Kiel Life – alles was du in Kiel machen kannst

Hotel Kieler Yacht-Club

Ausblick Zimmer Hotel KYC Hotel Kieler Yacht-Club

Morgenstimmung KYC Hotel Kieler Yacht-Club

Badzimmer KYC Hotel Kieler Yacht-Club

The Clubhouse

The Hotel Kieler Yacht Club is one of the most venerable houses in the city of Kiel. It has always been closely associated with the sport of sailing. Surviving relics of the early days of the Imperial Yacht Club can still be found at the hotel.

The Imperial Yacht Club - originally the “Naval Regatta Association” - was founded in 1887 by officers of the Imperial Navy in the building of the Kiel Naval Academy. Four years later Kaiser Wilhelm II granted his approval for the Naval Regatta Association to be renamed the “Imperial Yacht Club” and declared himself its commodore.

Towards the end of the century the Kiel Yacht Club had to seek new premises when the navy needed space for expansion. Friedrich Krupp invited the KYC to build a clubhouse on his land on Hindenburgufer. By 1900 the building was completed and the KYC moved in.

Following the complete destruction of the clubhouse in World War I, a new building was erected in 1926 on the foundations of the old machine house - the current Hotel Kieler Yacht Club which continues to house the Kiel Yacht Club to this day.

After World War II the house was lavishly rebuilt in the early 1950s. It was first used as a hotel in 1954.

Over the next few years the hotel’s 17 guestrooms were expanded and modernized. At the end of the 1960s, when Kiel was chosen as a venue for the Olympic Games, it was decided to build an extension - the Olympic Wing - with 30 guestrooms and an à la carte restaurant overlooking the Kiel Fjord. In 1972 the Spanish King Juan Carlos, Greece’s former King Constantine and King Carl Gustav of Sweden stayed at the Hotel Kieler Yacht Club when they came to watch the Olympic Games.

After the hotel was taken over by ThyssenKrupp AG in July 2007, a decision was taken at the end of 2008 to demolish the Olympic Wing and lavishly refurbish the old section of the building.

Today the Hotel Kieler Yacht Club has 21 rooms and suites. The former function rooms including “Kaiser’s Hall” and “Commodore’s Hall” have been restored to their former glory. Offering an exceptional combination of style and function, they are among the most historical banqueting halls in the city.

Inside new superyacht Ulyssia with 132-room hotel, pools and theatre

  • World's most wealthy will be able to own a share of the 1,050ft yacht with all the luxuries of modern living

'For a life without boundaries,' promise the makers of the superyacht 'Ulyssia', a planned 1,050ft (320m) vessel bigger than The Titanic that its owners say with 'transform our concept of discovery and home'.

The Ulyssia is still some four years away from its expected date of completion, but new images provide unprecedented insight into the life of luxury on board, including 132 lavish apartments said to 'meet the standards of a five-star hotel', a theatre, a library, various pools and great underwater panoramic windows.

Although it is not yet known exactly how much residency on board will cost, details have begun to emerge around the kind of lifestyle guests can expect to enjoy. Beyond the essential amenities - restaurants, a medical centre, an XXL wine cellar - residents will also be able to bring home comfort on board, customising their rooms to their liking.

Residents hoping to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life are expected to be able to take out a 50 year lease to stay on the ship in rooms ranging from 112 to 1000sq-m. Those with lives still on land will have access to two helicopters on board to bring guests back and forth.

The mega yacht belongs to Swiss company Ulyssia Residence AG and is the brainchild of Espen Øino, a veteran Monaco-based yacht designer from Norway with a track record of drawing up swanky yachts with bespoke touches for the world's richest.

The superyacht is presented as a base of operations for some of the world's most fortunate people, a place to kick back and relax after a busy day of adventuring through foreign wonders.

Alain Gruber, CEO of Ulyssia Residences AG, said: 'The concept behind Ulyssia is to travel the world - but from your own home.

'Every day you can go out and discover new destinations around the world, but in the evening you can come back to your family in your own four walls.'

The homes on board will be offered in configurations of one to six bedrooms, and are set to include open-plan kitchens, terraces and receptions with all the comforts of the modern home.

Residents can also house guests in one of 22 slightly smaller guest apartments - also offering a space for lecturers and experts to stay when visiting, according to BOAT International , a guide for the superyacht enthusiast.

FM Architetture and eight other top designers have been drawn in to fit the interiors to residents' individual tastes.

The company has an impressive portfolio of working on boats, homes, towers and hotels in a range of classical and contemporary stylings.

To suit everybody's needs, the yacht will carry a range of permanent entertainment, including a two-level theatre, a library and several conference rooms.

Restaurants will welcome 'world famous but also up-and-coming chefs' - although residents will also have access to a grocery store with 'local products from the piers' if they fancy a quiet one.

Beyond practical usage, the helicopters, it is promised, can also be used to 'facilitate epic adventures' like heliskiing.

