With its sleek lines, sculptural silhouette and refined materials, the Admiral is a quintessential Giorgio Armani design .

Instead of clothing, accessories and homeware, the famed Italian designer has transposed his signature elegance to a 72-metre mega-yacht, commissioned by a private buyer. The designer has teamed up with The Italian Sea Group, the largest shipbuilder in Italy, to bring the behemoth to fruition.

Due for delivery early next year, the ship was recently unveiled at an event at the Marina di Carrara in Tuscany, Italy. More than 650 guests, including shipowners, brokers, VIPs and international press, gathered to mark the occasion.

Highlighting how the yacht is an extension of his long-established design ethos, Armani also treated guests to an exclusive showing of his spring/summer 2023 menswear and womenswear collections. A shimmer of gold wound its way through the women’s pieces, which included long, liquid dresses, fluid jackets and weightless skirts. Sequins glimmered in the light, while mandala motifs contributed to a sense of lightness. For menswear, outfits were louche and laid back, but impeccably tailored, running through a palette of blues, inky purples and shimmering greys.

This same deft approach is seen in the interiors of the new yacht, which include refined materials such as Carrara marble, hand-crafted finishes and a masterful melding of vibrant and more subtle hues. Textured wall coverings in shades of grey set the tone in the boat’s massage room, while wooden floors are set against a column of striated marble in the gym. In the living area, marble floors are set against plush seating by Armani/Casa , with minimal accessories, to accentuate the simple, sophisticated aesthetic. A pool and lounge area round off the luxurious interiors.

Admiral is the first of two yachts designed entirely by Armani. The imposing exterior is defined by large, sharp, geometric volumes, which are softened with curves. Large, full-height glazed openings infuse the interiors with natural light, which can be managed via cleverly positioned sliding panels.

The designer approached the interiors as he would a piece of ready-to-wear clothing, combining form, function and craftsmanship. "The sea and design are two of my greatest passions,” says Armani.

“With this new collaboration, I have extended my idea of furnishing and decor to the nautical world, in which — just as in fashion — aesthetics and functionality come together in a natural and elegant style. This highly stimulating project has allowed me to create customised spaces with Armani/Casa, like made-to-measure clothing, with the same craftsmanship applied to the choice of materials, details and production.”

Admiral is the benchmark brand of The Italian Sea Group and has produced 148 yachts since its launch in 1966. “This megayacht, the result of an exciting partnership of which I am extremely proud, is further confirmation of our way of being able to realise unique projects with 'Made in Italy' brands that share our values,” says Giovanni Costantino, founder and chief executive of The Italian Sea Group.

“Giorgio Armani is synonymous with timeless elegance and sophistication, and his stylistic vision has also increased our stylistic sensitivity. This new yacht is projected to be positioned as a stylistic benchmark, also given the countless comments and regards we’ve received from various industry players. This, therefore, confirms our business model, which aims to customise every detail in order to make each of our works absolutely unique, in line with the vision and desire of each owner."

Giorgio Armani Designed a Superyacht—And It’s Stunning

By Katherine McLaughlin

Black and white rendering of a superyacht

If you’re moved by both design and the ocean, as Giorgio Armani recently shared he is, crafting a superyacht just makes sense. “The sea and design are two of my greatest passions,” the famed fashion designer recently said in a statement. “With this new collaboration, I have extended my idea of furnishing and decor to the nautical world, in which—just as in fashion—aesthetics and functionality come together in a natural and elegant style.” The project in question is Admiral, the first of two superyachts designed by Armani that was unveiled this past weekend in Marina di Carrara, Italy. Crafted in collaboration with The Italian Sea Group , a luxury superyacht firm based in Marina di Carrara, the 236-foot vessel will be delivered to its buyer in early 2024, according to a press release.

“This mega-yacht, the result of an exciting partnership of which I am extremely proud, is further confirmation of our way of being able to realize unique projects with Made in Italy brands of excellence that share our values,” Giovanni Costantino, founder and CEO of The Italian Sea Group, said in a statement.

The onboard gym includes expansive windows.

Defined by bold yet relaxed decor, subdued simplicity, and effortless luxury, the vessel is designed with the same timeless qualities that Armani has long imbued in his clothes and furniture. “This highly stimulating project has allowed me to create customized spaces with Armani/Casa—like made-to-measure clothing—with the same craftsmanship applied to the choice of materials, details, and production,” the designer added. Early renderings show multiple lounges, a gym, and a spa, which artfully express the minimalist touch Armani has historically valued in his creative philosophy. According to the press release, all spaces will be built with the highest-quality material and finishing, adding notable luxury without an over-the-top aesthetic.

A pool and bar make relaxing on the upper deck of the ship even more enjoyable.

