Antifoulings lassen sich grob in die Kategorien hartes und selbstpolierendes Antifouling sowie Antifouling mit Teflon oder Silikon unterteilen. Hier haben wir für Sie die wichtigsten Vor- und Nachteile zusammengefasst.

3. Achten Sie auf die Haltbarkeit des Unterwasseranstrichs

Zwar gibt es auch Gewässer, bei denen Antifouling nicht notwendig ist, allerdings sind diese eher selten.

Bei der bioziden Wirkung ist die Menge des abgegebenen Kupfers und Zinks entscheidend.

Gerade harte Antifoulings lassen mit der Zeit in ihrer bioziden Wirkung nach. Fouling kann dann gerade bei sehr langen Standzeiten auftreten, wenn nur noch geringe Mengen Biozid an die Umgebung abgegeben werden.

Tipp: Wir von Vergleich.org empfehlen, dass Antifouling passend zu dem Gewässer auszuwählen. Ein selbstpolierendes Antifouling funktioniert beispielsweise ohne Bewegung nicht, trotz starker biozider Wirkung.

Viele Antifoulings halten nur eine Saison. Gerade hartes Antifouling verliert mit der Zeit seine Wirkung und muss daher überstrichen oder ganz neu aufgebaut werden.

Selbstpolierendes Antifouling kann auch mehrere Saisons halten , allerdings werden in Testberichten zu Antifouling oftmals ein oder zwei neue Schichten pro Saison empfohlen.

Auch Antifouling, das auf PTFE (Teflon) oder Silikon basiert, müssen Sie jede Saison neu aufbringen.

Möchten Sie ein Antifouling, das möglichst lange hält, empfehlen wir von Vergleich.org zu einem selbstpolierenden Antifouling zu greifen, beachten Sie allerdings, wenn das Boot oft in Bewegung ist, löst sich das Antifouling schneller.

Denn beim Auftragen des Antifoulings müssen Sie oft mehrere Stunden bis zur nächsten Schicht warten, um Farbnasen oder Unebenheiten in der Beschichtung zu vermeiden.

Beachten Sie, dass Sie Stellen, die höheren Belastungen ausgesetzt sind, wie beispielsweise den Rumpf, mit einer zusätzlichen Schicht Antifouling schützen sollten.

Möchten Sie Ihr Boot schon im Herbst auf die nächste Saison vorbereiten, müssen Sie beachten, dass nicht alle Antifoulings für die Trockenlagerung geeignet sind.

Gerade harte Antifoulings können oftmals nur einige Monate ohne Wasserkontakt wirksam sein.

Denn ohne Wasser verhärtet sich das Antifouling, was dazu führen kann, dass keine bioziden Wirkstoffe mehr an die Umgebung abgegeben werden können.

Dagegen ist “VC 17 m“, ein Antifouling mit PFTE von International, unbegrenzt lagerungsfähig.

Tipp: Wenn Sie planen, Ihr Boot schon am Ende der Saison für die nächste vorzubereiten, achten Sie auf die maximale Trockenlagerung, denn sonst müssen Sie nochmals eine auffrischende Schicht auftragen.

Allerdings weist Stiftung Warentest im Heft 10/2018 darauf hin, dass laut deutschem Umweltbundesamt die Grenzwerte für Kupfer und Zink in Seen und Flüssen durch Boote oftmals überschritten werden.

Auch das Umweltbundesamt in Österreich weist auf erhöhte Werte von Bioziden in einigen Gewässern hin.

Um die Belastungen durch Antifouling zu minimieren, sollten Bootsbesitzer daher prüfen, ob Antifouling im jeweiligen Gewässer überhaupt notwendig ist. Falls Sie einen Bewuchsschutz benötigen, wählen Sie ein Antifouling mit möglichst geringen Biozidkonzentrationen.

Fazit: Das beste Antifouling bietet einen guten Bewuchsschutz, benötigt nur wenige Schichten und hält lange. Damit Sie zeitlich flexibel sind, hat es kurze Überarbeitungsintervervalle und muss nicht sofort ins Wasser.

4. Muss altes Antifouling entfernt werden?

Um bei der Bootspflege altes Antifouling zu entfernen, sind mehrere Methoden möglich .

