How much does it cost to charter a yacht in the Mediterranean?

The cost of a luxury superyacht charter in the Mediterranean will depend on your choice of vessel, your choice of cruising grounds and itinerary, as well as your desired onboard experience. Expect to pay over US$200,000 for a luxury Mediterranean yacht charter per week and in excess of $1 million or more for the world’s most luxurious superyachts. Moran Yacht & Ship specializes in chartering the finest yachts built by pedigree shipbuilders, including Lurssen, Feadship, Amels, Azimut, and Rossinavi. What is the Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA)?

The Advanced Provisioning Allowance – or APA – covers non-fixed costs during a Mediterranean boat charter and is an additional fee on top of the base charter rate. Non-fixed costs covered in the APA include fuel, mooring fees, and provisioning, including food and drink. Your luxury yacht charter broker will calculate what the APA costs are likely to be. The amount is paid in advance, and the Captain will draw on the funds in the APA to cover costs during your luxury yacht charter. At the end of the yacht charter, you will be provided with a full summary of all costs, and any remaining funds in the APA will be immediately returned to you. As an average, expect the APA to total around 10% of your base charter rate.

What currency should I take with me to the Mediterranean?

Most of the Mediterranean’s superyacht hotspots are part of the European Union and have therefore adopted the Euro as their official currency. This makes traveling to multiple countries in the Mediterranean effortless with regards to currency. The following countries use the Euro and are part of the EU:

• France, including Corsica
• Spain, including the Balearics
• Italy, including Sardinia
• Greece, including the Greek Islands

The following Mediterranean yacht charter destinations are not part of the EU:

• Montenegro (is scheduled to join the EU in 2025); however, has adopted the Euro as its currency
• Turkey, the Turkish Lira. However, US dollars are widely accepted, with many boutiques, restaurants, and service providers in tourist hotspots also accepting Euros.

Hoewel ik al ruim tien jaar in Gent woon, ligt mijn hart nog altijd een beetje in Oostende, waar ik geboren en getogen ben. Collega’s weten me dan ook te vinden als ze een weekendje naar de koningin der badsteden trekken. ‘Waar moet ik zijn om goeie vis te eten?’, is een veelgehoorde vraag. Er is uiteraard de Visserskaai, met haar tientallen visrestaurants. Daar vindt de doorsnee toerist zeker zijn gading. En voor wie het bij een snelle hap wil houden, zijn er de bekende viskraampjes aan de overkant van de straat.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

RYA Yachtmaster Offshore/Coastal (Power)

• We are the ONLY school in Fort Lauderdale to independently offer accredited Theory and Practical training for RYA Yachtmaster Offshore and Coastal.  This course includes one week of theory training in chart-work, navigation rules, meteorology, tidal height calculations, aids to navigation, voyage planning and more.  Week two includes practical training on our 40' (12m) training vessel, followed by the RYA Practical Examination. RYA Advanced Powerboat Exam

Full details of the exam syllabus and requirements are shown in the RYA's Powerboat Logbook (code G20) available from the webshop.

Boats used for exams

You may use your own boat or a boat that you have chartered or borrowed. You will be responsible for ensuring the boat is seaworthy and suitable for the area in which the exam takes place and equipped as shown below.

The vessel must be capable of a minimum of 12 knots, equipped with the following:

• lights conforming with IRPCS
• VHF radio (may be portable)
• GPS (may be hand held) or plotter
• depth sounder
• anchor, chain and warp
• basic tool kit and spares
• heaving line
• paddles or additional means of propulsion
• flares: 2 hand held, 2 orange smoke
• bilge pump or buckets/bailer
• first aid kit

Additionally if not on the boat, you will need to bring to the exam:

• laminated or waterproof charts
• GPS set (may be hand held)
• tide tables
• pilotage information for the local area, eg pilot books, port information etc
• plotting instruments.
• Photographic ID card or document, such as a passport or driving licence

Advanced Powerboat exam pre-requisites

Before you book your exam please check that you:

• can provide a boat
• have completed the required mileage and experience as skipper
• hold a VHF Radio Operators License or Short Range Certificate
• hold a valid first aid certificate
• have read the syllabus in RYA publication G20
• have read and comply with the pre-requisites above.

Candidates should be familiar with all the equipment on board the vessel, as they may be asked to use this during the examination.

If you need your Certificate of Competence in order to work on board a commercial craft subject the MCA's codes of practice, you will need to get it commercially endorsed .

Also known as the Powerboat Day Cruising Course the course is aimed at those who have boated a season or more, probably already have Level 2 and want to learn more about coastal cruising. It focuses on navigation and passage planning.

