New Ocean Alexander motor yacht sold and named Drinkability

A brand-new 30.53 metre Ocean Alexander motor yacht, offered for sale by Marinemax, has been sold with Chris June and Mark Osterhaven at Worth Avenue Yachts introducing the buyer.

Now named Drinkability , she was built in GRP by the Taiwanese yard with exterior styling and interior design by Evan K Marshall and delivered earlier in 2017 as hull number seven in the yard’s OA100 series. Accommodation is for eight guests in four cabins consisting of a main-deck master suite, lower deck VIP suite, and port and starboard twins convertible to doubles. All cabins have entertainment centres, LED television screens and en-suite bathroom facilities.

The saloon has enlarged windows providing ample natural light, satin-finished wood panelling, custom-made furniture, a bar and an entertainment centre including a 60-inch television screen and a blu-ray audio/visual system.

Exterior spaces are generous and include a sheltered aft deck with al fresco entertaining and dining on built-in upholstered bench seating, a table, wet bar, fridge and a barbecue grill. Up on the large flybridge, guests can choose between a soak in the four-person Jacuzzi, drinks at the bar, seating on three Stidd helm chairs, or entertainment via the 32-inch flip-down television screen, which is built into the hardtop.

Twin 1,920hp MTU diesel engines give her a cruising speed of 16 knots and she is fitted with zero-speed stabilisers.

Drinkability was asking $11,800,000.

Four days after a fire destroyed two yachts in Portsmouth, here's what we've learned

PORTSMOUTH — The fiberglass and materials used on boats to keep out water pose a unique challenge for firefighters.

And superyachts, with their huge sizes, make the task of quenching flames even harder, Portsmouth Fire Department Assistant Chief Howie Tighe explained in an email to The Daily News on Sunday, two days after a major fire at Hinckley Yacht Services. 

At the peak of the incident on Dec. 10, a whopping 70 firefighters from Portsmouth, Bristol, Middletown, Newport, Jamestown, Warren, Tiverton and North Kingstown were on scene to fight the fire and prevent its spread.

A superyacht — three stories high and more than 100 feet long — was the initial boat on fire, Tighe said. A large sailing yacht next to it also became engulfed. 

Both vessels were total losses, Tighe said. Damages were also incurred by some surrounding equipment, and the 200-ton lift used to remove and place those boats in the water sustained major fire penetration and is out of service.

Ray Perry, the town’s emergency management director, said Friday the blaze started when workers were making repairs to the hull of a powered superyacht. They had cut out a section of the hull and were working with resin, a flammable substance.

Tighe echoed that narrative Sunday (initial reports were “the workers were working on the yacht and were working with resin material making repairs”) but noted the exact circumstances were still under investigation.

“Initial impression is that it was accidental,” Portsmouth Police Detective Lt. John Cahoon said in an email to The Daily News on Sunday night. But “our investigation is still active.” He pointed to investigatory efforts by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Two Hinckley employees suffered injuries, Tighe said Sunday. One employee was evaluated and cleared on scene. The other employee “suffered moderate burns and was transported by Navy Rescue to Newport (Hospital). They reported on scene Friday that his condition was serious. I do not have an update as of right now,” Tighe said.

Requests for comment from Tara Regan, general manager of Hinckley Yacht Services, were not returned.

Ted Fitzgerald, regional director for public affairs with the U.S. Department of Labor, confirmed that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), which oversees working conditions, responded to the incident on Dec. 10 and opened an inspection of Hinckley Yacht Services. 

“The inspection is ongoing,” Fitzgerald said in an email Monday. “The purpose of an OSHA inspection is to determine which workplace safety standards apply in a particular workplace and situation and whether the employer complied with those standards.”

The blaze and subsequent response

Tighe said the initial 911 call came in at 10:27 a.m. on Friday.

“(One) of our fire officers was at the New England Boat Works facility down the street on a fire prevention call and was on scene at 10:29 a.m.,” Tighe said. That officer requested a second-alarm assignment be dispatched.

Tighe explained a first-alarm assignment engages two Portsmouth Fire Department engine vehicles, a ladder truck, a mutual aid engine vehicle, a mutual aid rescue wagon and a shift commander. It also notifies the chief, assistant chief and fire marshal to respond and “calls back off duty PFD fire personnel.”

A second-alarm assignment sends all those units, plus three more mutual aid units (in this case, engine vehicles from Bristol, Tiverton and Newport).

In addition, three tankers and three marine fire boats were added to the mix “due to historical low water issues in the area via hydrants,” Tighe said. Tankers from Middletown, Tiverton and Jamestown were dispatched. Newport Marine 6, North Kingstown Marine 5 and Bristol Marine 7 also responded.

