Sun, sea and slammers: ION festival brought ferocious warehouse energy to the 'Albanian Riviera'

The long-awaited Ionian debut from LWE added a distinctly industrial flavour to Dhërmi's festival haven — but don't call it "Junction 2 abroad"

  • Words: Gemma Ross | Photos: Jake Davis & Daisy Denham
  • 9 November 2022

There’s a little-known proverb in Albania which translates to: “He who is not drunk on a Sunday, is not worth a greeting on Monday.” But no matter how much we trawled through the big book of Albanian sayings, we didn't see anything about he who drinks for seven days straight.

Featuring silver sands, toy-town cafes and a sprawling turquoise coastline that stretches all the way to the Greek isles; the charming town of Dhërmi is nestled at Albania's southernmost point. Up until 2018, it was a place only frequented by sun-starved Albanians from further inland — but since the introduction of KALA and a series of other British-built holiday-slash-festivals to the town, it's quickly become one of Europe's festival hot spots. Three years in the making, another is finally taking its place on the Vlorë County festival calendar; a new seven-dayer from London promoters LWE : ION . Taking place across an entire week in September, ION is as much an endurance test as it is a retreat for the once-durable raver. Since its inception in 2019, it's seen two postponements due to the pandemic: once in 2020, and again in 2021. Despite setbacks, the inaugural ION is finally getting its big Ionian moment.

ion festival yacht club

Dotted between historic islands that were once the home of Julius Caesar and his legions during his pursuit of Pompey, the festival’s seven stages — two of which are off-site — all envelop the area without ever looking obtrusive, or eating into the small fishing village upon which the festival sits. From the daytime hotspot of The Cove, where punters take the opportunity to dip into Dhërmi’s temperate waters to the underground cavern of The Bunker which opens for just one of the festival's seven nights, ION’s array of stages keeps things interesting, especially considering the length of the festival. Rumours around the festival circulate about an eighth stage in a submarine bunker along the coast — but due to escalating tensions in the nearby Baltics, it's reported to be in use housing underwater vehicles.

With nearly 100 artists including the likes of Chaos In The CBD , George FitzGerald , Helena Hauff , and the Hessle Audio crew scheduled to play across each stage — many of whom stay the length of the week-long party to perform multiple times — ION was always shaping to be a good one. Kicking off on the Wednesday, ION Soundsystem brings through a handful of best-loved selectors to warm-up The Cove stage, which by evening, turns the beach lull into a frenetic dancefloor. By Friday, the party is in full motion as most of the festival’s 3,000 attendees arrive and settle into their nearby accommodations throughout the village. Madam X takes over the late-night slot at The Yacht Club, a boat-shaped decking which hangs over the crystal shoreline, and helps tease the crowds through the door shelling out bass-heavy hitters. Shortly follows Hessle boss Pangaea , who keeps the beachside party alive into the small hours.

ion festival yacht club

When Saturday rolls around, the tech-leaning offerings make way for a few house, disco, and electro heads — including Dan Shake , Jennifer Cardini , and DJ Stingray 313 . There’s a run of techno heavyweights over on the festival’s main stage too, a spacious multi-level area made more impressive by the seascape that backs it. By day, this area plays host to the festival’s wellness programme in an effort to counter the effects of those late-night (or early morning) shenanigans. Punters are invited to take part in hour-long yoga sessions overlooking the beach, or the less frequented " cacao experience " where attendees can try raw cacao, famed for it's natural stimulant properties.

Though this hedonistic week-long paradise is LWE’s first in this location (or abroad, for that matter), it plays to the strengths of the UK-based organisers who handle events at venues including Printworks , Tobacco Dock, and London's Junction 2 festival. This isn’t LWE's first rodeo, director Will Harold tells us as the sun sets over ION. “We thought to ourselves, 'why don’t we try putting Junction 2 abroad?’,” he explains. “We didn’t want it to be Junction 2 as such, because that festival already has its home in that location. But this is essentially what the festival could be when taken overseas."

ion festival yacht club

When the conversation turns to location festival sites - think Tisno’s The Garden , Pula’s Fort Punta Christo , and Malta’s UNO - it’s apparent that this quickly evolving area is following suit. “I think that’s where we’re headed,” he says. “The hardest part of this is transport, but with the new airport being built, it’s getting better and we’re in the right place for it. When you fly in, do an hour’s transfer, and get here, it’ll make the experience better and bring more tourists to the area. Locals see the positivity in these festivals because their season is about a month-long here,” he says. On the same site, the increasingly beloved KALA festival takes place annually, as well as a festival from the seminal London record label Anjunadeep , first launching on the 'Albanian Riviera' in 2019.