Natürlich können Sie den Neuaufbau oder die Erneuerung des Unterwasseranstrichs auch in einer Werkstatt machen lassen, allerdings müssen Sie dabei je nach Größe des Bootes mit Kosten im vierstelligen Bereich rechnen.

Haben Sie einen Lagerplatz im Winter, der Ihnen auch das Anbringen des Antifoulings erlaubt, können Sie sich diese Kosten sparen und die Instandhaltung selbst durchführen.

Viele Bootsbesitzer scheuen den Zeit- und Arbeitsaufwand, jedes oder jedes zweite Jahr den Unterwasseranstrich zu erneuern. Daher sollten Sie sich erstmal die Frage stellen, ob das alte Antifouling komplett entfernt werden muss oder ob ein Anschleifen und Überstreichen mit neuem Antifouling ausreicht.

Muss das alte Antifouling komplett entfernt werden, gibt es drei Methoden , die Sie auch ohne größere Gerätschaften anwenden können. So können Sie das alte Antifouling abschleifen. Dabei müssen Sie allerdings beachten, dass das Antifouling relativ viel Schleifpapier verbraucht und das Abschleifen einige Zeit in Anspruch nimmt.

Ebenso sollten Sie aufgrund der Toxizität vieler Antifoulings eine Absaugung benutzen, damit sich der Schleifstaub nicht verteilt. Eine andere mechanische Methode ist die Abziehklinge. Wenn das alte Antifouling schon anfängt abzublättern, ist diese Möglichkeit relativ einfach.

Ist das alte Antifouling noch teilweise stark haftend, erfordert diese Methode allerdings einen erheblichen Kraftaufwand.

Eine weitere, chemische Methode ist das Abbeizen des Antifoulings. Dabei wird ein spezieller Entferner eingesetzt, der das Antifouling löst, ohne darunterliegende Gelcoats oder Primer zu beschädigen.

Mit gutem Antifouling kann leichter Bewuchs einfach abgespült werden.

Anschließend können Sie das alte Antifouling einfach mit einem Spachtel abziehen.

Allerdings müssen Sie beim Einsatz unbedingt auf die angegebene Einwirkzeit des Herstellers achten, sonst können Gelcoat oder der Antifouling-Primer beschädigt werden.

Muss das alte Antifouling nicht entfernt werden, reicht meist ein Anschliff, damit die neue Schicht gut haften kann.

Allerdings sollten Sie unbedingt darauf achten, dass Sie den richtigen Typ von Antifouling einsetzen, denn leider können Sie eine Art von Antifouling nicht mit einer anderen Art überstreichen.

Momentan gibt es keine Testverfahren zu Antifoulings, die die Marke und Art des Unterwasseranstrichs bestimmen können. Daher sollten Sie sich beim Kauf des Bootes darüber informieren, welche Art des Antifoulings eingesetzt wurde.

Sollte dies nicht möglich sein, können Sie einen Sperrgrund , der auch als Haftvermittler dient, einsetzen, um das Boot trotzdem streichen zu können.

Eventuelle Beschädigungen sollten Sie mit dem passenden Material (Gelcoat, Epoxymasse oder Grundierung) reparieren . Nach dem Schleifen müssen Sie den Schleifstaub mit einem geeigneten Mittel entfernen.

Einfaches Wasser reicht hier leider nicht, sonst verbleiben Schleifpartikel und das Antifouling kann sich nicht richtig mit der Oberfläche verbinden.

Tipp: Beim Auftragen des Antifoulings müssen Sie sich unbedingt an die Angaben des Herstellers halten, lesen Sie die Hinweise auf dem Gebinde und beachten Sie die Überarbeitungsintervalle.

5. Fragen und Antworten rund um das Thema Antifouling

Hier haben wir die wichtigsten Fragen und Antworten für Sie zusammengefasst.

5.1. Bei welchen Temperaturen können Sie Antifouling verarbeiten?

Viele Hersteller von Antifouling wie Seajet, Hempel oder International geben als niedrigste Temperaturen 5 – 10 °C an. Bei niedrigeren Temperaturen verflüchtigen sich die enthaltenen Lösungsmittel nur sehr langsam und daher trocknet das Antifouling nicht.

