On Island – Time To Go Racing!

Fantastic fleet assembled for the 2024 st barths bucket.

Most of the fleet has arrived, and some of the entrants are working off the rust with early week practices. Sunshine and wind are what we’ve all come to expect in St Barths, and early forecasts suggest there will plenty of both when the racing starts on Friday.

One never knows with weather forecasts nowadays, but 13-18kt Easterly tradewinds is what the experts are telling us. Rosehearty, Hanuman, Nostromo, Inukshuk, Hetairos, Nakupenda, and L’Hippocampe are already at the dock with the finishing touches being applied to the race village at the Capitainerie. With racing less than 2 days off, spirits and expectations are high!

The seven classes include 11 Corinthian Spirit entries in two non-spinnaker classes, a 90-foot class, and the debut of an ‘Open Class’ that includes a combination of cruising yachts and one racing superyacht.

There are four impressive entries making their superyacht racing debut – the 59-meter Maximus (Vitters/Frers), 47-meter Nilaya (Royal Huisman/Reichel-Pugh) 31-meter Zemi (Baltic/ Malcolm Mckeon) and the 33 meter Gelliceaux (Southern Wind/Farr). The first two will do battle in Les Gazelles Class A which features some of the fastest yachts in fleet. We count no less than 8 former Bucket class winners among the 30 entries this year.

The class breaks have been posted for weeks and remain unchanged from the earliest preliminary version . Unparalleled ORCsy class racing with the popular pursuit racing format will provide yacht owners with exciting competition against yachts with somewhat similar sailing characteristics. The Corinthian Spirit Class racing will return to its roots and once again be a non-spinnaker competition.

The official 2024 Bucket social schedule will again be unrivaled, providing yacht owners and their guests with a unique, fun filled experience shoreside and on the water as well.

We look forward to seeing these magnificent sailing yachts and their crews on the racecourse Friday for race number 1, around the island!

The 2024 donation will be made to a most worthwhile one: The Youth Sailing Program at the St Barths Yacht Club (SBYC). SBYC is an active sailing school with the youth of St Barths a major focus. Every year, hundreds of children learn to respect each other and their environment. They also learn responsibility and cooperation in the pursuit of these goals.

SBYC is not a conventional yacht club. Resources and budgets are far more limited than what one would expect to find in a typical yacht club. The safety and maintenance of boats in the children’s fleet is an important priority for the SBYC.

In addition to a monetary donation to support their operations, 2024 will again include a robotic mark. The Bucket will purchase and donate a second robotic mark, which will be used by the club and hopefully at all regattas in St Barths. Robotic marks are increasingly prevalent in sailboat racing and represent a strong commitment to the environment. They reduce the need for mark boats, decreasing engine pollution and environmental damage to the sea floor by anchors.

The SBYC and their members play an active role as on-water and shoreside volunteers at the Bucket each year.

Space Gallery St Barth is proud to partner with the Bucket Regatta for the seventh year running to offer the limited edition 2024 poster. The commemorative Bucket Poster will be available exclusively at Space Gallery and was designed for the third consecutive year by Hermès’ in-house designers. The poster has become a collector’s item for visitors to the island and aficionados of the annual regatta. The poster is a limited, numbered edition of only 250 offered for sale this year. It is priced at 100 euros and will officially go on sale on Monday, 11 March, directly at the Space Contemporary Art Gallery, which is located on Carré D’Or between Hermès and Cartier.

A 100-foot motor yacht can cost an average of $9,000 for a full day's charter, while a 47-foot sailing catamaran can cost about $1,500 from 9 am to 5 pm. A superyacht, with a length of 268-feet, can cost around $890,000 for a full week's charter.

When is the yachting season in St Barths?

St. Barths offers beautiful weather almost all year-round, except for hurricane season that begins in July and ends in early November. Therefore, the months of December to March is the ideal yachting season in St. Barths, when the skies are blue and the sun is shining all day, offering the most beautiful weather to sail around the waters and laying around the gorgeous white-sand beaches.