“These events are bringing international people out for double the usual season, it’s opening things up. The long-term view is that people like us will think in 20 or 30 years, ‘you know what? I might go back to that place for a holiday’,” Harold continues. Though the organisers appear to have brought their crowd with them, a predominantly British mustering, it’s not to say that they aren’t developing tastes across the country, too. Ahead of the event, ION hosted a launch party in Albania’s capital of Tirana featuring local performers, and made sure to employ local staff to create jobs and help develop the area around the festival site.

ion festival yacht club

It’s not just the immediate areas that this festival is helping to develop — ION’s two off-site stages offer other local areas a shining light. The Fort, a 19th-century castle on Porto Palermo beach is just a bus ride away from the site and serves as a rustic backdrop to each ticketed event. A stone’s throw in the opposite direction, Gjipe Beach hosts The Canyon stage, nestled between two giant cliff faces off the beach in a stunning cove. This stage requires attendees to travel via a choppy boat ride from site to site.

When Batu arrives at The Canyon on Sunday afternoon to take on a four-hour takeover following KT’s ethereal electro set, the sun beats down hard against the dusty planes. It’s a secluded, isolated spot surrounded by dramatic soaring cliffs — off which the Timedance boss' off-kilter selections bounce through the valley. “Once I got started it was really hot, but I noticed that people were going for a swim to cool down and then coming back later, so it was nice to roll through fairly gentle stuff at first and ease people in,” Batu tells Mixmag following his Canyon showcase. “When the sun went down, people got more focused on the music. It felt like I had a lot of freedom and it was surprisingly hype. I love those surprises, when you're not expecting a crowd to give so much energy.”

ion festival yacht club

Back on land, the Monday wind-down gets started with a playful set from Manami , who soundtracks the beach with a run of cheeky edits — 'Hollaback Girl' and the 'Macarena' prove particular favourites — before a star-studded evening line-up. It’s the last big night for most, and the energy six nights in continues skyward. The Bunker opens up for one-night-only, ION’s seventh stage featuring a bill of big-league techno favourites including Jeff Mills and Dax J in the throes of an underground car park — a sweatbox, if you’ve ever known one. The party continues sub-surface until 6:AM as the sun rises elsewhere, over the likes of Nicolas Lutz , Bambounou , and Ben UFO .

ION Festival feels wildly triumphant just one year in, and despite the fact that this is the organiser’s very first attempt at overseas production, there are seemingly few teething problems or hitches that have left it feeling like a novice event. Whether that was helped by the learning curves of its sister festival KALA, or the years of experience from LWE, it's a clear attempt to make something a little different from other established events taking shape in this location.

Perhaps the combination of a scenic location, good crowd, and prestigious warehouse-leaning line-up that helped set apart this year’s festival from Anjunadeep, KALA, and any other beachside festival in Europe for that matter, all made for the perfect storm. What we do know, is that this festival feels like it’s been here many a year already, and in its short tenure, ION could be the organiser’s most promising event yet.

ION Festival next takes place from September 6 - 13, 2023. Sign up here for early access tickets.

'ION Festival in Albania isn't just about music - amazing views, yoga and more await'

ION's week-long festival in Albania was held at the end of September on a hidden coastline and was the perfect celebration to mark the end of summer

Yacht Club, part pier, part stage and part bar, strutted over the sea

  • 16:46, 7 Oct 2022
  • Updated 16:50, 7 Oct 2022

Getting to Dhërmi in Albania is no easy feat as the country has just one fully functioning international airport which is a four-hour drive - but that was our destination as we headed to ION Festival.

The drive is full of winding roads with scenic views - it's no surprise that it once lured Top Gear for filming.

But once the car sickness subsided and the Ionian sea came into view, we soon realised this small resort village teeming with affable locals was a gem on an under-explored coastline.

Arriving in Dhërmi on Thursday night, it was surprising to see the oft-sleepy town embracing Brits hungry for a party with open arms.

All the restaurants along the Dhërmi seafront form part of the festival, local DJs were playing and the family-run hotels appeared to relish the influx of tourism.

Like most of the events industry, ION was plagued by Covid and its inception was delayed by two years until this summer.

