This week on the MLB Pipeline Podcast and in Jonathan Mayo’s inbox , the question came up: Is right-hander Chase Dollander the best pitching prospect in Rockies history? With the way he's pitching, there might not be much time left for the debate to rage on.

But no matter where you land in that debate, Dollander is certainly already in the conversation. And he definitely didn’t hurt his case Friday night.

The Rockies’ No. 2 prospect and No. 22 overall prospect enjoyed his latest in a string of dominant starts at Double-A Hartford, racking up 10 strikeouts across 5 2/3 scoreless innings in the Yard Goats’ 3-0 win over Binghamton at Dunkin' Park . Dollander allowed only three hits, struck out seven straight at one point, and generally dominated against a lineup featuring two Top 100 overall prospects in Jett Williams ( No. 56 ) and Ryan Clifford ( No. 80 ).

Dollander was coming off another 10-strikeout performance last time out against New Hampshire. On Friday, he became the first Yard Goats pitcher to record double-digit strikeouts in consecutive games.

“Going into the game, I kind of felt tired a little bit,” Dollander said after the game to Yard Goats broadcaster Dan Lovallo. “So it was just a matter of getting in the groove and finding my body. Once I did, it was a lot of fun.”

The 22-year-old righty sure hasn’t seemed tired very much in his first full season, after the Rockies selected him No. 9 overall in the 2023 Draft out of the University of Tennessee. He posted strong numbers in 14 starts at High-A Spokane, graduating to his Double-A debut on July 24. Dollander has been excellent in his first seven starts for the Yard Goats, pitching to a 1.43 ERA with 48 strikeouts across 37 2/3 innings.

All told, Dollander is 6-1 with a 2.34 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 159-42 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 107 2/3 innings this year across 21 total starts. He’s posted double-digit strikeout totals in six of those starts.

“I’ve got to give some credit to these fans,” he said. “They come out and show out for us, so it’s been a lot of fun. The guys behind me have been doing a great job with the defense. … I’ve been preparing for this. It’s just been about going out and executing my plan.”

Immediate success like this was exactly what the Rockies had planned when they snatched up Dollander with their top pick in the 2023 Draft, especially given how difficult its always been for the organization to develop pitching, and the immediate need for it at the big league level. Colorado has no reason to rush Dollander in his first full season, but if he finishes strong at Double-A, it’s not out of the realm of possibility for him to arrive in Denver in the first half of 2025 at some point.

At which point, he might find himself being compared to Rockies bests in a different category: homegrown pitcher.

Sailing Summer Camps with Eagle Harbour Yacht Club

Eagle Harbour Sailing Club

Spending the summer sailing the ocean blue seems like the stuff of fairy tales and an activity only attainable by the well-to-do. But when we live a hop, skip, and jump from the Pacific Ocean, how can we not be lured by the magic of the waves and experience a type of freedom found nowhere else? And when you have a fantastic sailing school offering week-long sailing camps starting at $360 per week, how can you say no?!

The setting for the sailing summer camp with Eagle Harbour Yacht Club couldn’t get more stunning! Eagle Harbour Yacht Club is located at the entrance to Howe Sound, in West Vancouver. From sheltered Eagle Harbour, sailors can learn to sail in one of the most beautiful areas of Vancouver.

The Eagle Harbour Yacht Club is passionate about getting kids onto the water. Their summer sailing camps provide a fantastic knowledge base for future sailors. The emphasis is on safety and fun with the ultimate objective being to develop a lifelong love of sailing in the summer camp participants. Whether your child is a seasoned pro or has never set toe on a sailboat before, Eagle Harbour Yacht Club has a summer camp that will suit them.

There is a wide variety of summer camps available which accommodate varying ages and sailing experience:

Wet Feet (Intro) – A gentle one-week introduction to sailing in Optimist dinghies for children 7-9 years of age with no sailing experience.

Opti Basic – Upon completion of Wet Feet, children 6-9 years of age can begin developing their sailing skills in Optimist dinghies during these one-week courses.

CANSail 1 – A two-week course for children 10+ years of age who are beginning their journey in sailing, using double-handed dinghies. This is an entry-level course for older children that teaches fundamental sailing skills including basic sheeting, steering, and boat handling on all points of sail. Upon completion, sailors can sail within defined boundaries set by an instructor.

CANSail 2 – A two-week course which builds on the skills learned in CANSail 1. This teaches sailors to adjust their bodies and boats for changes in direction and wind speed while sailing and to perform boat-handling maneuvers in a controlled manner while in a controlled setting.

CANSail 3 – A two-week intermediate sailing course that teaches sailors to integrate the fundamental boat handling maneuvers and balance with basic tactics and strategy as well as applied sail trim. Sailors are exposed to a greater variety of conditions and participate in a club race or club training camp.

CANSail 4 – A two-week advanced sailing course that teaches sailors to perform advanced boat handling maneuvers in a variety of conditions. Sailors can successfully execute maneuvers in competitive settings and for tactical and strategic purposes. Sailors participate in a one or two-day regatta.

  • Proper footwear (please no flip flops or open-toed shoes, shoes similar to Natives and Crocs are recommended)

west vancouver yacht club summer camp

Business name : West Vancouver Yacht Club

A yacht club is formed by a group of people with a common interest in using boats to get away from land and enjoy cruising local and distant waters, racing for the thrill of personal combat against other sailors and the elements, or just messing about on boats. In the children’s classic “The Wind in the Willows”, it is described thus: “There is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats…or with boats…in or out of ’em, it doesn’t matter.”

West Vancouver Yacht Club has just such beginnings and aspirations. Formed in 1945, the Club consisted of 45 people with only 6 boats between the lot of them. In 1946 the first Sailpast was held, and Club members and friends have been enjoying this annual event that starts the boating season every year since.

Humble beginnings, started by the dreams of a few, moved on to acquire the foreshore rights in Fisherman’s Cove in 1951 with a small cottage for a clubhouse. By 1963 the clubhouse you see overlooking the moorage was completed and then extensively updated in 2012. Much of the work carried out on Club projects is through members’ volunteering labour and expertise; volunteering is a mainstay of Club participation and camaraderie.

Many accomplishments over the years have contributed immensely to the enjoyment all the members have for “messing about in boats”. The annual Southern Straits Yacht Race brings sailors and boats to the Straits of Georgia to challenge each other in the boisterous spring weather conditions. Outstations have been added at Gambier Island and Kendrick Island and more recently with leased space in Pender Harbour and Telegraph Harbour. The Club sail training program, designed to help youngsters and adults become proficient in the skills of sailing, is now one of the premier such programs available to anyone in the community, not just Club members. To serve this program, the Sailing Center was built in 2002 as a focus for activity and learning in all aspects of small boat sailing.
