“Intrepid” is the most well-equipped Nordhavn 60 currently available on the brokerage market. From the moment you walk on board, her custom interior design is striking. When built, no expense was spared, from her twin engines to her extensive redundancy across systems, to her four-cabin design offering a purpose-built “passage” cabin, perfect also for families and friends. There are three heads in the Master, Guest (which with the door arrangement can be an ensuite to the Forward Guest Cabin), and also in the Pilothouse. Her highly upgraded interior is luxurious with its horizontal grain wood interior, Cherry plank floors (protected by carpeting), custom counter tops, inlays, lighting and extensive refrigeration and freezers.

“Intrepid” was originally delivered to her current owners in Hong Kong and then made the passage to Fiji on her own bottom with the owners taking final delivery in 2015. “Intrepid” has travelled extensively between Fiji, the South Pacific and New Zealand for the last few seasons. She is extremely well equipped with an expansive array of spares for those long ocean passages.

The aft deck is setup for fishing and the seating arrangement is aft facing, which allows for panoramic views of the exotic locations while relaxing, having a drink or meal. The salon ottomans allow comfortable seating for six around the foldout teak table and there is a custom dual Teppanyaki grill, icemaker, and live bait tank along with a sink unit.

The interior joinery work is done in a beautiful horizontal wood with a satin finish. The settees are all covered with ultra-leather material. You enter the salon by the way of a large Dutch door with both glass on top and bottom, a tremendous feeling of open space with the custom “L” shaped settee to port with a “high-low” dining table. Moving forward of the dining area is a Caesarstone breakfast bar with three (3) custom moveable stools that have storage space inside doubling also as counter seating and with matching exterior covers for deck dining. To starboard is cabinetry for storage and a large flat screen TV that stores out of sight on the starboard side of the salon and contains a beverage unit, freezer and extensive additional storage. A wet locker provides adequate storage for dive or wet weather gear. Pull-down shades hide behind the upgraded valances to provide an unobstructed view.

“Intrepid’s” Operation in 50HZ and 60Hz Environments

“Intrepid”, like all Nordhavns, is designed to operate off grid and can operate irrespective of AC voltage and frequency from shore power when on the dock. Nordhavns are by nature operated worldwide where there are essentially two different shore-based AC systems. A power converter could be used for the interface between the shore power and the boat, along with associated issues. In practice this has not been required with the design of the upgraded electrical system on “Intrepid”.

230VAC 50HZ Shore Power Available

Use the shore power inlets for the 230VAC 50HZ ship service bus and/or the 230VAC 50HZ HVAC service bus. Also, there is a separate shore power Inlet for two 100amp 24VDC battery chargers/power supplies that will accept any voltage and frequency. 

The ship service bus, HVAC bus, and inverter service bus can be fully powered from shore power if the shore power capacity is sufficient. If there is insufficient shore power capacity a generator may need to be operated for high power consumers.

All DC busses are powered via the batteries and inverter/battery chargers.

110/230VAC 60HZ Shore Power Available

• 230VAC 50HZ ship service bus and/or 230VAC 50HZ HVAC bus can be powered by 20KW or 10KW generator which are very quiet for operation at the dock

In practice the 6KW inverter service bus along with the 24VDC and 12VDC bus will power the boat for normal operation on the dock. Only when high power consumers like air-conditioning, oven, cooktop, water heater are required are one of the generators started.

When the boat is left unattended on the dock, all batteries will be charged and the DC busses and the AC inverter service bus will be powered. All bilge pumps, and monitoring systems will be powered.

Practical Aspects of 60HZ Operation

A number of the docks (unless you pay for an extra-large berth if available) do not have the capacity to power the high-power consumers like air-conditioning, ovens and cooktops irrespective of the type of shore power, so the generator is run for these functions anyway. This gives the generator a run and the cost of running the generator is often less than the shore power charge.