For many of the 2,000-odd revellers decamping to ION, it was their first festival after a long hiatus and the excitement of experiencing the magic together for the first time was palpable.

It's smaller than other festivals, but that means the site never feels overcrowded; queues for toilets and bars were minimal and there was a sense of intimacy as you continued to run into friends both old and new throughout the week.

There is much more at ION than solely music. Wellness activities, curated by Arkana Yoga, which you would not usually find at an electronic music festival were available every day.

Days began with shoreside restorative yoga and the sun went down with Shamanic rituals by Mexican ‘Root of the Gods’.

Closed to outsiders for much of the 20th century, Albania was long the Mediterranean's forgotten outpost.

While Albania is not free from its troubles, its reign of brutal communism is over and the country is seeing a surge in visitors who long for a cheaper alternative to Greece or the Balearics. Corfu Town is around 20 miles across the sea.

Skyscanner saw close to a 50 per cent rise in bookings for flights from the UK to its capital compared with 2019.

The beaches rival any in the Mediterranean and for seven days played host to some of the biggest names in the electronic music scene.

The largest beach was home to the main stage, with the Ceraunian Mountains giving a dramatic backdrop to whichever DJ was playing that night.

Then there was the Yacht Club, part pier, part stage and part bar, strutted over the sea.

Being close to 30 weeks pregnant did not stop Canadian Baby T from playing an impressive hardcore techno set at the beachside Deck stage, with a full moon casting its light over the sea.

Days were spent on the Cove, a stage on a small beach where craggy rock faces acted as drinks holders and the chilled music catered for sore heads from the night before.

“It is paradise here. It takes a long time to get here but that's part of the journey”, London-based producer Daniel Avery who played one of his three sets on the rooftop of Porto Palermo Castle, a 19th-century abandoned fortress, told The Mirror.

He continued: “Being given the opportunity to show different sides of yourself as a DJ is really special and to do it in a place like this does not get much better than that.”

Monday could not have been further from the usual reality of commuting on the Victoria Line, instead, we headed for Gjipe Canyon which was arguably the highlight of the week.

Walking beyond the beach and eco-campground in the canyon, there was a small stage manned by Ben UFO who played a varied set of Jungle, Dub, Gqom and RnB.

His diverse selection of songs acted as the glue between the dancers who were revelling in a shared moment of joy under the last of the summer sun.

Heading back to Dhërmi after an afternoon on Gjipe was the moment we knew this place was somewhere special.

The evening light was dancing on the water as we sped by boat back to the festival site. The Monastery Of Saint Mary, visible from all parts of the festival, stood tall in the hills flanked by mountains dotted with fig and olive trees.

Even the boatman joined in on the fun as he blared Europop music to please the excited Brits.

The hot air buzzed with excitement as we settled on the wooden terrace at Luciano’s and watched the sun go down over the Ionian sea.

In recent years, Croatia has taken the helm in hosting British-run festivals, but this exciting new patch could soon take over as a summer festival with a difference. That difference became even clearer when the bill for a fresh fish dinner and rosé for two at Luciano's arrived at under £20.

Partying in the open air, with the option to drink a pina colada on a nearby sunbed never got boring.

But if the near-one-week-of-raving legs needed some energy to keep moving, then — somewhat paradoxically — it was the last night that served new zeal.

The festival schedulers took the canny decision to save the biggest artists at the most anticipated stage until the final night.

From outside Splendor Hotel, it would be hard to know that Detroit techno legend Jeff Mills was slamming his trademark drum beats to thousands.

But descending down a concrete ramp revealed an underground car park kitted out with a mighty strobe system and it felt like one of the most exciting club venues to date.

Jeff Gray, one of the organisers of the festival, told the Mirror the team were “blown away with the site” when they first visited.

And what now makes it even more special, he said, is the excitement from the government who are so excited to welcome people who have never visited Albania before.

Sadly all good things must come to an end, but most people said they were already on the waiting list for tickets next year.

ION Festival returns 6 - 13th September 2023 and tickets start at £302 per person which includes accommodation. Find out more at ionalbania.com .

Minnesota Yacht Club Festival 2024: How To Get Tickets & More

by Em Casalena February 12, 2024, 4:22 pm

Who said the Land of 10,000 Lakes doesn’t have killer music festivals? This year, Minnesota’s own Minnesota Yacht Club Festival will be kicking off on Harriet Island for a two-day special event with a ton of top-notch headliners.