Bei einigen Unterwasseranstrichen geben die Hersteller ein maximales Zeit-Intervall an, in dem Sie die erste Schicht überstreichen können.

Je höher die Temperatur, desto schneller trocknet die Antifouling-Farbe . Allerdings sollten Sie das Aufbringen von Antifouling bei starkem, direktem Sonnenlicht vermeiden. Denn sonst kann es gerade bei dunklen Farben vorkommen, dass das Antifouling sich stark erhitzt und in Folge leicht abblättert.

Auch bei sehr hoher Luftfeuchtigkeit oder Regen sollten Sie kein Antifouling anbringen. Am besten ist daher mildes, klares Wetter ohne starke Sonneneinstrahlung.

5.2. Können auch Propeller mit Antifouling angestrichen werden?

Auch der Antrieb muss vor Bewuchs geschützt werden.

Leider eignen sich die meisten Antifoulings nicht für den Anstrich des Propellers.

Denn oftmals sind Propeller aus Aluminium und das in vielen Antifoulings enthaltene Kupfer führt in Verbindung mit Wasser zur Korrosion des Aluminiums.

Zwar werden Edelstahl-Propeller immer beliebter, allerdings ist auch dort der Einsatz eines normalen Antifoulings problematisch.

Denn Propeller drehen mit bis zu 10.000 Umdrehungen pro Minute. Daher entsteht wesentlich mehr Reibung, die gewöhnliches Antifouling schnell abschleifen würde.

Greifen Sie lieber zu speziellen Propeller- bzw. Z-Antrieb-Antifoulings, diese halten den hohen Belastungen stand.

5.3. Gibt es rechtliche Vorschriften für Antifouling?

In Deutschland gibt es keine landeseigenen einheitlichen Vorschriften . Einige biozide Stoffe wie giftige Organozinnverbindungen wurden in der EU bereits verboten, manche Länder wie Dänemark, Schweden oder Norwegen habe spezielle Vorschriften, ob und mit welchem Antifouling Boote beschichtet werden dürfen.

Auch in den Niederlanden gibt es genaue Regulierungen, welche Unterwasseranstriche verarbeitet werden dürfen. Planen Sie Ihr Boot auch in Gewässern außerhalb Deutschlands zu nutzen, informieren Sie sich über die bestehenden Vorschriften, im Zweifelsfall drohen Ihnen sonst nicht unerhebliche Geldstrafen.

Das Propeller-Antifouling Trilux Prop-O-Drev von International überzeugt uns gleich in zweierlei Hinsicht: durch eine einfache Anwendung dank eines sehr präzisen Sprühstrahls, und mit langanhaltender Wirkung. Allerdings bietet das Spray einen vergleichsweise weniger starken Schutz – was bedeutet, dass es leicht schädlicher auf Wasserorganismen wirkt als andere Produkte. Dafür ist das Produkt relativ ergiebig: Eine Dose reicht demnach für eine Fläche von 2,5 Quadratmetern.

International ‎35990117

Das Antifouling VC 35990117 von International ist überstreichbar und mit einem Lösungsmittel hergestellt. Wir finden es praktisch, dass dieses Produkt für Blei, Glasfaser sowie Gusseisen, Holz und Stahl geeignet ist. Allerdings gehört es im Antifouling-Verglich zu den Produkten, die nicht für verzinkte Oberflächen und Aluminium geeignet sind. Die Trocknungszeit dieses Produktes liegt bei 20 Minuten bei einer Temperatur von 20 °C. Allerdings ist dieser Artikel mit einer Füllmenge von 750 ml und einer Ergiebigkeit von 9 m2 pro Liter eher weniger profitabel.

Guten Tag, ich bin neuerdings stolzer Besitzer einer Dehler 28 und möchte den Unterwasseranstrich erneuern. Leider ist der alte Anstrich nicht mehr zu retten. Der Bewuchs hier eher gering und ich möchte lieber keine heftige Chemiekeule verwenden. Welches Antifouling ist da empfehlenswert? LG Andreas

Lieber Andreas, erstmal Glückwunsch zum neuen Boot. Die “Dehler 28“ hat einen GFK-Rumpf, daher sind fast alle gängigen Antifoulings einsetzbar. Wenn Sie die Umwelt schonen möchten, raten wir zu “Silic One“ von Hempel, denn es enthält keine Biozide und bietet trotzdem ausreichenden Schutz vor Bewuchs.

