Filling out the Crossover line, here comes the Formula 380 Super Sport Crossover, a new player in the arena that will surpass all others. This 38’ in length, 11’ 6” beam contender slots in nicely between the 330/350 Crossover Bowriders and the established 400/430 SSC and ASC models. The 380 SSC incorporates FAS3Tech multi-step technology and a molded structural grid to deliver the sure-footed performance that is a Formula hallmark.

No other 38-foot full-cabin bowrider can boast a full-width cockpit experience with true overnight capabilities for four. The Formula Crossover fleet continues to push class expectations as it challenges others to defy compromise. TWIN OR TRIPLE MERCURY OUTBOARDS, OR TWIN MERCRUISER STERNDRIVES

Cruise on the water at speeds up to the upper 60s with Formula 380 Super Sport Crossover’s Mercury outboard engines. With choices of the triple 350 or 400 Verado, or the Mercury 500R or 450RY, you’ll power through the water with ease. Also available in twin outboard Mercury 600 Verados or twin sterndrive Mercruiser 8.2 Magnum HO power, the engines will respond instantly with the electronic shift and throttle and Mercury Joystick Piloting.

You can comfortably cruise the water thanks to the sea-carving 21-degree deadrise Formula FAS3TECH stepped hull. This feature shows promising performance throughout the Formula Boats Super Sport models.

FULL CABIN AND OPEN BOW

The Formula 380 Super Sport Crossover carries on the legacy of the open bow and full cabin crossover. You’ll have plenty of space and seating to entertain guests on this boat.

The bow includes spacious 360-degree wrap-around seating, making it easy to enjoy a thrilling ride and carry on a conversation. You and your guests can enjoy the six drink holders, a molded-in cooler forward and a trash container that will make your experience convenient and comfortable. The open bow can transform into the perfect entertaining space or sun-lounging area with two dual-height Corian® tables with filler cushions.

Enter the full cabin through the portside helm door and down three solid wood steps. The cabin features woodgrain-finish flooring, molded liner, fixed windows and a 6-foot-5-inch headroom for a spacious entertaining and residential area. Enjoy below-deck entertainment with a 32-inch TV and Blu-Ray player. The U-shaped lounge with a dual-height wood table can welcome guests for a meal and serves a dual purpose in its lowered position for sleeping.

Even while at sea, you can enjoy the convenience of a modern kitchen on the 380 Super Sport Crossover. With beautiful countertops, a spacious sink, microwave, slide-out storage with automatic silent closure, concealed trash container and a large pull-out stainless steel refrigerator, you will have everything you need to cook delicious meals.

The head includes a molded fiberglass sink, woodgrain-finish cabinet, porcelain Flush and Forget® Vacuflush® unit and shower. Enjoy a comfortable sleep in the cabin stateroom with a privacy curtain and queen-size bed with a memory foam mattress.

FULL-WIDTH HARDTOP AND SLIDE-OPEN WINDSHIELD

The Formula 380 Super Sport Crossover features a full-width fiberglass hardtop. The hardtop is motorized with a sunroof that opens to provide views of the sky.

Connected to the hardtop is a top-to-bottom windshield that encloses the cabin for a comfortable space to enjoy the ride. The windshield offers a one-of-a-kind sliding bow window, which creates a seamless entry to the bow from the single-level deck.

TRIPLE COMMAND SEATING

The Formula 380 SSC includes triple command seating, similar to the 430 and 400 Super Sport Crossover models. This seating style provides chiseled support and advanced ergonomics. Adjust the seat bottoms to stand directly on the cockpit sole or rest on the upright seat.

SWIM PLATFORM

Host the ultimate on-water gathering on the expansive swim platform. Enjoy the sterndrive swim platform or opt for the available hydraulic or stationary Water Sport swim platform that extends with four drink holders, an under-mount swim ladder and woodgrain vinyl decking. Boost your and your guests’ on-water experience with the platform entertainment table that includes six drink holders, a recessed snack tray and dual multi-electronic stands.

