CHENNAI: The trailer of Vetrimaaran's eagerly-awaited upcoming film, 'Viduthalai', was released on Wednesday. The film features Soori and Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles.

The makers had already announced that the film is to be presented in two parts -- 'Viduthalai-1' and 'Viduthalai-2'. Both parts of the film are to be presented by actor, producer and politician Udhayanidhi Stalin's production house, Red Giant Movies.

Produced by RS Infotainment's Elred Kumar, the 'Viduthalai' franchise is being made on a whopping budget.

The star cast of 'Viduthalai' includes Vijay Sethupathi, Soori, Bhavani Sre, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajeev Menon and Chethan.

Maestro Isaignani is composing music for the film.

The film is set to hit the big screens on March 31.

CHENNAI: Ace director Vetrimaran's eagerly-awaited upcoming film,'Viduthalai', featuring Soori in the lead and actor Vijay Sethupathi as 'Vaathiyaar', will release in two parts, its makers have now announced. Only recently, a train and Railway bridge set worth Rs 10 crore was erected for the film. The train compartments as well as the bridge were made using the same materials that engineers use to manufacture trains and build bridges. Earlier, the art department headed by Jackie had erected a huge village set in Sirumalai. The makers of 'Viduthalai' say that it is an intense story that needs proper storytelling to make sure it appeals to the audience. It is for this reason that they say they decided to break the story into two different parts. Currently, preparations for shooting a breath-taking action sequence between Vijay Sethupathi and Soori are going on in Kodaikanal. Peter Hein is choreographing this action sequence in which a group of proficient stuntmen from Bulgaria will be a part. The star cast of 'Viduthalai' includes Vijay Sethupathi, Soori, Bhavani Sre, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajeev Menon and Chethan. Maestro Isaignani is composing music for 'Viduthalai', which features cinematography by Velraj.

VETRI MAARAN'S VIDUTHALAI WILL RELEASE IN TWO PARTS

Vetri Maaran has been working on his upcoming film, Viduthalai, for the past few months . What started off as a small project has now turned into a franchise.

On September 1, Vetri Maaran announced that Viduthalai would release in two parts. The shooting of the first part has been wrapped up and only a few portions have to be filmed in the second part. The shooting is currently progressing at a brisk pace in Sirumalai and Kodaikanal.

Another immersive socio political period drama from Vetrimaaran. His craftsmanship and control over layered storytelling is simply stupendous. The police brutality, custodial violence and systemic oppression is portrayed in a disturbingly hard hitting manner. How media turn into a PR machine to the system for delivering manipulated incidents through social narratives were well depicted. The lead character perfectly resonates the common man dilemma, as he gets caught in between the struggle. The opening single shot sequence sets the tone straight away. And along with the final 20 minutes, they are two standout impact sequences.

Based upon a power struggle conflict between government and revolutionary activist groups, the first part sets up its world, emotional landscape and conflicts effectively with enough question…

Vetrimaaran, in glorious form once again, shows cop violence in its most brutal form yet, with Soori as the honest, powerless cop holding the narrative together. Absolutely not for the faint-hearted. Must-watch!

The opening sequence, a continuous shot, was extraordinary for the way the camera covered the entire location for a long duration, and also heartbreaking showing the loss of human lives. Vetrimaaran, from this sequence, tells the viewer, "Be prepared to get mind fucked". The scene reminded me of 'Atonement''s superb Dunkirk sequence. We then see Soori's introduction. The mere mention of Vetrimaran is a hypetrain for his film and Vetrimaran easily surpasses that. After a long wait, Viduthalai arrives as a special and scintillating film, that only Vetrimaran has guts to make. The film is the journey of the constable recruit, who in turn becomes rooted in the violent conflict between the police and the revolutionaries. As all the paths come together, there’s more tension and revelance of truth, that makes the character meet dark ends and change their mindsets.

Definitely the most underwhelming Vetrimaaran film so far... although I don't know if its really fair to call it a "film" because only half the story has been told. The whole story of Vada Chennai has also not been told yet but the first film still holds on its own, this however just felt like the first half of a movie...

don't feel great about the gratuitous violence against women and how it's used here, it's not done especially offensively here but it is always frustrating to see it used as a shortcut to underline just how evil someone is and cliche to have women characters exist only as tools to move the male lead along. that said it's an incredible film, cried more than once, it's beautiful and soul crushing and i both can't wait to see the conclusion and am dreading it

Soori is a revelation here; easily his career best yet. Vijay Sethupathi, with his terrific screen presence and powerhouse potential as an actor, makes every scene he’s featured in, though few and far between, his own. The long takes are fantastic. Ilaiyaraaja’s work here is among his finest of late; “ Kaattumalli ” is an instant favorite. Overall, yet another great work, with its focus on its hard-hitting politics and unapologetic commentary about police brutality searing as ever, from one of the greatest filmmakers of our time. Vetrimaaran never disappoints. Can’t wait for  Part II .

Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai Part 1 and Part 2 - new announcement and latest shooting spot pictures get fans excited!