A third alarm for ladder trucks was struck at 11 a.m. The Naval Station Newport Fire Department and Warren Fire Department heeded the call. The Providence Canteen also responded to provide water and food for emergency personnel, Tighe said.

The yacht was “fully involved” by 10:32 a.m., Tighe said. To be “fully involved” means more than 75% of a structure is engulfed in flames.

Units from the Portsmouth Fire Department arrived on scene at 10:34 a.m. and laid 500 feet of hose from a nearby hydrant and began dousing the main boat fire. A boat building nearby — full of restoration projects, previously described as vintage yachts — became the object of focus for protection, Tighe explained.

“Protecting this building became the priority due to the large fire hazard it presented and if it had become involved, we could have been faced with the whole waterfront side of the area being involved,” he said.

All mutual aid companies cleared the scene by 4 p.m. Friday, but it wasn’t over for the Portsmouth Fire Department. Local firefighters stayed on site throughout the weekend due to smoldering hot spots and wind conditions.

The scene was scheduled to be excavated Monday, Tighe said. It’s a process that involves heavy machinery digging into the rubble and spreading the material so investigators can take photographs and emergency personnel can verify there are no more smoldering sections “before it is hauled away to a licensed disposal facility,” Tighe explained.

“As you can tell, a huge incident and a lot of moving parts and entities working with us to make sure it was handled,” he said.

The vessels

Cahoon on Monday said one of the boats was called Drinkability. "I can’t release any info on the involved parties at this time," he said.

According to Superyacht Times , Drinkability is a motor yacht just over 100 feet long, built by Ocean Alexander from Taiwan; Drinkability is the 33rd largest yacht built by Ocean Alexander.

Superyacht Times reported thatthe other vessel that caught fire is called Danneskjold , a sailing yacht just over 100 feet, the largest yacht built by Southern Ocean from New Zealand.

Yachts Danneskjold and Drinkability Total Losses after Fire

In the morning of Friday, December 10, 32-meter S/Y Danneskjold and 30-meter Ocean Alexander M/Y Drinkability caught fire at the Hinckley Yachts yard in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. A man working on one of the vessels was transported to an area hospital for a burn injury, local media WPRI reports. Both boats have been declared a total loss.

Danneskjold owner Bill Duker told BOAT International that his crew were forced to “run for their lives” and that “they are very shaken — it all happened very fast.”

It is understood that the fire originated on Drinkability , which was in a travel lift while shipyard staff worked on the bottom of the boat, and Danneskjold was alongside Drinkability undergoing maintenance work.

Portsmouth’s Emergency Management Director Ray Perry says the blaze started when workers were making repairs to the hull of a motor yacht and they had cut a section of the hull and were working with resin, a flammable substance, according to local media The Newport Daily News . Three small propane tanks exploded while he was on the scene, but larger propane tanks in the area were moved.

Eight municipalities were called to assist in fighting the blaze and contain it so it wouldn’t spread, like to a nearby structure with vintage yachts. Portsmouth police Detective John Cahoon says workers pulled a boat out of the water and were reinforcing the bottom of the vessel when “somehow the fire started,” The Newport Daily News reports.

According to BOAT International , Duker was informed of the incident from a crewmember and that his first concern was for his crew. “For us, it’s a financial issue but for them, it’s their home and their jobs and all the plans they had made,” he says. “We’ve assured them that we’ll make sure they’re okay.”   He purchased the vessel at the end of October, but he hadn’t even gotten the chance to spend a night on board.

The official cause of the fire remains unknown.

Postcards from Gulag

Photographs from the remnants of the gulag archipelago, watchtower, perm-36, perm krai.

Perm-36 is allegedly the only Gulag camp that has been turned into a museum. While this is not strictly true (there are other former camps that have been partly preserved) and Perm-36 is heavily reconstructed, the museum has conserved an important part of the Soviet camp system, especially from its latter era after the death of Stalin. Perm-36 camp operated from the 1940s until the last days of the Soviet Union, and it was meant mainly for the political prisoners and dissidents. Among the dense forests of Russia near the Ural mountains stands a solitary watchtower of the former camp. Behind it, inside the zona , one finds relics of the barracks, but somehow the tower itself, a symbol as poignant as barbed wire, communicates the utter isolation of Gulag victims.

The international children festival of theatre arts “Long Break”

What is the international child festival of theatre arts “Long Break”? It is a real holiday for young spectators and their parents. The international child festival of theatre arts “Long Break” will be hold from the 30th of April to the 5th of May. It will be in Perm and Lysva. It will be hold under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture, Youth Politics and Mass Communications of Perm Krai. The program of the festival is prepared by Russian and foreign experts of child theatre. There are the most interesting for children events of the world arts. The “Long Break” familiarizes children with actual artists. It is the platform where people communicate with people using the language of modern arts which is understandable for a new generation.