RYA Powerboat Advanced

Aimed at experienced leisure boaters and those seeking to work commercially. The Advanced Course can be followed by the Advanced Examination. This course addresses areas such as night navigation, rough water handling and search patterns – a great course!

RYA Yachtmaster™ Power – Exam Prep Course

We offer discounted boat handling /skill improvement days for students who feel their boat handling skills need to be brought up to the standard expected of rya yachtmaster candidates.  we also offer 2-day rya cs / ym theory refresher courses..

Course content:

The preparation part of the week is intended to act as a refresher on pilotage, boat handling, safety, skippering and passage planning. In particular, skills like blind navigation, electronic navigation (radar and GPS), night pilotage and MOB procedure are considered. During the exam, candidates will be set tasks to demonstrate their ability as a Yachtmaster and can be asked questions on any part of the syllabus for all practical and shorebased courses up to Yachtmaster level.

There isn’t a formal ‘Yachtmaster’ training course leading up to the ‘Yachtmaster’ exam. Those who have not previously taken RYA courses often find it useful to book themselves in for some informal yachtmaster training at an RYA centre prior to their exam. ‘Yachtmaster’ prep/exam candidates should be honest with themselves when assessing their boat handling ability and if your boat handling (twin shaft) is weak then time spent strengthening this aspect, prior to your prep week will be invaluable.  Mendez Marine can help you prep your boat handling skills and theory in order to get you to where you need to be.

The Yachtmaster™ “Prep” Course is designed to find out the weak points and work them up to exam standard. These “Prep” courses are scheduled or can be run on demand and will include time for the exam.

Please note …  The Yachtmaster Exam is a pass or fail exam – we will do our utmost to polish your existing skills in preparation for the exam but there is little or no time to teach new skills such as boat handling.

How can I take this course?

• On our school boat on our timetables.
• On our school boat, in your group, you choose the dates.
• On your own boat, we come to you.

The exam preparation course is held on our school boat, Fenland Dancer. She is a Princess 368 with a fly bridge and 2 x 300Hp Cummins engines on shafts. She has the latest Raymarine electronic equipment and her salon was refurbished summer 2019.

Any classroom work takes place in the Mendez Marine office or onboard Fenland Dancer.

Charter of boat only for an exam is £1200

The exam will include an assessment of your skippering skills, boat handling, general seamanship, navigation, safety awareness and knowledge of the IRPCS, meteorology and signals.

The exam fee is additional and is currently £241.00 Offshore, £208 Coastal. Commercial Endorsement costs £45.00

If taking the Preparation course and exam on your own boat: The boat used must be between 7m (23ft) and 24m (78ft) and be in sound, seaworthy condition, equipped to the standard set out in the RYA book Cruising Yacht Safety (code C8). The boat must be equipped with a full up to date set of charts and navigational publications and be efficiently crewed (minimum 2), as the examiner will not take part in the management of the boat during the exam.

• Have completed the required mileage and experience as skipper
• Hold a VHF Radio Operators License or Short Range Certificate
• Hold a valid first aid certificate
• Have read the syllabus in RYA publications; G158 (power)
• Have read and comply with the pre-requisites above.

If you need a Yachtmaster™ Offshore Certificate of Competence in order to work on board a commercial craft subject to the MCA’s codes of practice, you will need to get it commercially endorsed. You can then work as a Master of commercial vessels of up to 200gt in category 1 to 6 waters – up to 150 miles from a safe haven.

The RYA Yachtmaster™ Offshore Certificate of Competence can be used commercially in its own right. It is also a pre-requisite for the MCA’s Officer of the Watch qualification, which enables you to work worldwide on vessels of up to 3000gt. click here for information.

RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Power

Rya/mca yachtmaster power overview:.

The Yachtmaster Power (Coastal and Offshore) Certificates of Competence Courses are run together. Whilst the syllabus for each is very similar, the Offshore candidate requires more logged sea time and will be pushed harder in the exam. If you’re unsure as to exactly which level you should aim for, we are happy for you to book the preparation course and decide part way through, once you have seen the kind of exercises involved. The external examiner will not know which exam you are each taking until he/she meets you.

RYA/MCA YACHTMASTER POWER AIMS:

Simple really! To work with you to ensure you pass your exam. The preparation time not only helps get you familiar with the boat, the operating area and the crew, but it also looks at exam techniques and polishes rusty skills.

RYA/MCA YACHTMASTER POWER COURSE DURATION:

Four day preparation course followed by an exam (making a five day package). The exam can last up to 36 hours. There will be several late finishes as night pilotage is part of the training and the exam.

RYA/MCA YACHTMASTER POWER PRE REQUISITES:

Yachtmaster coastal.