CONVERTIBLE REAR-FACING SUN LOUNGE

Enjoy your stop at the cove or sandbar on the relaxing, rear-facing sun lounge. This seating arrangement on the 380 Super Sport Crossover includes individual backrests that each person can adjust to their preference. The lounge also includes storage space for four fenders underneath the seat. This comfortable sunning area includes four drink holders and stunning views from beyond the swim platform.

VENTILATION SYSTEMS

With the introduction of the phenomenal new 38SCX, we take Speed & Luxury to new heights. The boat's next-generation Hardtop extends to the gunwales, covers the optional second row bolsters and features a protective three-piece ventilated glass windshield. Exclusively Fountain, the SCX includes a host of standard upgrades including premium six-color upholstery and Marine Mat on the cockpit sole, gunwales, and T-Top. 2020 Donzi 38 ZRC

The passion of a lifetime is what might explain our attraction to the Donzi 38 ZRC. Beautiful and powerful, but easy to handle, this fabulous 38-foot speedboat vanished from our lives more than a decade ago. So, finding one bobbing at a boat show this spring is like spying that old flame at the end of the bar. The desire is undeniable.

And for good reason. The 38 ZRC proved fast, fun and attractive, a combination that made it a big hit—and a champion stock-class race boat—during its initial production run, from 2002 until the turmoil of the Great Recession. Yet a great hull remains a great hull, and its performance is even more potent thanks to new powertrain options and technology. So, the return of the Donzi 38 ZRC to production under the Iconic Marine Group banner put a wry smile on this boat tester’s face.

Iconic chose to splash an example of the original two-step 38 ZRC hull to make the new mold, a better option for recreational use than the four-step race version that Donzi also built back in the day. The hull has a 15.5-degree pad at the keel aft that carries the boat at speed (overall deadrise is 23 degrees) and an 8-inch transom notch. Iconic says the hull form has been “blueprinted,” or optimized for its anticipated weight, power, drive and prop application, all of which are new. Adjustments to the shape and location of a strake, for example, can be measured in fractions of an inch and are guided by experience and intuition. “There’s no software program that can re-create the properties of strakes, a pad and steps, and factor in power and aero- and hydrodynamics,” says Jeff Harris, Iconic Marine Group’s chief operating officer.

The 38 ZRC hull and deck are hand-laid using vinylester resin with high-density foam coring. The transom is cored with high-density Coosa composite, and composite sandwich material is used for stringers and bulkheads. We got a good look at the stringers when we opened the foredeck hatches, since there’s no cabin or liner in this boat.

Interior and Accessories

The Donzi 38 ZRC helped popularize the sit-down cockpit for performance boats, which permits a lower-profile top deck and cowl than are required for a boat with stand-up bolsters, lowering the center of gravity a bit. The skipper and helm mate must slither into floor-mounted seats with bolsters that wrap around the thighs to lock each securely in place. The seats, the rather narrow cockpit, and the curved dual canopy-style windscreens combine to create a sensation akin to being tucked into a high-performance sports car. The wheel on our boat was to port with Mercury Racing Digital Zero Effort controls on a center console. A set of digital/analog Livorsi gauges are mirrored port and starboard on the dash, with a Garmin 8610 screen atop the center stack over rows of trim switches. A Mercury VesselView 502 display is mounted on the steering wheel located to starboard. Footrests are adjustable; the seats are not. The cockpit is finished with three bucket seats aft and tall padded inwales. Small stowage compartments are located below each seat, and a pair of insulated and drained compartments are directly abaft the rear seats.

Our test boat boasted maximum power—a pair of normally aspirated 860 hp Mercury Racing 860 9-liter (552 cid) V-8 engines with the quad-cam four-valve cylinder heads—in a staggered installation, mated to Mercury Racing M6 sterndrives. As high-performance engines go, these 860s are pretty easy to live with. They are covered by a two-year warranty, require 89-octane fuel, and won’t need a factory refresh for 300 hours, according to Mercury Racing.