'[Every resident] has something in common. They want to travel, they are curious, they are adventurous,' said Mr Gruber.

'But after that, they divide up into these sub-groups.

'You have your foodies, you have your divers, you have your sailors, you have your art collectors, people that interested in reading and book clubs – all those subcommittees will start to form on board and create a real sense of community.'

For longevity, the yacht will be powered by methanol and other biofuels, according to Bild , ensuring it can keep sailing for decades without becoming too taxing on the environment.

Solar panels will also help make use of natural resources to slash emissions on this ship of the future.

Ownership will be on a shared freehold basis, with residents owning the ship in perpetuity and in proportion to the square footage owned, BOAT International reports.

Things to Do

Music and concerts, music and concerts | what to know if you’re headed to the minnesota yacht club festival, gwen stefani, alanis morissette and red hot chili peppers are headlining.

A stage and bleachers next to a river.

For the first time in a dozen years, St. Paul’s Harriet Island Regional Park will host a major rock and pop music festival, dubbed the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival, on Friday and Saturday.

Headlined by Gwen Stefani, Alanis Morissette and Red Hot Chili Peppers, the festival (which despite its name has nothing to do with yacht rock) is promoted by C3 Presents, an Austin, Texas, company that’s also behind Austin City Limits Music Festival, Voodoo Music + Arts Experience and the modern-day Lollapalooza. C3 was the largest independent promoter in the world until Live Nation bought a controlling stake in the company in 2014.

Organizers expect to attract more than 30,000 concertgoers each day.

While the Irish Fair of Minnesota calls Harriet Island home each August, music festivals have had a rough go on the site. The original Lollapalooza (back when it was a traveling festival) landed on the site in 1991, 1992 and 1994, but flooding forced the fest to move to the late St. Paul Civic Center in 1993.

Live Nation attempted to establish a new annual event, the River’s Edge Music Festival, in 2012. Despite big-name headliners Tool and the Dave Matthews Band, the festival didn’t attract enough paying customers to convince the concert promoting giant to return for a second year.

Here’s what folks headed to the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival need to know:

As of Wednesday afternoon, tickets were still available at a number of price points, starting at $135 for one day general admission (or $255 for two days) all the way up to platinum tickets for $925 ($1,395 for two days), which include a number of perks including free food and drinks, front-of-stage viewing and access to an air-conditioned lounge. See minnesotayachtclubfestival.com for details.

Many of the general admission and general admission plus tickets are sold out, but there are verified resale tickets available, some at lower prices than face value.

Getting there

There are two entrances to the festival. The main entrance is at Harriet Island Boulevard and South Wabasha Street, while the west entrance is on West Water Street between Bidwell Street and Plato Boulevard.

There is no on-site parking at the festival, but its website lists numerous downtown St. Paul parking lots that are a 10- to 16-minute walk from the site. Several Metro Transit buses stop a half-mile from Harriet Island. The rideshare drop off is at 49 E. Fillmore Ave. The festival promises “ample bike parking” located near the two entrances.

What is allowed on site

Feel free to bring: Small clutch purses and fanny packs (6” x 9” or smaller) with no more than one pocket, all other bags must be clear and smaller than 12” x 6” x 12”, empty hydration packs and reusable water bottles, strollers, frisbees, binoculars, blankets, basic cameras (no detachable lenses or other accessories), sunscreen in non-aerosol containers (3.4 ounces or less), personal-sized hand sanitizer and factory sealed Naloxone/Narcan kits.

What isn’t allowed

Pretty much everything you would think, including outside food and beverage, coolers, aerosol containers, umbrellas, chairs, wagons, skateboards, drones, fireworks and illegal substances.

Concertgoers must wear securely fastened wristbands that are available at the box office. Florida developer Sergio Pino found dead amid FBI ‘murder for hire’ investigation

Real estate developer Sergio Pino, one of the country’s largest Hispanic residential builders, died by suicide Tuesday morning after FBI agents arrived at his Cocoplum home amid what the bureau called a “murder for hire” investigation related to threats  made against his estranged wife, Tatiana Pino.

It was a startling end for a prominent businessperson who faced a federal inquiry into whether he had any connection to a group of men charged with stalking and threatening his wife of more than three decades during a contentious divorce. The dissolution of the couple’s marriage had played out in shocking headlines since FBI agents raided Pino’s Coral Gables home and office in late June — the pages of their divorce file show the couple relaying alleged incidents of poisoning, vehicle fires and a drive-by shooting at Sergio Pino’s home in recent years. Threats made against Tatiana Pino and her sister, including arson and a hit-and-run, led to the arrests of four men, including one of Sergio Pino’s household employees, earlier this year.

Early Tuesday, weeks after the first raid, FBI agents descended on Sergio Pino’s Coral Gables neighborhood as part of a “search and arrest” operation related to a murder-for-hire investigation that began in the fall of 2023, according to a statement by Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Veltri. A SWAT team entered Pino’s home after attempting to call out to anyone inside and getting no response, according to the FBI’s statement. Veltri said that Pino, who was 67, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and that FBI agents discovered him “alone in an upstairs bedroom.”