• MINIMUM AGE 18
• 30 days motor cruising (at least 50% on board vessels less than 80 grt and between 7 LWL and 24m LOA)
• 800 miles logged (at least 50% on board vessels less than 80 grt and between 7 LWL and 24m LOA)
• 12 night hours (at least 50% on board vessels less than 80 grt and between 7 LWL and 24m LOA)
• 2 days as skipper (at least 50% on board vessels less than 80 grt and between 7 LWL and 24m LOA)
• RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased
• RYA First Aid OR STCW Elementary First Aid
• RYA Short Range Certificate  or higher level GMDSS
• RYA Sea Survival Course  OR STCW Personal Survival Techniques (recommended for everyone, compulsory if you are seeking a MCA / RYA Commercial Endorsement)

* For holders of the RYA Coastal Skipper Course Completion Certificate,  Sea Time is reduced to 20 days, 400 miles, 12 night hours and 2 days as skipper.

YACHTMASTER OFFSHORE

• 50 days motor cruising on vessels upto 500 gt (at least 50% on board vessels less than 24m LOA)
• 5 days as  skipper on power vessels less than 24m LOA
• 2,500 miles logged on power vessels upto 500 gt  (at least 50% on board vessels between less than 24m LOA)
• 5 passages of 60 miles or more (of which at least 3 were logged in tidal waters)
• At least 3 of those passages on power vessels under 24m
• At least 2 of those passages as skipper
• At least 2 of those passages being overnight

Qualifying passages and seatime should have been logged in the ten years preceding the exam, seatime that is more than ten years old does not qualify.

RYA/MCA YACHTMASTER POWER COURSE CONTENT:

The preparation part of the week is intended to act as a refresher on pilotage, boat handling, safety, skippering and passage planning. In particular, skills like blind navigation, electronic navigation (radar and GPS), night pilotage and MOB procedure are practiced. This is not the time to be learning these skills from scratch. During the exam, candidates will be set various skipper tasks to demonstrate their ability as a Yachtmaster. They can be asked questions on any part of the syllabus from all practical and shorebased courses up to Yachtmaster level.

RYA/MCA YACHTMASTER POWER COURSE RATIO & VESSEL:

The RYA set a maximum Motor Cruising ratio of 5 students to 1 instructor (5:1). Some UK centres reduce this to 4:1, but we go further, 3:1. This means you spend at least a third of the time on the wheel, with considerable opportunity to navigate and skipper. You will not sit through long periods of your course watching other candidates, “have a go.”

How do we do this? We run a sensible sized (8.5m) motor boat which can be operated safely by just 2 crew. If you want to train on a larger, twin engine motor yacht then we are probably the wrong school for you! Be aware, you are unlikely to be guaranteed such a good Student : Instructor ratio elsewhere! Our Pastor Dr. Jack Trieber

Dr. Jack Trieber, pastor of the North Valley Baptist Church, can best be described as an enthusiastic, Bible-believing preacher with a message for this needy hour.

God has used Dr. Trieber to accomplish much for His glory in Santa Clara, California, since he became pastor in 1976. Under his leadership, thousands attend the church weekly. The church is also home to an elementary, middle, and high school that provides Bible-based education for the children of our church.

The church reaches out to Santa Clara County through a thriving bus ministry which has brought more than 1.5 million people to church over the past 48+ years. More than one hundred Sunday school classes are available for people of all ages to learn and grow in God’s Word. The church’s worldwide missions program currently supports about two hundred home and foreign missionaries each month. In addition, there are ministries to numerous non-English-speaking groups, as well as ministries to the deaf, mentally handicapped, and ten retirement homes.

In 1996, Dr. Trieber’s vision for a Bible college was realized with the founding of Golden State Baptist College . GSBC is a school designed to train preachers, evangelists, missionaries, and Christian workers for the 21st century.

In 2006, Pastor Trieber began his 15-minute daily radio broadcast, “ Revival Time .” It is aired on over 70 stations worldwide! In addition to Pastor Trieber’s radio program, he also hosts a weekly live radio broadcast on our 24-hour-a-day Christian radio station, KNVBC – Revival Radio !

Dr. Trieber was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He and his wife, Cindie, have three children ­Tiffany Thompson, Timothy, and Tabitha Fanara. He and Mrs. Trieber are the proud grandparents of Ashlyn, Titus, T.J., Trey, and Annalise Thompson; Riley, Hudson, Rhegan, and Addison Fanara; Landon, Lawson, Logan, Layken, and London Trieber.

Welcome to The Boat School in Denia. Situated in the prestigious Marina el Portet, The Boat School is the only maritime training centre on the Costa Blanca accredited both to run internationally recognized RYA power and theory courses and to conduct training under the Spanish recreational boating scheme.