With champion racer Billy Moore at the throttles, we ran the Donzi on a cool day with flat water on the Pamlico River in North Carolina. The boat hopped on plane with minimal prop slip, and from a cruising speed of 50 to 70 mph, leaped ahead when fed more throttle. The boat felt rock-solid as we clocked a top speed of 116 mph. Moore was still fine-tuning the props and setup, and has since reported a routine 120 mph top speed with the same boat. Our previous reviews of this boat praised its confident and controlled handling in confused chop (think Lake of the Ozarks), conditions we did not experience on this test. We can say that the sit-down cockpit and canopies combine to enhance the sensation of speed; the wind blast roars overhead while the helm area remains calm.

Alternatives in this sit-down performance segment are limited (unless you shop pre-owned), but you might consider the open-cockpit 43-foot-5-inch Outerlimits SV-43 ($799,000 base price with twin Mercury Racing 860 engines), a semi-custom speedster that is longer, wider and lighter than the Donzi, and has a cabin. It’s also much more expensive.

While the 38 ZRC was on hiatus, some performance boaters migrated to sport cats and luxury center-consoles. Maybe the 38 ZRC will spur a revival of classic V-bottom speedboats—rigs that go fast, ride and handle well, and look flat-out sexy doing it.

This new foil assist technology on the Wajer 38 and 38 S, has been developed together with Van Oossanen Naval Architects. Sailing these foiled Wajers makes for a more comfortable ride as there is less slamming on the water and a drier ride, as it reduces spray considerably. In addition, she sails more stable and faster because the boat has less resistance. Preliminary technical research also has shown that the foil assist reduces fuel consumption with 10-20%, while maximum speed increases with 3-6% at equal power.