Allerdings müssen Sie beachten, dass “Silic One“ nur einen Monat trocken lagern darf, sonst kann das Antifouling nicht mehr richtig wirken. Daher sollten Sie Ihr Boot erst direkt vor der Saison mit dem neuen Antifouling beschichten.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — April Verrett, President of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), issued the following statement in response to the Biden administration’s newly announced executive order: “Immigrants are part of the fabric of our nation – they are our coworkers, neighbors, family members, and friends. As the union representing the largest number of immigrant workers, SEIU applauds President Biden’s executive action to provide work permits for undocumented immigrants who are married to U.S. citizens and shield them from deportation, as well as their children. Due to technicalities in our broken immigration system, these individuals have been prevented from working legally, and their families have been forced to live in constant fear of being separated. Today’s action will not only bring tremendous relief to their families, but will help build a stronger, more prosperous and more equitable nation. “President Biden’s bold action promises to transform the lives of hundreds of thousands of American families, including children who depend on their parents for well-being, providing hope, stability, and economic security across generations. For the same reason, the administration should take all additional necessary actions within its legal authority to bring some order to our immigration system, such as expanding Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to include all countries that qualify due to unsafe conditions, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nepal, and Nicaragua. This would be a tremendous relief to families who have lived here, in some cases for many years, enabling them to work legally and continue to contribute to our economy and communities. “The work doesn’t stop there. We won’t stop fighting until we have a fair, humane, and orderly immigration system with a path to citizenship for all immigrants, who are indispensable to our workforce and their families. New York appeals court declines to hear Trump's challenge to gag order in hush money case

The New York Court of Appeals on Tuesday declined to hear former President Donald Trump's appeal of the gag order in the hush money case in which he was convicted last month.

The court said it was dismissing the  appeal  "upon the ground that no substantial constitutional question is directly involved."

That means the gag order imposed on Trump by state Judge Juan Merchan is still in effect.

Trump first asked the appeals court in mid-May, before he was found guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, to eliminate the gag order that has restricted Trump from making comments about members of the jury, witnesses, court staff and prosecutors.

Trump repeatedly railed against the gag order throughout the trial, which lasted about a month and a half. The former president was found to have violated the order mutiple times, which led to Merchan fining Trump $10,000 and  threatening to put him in jail  if it happened again.

In early June, Trump attorney Todd Blanche sent a letter to Merchan requesting that he terminate the gag order, arguing that “because the trial has concluded, the stated bases for the gag order no longer exist.” The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, which prosecuted the case, opposed the request by Trump’s legal team.

The jury in the case  found Trump guilty  on May 30 of all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, which marked the first time a former U.S. president was convicted of a crime.

Following the conviction, Trump  may have further violated the gag order  by making comments about two witnesses in the case: Robert Costello, who testified for the defense, and Michael Cohen, the prosecution's star witness and Trump's former lawyer, though Trump didn't explicitly name him.

The former president is scheduled to be sentenced in the case on July 11. On June 10, he met virtually with a New York probation officer for a pre-sentencing interview.

Jury Awards Banana Company Victims $38.3 Million in Landmark Human Rights Case

Washington, D.C., June 10, 2024 – Today, an eight-member jury in West Palm Beach, Florida, found Chiquita Brands International liable for funding a violent Colombian paramilitary organization, the United Self-defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), that was responsible for major human rights atrocities during the 1990s and 2000s. The weeks-long trial featured testimony from the families of the nine victims in the case, the recollections of Colombian military officials and Chiquita executives, expert reports, and a summary of key documentary evidence produced by Michael Evans, director of the National Security Archive’s Colombia documentation project.

“This historic ruling marks the first time that an American jury has held a major U.S. corporation liable for complicity in serious human rights abuses in another country,” according to a press release from EarthRights International , which represents victims in the case.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro reacted to the news on X (formerly Twitter) by asking why Colombian justice could not do what had been done in a U.S. court.