St Barths yacht charter for a day

There are 22 beaches in St. Barths, with 15 of them accessible for swimming. All beaches are open to the public, which means you've got 22 reasons to hop on a yacht charter for a day exploring these wonders. However, because you only have about 7 to 8 hours of daytime, a full day yacht charter can only get you to a few locations on the island. One of these is the Colombier beach, which is only accessible by boat or a 30-minute hike. Because of its inaccessibility, it is often peaceful and quiet, making it the perfect spot for some private sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, and a picnic on the beach. After lunch, head over to the beach of Saline, or to Shell Beach, or to Anse du Gouverneur. A day of swimming, cruising, and snorkeling is best finished with a sunset cruise as you make your way back to Gustavia Harbor.

St Barths yacht charter overnight

There are plenty of 5-star resorts on the island, but to truly experience a Caribbean yacht charter, an overnight adventure spent at one of its bays is a definite must. You can start your overnight yacht charter with a visit to the famous St. Barths beaches, then followed by a cruise to the small, protected, private island 45 minutes away, which is Fourche. You can anchor on the bay for the night, then come morning, head to Scrub Island in Anguilla, which is a deserted white-sand island. Snorkel, swim, and cruise around the islands, before making your bay to St. Barths.

When you're in St. Barths, you have the beaches and the nearby islands as your getaway, providing you with one unique setting to another, each and every day. Here is a sample itinerary of a one-week liveaboard on board a luxury yacht charter:

Day 1: Gustavia Harbor

Cruise the harbor and drop anchor at the shipwreck of the motor yacht "Nonstop," which sank in a storm and is now home to soft corals and fishes. Cruise along the coast and enjoy drinks on the deck, before making your way to several beaches around the island. Head to Colombier, where you will safely moor the yacht for the night.

Day 2: Colombier

Enjoy the Colombier beach for a quiet day of relaxing, swimming, and snorkeling. Then head your way to the Ile de la Fourche, where you will anchor for the night.

Day 3: Ile de la Fourche

The cactus-covered hills of this secluded island are a unique ambiance from the chic boutiques and lavish lifestyle in Gustavia. Climb one of the island's five peaks, where you are rewarded with panoramic views of the Leeward Islands. If you're lucky and happen to be there during Spring, you can also spot humpback whales on the water. Have lunch on the boat, then get back to the beach, where you can snorkel or even spot sea turtles.

Day 4: Prickly Pear Cays and Seal Island Reefs

These spots are ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving, and if you don't fancy getting underwater, you can explore the beaches or simply lounge on the deck for drinks and snacks.

Day 5: Anguilla

Visit the island of Anguilla with its charming villages and serene harbor. Drop anchor at Road Town, where you can see master craftsmen making boats the traditional way. You can also visit Flat Cap Point, where you can snorkel under the cliffs of this marine sanctuary.

Day 6: Tintamarre

This island is just off St. Maarten's tip, and it's a secluded, uninhabited island. This means you can have the beach all to yourself, where you can snorkel to your heart's content and spend a lazy afternoon reading a book on a hammock.

Day 7: Back to St. Barths

We recommend spending a few hours on Tintamarre and visiting Marigot Bay, which is reminiscent of old south of France town, with its cafes and bistros. Buy some freshly baked bread and pastries, wine, cheese, or French perfume. Hop back on board and sail away back to St. Barths.

Pietå Day: November 6, 2023

Commemoration of the cultural bonds between St. Barths and Sweden, and linkage between sister cities of Gustavia and Pitea, Sweden. Activities include an arts and crafts show on the quai in front of the Wall House in Gustavia, a 5K run, a 10k walk (the Gustavialoppet), and the Children’s Race.

Caribbean Rum Awards: October 31st – November 4th 2023

Each year, a team of judges from the Caribbean and around the world descends upon St. Barths to judge a coveted selection of the Caribbean’s best rums, including “Uber-Premium” categories of rum and rhum agricole that gather the most expensive rums on the market for an unparalleled competition. Hosted in Gustavia, the heart of St. Barths, the Caribbean Rum awards hosts nightly events ranging from tastings to workshops to exclusive gala events.

St. barts music festival 2024: january 15–21, 2024.

Since 1985, musicians from all over come to St. Barts in January to perform live music under the roasting Caribbean sun. Spend a dozen nights with the finest live music and dance performances from some of the world’s most prominent classical, opera, ballet, and jazz stars. These performers have the level of artistry that one would normally have to attend Carnegie Hall in New York or the Opera Garnier in Paris to experience.