The Bertram 38 is one of the best sport fish hull designs ever made. The Cadillac of fishing machines. This boat has been cared for its entire life and it shows. It has been re-fit and updated in almost every possible way over the last 10 years. From engines to exhaust tips, wiring, lighting, outlets, gauges, paint, cabinetry, ceilings, carpet, bedding, The Tower, the list could go on and on and on. A small fortune and many many hours have been spent upgrading this boat in almost every possible way. Pretty much the only thing left from 1965 is a bullet proof hull with the structural integrity of a Sherman tank that rides like a Cadillac in almost any sea condition. Structural integrity –The structural integrity of this boat is beyond comprehension and description in words. The one piece hull is made up of layer upon layer of hand laid heavy thick fiberglass and resin and is probably 3 times stronger than anything you can find today and twice as thick as any hull that has been made in the last 30 years. Looking inside the hull you see results of and the definition of true craftsmanship and the pride that went into building this boat. Something you could never find today at any price. The strength of this hull provides a serious extra measure of safetyin the event you encounter any floating debris like a telephone pole or tree. The keel of this boat could probably withstand a major impact that would crack the hull and sink most other boats. If you properly installed a sharp angled piece of heavy steel on the forward entry point where the hull first hits the water….. you most probably could get the ABS (Amercian Bureau of Shipping) approval to change the boats rating to “ICE BREAKER” class-LOL. They start right up, run great and smoke free. If maintained properly these naturally aspirated engines can last a lifetime. Unlike their turbo counterparts they are not pushed to their limits and beat on to drain every ounce of horsepower at the expense of reliability. The tranny’s shift properly and all controls operate as they should. The running gear is corrosion free. The bronze props, stainless shafts and struts are in excellent shape and vibration free. With 420hp and 880 ft. / lbs. of torque the boat will cruise at 15-16 knots though almost any condition and max out at around 20kts. Wiring: The boat has been completely rewired to perfection using the highest grade marine wiring though out. On the 110 side from the 2 - 30 amp shore power receptacles to the 110 volt breakers, switches, outlets, lights and 30 amp battery charger and everything in between. On the 12 volt side from the battery cables to the 12 volt breaker panel, switches, gauges, pumps and everything in between was all re-done to perfection. The Tower: Constructed by a true old school craftsman and custom made for this boat, it is a work of art. Installed about 5 years ago it is in near immaculate condition. The towers design, structural integrity and how it is perfectly mounted on the boat is mind boggling. You could probably lift the boat with a helicopter with the proper lines and rigging tied to the tower-LOL. It must be seen in person to truly be appreciated. It is only rivaled by structural integrity of the boat. The bottom is in amazing shape. It only has a few coats of bottom paint since all the old paint was removed. Topside was recently painted, shines away and is in very nice condition. Thru- hulls: All thru-hulls have been changed and updated about 10 years ago. They are in great shape / open and close freely and are leak free. The Interior: The interior is in amazing shape. Some of the side walls and ceilings of the interior is actually original Bertram gel coat and have a glossy shine like new. The ceilings in each and every room where they are not the original gel coat were redone few years ago using high end marine fabric and trimmed with teak, they are in mint near flawless condition throughout. This year brand new heavyweight Berber carpet was installed throughout the entire boat. The V-Berth bed and 2 twin bed mattresses were also replaced this year with high end custom fit dense temper pedic type foam beds. They are so comfortable you don’t want to get out of bed in the morning. All new bedding this year and curtains were replaced as well. A few years ago brand new custom made teak cabinets were installed in the salon that hold the built in fridge, kitchen sink, microwave, 2 burner electric stove, stainless toaster oven and has plenty of additional storage as well. In the salon running the entire starboard side all new matching teak panels were also installed. Fuel System / Range: The boat is currently rigged with a 350 gallon fiberglass fuel tank that is in nice shape and leak and issue free. When the engines were rebuilt all new fuel lines were installed throughout. At a mellow cruise of about 14-15 knots your burning around 6-7 gph a side giving you a range of about 300 miles, coming home with about 20% of fuel. There is room to add up to more 3 tanks if you want to extend the range. The forward cockpit hatch which had the old antiquated generator could easily fit a 175-200 gallon tank or if you wanted to save that spot to re-install a generator you could add Saddle tanks on the outside of each engine gaining about 100-125 gal each, depending on your preference. Comforts: There is a built in 12,000 Btu A/C in the salon that cools the whole boat very nicely and also a 5000btu thru hatch portable unit for the forward cabin if you want A/C with the cabin door closed for privacy. There is a brand new hot water heater and its also equipped with a 100 gallon water tank so you have hot and cold water in the shower, bathroom and kitchen sinks. The head, holding tank and all plumbing lines and pumps in between are only a few years old and function as they should. Storage: Throughout the boat is plenty of storage. You can store 6 rods in ceiling of salon and 6 in forward cabin. The Forward cabin has 2 huge carpeted lockers, 2 dry storage areas under the V berth itself at the foot of the bed and under the bed itself. There is also an additional closet in the hall. The second cabin which contains 2 beds has a closet, a huge built in shelved storage area by the lower bunk and a built in night table with plenty of draw space as well. The bathroom has a very large 2 shelved storage area above the sink and plenty of storage below the built in sink set up as well. Lighting: Throughout the boat there is a mix of 12 volt and 110 lighting in each cabin area. All running, cabin and spreader lights operate as they should. You can spin her on a dime. This is because the chines are above the water where they won’t dig in. In high speed turns, her outside chine rises well clear of the water where it won’t catch and trip, while her longitudinal steps stop side slips. LESS ROLL – In a Beam sea, the boat is very stable because the V sections develop a strong righting action. Longitudinal steps act as bilge keels which dampen roll. The boat also sits proportionally deeper and is less disturbed by surface waves. Steers easy in following Sea –Because the Bertram has neither flat sections aft nor a sharp forefoot she performs very well steering in following seas at high or low speeds or trying to get in the inlet on a bad day. Unlike the flat aft sections of many conventional hulls that will pitch forward, yaw or even broach in bad weather. Softer ride –Due to the hull design not having an aft planning surface to jolt and jar the boat, the boat will ride more easily through rough seas and be able to cruise comfortably at considerable higher speeds than conventional boats of the same size. Drier Ride– The Bertram’s longitudinal steps throw water out low and flat where it won’t blow back aboard. 3 swimmers attacked by sharks off Florida Panhandle

