Advanced/High Wind Windsurfing with Clément - Sunday, June 16 2024

Registration

• High Wind Windsurfing – $50.00 Members must submit payment to reserve a spot. A reservation may be canceled up to 7 days before the start of class.

Prerequisites:

• Registered as a UBC Sailing Club member for the current season
• 10 times on the water (with 10 knots of wind or more) after completing intermediate windsurfing
• Be comfortable with the beach start
• Being able to stay upwind without daggerboard

Note: If this class is full, you are welcome to join our waitlist on this Signal app group  (login required).  If the class does not reach the minimum required number of registrants, we will cancel the class to avoid running it at a financial loss to the club. You will be notified of a canceled class about 24 hours before the start of the first session.

Join us for an exhilarating high wind windsurfing lesson on Sunday, June 16th! The lesson will kick off at 9 AM at Jericho and wrap up around 6 PM. Our adventure will take us to a stunning location - either Squamish, Porto Cove, or Harrison Lake. Please note that transportation to these sites will be arranged separately and is not included in the course fee.

High wind conditions are essential for this session, and our ability to conduct the lesson depends on favorable weather. In the event of unsuitable conditions, we will provide a full refund or a credit to your UBSSC account, if you prefer. Get ready for an unforgettable day on the water!

Advanced windsurfing lessons aim to help you sail in high winds with a smaller board. This course covers:

• Planning and using the foot straps.
• Water start.

To pass the course, your instructor must feel confident in your ability to do the following:

• Take proper care of the lighter and more delicate advanced equipment in a safe manner.
• Be able to water-start with enough wind.
• Be able to control the board while planning and using the foot straps.
• Select appropriate gear for the conditions.
• Be able to self-rescue back to shore at any point.

For you to pass this course, your instructor must see that you can demonstrate all of the above and they must feel confident that you can safely launch and return to shore.

Winnetka Yacht Club

Located in beautiful Winnetka Illinois on the shore of Lake Michigan, we are a Yacht / Social Club to promote and enjoy Stand Up Paddling (SUP), Sailing, Kayaking, and the many beaches of Winnetka. We are hoping to be based out of the Lloyd Beach boat house. 

As the WYC develops,  we plan on having weekly events for the different groups within the Club - Weekend morning paddle groups, or weekday evening "Beer Can Regattas for the sailors. The plan is to grow the Events Calendar to include social events as well.