While the appliances such as coffee makers, toasters etc. are 230VAC, if they fail or need to be replaced, they are available anywhere in the world with online ordering. If they fail in a remote isolated location, it doesn’t matter what power they require, they will be unavailable unless spare units are on board. As these appliances are relatively inexpensive so it is practical to carry spare units. Chargers for phones computers etc. are multi voltage and frequency.

If 110VAC is required at some outlets it would be easy to fit a stepdown transformer like used for the Sub-Zero refrigerator on the outlets’ power supply at the main panel or fit a 110VAC 60HZ inverter.

The voltage and frequency is not a problem if the boat is off grid at anchor. 50HZ and 60HZ shore power along with the solar panels can be used if the boat is at the dock. If the shore power is 60HZ, then for most of the time shore power and solar panels are used. Only when high power consumers are required is a generator used which occurs more often than not with 50HZ shore power as well.

This 2012 is a one owner vessel with very low hours due to several factors. This boat was a show boat for Nordhavn to enter into the sport fishing market. The boat was sold to this the original owner in the Fall of 2019. ONLY 180 HOURS ON THE VESSEL! Like new condition.

NORDHAVN 60 FOR SALE - SOLD

The original owner commissioned the construction of this superb vessel using his experience gained from a lifetime of boat ownership but in particular using the knowledge gained from owning Nordhavn 55 hull#39. This is the first Nordhavn 60 to have:

• an extended boat deck covering the entire cockpit
• an ensuite crew cabin just forward of the engine room
• a dedicated entrance and starircase from the side-deck to this crew cabin cq the engine room
• the internal staircase to the engine room and the forward staircase to the GSR were eliminated creating more internal usable space and a full width pilot house console
• a bustle below the extended swim platform was also specified to eliminate annoying wave slap while at anchor
• The cabin aft of the pilot house is fully enclosed and redesigned to include a more usable ensuite and is used as a guest cabin/captain cabin
• Most importantly: An extra four ton of external ballast was fitted to comply with the strict European CE Category “A” rating for ocean going vessels.

All cupboard doors are shoji style throughout  Shogun , contrasting the vast areas of cherry wood.

Sisal and wool carpet covers the wide teak plank flooring.

Timber used throughout the interior is gloss light cherry with the grain running horizontally giving a more spacious feel to the interior.

This is further enhanced by a full height glass rear door with cherry wood lining.

Master Stateroom The ensuite Master Stateroom port of the offset hallway has full length hanging wardrobe

and shelves on the aft bulkhead. A 36 inch Samsung TV is in a recess on the starboard bulkhead to access the satellite TV and media center.

The master stateroom head has a Tecma full size toilet with bidet, the floor is wide teak planking, white ceaserstone vanity top and Italian mosaic tiles, shoji screens cover the vanity lights.

High quality Zack fittings are used at all the heads (4).

Thermostatically controlled Grohe shower fittings with large shower heads are present in the MSR and GSR.

Guest Stateroom Forward is the Guest Stateroom with ensuite to starboard with the same high quality fittings as the master stateroom, a pocket door can be slid across to separate the cabin from the head when necessary, once again shoji screens are present on the 2 hanging wardrobes and forward overhead lockers, a cherry framed beveled mirror is above the bed head, reading lights are touch activated Cantilupi Mosca, a 32 inch Samsung TV is in a recess on the aft bulkhead connected with sat TV and media center.

Forward Machinery Room.

Through a hatch in the floor of the guest cabin is the machinery area containing:

** the Mach 5 domestic water pump,

** high pressure deck wash pump,

** Village Marine STW 600 water maker,

** distribution manifold for hot and cold domestic water

** and shelves for storage.

Pilot House

The single internal staircase leads up to the vast pilot house with a high-end chrome accented Stidd helm chair.

Raymarine G series is the heart of the sophisticated electronics package which includes 2 radars, 2 autopilots and a Flir T400 duel lens night vision camera.

Further: Barigo clinometer and magnetic compass, a cherry wood full width handrail is located above the helm chair, cherry wood steering wheel.