Two of the victims were teenagers, according to the authorities.

Three swimmers, including two teens, were attacked by sharks in two separate incidents while they were at beaches in Walton County, Florida, on Friday, the authorities said.

A 45-year-old woman was swimming just past a sandbar with her husband at Watersound Beach when she was bitten by a shark around 1:20 p.m., South Walton Fire District Chief Ryan Crawford told reporters.

The unidentified woman sustained "significant trauma" to the midsection of her body, and part of her left arm had to be amputated, Crawford said. She was transported to HCA Fort Walton-Destin Hospital in critical condition.

Around 90 minutes later near Seacrest Beach, which is just four miles from Watersound Beach, a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl were with a group of friends near the first sandbar in waist-deep water when they were injured by a shark, according to Crawford.

One victim was bitten by a shark and sustained "significant injuries," and was flown to Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola Hospital in critical condition, Crawford said.

The second victim sustained flesh wounds to her foot and was transported to Ascension Bay Medical Center in stable condition.

Walton County Sheriff Michael A. Adkinson, Jr. told reporters that officials ordered beaches to be closed after the first incident, however, the order was not fully enacted in time before the teens were attacked.

Authorities also said that the process of changing the beach warning flags along the coastline would have taken about an hour and a half to complete.

Sheriff Adkinson Jr. said the last shark attack in the county was back in 2021 and the last shark-related fatality was in 2005.

"This is an anomaly ... everything from it being three victims, to where it's at," the sheriff said. "All we can do is respond control, and mitigate what we can."

Walton County authorities have reached out to ocean wildlife experts at Mote Marine in Pensacola, Florida, to help in the investigation of the incident, Sheriff Adkinson Jr. said.

Walton County officials reopened the beaches Saturday with extra patrols in the water and red and purple flags to warn swimmers.

"It is important to us that beach patrons recognize and understand the risk of the open water as it pertains not just to surf hazards, but marine life. We ask you to remain situationally aware at all times," South Walton Fire District said in a statement.

The Bay County Sheriff's Office also announced double red flag warnings for its beaches Saturday and had more information on what may be attracting the sharks.

"Sheriff Tommy Ford has been in conversation with [the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission] and has learned that bait fish are schooling near the shore at this time of year which may have been a contributing factor in the attacks," the office said in a statement.

Florida's shark attacks weren't the only incidents reported Friday.

A 25-year-old woman was rushed to a hospital after she suffered a shark bite off Oahu’s North Shore around 2 p.m. local time, according to Honolulu Emergency Services.

"EMS met the patient at the Haleiwa Small Boat Harbor, where she was brought to shore. EMS treated her multiple serious lacerations and transported her to an emergency room," the agency said in a statement.

The unidentified victim's condition was unknown as of Saturday afternoon

Back-to-back shark attacks injure 2 teens, adult near Florida beach; one victim loses arm

Three people were injured in back-to-back shark attacks in waters off Florida's Gulf Coast on Friday, officials said.

Two of the victims - an adult woman and a juvenile girl - were airlifted to hospitals for treatment of their injuries, according to Walton County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Corey Dobridnia.

One of the victims, a 45-year-old woman, lost her lower left arm in the first attack. She was critically injured shortly before 1:15 pm at the beach in Watersound, Florida, about 15 miles up the Gulf Coast from Panama City Beach.