Law enforcement raided another home in Cutler Bay as part of the operation. One person was arrested, according to Veltri, who did not provide the suspect’s name or further details.

In a statement Tuesday afternoon, Pino’s criminal defense attorney criticized the FBI’s actions.

“Sergio Pino took his own life today,” said lawyer Sam Rabin. “The level of law enforcement activity at his residence was unprecedented and unnecessary, especially since we had offered to surrender him, should that have become necessary. Today’s events mark a very tragic ending to an investigation that we were confident we could successfully defend. There were many rumors and allegations, but what was lacking was evidence.”

Pino, the founder of Century Homebuilders Group and a high-profile Miami-Dade County builder and political donor for decades,  had denied any involvement  in the incidents involving his wife.

The striking scene in Cocoplum unfolded Tuesday morning as FBI agents returned to Pino’s home, where the couple once lived together. For much of the morning, Coral Gables police cruisers blocked off Isla Dorada Boulevard, where the house is located. A series of loud bangs could be heard from about a block away, beginning at 9:30 a.m., about every 15 minutes. Two helicopters hovered overhead at the waterfront estate, near the Cocoplum Yacht Club.

Around 10 a.m., Coral Gables Fire Rescue arrived with lights on. Thirty minutes later, an ambulance left with lights on but no siren. Around 11:30 a.m., a van from the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s office arrived in the area.

The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s office later confirmed that Pino died inside his home on Isla Dorada Boulevard around 10:20 a.m.

The residence was not visible from the area blocked off by law enforcement on Tuesday morning.

A person in the neighborhood told the Miami Herald that law enforcement surrounding the house appeared calm, with weapons pointed at the ground. The person said that at one point they heard police say over the megaphone that they would breach the front door.

Tatiana Pino’s lawyer, Raymond Rafool, declined to comment Tuesday afternoon. “Under the circumstances, we are not commenting at this time,” he said.

Four Miami-Dade men, including an employee of Sergio Pino’s, were arrested earlier this year in connection with threats and attacks against Tatiana Pino and her sister. Bayron Bennett, who worked putting together food and beverage service on Sergio Pino’s yacht, is accused of recruiting Michael Dulfo, Edner Etienne and Jerren Howard to carry out a hit-and-run at Tatiana Pino’s residence and multiple arsons at her sister’s residence. The four men have pleaded not guilty.

A rented Home Depot trailer  rammed into Tatiana Pino’s car  as she pulled into her driveway after a day of divorce proceedings in August 2023. And three vehicles were set ablaze in two separate arsons at Tatiana Pino’s sister’s residence.

In a motion filed on July 5, Tatiana Pino’s divorce attorney said there had been another “attempt on Ms. Pino’s life just weeks ago at her home.” Pinecrest police have refused to release the report from that incident because it is part of the ongoing federal investigation.

In court testimony, Tatiana Pino said she blamed health problems  on what she believed was a poisoning attempt  by her husband. Sergio Pino had denied that allegation.

And he testified that he had also received threats throughout the divorce proceedings.

A month after Tatiana Pino filed for divorce, Sergio Pino said someone  shot at his Coral Gables home  and that he had received threatening phone calls around that time.

In September 2023, shortly after the hit-and-run at Tatiana Pino’s residence, Sergio Pino said someone set his car on fire. About a year before that, he testified, another car of his was vandalized.

Stavanger (Norway)

STAVANGER, FROM THE OUTSKIRTS TO THE OLD TOWN WITH CIDER TASTING

Norway - Stavanger

Famous for its oil industry, Stavanger offers much more to its visitors. This approximately four-hour excursion lets you discover the beauty of its surroundings and a city that stretches out in an open landscape, unprotected by Norway's imposing mountains. The journey begins with a scenic 90-minute coastal route, featuring highlights such as the medieval church Sola Ruinkyrkje—an important navigational point for the Jæren coast until the 19th century—the Solastranden beach, popular among surfers and kiters, and the quaint town of Ølberg.

Next, you'll visit the suburb of Hafrsfjord, renowned for its three 10-meter-high bronze swords embedded in the rock. Created by sculptor Fritz Røed, these swords commemorate the battle of 872 and Viking King Harald's victory, which unified Norway. The tallest sword represents the victorious king, while the other two signify his defeated challengers.

Upon returning to Stavanger, you'll pass the petroleum museum and embark on a 30-minute walk to Gamle, the historic center filled with perfectly preserved wooden buildings, some dating back to the 18th century. This charming stroll through the old town will conclude at a local café, where you'll enjoy a 75-minute break to savor cider, affectionately called "Norwegian champagne." Known for its ancient production methods, Norwegian cider is highly esteemed worldwide, and we are confident you'll appreciate it after a taste.