Videos by American Songwriter

Gwen Stefani, Alanis Morissette, and Red Hot Chili Peppers will be headlining the fest this year, with additional performances from The Black Crowes, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, The Head And The Heart, The Offspring, Hippo Campus, Morgan Wade, and more.

Festival Details

The fest will start on Friday, July 19 in St. Paul, Minnesota at Harriet Island Regional Park and come to a close on Saturday, July 20. Different artists will be performing on each day of the festival. Each day, the fest will start at 12:00 pm and close at 10:30 pm.

The festival’s showrunners have been promoting the fest on social media, with one post bringing attention to the multiple ticket options available this year.

“Whether you’re seeking luxury or the ultimate party experience, we’ve got a ticket that suits your style! Scroll through and explore all the Premium options we have to offer with GA+, VIP, Riverboat VIP, and Platinum tickets 😎” said the Instagram post , accompanied by a series of graphics for each ticket option.

How to Get Tickets

General sale tickets have just gone live via the festival’s website after a very brief presale event. You can also get your hands on tickets through Ticketmaster and StubHub as well. If you can’t get tickets in time before they sell out, we always recommend StubHub as the best backup ticketing platform to get sold-out passes. Just keep in mind that your tickets may be higher or lower in price compared to face value.

There isn’t much to say about this upcoming fest, considering this is the inaugural event. But judging by the lineup, it seems to be a 1990s rock-focus event with a touch of nostalgia and some up-and-coming artists in the mix as well.

Minnesota Yacht Club is a unique music festival for a few reasons. Namely, can you think of any other music fest that offers paddleboat rides with private bar access? It’s a fancy fest with fancy upgrades, but those opting for general admission aren’t going to miss out, either.

This festival is a hotspot for food and drink vendors across the state, so you can sample the best of the best from Minnesota. Harriet Island Regional Park is also quite stunning, so when you’re between bands, treat yourself to a walk through the cottonwood trees. The vibes are definitely solid.

The Minnesota Yacht Club is likely going to sell out fast , so now is the perfect time to get your hands on decently-priced tickets.

Things to Do

Subscriber only, things to do | minnesota yacht club festival coming to harriet island regional park in st. paul.

man inside translucent sphere pumps his fists as members of an appreciative audience make hand gestures and wave caps and sunglasses

Counting Crows headlined a Taste of Minnesota concert lineup in 2010 that ended in bankruptcy for the long-standing food festival. In 2012, the odd matchup of dark alt-metal rockers Tool and the dreamy roots-rock of the Dave Matthews Band put the nail in the coffin of Live Nation’s short-lived River’s Edge Music Festival .

C3 Presents now plans to sail into the same scenic venue that other concert promoters have feared to tread for more than a decade. The team behind the popular Austin City Limits Music Festival, Lollapalooza and Atlanta’s annual alt-rock Shaky Knees music celebration have announced they’ll take over Harriet Island Regional Park on July 19 and 20 for the inaugural Minnesota Yacht Club Festival.

Music lineup to come

The music lineup won’t be announced until sometime next month, according to C3, which is headquartered in Austin, Texas. Still, other promoters within the event industry with an inkling of the goings-on say to expect big things of the company, in which Live Nation bought a majority stake in 2014.

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter this week said “stellar performances” and local cuisine are on tap.

“These are the people who do Austin City Limits,” said Rand Levy, a veteran promoter currently producing the Glow Holiday Festival at downtown St. Paul’s CHS Field. “They’re not amateurs.”

Levy, who is not directly attached to the Yacht Club Festival, would not divulge what he’s learned of the lineup, except to say “it appears to me they’re putting together a big show. … I think it’s a great, flexible grounds. It’s very pliable and flexible. I’ve done shows there and it’s terrific.”

An attractive venue built like a park

Why have promoters avoided Harriet Island for so long?

The answers have as much to do with the venue as trends within the music fest industry. Among the challenges, the Harriet Island bandshell is too low to the ground to serve as a primary stage, forcing the construction of temporary stages. Large concerts require power, fencing and other infrastructure that isn’t in abundant supply on site.

Apartments and condos constructed along the river trigger noise variance and permitting requirements that can force a stage to be relocated or reoriented. Then there’s the vagaries of drawing 30,000 fans or more to a riverfront that can flood and grassy fields that can turn to mush after heavy rains.

