exhilerating yet luxurious vacation that is exactly what you will get with the SOL team.<br /> <br /> CHEF<br /> Mallory grew up in Kawkawlin, Michigan spending her summers sailing on the Great lakes. She graduated from Johnson and Wales University with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant management and a concentration in Sales, meeting and event management. After graduation she managed a romantic Inn in Asheville, NC, anf went on to manage and chef in restaurants, catering companies and restaurant development. She loves to sail, free dive, water ski, scuba, and cook and travel.<br /> <br /> She has been a successful yacht chef since 2013 and obtained her Yachtmaster, Aida 2 Free diving certification and Rescue scuba Diving during this time.<br /> <br /> CHEF<br /> Sara was born and raised on a farm in North Dakota. Although seemingly landlocked she enjoyed spending summers at the family lake cabin in nearby Minnesota.<br /> <br /> Her parents raised her amongst many friends and family, always entertaining guests. Instilling a warm sense of hospitality in her personality from a young age.<br /> <br /> Having been raised on a farm, surrounded by agriculture and produce from the garden, her relationship with food has always been an important one. She is passionate about knowing where food comes from, and sources the freshest, locally grown produce and freshly caught fish.<br /> <br /> With over 6 years experience cooking aboard yachts, a yacht chef certificate, and a year cooking privately land-based, Sara is thrilled and ready to welcome guests aboard Sol for a sensory experience.<br /> <br /> STEWARDESS<br /> Blake is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She grew up spending time cruising the many beautiful lakes and developing a respect for the outdoors. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas where she studied business management and the Spanish language. With dreams of seeing a different part of the world (and a chance encounter with a group of awesome seafarers while traveling Europe), she would move to Croatia every summer to work as a chef/sole stewardess on small sailing boats, a position she enjoyed for 3 summers. She loved it so much she decided to move to the Caribbean and make it her career. <br /> Blake is elated to now be joining the Sol team. Her pleasant, “Minnesota Nice” demeanor and charming personality make her a wonderful Stewardess, ready to greet and care for guests. She loves to whip up cocktails, share wild travel stories, and will make you feel right at home!<br /> <br /> ENGINEER/DECK<br /> Caroline grew up on the beach in Massachusetts, developing her love for the ocean and sailing as early as she can remember. After receiving her degree from Bridgewater State University, Caroline’s wanderlust took over and her passion for traveling began. Eight years ago she moved to St. Thomas and has been working in the charter industry ever since. From day sails to luxury term charters, Caroline has worked on a multitude of vessels sharing her love for sailing, water sports, and the Caribbean Sea with her guests.<br /> Besides Travel and Sailing, Caroline’s other great passion in life is Yoga. She received her 200hr RYT certification in Thailand and has been teaching multiple styles of yoga for the past five years. She is thrilled to offer a yoga program and to create custom classes onboard M/V Sol. <br /> When Caroline is not Sailing or doing yoga, she loves to hike, snorkel and create art.