In 2007, Chiquita reached a sentencing agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice in which it admitted to $1.7 million in payments to the AUC, which was designated a terrorist organization by the United States in 2001. Chiquita paid a $25 million fine for violating a U.S. anti-terrorism statute but has never before had to answer to victims of the paramilitary group it financed. In 2018, Chiquita settled separate claims brought by the families of six victims of the FARC insurgent group, which was also paid by Chiquita for many years.

This trial focused on nine bellwether cases among hundreds of claims that have been brought against Chiquita by victims of AUC violence. The nine plaintiffs were represented by EarthRights, International Rights Advocates, and other attorneys who years ago agreed to consolidate their claims against Chiquita and collaborate in multidistrict litigation (MDL) in the U.S. District Court for Southern Florida. Today, the jury found Chiquita liable in eight of the nine cases presented to them.

Plaintiffs contended that Chiquita willingly entered into “an unholy alliance with the AUC,” a group responsible for horrible atrocities and grave human rights abuses, at a time when the banana company was buying land and expanding its presence in Colombia’s violent banana-growing region. Attorneys for Chiquita argued that the company was “clearly extorted” by the AUC and had no choice but to make the payments. [1]

Jurors found that the AUC was responsible for eight of the nine murders at issue in the case; that Chiquita had “failed to act as a reasonable businessperson”; that “Chiquita knowingly provided substantial assistance to the AUC” that created “a foreseeable risk of harm to others”; and that Chiquita had failed to prove either that the AUC actually threatened them or that there was “no reasonable alternative” to paying them.

Testifying on May 14, Evans described the “1006 summary” he created for the plaintiffs tracking ten years of Chiquita’s paramilitary payments and based exclusively on thousands of internal records produced by Chiquita in the case. Evans explained how he sorted through thousands of payment request forms, security situation reports, spreadsheets, auditing documents, depositions, legal memoranda, and other documents from Chiquita’s own internal records to create the summary, which tracks over one hundred payments to the AUC, most of them funneled through “Convivir” self-defense groups that acted as legal fronts for the paramilitaries.

Importantly, Evans found Chiquita payments to Convivir groups beginning in 1995, two years earlier than Chiquita had previously admitted, and several other Convivir payments not included on the list proffered by Chiquita in the case that resulted in the 2007 sentencing agreement. Other notable items in the schedule include payments that were funneled through an armored vehicle service run by Darío Laíno Scopetta, a top leader of the AUC’s Northern Bloc who is now serving a 32-year sentence in Colombia for financing paramilitary operations.

Since 2007, the National Security Archive has obtained thousands of internal records on Chiquita’s “sensitive payments” in Colombia through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and through FOIA litigation, even overcoming Chiquita’s “reverse FOIA” attempt to block the release of records by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Key revelations from these FOIA releases are featured in numerous publications from the Archive’s Chiquita Papers collection. Since most of these records and many related documents were also produced during the discovery phase of this case, plaintiffs asked Evans to summarize them in the schedule that was presented at trial.

The schedule of paramilitary payments was also one of the last images left in the minds of jurors as plaintiffs closed their case-in-chief several weeks ago. After discussing the details of some of Chiquita’s more unusual paramilitary transactions, lead counsel Marco Simons of EarthRights walked the jury through the text of a document that was featured in the Archive’s first-ever Chiquita Papers posting in 2011 . Written by Chiquita in-house counsel Robert Thomas, the handwritten memo described assurances from Chiquita staff in Colombia that payments to a paramilitary front company were necessary because Chiquita “can’t get the same level of support from the military.”

Plaintiffs also relied on the Chiquita Papers records during the cross examination of key defense witnesses who were involved in making the illicit payments. In one example, plaintiffs drew from an internal report on the conflict situation in Colombia in 1992 ( originally published here ) to help elicit important admissions about the origins of the paramilitary payments from Charles “Buck” Keiser, the longtime general manager of Chiquita operations in Colombia. The report from Chiquita’s Colombia-based security staff said that among the armed groups then getting payments from Chiquita was one, the Popular Commands, that was considered a “paramilitary” group. Prompted by documents and other evidence, Keiser steered the jury through the process by which voluntary payments to the Popular Commands became payments to the AUC. (See our previous posting featuring key documents about Keiser and 12 other Chiquita officials accused of crimes against humanity in Colombia.)