The musicians are soloists and principals from symphony orchestras and Philharmonia from all over: Montreal, Boston, New York, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, London, Paris, the Juilliard and Curtis schools of music, and many others.

St. Barts Calendar of Events March 2024

Carnival of st. barths: feb 12 and feb 13 2024.

Costume parade through the streets of Gustavia from 3pm to 7pm, and parties in restaurants from lunchtime till midnight. This is preceded earlier in the week by the short but charming “Children’s Parade”. Ash Wednesday marks the end of Carnival, and the ceremonial burning of a straw statue of Vaval – King of Carnaval. This happens at sunset on Shell Beach, and is followed by live music and drinks at restaurant Do Brasil.

St. Barths Bucket Regatta (St. Barts Race Week): 21-24 March 2024

The St. Barths Bucket Regatta (also known as St. Barts Race Week) is a three-day invitational regatta with 48 of the most impressive mega-yachts in the world. All yachts are at least 100ft long, including many classic wooden racing boats. You can view many of the participating boats in Gustavia harbor after 5 pm most days. Join the race and celebrate after each day with your crew with many sponsored events.

The results from each days racing are posted in the events tent on the Quai in Gustavia, where you can also enjoy live music each night.

The first bucket regatta was put together by Nelson Doubleday in Nantucket, Massachusetts in August 1986. Seven superyacht owners raced on the Nantucket Sound, and due to the spontaneous nature of this race, a nearby bucket was awarded as a prize to its winner, earning the event its name.

The St. Barths Bucket Regatta, on the other hand, was first held in 1995 and has been held annually ever since. Over the years, the superyacht regatta has grown in popularity and now attracts some of the most competitive luxury yacht sailors from around the globe.

There are many reasons why sailors from around the world set course to St Barths for the annual Bucket Regatta. Bucket regatta 2022 took place after a 3-year hiatus on March 17-20, 2022, and the next edition is scheduled to take place on March 15-19, 2022.

Where to see the boats if you are not participating

St Barths Bucket is an invitational regatta, which limits the number of people that can experience it right up close. However, even if you are not participating, you can get a close look at the superyachts in front of the Captainerie building in Gustavia harbor.

To see the races, people often gather near higher vantage points closer to the coastline and the harbor to get their fill of the action. Fort Carl is a great spot to catch the action, and so are the roads running parallel to the beaches in Colombier, Toiny, Flamands, and Pointe Milou.

It is also possible to charter boats to follow the races on the water, which can be a thrilling experience.

And finally, both my villas in Pointe Milou, Maison Domingue and BelAmour , as both have sweeping views of the Caribbean sea. One of the best vantage points to see the regattas is the big rock on Pointe Milou right behind Maison Domingue.

Onshore parties and other festivities

In addition to four days of exciting yacht racing action, the St. Barths Bucket Regatta also features onshore parties, live music, and other festivities. The regatta is a major draw for both sailors and spectators alike, with something for everyone to enjoy. Every year, spectators flock to St Barths to watch the superyachts competing. The final day of the event sees a closing party and spectacular fireworks over the Gustavia harbor. If you’re looking for an amazing sailing event to watch or participate in, the St. Barths Bucket is not to be missed.

Finding accommodation during St Barths Bucket

Accommodation for this event can be difficult to find, as the demand is high and many hotels and resorts are fully booked well in advance. However, some tips and tricks can help you find accommodation for the St. Barth’s Bucket Regatta, even at the last minute.

Check out nearby islands for your stay

One option is to look for accommodation on nearby islands. Many people who are attending the regatta will be coming from nearby islands such as Antigua, St. Lucia, and Grenada. You may be able to find accommodation on one of these islands and then take a short boat or ferry ride to St. Barths from St Martin for the event.

Villa rentals

Another option is to look for vacation rentals/ villa rentals. Villa rentals afford you a lot more privacy and make it easier to find a property that suits your unique needs. These especially make a lot of sense for larger groups. There are many websites that list vacation rentals, both private and shared, in the Caribbean. Villa owners also list their properties online for you to book direct as well. You may be able to find a rental in St Barths that has availability during the dates of the regatta.