In short, “it’s not built out like the Summerfest grounds in Milwaukee or the State Fairgrounds, where it was purpose-built for the festival experience,” said Joe Spencer, president of the St. Paul Downtown Alliance. “Harriet Island was built as a park.”

“And at the same time, being down right by the water, it’s such a beautiful site, I’m not surprised they’re going to find a way to make it work,” added Spencer, who previously served as a cultural adviser to former St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman. “Having 30,000 music fans parking in downtown and having an experience down by the river is going to be a fantastic addition.”

Levy noted that music festivals have run aground elsewhere, largely because of event costs.

“You’ve got to have deep pockets,” he said. “You’ve got to have the right talent. The talent is not cheap.”

Pent-up demand

Still, with some other festivals like the Basilica Block Party in Minneapolis repeatedly sidelined in recent years, there’s a pent-up demand to come together for communal cheer following the pandemic, and there’s plenty of energy left in downtown St. Paul event venues.

The European Christmas Market at the downtown St. Paul Union Depot was mobbed with visitors this season. This is Levy’s fourth year producing a holiday lights festival just down the street at CHS Field, the home of the St. Paul Saints, and the 31 scheduled shows have been drawing crowds. “We’re jamming them in,” he said. “This is our best year ever.”

Opening the city’s riverfront parklands to tens of thousands of visitors will take careful coordination with City Hall, but officials say they’re fully on board.

“We are excited to bring a festival back to Harriet Island,” said Clare Cloyd, a spokesperson for St. Paul Parks and Recreation, which is working alongside the mayor’s office to make the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival a success. “It’s something we have been working on for quite a while.”

C3 Presents is encouraging music festival fans to sign up for text alerts, emails and social media notifications at MinnesotaYachtClubFestival.com , or to follow along on Facebook , Instagram , X (previously Twitter) and TikTok.

Chili peppers, alanis top '90s-heavy lineup for first minnesota yacht club festival in st. paul.

Gen-X music fans seem to be steering the ship for the inaugural Minnesota Yacht Club festival, which announced its lineup Tuesday with such 1990s-era names at the top as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gwen Stefani, Alanis Morissette, the Black Crowes and the Offspring.

The maiden voyage of the nautical-themed festival — paddleboats and the Mississippi riverfront are part of its branding — is scheduled for July 19-20 on Harriet Island across from downtown St. Paul. Twenty bands will perform on two stages over a Friday and Saturday in the city-owned park.

Along with Tuesday's lineup reveal came word on when fans can first buy tickets to the festival. Presale options for two-day passes begin Friday at 10 a.m. via minnesotayachtclubfest.com , where concertgoers can sign up now for access. Initial prices are $135 for single-day general-admission tickets or $215 for two-day, while VIP options range from $285 to $925.

Extra anticipation has been built up for the Minnesota Yacht Club lineup since it was revealed the event is being put on by C3 Presents , the Live Nation-affiliated company behind such marquee U.S. festivals as Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and Shaky Knees.

Twin Cities music lovers have long felt slighted by not having a big music bash in town like those, especially after homegrown festivals such as Soundset, Rock the Garden and the Basilica Block Party were sidelined. Live Nation tried to launch one in 2012 on Harriet Island, River's Edge, but the festival was canceled after just one lackluster year.

"Major" might be a debatable term when it comes to the artists on the newly announced lineup, but there is certainly ample familiarity with the biggest names.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, who will headline Saturday, are Rock & Roll Hall of Famers who drew 35,000 to their U.S. Bank Stadium show last year. Saturday is also when "Self-Esteem" punk rockers the Offspring, Texas guitar slinger Gary Clark Jr., Hippo Campus, the Hold Steady and Soul Asylum are scheduled to perform.

The Friday lineup's top names, Morissette and Stefani, each put a feminist spin on angsty rock playlists in the 1990s, the former with her megahit album "Jagged Little Pill" and the latter with singles by her old band No Doubt, including "Just a Girl" and "It's My Life."

Not entirely a nostalgic affair, the Minnesota Yacht Club lineup also features some younger touring acts making a buzz in recent years, including Michigander, Nico Vega and Wilderado. C3 bookers also pulled in two newcomer rock acts making waves in the Twin Cities scene, Durry and Gully Boys.

One-day tickets to the festival will be sold after the initial round of two-day passes go on sale. The prices will be split up into different tiers, with extra options including VIP and "GA+" passes offering lounges and restrooms.