Crucially, Keiser also admitted that a supposedly pivotal meeting with top AUC leader Carlos Castaño that has long been one of the pillars of Chiquita’s duress defense had virtually no bearing on the company’s decision to pay paramilitary groups and that, in fact, the company had already begun to pay paramilitary-linked Convivir self-defense groups long before the Castaño meeting. Several witnesses, including Keiser, also admitted that the company had never actually been threatened by the AUC or been the victim of AUC violence, according to trial transcripts.

Since his first day in office, President Biden has called on Congress to secure our border and address our broken immigration system. As Congressional Republicans have continued to put partisan politics ahead of national security – twice voting against the toughest and fairest set of reforms in decades – the President and his Administration have taken actions to secure the border, including:

• Implementing executive actions to bar migrants who cross our Southern border unlawfully from receiving asylum when encounters are high;
• Deploying record numbers of law enforcement personnel, infrastructure, and technology to the Southern border;
• Seizing record amounts of fentanyl at our ports of entry;
• Revoking the visas of CEOs and government officials outside the U.S. who profit from migrants coming to the U.S. unlawfully; and
• Expanding efforts to dismantle human smuggling networks and prosecuting individuals who violate immigration laws.

President Biden believes that securing the border is essential. He also believes in expanding lawful pathways and keeping families together, and that immigrants who have been in the United States for decades, paying taxes and contributing to their communities, are part of the social fabric of our country. The Day One immigration reform plan that the President sent to Congress reflects both the need for a secure border and protections for the long-term undocumented. While Congress has failed to act on these reforms, the Biden-Harris Administration has worked to strengthen our lawful immigration system. In addition to vigorously defending the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood arrivals) policy, the Administration has extended Affordable Care Act coverage to DACA recipients and streamlined, expanded, and instituted new reunification programs so that families can stay together while they complete the immigration process.  Still, there is more that we can do to bring peace of mind and stability to Americans living in mixed-status families as well as young people educated in this country, including Dreamers. That is why today, President Biden announced new actions for people who have been here many years to keep American families together and allow more young people to contribute to our economy.   Keeping American Families Together

• Today, President Biden is announcing that the Department of Homeland Security will take action to ensure that U.S. citizens with noncitizen spouses and children can keep their families together.
• This new process will help certain noncitizen spouses and children apply for lawful permanent residence – status that they are already eligible for – without leaving the country.
• These actions will promote family unity and strengthen our economy, providing a significant benefit to the country and helping U.S. citizens and their noncitizen family members stay together.
• In order to be eligible, noncitizens must – as of June 17, 2024 – have resided in the United States for 10 or more years and be legally married to a U.S. citizen, while satisfying all applicable legal requirements. On average, those who are eligible for this process have resided in the U.S. for 23 years.
• Those who are approved after DHS’s case-by-case assessment of their application will be afforded a three-year period to apply for permanent residency. They will be allowed to remain with their families in the United States and be eligible for work authorization for up to three years. This will apply to all married couples who are eligible.  
• This action will protect approximately half a million spouses of U.S. citizens, and approximately 50,000 noncitizen children under the age of 21 whose parent is married to a U.S. citizen.

Easing the Visa Process for U.S. College Graduates, Including Dreamers

• President Obama and then-Vice President Biden established the DACA policy to allow young people who were brought here as children to come out of the shadows and contribute to our country in significant ways. Twelve years later, DACA recipients who started as high school and college students are now building successful careers and establishing families of their own.
• Today’s announcement will allow individuals, including DACA recipients and other Dreamers, who have earned a degree at an accredited U.S. institution of higher education in the United States, and who have received an offer of employment from a U.S. employer in a field related to their degree, to more quickly receive work visas.
• Recognizing that it is in our national interest to ensure that individuals who are educated in the U.S. are able to use their skills and education to benefit our country, the Administration is taking action to facilitate the employment visa process for those who have graduated from college and have a high-skilled job offer, including DACA recipients and other Dreamers.