The upper and lower panels in the pilot house console are fitted with piano hinges along the bottom and retaining chains to allow easy access to the rear of the electronics. 

Forward Deck

The forward deck has flush hatches and is covered by Tek Dek,.

** a Maxwell 3500 electric winch with tall capstan and

** a Maxell 3500 tall capstan primary hydraulic winch. 120 meters of ½ inch shortlink chain attaches to a 100 KG Ultra anchor with an Ultra flip swivel.

A Fortress FX 125 with 200 feet of rode is mounted on the custom widened and heightened pulpit. The forward mast has a forward anchor light and fittings for

the anchor ball and club burgee.

An anchor snubber with spectra rope is on the shelf in the anchor locker.

Aft Boat Deck

The aft boat deck is completely free for entertaining with built in electri-chef BBQ, a sink and a refrigerator in a console with ceaserstone worktop. Tek Dek covers this area.

On the extended boat deck athwart-ship is a Zodiac 420 yachtline deluxe equipped with a 50 HP Yamaha outboard, sounder, VHF radio, bilge pump towing mast etc.

Aft and athwart-ship of the Zodiac is an Opacmare fully hydraulic davit with an SWL of 1100 KG. The Zodiac can be launched to port, starboard and aft.

This part of the boat deck also stores the Zodiac Life-raft.

A canopy on solid removable stainless steel poles covers the entertaining area of the boat deck.

High pressure water outlet and compressor outlet can be found on the boat deck.

Due to the absence of the for-deck stairs from the passageway the boat deck can be accessed from both pilot house doors.

The increased incline stairs leads to the fly bridge, where a high-end chrome accented Stidd chair is central to the fly bridge. The console houses some separate and some duplicate instruments linked to the pilothouse.

A central table and seating area completes the flybridge.

The hard-top holds the radars while the mast aft holds the two KVH V-Sat 7 and

a KVH M9 satTV antenna. One V-SAT 7 dome is a dummy and holding several aerials.

As Shogun is using wet exhaust systems for its twin engines, the stack area on the flybridge is used for storing long items such as the tender whips, fishing outriggers extra boat hooks etc.

Engine room

The engine room contains:

** 2 lugger L1066T diesels of 170 HP each (6-2018: 1150 hours).

** a 20 KW Northern Lights generator equipped with a PTO=hydraulic pump (1350H).

** and a Lombardini 60HP diesel power pack driving an hydraulic pump (100H).

Boss Seatorque propeller shaft drives eliminate vibration and drag.

All oil & fuel distribution manifolds are easy accessible and easy to understand.

The ABT Trac 300 series for underway and at for STAR: STabilizer At Rest.

These stabilizer units are more powerful than the normal 250 series fitted to this size boat.

The actuators are located in the engine room and thus eliminating noise in the living quarters when in use while at anchor.

The Lombardini power pack (LPP) can be used in many ways:

** If the load to the generator is increased while at anchor due to the STAR function, it can take over driving the stabilizers and thus eliminating the need for the generator hydraulic pump which can consume up to 6KW of power.

** Supplying full power to the thrusters ( x2) when berthing in strong wind conditions. The RPM automatically increase from 1800 to 2700 when a thruster is engaged this ensures that while the main engines are only at idle and the LPP hydraulic pump is on, maximum thrust is obtained at both the stern and bow thrusters.

** An optional hydraulic driven generator could be installed.

Aft Cockpit

The aft cockpit has a high gloss teak table that can be folded out to accommodate up to 8 guests.

A curved staircase leads up to the boat deck from this area, plinths on either side support the Maxwell 2200 mooring winches and oversized cleats, custom fabricated hawshole in the stern quarters make for easy Med mooring.

A large drawer refrigerator is below the settee.

The scuppers on deck level have been designed to let water out only and not in.

An electrically operated hatch leads down to the spacious lazarette.

This area contains the air conditioning compressors, an air compressor for the Kahlenberg D2 air horn and deck and engine room outlets, batteries and hydraulic bilge pump, twin Victron 3000 inverter chargers, 100 liter water heater to name a few items.