National Award-winning Tamil filmmaker Vetri Maaran's next film Viduthalai is one of the most-anticipated films in development he is working on at present and is his next big theatrical venture after Asuran in 2019. Touted to be a crime thriller, the film produced by Elred Kumar's RS Infotainment banner will see popular Tamil comedy actor Soori making his debut as the hero as a policeman, while 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi will be appearing as a convict and his role is described as central to the story. With Viduthalai announced to be coming out as two films, the makers announced on Friday evening, December 30, that the shooting has wrapped up on both installments, with post-production work currently in full swing for the first part, while also sharing a few photos from the shooting spot where the team can be seen in good spirits. 

In the new set of pictures from the Viduthalai shooting spot, we see Vetri Maaran along with producer Elred Kumar, the film's hero Soori, cinematographer-actor R. Velraj, among others in the crew, amidst scenes of celebration, while also posing for pictures. Based on acclaimed Tamil writer B. Jeyamohan's short story titled Thunaivan , the upcoming two-parter film being released in Tamil Nadu by Red Giant Movies is said to be an intense crime drama and will revolve around Soori and 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi, who is playing a crucial role, with the star cast also featuring names like Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Chethan, and Bhavani Sre among others.

Viduthalai is also the first time Vetri Maaran and legendary composer and 'Maestro' Ilaiyaraaja have teamed up, and expectations for their collaboration are massive among fans, who have been waiting for the duo to come together and work on a film for a long time. For a while now, the makers have also teased the action in the film to be on a grand scale and stunt choreographer Peter Hein is said to have conceived top-notch sequences.

VIDUTHALAI MOVIE REVIEW CLICK TO RATE THE MOVIE

Viduthalai is a huge triumph of conviction. Vetri Maaran successfully brings out the hero who was hidden within Soori all this while. On the surface, Viduthalai is an unconventional tale of the underdog. There is lots of drama, emotions, and simmering tension. We wait for the hero to explode for the unfair treatment meted out to him, but he is willing to grind it out to hold onto his principles. It isn't just but the discriminatory system treats him like he's merely a pawn in a game of one upmanship. Soori is like us - A man of hope. A man looking forward with hope. But the system sucks his blood out like a leech.

Soori abstains himself from his usual antics and transforms into Vetri Maaran's faithful disciple. A restrained yet compelling performance. You root for his triumph despite knowing the obvious. And when his moment of glory arrives, you can't hold back from clapping for him. Bhavani Sre gets her big break as the leading lady. An endearing performer with a lot of promise. Chetan is the biggest surprise of the film. As the face of police brutality, he is relentless and cruel. He isn't in your face, the torture handed out to the hero is an everyday habit for Chetan. It's part of the rigidness that defines him.

At the other end of the spectrum is Gautham Vasudev Menon, who balances out the brutality by being a bit more humane when compared to the other cops in the film. He is on the good side. Or is he? Let's wait and watch in the next part. Every character in the film is neatly fleshed out. Even the smaller supporting characters do their bit in elevating the film.

The last but most important piece of this puzzle is Vijay Sethupathi as Vathiyar. Not much is revealed about him. But we are given a glimpse of what awaits us in the second part. We know that he stands for the oppressed. And the glimpse create enough hype for the Vathiyar character, giving us a terrific non-conventional cliff hanger.

Ilayaraja's background score is haunting and pulls us into the film. Velraj's cinematography and Jacki's art direction lend to the authenticity of the film. It almost feels like we are stuck within a rigid and flawed system without any redemption. 

As was the case with Visaranai and Jai Bhim, Vetri Maaran doesn't hold back in showcasing the brutality of the police force. It's raw, real, and gritty. The good thing is that there is more to come in the next part. Viduthalai 1 is yet another great attempt by Vetrimaran spearheaded by a wonderful performance by Soori.

Vetrimaaran, Vijay Sethupathi gear up for their next release!

Director Vetrimaaran's last directorial venture in Tamil was the Oor Iravu segment in the 2020 Netflix anthology film Paava Kadhaigal . The filmmaker's feature film release before that was Asuran in 2019 and ever since his fans have been waiting for a new movie from the director. Much like his 2018 Vada Chennai , which released as a Part - 1, Vetrimaaran's next film Viduthalai is also releasing as a Part- I. Recently the filmmaker was pictured beginning the dubbing process for the movie with one of his leads - actor Vijay Sethupathi.

A c rime-drama adapted from B. Jeyamohan's 1993 short story Thunaivan that was released on Vikatan, Viduthalai - Part 1 stars comedian Soori in a full fledged lead role. The story follows the encounter attempt of a teacher (played by Vijay Sethupathi), with Soori playing police constable Kumaresan,  one of the police officers taking him towards his end.

Viduthalai - Part 1 is expected to be ridden with communism, politics and a lot of other hard-hitting subjects. Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies is releasing this movie in Tamil Nadu. Produced by Eldred Kumar's RS Infotainment, Viduthalai also stars Gautham Menon, Prakash Raj, Rajiv Menon among others and has Ilaiyaraaja for music.

Period vampire thriller “ The Vourdalak ” is set to stalk American audiences.

Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to “The Vourdalak,” which will be released exclusively in theaters on June 28. Directed by Adrien Beau, the movie had its world premiere in the International Critics’ Week section at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, before screening at dozens of European festivals and opening in Beau’s native France.