Most Insurance Companies require a Survey to put a vessel on risk and subsequently every five years if the vessel is over 20 years old. They will also want to know the vessel's fair market value is. Damage Surveys: To report on the damage area recommend repairs and if needed give a probable cause

Insurance survey

This survey is performed so that the insurance company can determine whether or not the yacht is an acceptable risk. They are interested in structural integrity, equipment and safety for its intended use. 

Most Insurance Companies require a Survey to put a yacht on risk and subsequently every five years if the yacht is over 20 years old. They will also want to know the yachts fair market value

Valuation survey

Any estimate of valuation provided is base d on known average retail values achieved by craft of similar type and condition in the same location and should not be confused with the replacement value, which may be substantially higher, particularly in the case of rare or unusual boats. Valuations assume a willing buyer and a willing seller and the current market conditions at the time of the valuation and are based on opinions and are not representations of fact.

Ariana DeBose Is Exactly the Host That the Tony Awards Need

I know that we’re post-post-post award show by now, but I’m finding myself unusually excited about the 77th Tony Awards . Maybe it’s because the Tonys represent the rare chance for the Broadway community that fed so many of us gay adults as weird kids (sorry, am I projecting?) to bask in the glow of mainstream media coverage, but I think it also has something to do with Ariana DeBose , who’s returned to host the ceremony for the third year in a row.

DeBose, an Oscar-winning actor and dancer, is a theater kid through and through, in the best way possible. She’s always brought energy and excitement to the somewhat staid job of hosting the Tonys, and even her most meme-worthy moment—shouting out Angela Bassett in a goofy rap at the 2023 BAFTA Awards that quickly went viral—speaks to her unmatched ability to entertain under pressure. (Admit it, “Angela Bassett did the thing” played on a loop in your head for weeks afterward.) After many years’ worth of underwhelming celebrity-host performances, DeBose’s willingness to look a little silly in order to put on a memorable show has felt like a breath of fresh air. That said, maybe we’ll know we’ve achieved some sort of genuine entertainment-industry parity when DeBose is able to show up at the Tonys, do the absolute bare minimum, and still keep getting the job.

Even at last year’s undeniably daunting unscripted Tonys, DeBose kept things moving (and dancing!) the whole time, all while stating crucial support for the 2023 WGA strike , no less.

But a touch of whimsy is far from the only thing that DeBose brought to this year’s Tonys; she’s also a producer on the show , and choreographed the opening number—for which she wore dazzling vintage Bob Mackie—alongside her creative partner Julius Anthony Rubio. “Our show is going to move like a Broadway show. We want to give you a full Broadway experience,” DeBose promised viewers this week, and while it’s a tall order, she’s already proved she’s more than up to the task.

Biden prepares an order that would shut down asylum if a daily average of 2,500 migrants arrive

President Joe Biden on Tuesday unveiled plans to enact immediate significant restrictions on migrants seeking asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border as the White House tries to neutralize immigration as a political liability ahead of the November elections.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is telling lawmakers that President Joe Biden is preparing to sign off on an executive order that would shut down asylum requests at the U.S.-Mexico border once the average number of daily encounters hits 2,500 between ports of entry, with the border reopening only once that number declines to 1,500, according to several people familiar with the discussions.

The impact of the 2,500 figure means that the executive order could go into immediate effect because daily figures are higher than that now.

The Democratic president is expected to unveil the actions — his most aggressive unilateral move yet to control the numbers at the border — at the White House on Tuesday at an event to which border mayors have been invited.

Five people familiar with the discussions on Monday confirmed the 2,500 figure, while two of the people confirmed the 1,500 number. The figures are daily averages over the course of a week. All the people insisted on anonymity to discuss an executive order that is not yet public.

While other border activity, such as trade, is expected to continue, the 1,500 threshold at which the border would reopen for asylum seekers could be hard to reach. The last time the daily average dipped to 1,500 encounters was in July 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Senior White House officials, including chief of staff Jeff Zients and legislative affairs director Shuwanza Goff, have been informing lawmakers on Capitol Hill of details of the planned order ahead of the formal rollout Tuesday. But several questions remain about how the executive order would work, particularly how much cooperation the U.S. would need from Mexican officials to carry out the executive order.