The festival “The White Nights in Perm”

• The participants of the festival of land art “Ural Myths” will create art objects using natural materials. The objects will have the same mythological idea.
• During the festival of bears “MedveDay” the masters Teddy-makers will tell gripping stories about a symbol of the city. They will organize some exhibitions of teddy bears and they will give master classes.

• The exhibition “Mammoth’s track” will gather mammoths from different corners of Russia on Perm’s territory. There will be even a famous mammoth Dima.
• And at last the international festival of street arts «Open sky» will represent the various program: carnival processions, a 5-day master class «Mask Art», street shows and performances, performances of Russian and foreign street theatres.

The IX International festival “Heavenly Fair of Ural”

From the 26th to the 3rd of July the IX International festival “Heavenly Fair of Ural” takes place in Kungur. There will be a fight for the I Privolzhski Federal Disctrict Cup for aerostatics and the VII Perm Krai Open Cup for aerostatics.This year Kungur won’t hold rating competitions which results are taking into general account of the pilots. They counted on creating entertainment activities “Air battles over Kungur”. There will be the representatives of sub-units of ultralight aviation, detachment of parachute troops and water means. All the battles will take place straight over the city. And natives will take part in the festival too.According to initial data 15 aeronauts and about 50 ultralight aviation pilots expressed willingness to take part at the festival. And a dirigible pilot confirmed his participation.Ultralight aviation pilots will take part in the “Air games” within the festival. As last year a campsite of ultralight aviation will base in an area near a village Milniki.

# RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECTURE PROJECTS

The owner of this apartment is a prosperous business woman, loves to travel, cook and entertain guests. Recently acquired light and one-room apartment on the 22nd floor in the city of Perm.

"I started with, asked his good friend from ALLARTSDESIGN, Permian designer Saranina Art, help me to develop the project," - says the hostess.

Constantly visiting in Europe, the owner wanted the design of his apartment with a European flavor. In the atmosphere, which could have been spending a lot of time with guests, have a bright bedrooms, a spacious kitchen and a mix of modern trends and Scandinavian notes. Future interior should be light and airy, as well as insolirovan in all areas.

The task was inexpensive means to create a modern apartment with minimal forces.

Thinking layout, we have tried to fulfill all the wishes of the owner. Firstly the apartment was only 2 windows, and the task was to have natural light in the bedroom, the kitchen and the living room as possible. Secondly needed a large wardrobe, in which it would be possible to hide all unnecessary in the interior, but right at home. And just as there was a problem of a small bathroom, which is required to locate the washing machine, toilet with sink and shower.

The division of areas into zones we made of glass - for sale on the perimeter light curtains. We've got to transform a common space in the cozy space playing lighting in the bedroom, you can get the effect of soft box, or just zadёrnuv curtain bedrooms - reduce the time to tidy.

Originally proposed layout did not fit into the new concept. The hostess decided to redevelop, we have successfully placed: dressing room, sleeping area, which already is sunlight. Kitchen we appartment. And in order that you can watch TV from the bedroom and living area - we set the bar, which is mounted in the very screen, thereby dividing the area indicated by dots and functionally. We shared a bathroom on the functional areas. On the right, on the podium, we put the washing machine, and a large water heater, which is hidden behind the mirrored door. Directly opposite the entrance, we supply more, for the room sink, which allowed us to get away from small volumes, creating the effect of space. The color palette, as planned, done in bright colors to create a color contrast accents in furniture and textiles - which is convenient to change with little investment, rather than to repaint the walls and spend the time and money.

The decoration studios we used natural materials. Floors, we have made of bleached, aged ash planks and put "in Extension" wall - soundproofed from neighbors and pokleit brick by doing it in different colors. The corridor is made of bricks as well, making it easy to clean the surface from contamination. The ceiling of the economy and to support the overall style - just embellishing - thus we have kept high and saved again on the finish. Bathroom we made half-painted white glass and shower area formalized natural marble.

Interior doors we made to order with a hot glass of black, pokleit it on a plywood base, under the pens were originally filmed templates - further on them were drilled hole diameter required.

Upholstered furniture we bought in Europe, the scenery from KAREDESIGN.

Wiring is made of retro cable in white color, and layout graphically drawn up on the walls and ceiling.

Dynamic space is not overloaded with unnecessary details due to a successful integration of all necessary equipment and storage systems. Glossy surfaces reflect sunlight and along with soft lighting and create an atmosphere of undoubted comfort. All built-in furniture, doors are made specifically for this project, which gives it even more unique.
