Layout [ edit ]

In this Ghost House level, the rooms and objects slowly swing back and forth constantly, sometimes moving along with the screen when scrolled. The level begins next to a wall of Brick Blocks blocking a Warp Door . The screen scrolls left, where a Boo , a ? Block containing a power-up, and a P Switch are found. The P Switch causes Blue Coins to appear, and also turns the Brick Blocks into coins , allowing the Warp Door to be reached. The room that follows contains a pole, as well as ? Blocks and Brick Blocks that move as the screen scrolls up and down. There are two Warp Doors, which can be entered when the blocks line up with them. The bottom door leads to an area with a P Switch, causing Blue Coins to appear and turning Brick Blocks into coins. The top Warp Door leads to a room with more scrolling blocks. A P Switch is present, which allows the player to access a Warp Door located in the wall to the right. The next room has Warp Doors, as well as a moving row of coins that can be turned into Brick Blocks, allowing access to the doors. A Warp Door hidden in the wall leads to an area with a row of coins and a P Switch. The P Switch turns the coins into Brick Blocks, which move upwards whenever the player jumps. Big Boos and Circling Boo Buddies are encountered. The Warp Door at the top of the area leads to the Goal Pole .

Star Coins [ edit ]

  • Star Coin 1 : In the very first room, a P Switch must be activated in order to enter the wall and grab the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 2 : In the third room, the player must enter the lower-left door. In the next room, the player should activate the P Switch, then run to the end of the room to use the Brick Blocks to reach the second Star Coin before the bricks turn back into Coins .
  • Star Coin 3 : The player must be on the path to get the secret exit to obtain this. The first room on the secret exit path autoscrolls. The player must then use the P Switch to work their way through the room. If there is still some time left in the P Switch, the player must immediately Wall Jump their way up to the third Star Coin before the bricks revert back to coins.

Secret exit [ edit ]

In the fifth room, the player must once again hit the P Switch to turn the row of coins into Brick Blocks. If the player jumps fast enough, the player can discover a door hidden in the ceiling. Alternatively, a P-Acorn can be used to get to the top of the room, ignoring the intended gimmick. Furthermore, if multiple players are present, they can bounce on each other's heads to boost one of them into the secret area: three players without power-ups or two players if the upper player has a Super Acorn or is Peachette . Once on the secret path, the player proceeds through one autoscrolling room before reaching the door to the flag area.

New Super Mario Bros. U – Star Coins Walkthrough and Guide

Follow our New Super Mario Bros. U Star Coins guide and walkthrough as we reveal every hidden Star Coin in each of the nine worlds.

Coming in as a Nintendo Wii U launch title, New Super Mario Bros. U was released on November 18, 2012. Just a mere three months after the previous installment on the 3DS! You had the expected four-player multiplayer mode, the Boost Mode where players tapped blocks into the level using the GamePad, a seamless world map, and new power-ups like the Super Acorn and three Baby Yoshis with light, fight, and bubble abilities. Kind of adorable!

Our New Super Mario Bros. U Star Coins guide is fairly simple. Use the nifty table below to jump to each world, otherwise find the specific level in the list underneath.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Star Coins guide

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Star Coins guide

Find every Star Coin in the game

All Stories

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Acorn Plains Star Coins guide

Polygon’s New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Star Coins guides show you the location of all three Star Coins in every level of every world in the Nintendo Switch game’s main campaign.

Each world has its own guide, and each level within those worlds has its own section. At the bottom of every guide, you’ll see a version of the same table of contents that appears above. That’ll make it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for and navigate through our guides and the game at the same time.

Here’s how they all look and work:

  • Every level in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe has a big, bold header.
  • Underneath the header, you’ll see a gallery. Every Star Coin has at least one image. If it’s difficult to find, then the Star Coin has more than one image. Either way, all you need to do is navigate through the gallery to find what you’re looking for.
  • Underneath the gallery, you’ll find a short paragraph of text that tells you how to find each of the three Star Coins.

World 7-Ghost House

Star coin 1.

this one's right under the entrance. Lead the Broozer over to punch out the bricks, then grab the coin or use a barrel to do the dirty work for you.

Star Coin 2

At the bottom of the long shaft with all the Boos, enter the upper right door. In this room, lead the Big Boo away from the center to reveal a coin.

Star Coin 3

Just below the second Broozer is a secret area. It's much like the one with the first coin, but you can't see the bricks blocking it. Lead the Broozer down and then through the invisible barrier to bust it (just stand over the secret area and the Broozer will run into it). Lead the Broozer back out and enter the secret door. Climb the shaft using the P-Switches and platforms. You'll also need to hit some bricks to summon beanstalks that will take you higher. Enter the door at the very top. You'll be dropped outside but don't head of the flag just yet.

Enter the lower door to find the final coin. In this secret area, hit the P-Switch and use the platform to access the coin.

Secret Goal to World 7-5

Just below the second Broozer is a secret area. It's much like the one with the first coin, but you can't see the bricks blocking it. Lead the Broozer down and then through the invisible barrier to bust it (just stand over the secret area and the Broozer will run into it). Lead the Broozer back out and enter the secret door.

Climb the shaft using the P-Switches and platforms. You'll also need to hit some bricks to summon beanstalks that will take you higher. Enter the door at the very top. Run all the way to the right to find the red secret exit flag!