Swim Platform

There are 2 aft doors leading to the extended Tek Dek covered swim platform with stainless steel staples with rod holders, fittings on the outboard aft most boat deck uprights hold either the tender whips or fishing outriggers.

The starboard door provides direct access to the swim platform while the port door provides access to the 3 stage rotating Opacmare passerelle.

Starboard passageway.

A door midships of the passageway will allow easy access if moored alongside a marina pontoon.

The starboard passageway leads to the door giving entrance down a set of stairs to the air conditioned crew cabin and engine room.

Crew Cabin.

The crew cabin has a ¾ bed fore and aft with drawers underneath. A large 3 drawer duchess is on the forward bulkhead.

To starboard is the head with a Tecma electric toilet with bidet, a shower and hand basin.

A pipe cot is housed in an athwartship box above the duchess.

A door leading aft from the crew cabin gives access to the engine room where an escape hatch is located leading up to the salon.

Some like boats, trains or planes. For this Avon man, it's all about school buses.

Nick Whitlow still has the picture from his first kindergarten school bus ride. He's holding onto the handrail while wearing a backpack, and the world's largest smile. The picture sits nestled in a box near other memorabilia, paintings and trinkets detailing his love of transportation — specifically his love for school buses.

"I was obsessed from the get-go," he said with a laugh. "Some people like motorcycles. Some people like sports cars. Some people like boats, trains or planes. It's school buses for me, 100%.”

That's why it was no surprise that when Whitlow graduated from Avon Community Schools in 2017, he immediately began pursuing his career as a school bus driver.

Whitlow spent the next three years as a bus aide for Brownsburg Community Schools. When he turned 21, the legal age to drive a school bus in Indiana, he picked up a route of his own and drove one year for Brownsburg before shifting gears and joining the transportation team at Avon Schools. Whitlow is a standby driver, filling in for drivers who miss a shift, which he prefers.

"I enjoy being on standby because there's that variety," he said, entering his fourth year in Avon. "I love getting to drive all the different types of buses. And you get to talk to different kids."

Aside from his driving duties, Whitlow takes students to extracurricular activities and also teaches new drivers the commercial driver's license (CDL) ropes. From bus alarms and pre-trip checklists to road safety, Whitlow hopes trainees leave with at least some of his passion for driving school buses.

By memory, Whitlow knows all the local bus routes. He can also still recite the names of all his childhood school bus drivers. He's even driven alongside a few of them in his Avon role and it's something he cherishes deeply.

Whitlow acknowledges not everyone can drive a 40-foot school bus but he says that's what makes them so appealing. Avon Schools has approximately 100 bus drivers and more than 130 buses.

On a recent trip that took him down Dan Jones Road in Avon through traffic, Whitlow maneuvered around multiple roundabouts without even coming close to the white lane lines. It's his superpower and says he feels for bus drivers in Carmel, as red lights can be a nice respite and also a chance to reflect.

“There is no greater realization of the importance of what you’re doing,” Whitlow said, “than when you’re stopped at a red light and you look up in your mirror and you see 60, 70 kids staring at you all counting on me to get them home safely.”

When not in the driver's seat, Whitlow can be found traveling the country using public transportation. He enjoys New York City's subway, Chicago's "L" rail system, city buses and recently took a 52-hour Amtrak trip to San Francisco. All of which he says helps him become part of the city he's visiting.

As the end of summer, spring and fall breaks near, Whitlow grows more and more eager to return to work. There's just something about being in the driver's seat that brings him comfort and happiness. Sometimes he says it's just seeing and hearing from the students who take a minute out of their day to say, "Hi Mr. Nick!"

At 25, Whitlow knows he still has his whole future in front of him but he can't image himself doing anything different.

"Maybe I will get tired of it one day," he said ahead of a three-hour trip to southern Indiana. "I don't know what my future holds but I know that bus driving will always have a piece of my heart, and I wouldn't be surprised if I drive a bus for another 60 years."