The second incident where two people were injured occurred at Inlet Beach between south Walton and Bay Counties, the sheriff's office said. The victims, ages 15 to 17, were in waist-deep water about 4 miles from where the first attack occurred.

"We're 100% confident that this was done by a shark," Dobridnia told USA TODAY. "It's within, a very short distance it's most likely going to be the same shark."

Officials on the lookout for bull shark

Police have asked the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to lookout for a bull shark, which are common in the area, Dobridnia said.

Officials closed public access to the Gulf of Mexico in Walton counties Friday afternoon, with double-red flags flying over beaches in the surrounding area; anyone violating the closure was threatened with a  $500 fine .

Officials will revaluate when the beaches can be reopened on Saturday after consulting with marine life experts, South Walton Fire District Fire Chief Ryan Crawford said at a press conference Friday afternoon.

"It's rare, exceedingly rare, to have three victims in one day," Crawford said. "We need to get a little time and distance until we can safely allow everybody to go back in the water."

The incidents mark the first shark-related incidents in Florida in 2024, according to trackingsharks.com .

Canadian serial killer Robert Pickton, who brought victims to pig farm, is dead after prison assault

TORONTO (AP) — Canadian serial killer Robert Pickton, who took female victims to his pig farm during a crime spree near Vancouver in the late 1990s and early 2000s, has died after being assaulted in prison, authorities said Friday. He was 74.

The Correctional Service of Canada said in statement that Pickton, an inmate of Port-Cartier Institution in the province of Quebec, died in hospital following injuries in the May 19 assault involving another inmate. He was one of Canada’s most notorious serial killers and his case made international headlines.

A 51-year-old inmate was in custody for the assault on Pickton, police spokesman Hugues Beaulieu said earlier this month.

Robert “Willie” Pickton was convicted of six counts of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2007, with the maximum parole ineligibility period of 25 years, after being charged with the murders of 26 women.

Police began searching the Pickton farm in the Vancouver suburb of Port Coquitlam more than 22 years ago in what would be a years-long investigation into the disappearances of dozens of women from Vancouver’s seediest streets, sex workers and users of drugs abandoned on the margins of society.

The remains or DNA of 33 women were found on the farm. Pickton once bragged to an undercover police officer that he killed a total of 49 women.

During his trial, prosecution witness Andrew Bellwood said Pickton told him how he strangled his victims and fed their remains to his pigs. Health officials once issued a tainted meat advisory to neighbors who might have bought pork from Pickton’s farm, concerned the meat might have contained human remains.

Cynthia Cardinal, whose sister Georgina Papin was murdered by Pickton, said Pickton’s death means she can finally move on from her sister’s murder.

“This is gonna bring healing for, I won’t say all families, I’ll just say most of the families,” she said. “I’m like — wow, finally. I can actually move on and heal and I can put this behind me.”

Vancouver police were criticized for not taking the cases seriously because many of the missing were sex workers or users of drugs.

Canada’s correctional service said it was conducting an investigation into the attack on Pickton.

“The investigation will examine all of the facts and circumstances surrounding the assault, including whether policies and protocols were followed,” the service said in the statement. “We are mindful that this offender’s case has had a devastating impact on communities in British Columbia and across the country, including Indigenous peoples, victims and their families. Our thoughts are with them.”

Pickton’s confirmed victims were six: Sereena Abotsway, Mona Wilson, Andrea Joesbury, Brenda Ann Wolfe, Papin and Marnie Frey.

“Earlier today, I was made aware of the death of an inmate at Port-Cartier Institution,” Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc said in statement. “At this time, my thoughts are with the families of the victims of this individual’s heinous crimes.”

At the time of Pickton’s sentencing, British Columbia Supreme Court Justice James Williams said it was a “rare case that properly warrants the maximum period of parole ineligibility available to the court.”