Contact hotels directly

Finally, you can also try contacting hotels and resorts directly. Many of these establishments hold rooms back for last-minute bookings, so it’s always worth enquiring about availability. You may be able to get a good deal if you are flexible with your travel dates.

But it is the stunning crystalline waters that surround the island that draws so many yachting enthusiasts here each year. If you’d like to charter a catamaran, sailing boat or motor yacht in St Barts, we’ve picked out three of the best online resources for doing so.

Ritzy have cultivated a vast network since their entry into the yacht charter market almost ten years ago. They list almost 100 yachts across St Barts and neighbouring St Martin at a range of price points, and catering to all preferences, whether you’re seeking a catamaran charter, a motor or sailboat charter, or a bareboat or crewed yacht. Booking on the platform is straightforward, with users required to punch on a variety of details about their trip, including guest numbers, travel dates, preferred itinerary, and any special requests too. They’re then delivered a short-list of yachts based on their customised criteria. When we searched for St Barts charters, the most affordable choice we found was a 16-metre sailing yacht accommodating up to 6 guests and available from $9,800 per week.

Boatbookings have a total of 44 yacht or bareboat charters in St Barts, including 26 crewed motorboats, 10 crewed sailing yachts, and 6 crewed catamaran. The bareboat options, however, are somewhat limited, with just two bareboat catamarans on offer when we searched. As for price, the cheapest private yacht charter we could find was for a 19.5-metre catamaran available for $3,000 per week. Other useful website features include a section dedicated to feedback from previous charter guests for each vessel, while the search function also lets you specify yachts with particular on-board amenities such as fishing and scuba equipment.

Once you confirm your reservation, your broker will process your payment.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

As the countdown to 2024 began, the glamorous harbor of Gustavia once again became the epicenter of high-end St Barts New Year’s Eve celebrations. The Caribbean island, known for its French flair and scenic beauty, hosted a fleet of over 100 luxurious superyachts in port and out in the bay. As usual, it turned out to be an unforgettable night of festivities, with high-profile guests and celebrities making their appearances in this exclusive destination.

Playing host to an outstanding fleet of visiting luxury charter yachts , Gustavia Harbor is the main hub of festivities with its 60 coveted berths and ample anchorage in the bay. Renowned as being one of the most exciting times of the year to embark on a St Barts yacht charter , charter guests can indulge in iconic parties with world-class DJs, mingle with celebrities, and spectate the popular New Year's Eve Regatta.  

Setting the sky alight with an impressive display of fireworks, the party scene around Gustavia is nothing short of spectacular. Whether you're with friends and family or entertaining clients on a corporate charter , the captivating entertainment spreads from deck to shore with many lively bars and restaurants plus a myriad of motor yacht mixers.

Showcasing the high-end appeal of the annual celebrations for visiting Caribbean yacht charters , the 2023 event witnessed the arrival of some truly sensational motor yachts including the likes of the captivating 115m (377ft) charter yacht AHPO . Namely, the largest private yacht charter to be seen in the vicinity of the New Year's celebrations, this iconic Lurssen charter yacht  is a sight to behold with her foredeck helipad, extensive beach club, and indulgent owner's duplex.

Lurssen extended its reach around the harbor with striking 97m (318ft) motor yacht CARINTHIA VII , 95m (312ft) MADSUMMER  and 91m (299ft) charter yacht Lady Lara  also in attendance.

Causing a stir around Fort Karl and Gustavia, multi-award-winning 88m (289ft)  charter yacht PROJECT X from the yard of Golden Yachts  made an appearance for the festivities and showcased her own refit from 2022, as well as 73m (238ft)  motor yacht Quantum of Solace  from Turquoise Yachts . 

A masterpiece in her own right, 75m (247ft)  charter yacht KENSHO continues to impress onlookers wherever she goes, and the New Year celebrations in St Barts were no exception. Recently picking up another award for Best Interior Design in the Motor Yachts 500GT and Above category at the 2023 Boat International Design & Innovation Awards, KENSHO's striking blue hull remains an extraordinary asset to the Admiral Yachts fleet of charter yachts and she certainly made a lasting impression during her latest visit to the waters surrounding the Leeward Islands .