The president has been deliberating for months over how to act on his own after bipartisan legislation to clamp down on asylum at the border collapsed because Republicans defected from the deal en masse at the urging of Donald Trump, the former president and presumptive Republican presidential nominee. Biden continued to consider executive action even though the number of illegal crossings at the southern border has declined for months, partly because of a stepped-up effort by Mexico.

Biden administration officials had waited until after Mexico’s presidential elections, held Sunday, to move on the U.S. president’s border actions. Mexico elected Claudia Sheinbaum , the nation’s first female leader, and Biden said in a statement Monday that he was committed to “advancing the values and interests of both our nations to the benefit of our peoples.” The two spoke on the phone Monday, although White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to say whether they spoke about the pending order.

“We continue to look at all options on the table,” Jean-Pierre told reporters traveling with Biden on Air Force One on Monday evening.

The executive order will allow Biden to declare that he has pushed the boundaries of his own power after lawmakers, specifically congressional Republicans, killed off what would have been the toughest border and asylum restrictions in some time. Biden’s order is aimed at trying to head off any potential spike in border encounters that could happen later this year, closer to the November elections.

Trump’s campaign said in a statement that the order would not be effective and that if “Biden truly wanted to shut down the border, he could do so with a swipe of the same pen.”

Trump, describing illegal border crossings as an “invasion,” is trying to blame Biden for recent incidents of migrants being charged with violent crimes, though many studies have shown that immigrants typically commit violent crimes at lower rates than those born in the U.S.

For Biden’s executive order, the White House is adopting some policies directly from the bipartisan Senate border deal, including the idea of limiting asylum requests once the encounters hit a certain number. The administration wants to encourage migrants to seek asylum at ports of entry by using the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s CBP One app, which schedules about 1,450 appointments per day.

Administration lawyers have been planning to tap executive powers outlined in Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which gives a president broad authority to block entry of certain immigrants into the U.S. if it is deemed “detrimental” to the national interest. It is the same legal rationale used by Trump to take some of his toughest actions on migration as president.

That has advocacy groups already preparing to challenge Biden’s immigration order in court.

“We will need to review the (executive order) before making final litigation decisions,” said Lee Gelernt, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union who led several of the most high-profile challenges to Trump’s border policies. “But a policy that effectively shuts down asylum would raise clear legal problems, just as (it) did when the Trump administration tried to end asylum.”

The White House is also sure to encounter vocal resistance from many Democratic lawmakers. California Sen. Alex Padilla, an outspoken critic of the Senate’s earlier border bill, said the pending executive order was “just not the solution we need and it’s very incomplete as a strategy.”

Padilla, who was also briefed by the White House on the proposal, wants an approach that works with countries throughout Latin America to address the poverty and unrest that drives migration to the United States. In recent weeks, Padilla has also pressed the White House for executive actions that benefit immigrants and said the message he has heard in return is, “We’re working on it.”

Biden will unveil his executive order flanked by several border mayors whom the White House invited for the announcement. Texas Mayors John Cowen of Brownsville and Ramiro Garza of Edinburg both confirmed their invitations, and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria’s office also said the White House invited the mayor, but he could not attend due to scheduling difficulties.

Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Texas Democrat who said he was briefed on the plan, said he wishes the White House would have taken executive action a long time ago and said cooperation from Mexico would continue to be critical as the administration implements the order.

“If you think about the logistics, where else can they go?” Cuellar said. “If they’re not going to let them in, where do they go? Do they return them (to Mexico), or do they try to deport as many as they can? We did add a lot more money into ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) so they can deport, but the easiest thing, of course, is just send them back to Mexico. You’ve got to have the help of Mexico to make this work.”

Jennifer Babaie, an attorney at Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center in El Paso, Texas, said she would be alarmed if Biden issued formal deportation orders without an opportunity to seek asylum. Advocates worry he may attempt that under the 212(f) provision.

Pandemic-era expulsion authority known as Title 42 had “a silver lining” for migrants because they could try again without fearing legal consequences, Babaie said. But a formal deportation order would expose them to felony prosecution if they attempted again and it would impose bars on legally entering the country in the future.

“This is even more extreme than (Title 42), while still putting people in harm’s way,” Babaie said.