In keeping with the "yacht club" theme, there will even be a 21-and-up only pass option called "Riverboat VIP," which will include rides on paddleboats during the event — yet another sign that Twin Cities concertgoers are entering new waters with this ambitious festival.

Chris Riemenschneider has been covering the Twin Cities music scene since 2001, long enough for Prince to shout him out during "Play That Funky Music (White Boy)." The inaugural edition of the festival will take place in Albania next month.

ION Festival will touch down in Albania on the 7th of September bringing with it an eclectic assortment of forward thinking DJ’s from across the breadth of house, techno and beyond.

The line up consists of legends and newcomers alike, offering their take on dance and electronic music in an exotic sun kissed setting on the coast. Set across a number of locations the festival will host a number of stages from beach parties to coves, yacht clubs, bunkers and forts – the festival promises to offer an unrivalled experience for ravers and dancers seeking something new.

One of the team behind the event, Jeff Gray, revealed his upcoming excitement at the prospect of making ION a reality in 2022.

“When we are started to bring our vision for ION Festival to life, we wanted to make sure each music location had its own, unique vibe with a distinct music programme to match.

From the open-air hedonism of our Main Stage and The Deck, to the depths of The Bunker, the intimacy of The Cove, to The Yacht Club’s slick terrace, we feel we have fine-tuned our lineup with exceptional attention to detail. And that’s all before we get to the additional experiences that we know will provide some of the most incredible spots to experience electronic music anywhere in the world.”

Arguably one of the most exciting DJ’s to emerge from the UK of late. An innovative, free thinking artist who continues to defy preconceptions and challenges the notion of ‘genre’ in each and every way. As a producer he often takes a deconstructed approach, unpicking the elements which have defined club culture for so long and reinventing them. His label Timedance is perhaps one of the most interesting in electronic music at the moment.

Born and raised in Asturias in Northern Spain, Jasss has since moved to Berlin and has released music on the likes of Never Sleep, Ostgut Ton, AD93 and Mannuequin amongst others. This might indicate the degree of pedigree her music withstands. Wild noisy techno excursions meets mutant electro and abstract sound designs. Her free flowing DJ sets could end up anywhere and that’s what makes her unique.

feadship project 1012 yacht launched

92m hybrid electric Feadship Drizzle on sea trials

The 91.8-metre Feadship superyacht known as Project 1012 is currently undergoing sea trials, with her AIS now registering under Drizzle . Delivery is scheduled for July 2024.

The superyacht was seen departing from the shipyard's facilities in Amsterdam yesterday (13 June). Built for a repeat Feadship owner who came to the project with "informed requests based on his long experience of yachting", Drizzle 's design is by Dutch studio Sinot and the owner's related design office.

Characterised by chamfered exterior contours and a more traditional flared bow, the yacht has a modern-classic style with naval architecture by Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects . Notably, she is the first Feadship to carry full Hybrid Electric Class notation.

Drizzle 's interior is designed to reflect an "understated family home" with natural materials and finishes throughout. Accommodation is found on the main deck, along with the large pool and open-air lounge shaded by the deckhead overhang.

Meanwhile, the owner's suite, family lounge and wellness area are situated on the upper decks. Up top, the sundeck serves as an observation vantage point with a forward-facing sofa and sun loungers, while the aft deck is used for storing two rescue tenders.

One of the owner's key requirements in building the yacht was to house a more spacious beach club in the stern, which occupies one-quarter of the total length of the lower deck. The large, fixed stern platform combines with two fold-down platforms to create 165 square metres of water-level lounging space. Sweeping staircases on either side of the stern platform lead to the main deck aft.

Between the engine room and the beach club is a side-loading garage with room for two 10-metre tenders, a ski boat and various water toys. Forward is the crew area, comprising the galley, crew mess and crew accommodation.

Drizzle carries full Hybrid Electric Class notation, the power package comprising two main engines and shaft-driven fixed pitch propellers, coupled with electric motors of 560kW each and 1MW of Li-ion batteries. The e-motors work as shaft generators to produce electricity to serve the hotel loads or recharge the battery bank, as well as for low-speed navigation while the generators or batteries generate the required electrical power.

Albert Abma, Feadship project manager, commented on the launch in April: "Working with the experienced owner, designers and owner's team has been a professional pleasure. Gathering the operational experience of the owner's team with the yard’s building experience has resulted in this modern-classic, state-of-art and full custom new Feadship".

The news comes just after the launch of Feadship's first solar-powered yacht Project 713.