The exteriors of the ship showcase two curved volumes, which create a dramatic but affable silhouette. A large and full-height glazed opening allows plenty of light into the ship, and sliding panels will allow the future owners the opportunity to adjust levels as necessary. Though the buyers were not shared publicly, it’s clear what they want out of their ship: something that’s both modern and classic, rich but pared down, opulent and understated. For this, they’ve got one of the best designers in the game. As Costantino said, “Giorgio Armani is synonymous with timeless elegance and sophistication.”

giorgio armani designs stately 72-meter admiral megayacht with luxurious amenities

Giorgio armani with the italian sea group.

Luxury on the sea might be on Giorgio Armani’s mind when he designs the opulent 72-meter Admiral superyacht for The Italian Sea Group whose interior design was unveiled on February 11th during an evening gathering at Marina di Carrara, the headquarters of the yacht production. Giorgio Armani and The Italian Sea Group first announced their collaboration on March 30th, 2021, and fast-forward to 2023, the design and construction of the 72-meter Admiral motor yacht are looking at a 2024 release date.

Conceived under the Admiral family of The Sea Italian Group, Giorgio Armani’s megayacht blends the exquisite aspects of the nautical and fashion worlds. Gold accents underline the earthy tones of the yacht’s interior with their subtle addition to the already grand fixtures and design elements that come from Armani/Casa. Flimsy curtains peek through the sea’s view with their translucent material, dividing the spaces without entirely closing them off one another.

Large, rectangular sofas with a myriad of throw pillows invite yacht-goers to recline and laze about while sipping cocktails. There also seems to be a dedicated, modest dining space beside the communal area should the guests prefer a more intimate setting. Here, plush beige-colored armchairs replace usual dining chairs to harmoniously flow with the atmosphere’s intended design. Divisions are paneled through moveable pieces rather than opting for irreversible ones.

72-meter admiral megayacht with opulent design

Stepping outside the megayacht that Giorgio Armani has designed for Admiral and The Italian Sea Group , guests can easily enjoy the shifting landscapes of the sea and horizon as L-shaped seating areas greet them from the get-go. In the evening, a romantic feel comes through as lamps planted in corners and around the wood-planked deck emit a soft glow. Whether it is for a casual meeting or an all-out party, the megayacht’s deck is a must-stay space for those who enjoy watching the movement of the watercraft or just being out in the open.

The full specs of the megayacht will soon be revealed, but as seen in the photos that the duo has shared, the megayacht enjoys a number of luxurious amenities such as an upper deck that allows guests to be on the eye level of the horizon, a gym room with essential equipment to get their sweat running and calories burning, and a massage room to pamper the guests and let their steam off for a while before heading to the party.

Giovanni Costantino, Founder and CEO of The Italian Sea Group, comments that Armani  is synonymous with timeless elegance and sophistication and its stylistic vision will also increase the group’s stylistic sensitivity. ‘The new motor yacht, which combines technology and excellence in design with the distinctive features of Armani and its deep identity will give us great satisfaction,’ he says. ‘This agreement, of which I am extremely proud, is a further confirmation of our way of being able to realize unique projects with Made in Italy brands of excellence that share our values.’

The project, launched in 2020 and developed by Giorgio Armani and histeam in collaboration with the Admiral Style Centre, interprets and blends the DNA of the two brands to create a one-of-a-kind, avant-garde megayacht, the result of an encounter between the most exquisite aspects of the nautical and fashion worlds.

This yacht is the first of two designed entirely by Giorgio Armani, whose unmistakable style is immediately recognizable in both the exterior lines and the refined interiors. Timeless minimalism, which has always been part of the designer’s creative philosophy, redefines the very essence of the high-end megayacht concept in a radical yet elegant way, basing itself on the principles of simplicity and sophistication.

The design of the exterior, featuring a clear architectural influence, is both meticulous and captivating: large, sharp, geometric volumes are perfectly balanced with curvier, softer shapes, for an ensemble that is majestic yet dynamic. Thanks to the large, full-height glazed openings, the effect inside is one of being seamlessly immersed in light and the surrounding environment, which can be adjusted thanks to a clever positioning of sliding panels.

The Armani/Casa interiors amplify Giorgio Armani’s aesthetic philosophy, offering discreet, refined luxury and subdued tones. The décor is bold yet relaxed; the overall harmony is provided by a combination of elements that are skillfully combined into a space that is unquestionably exclusive and one of its kind. The apparent minimalism finds its counterpoint in the use of exquisite, refined materials, fine hand-crafted finishes, and a masterful mix of soft or vibrant colors.

MILAN — Giorgio Armani and The Italian Sea Group will present their 236-foot Admiral motor yacht on Saturday at Marina di Carrara, Italy.

The project, launched in 2020, was developed by Armani and his team in collaboration with the Admiral Style Centre. The hull is completed but the yacht will be delivered in early 2024 — and it already has a buyer. The yacht is the first of two.

“The sea and design are two of my greatest passions,” said Armani. “With this new collaboration, I have extended my idea of furnishing and decor to the nautical world, in which — just as in fashion — aesthetics and functionality come together in a natural and elegant style.”

This marks the first time Armani was involved in such a venture, although he did oversee the furnishing and design of his two personal yachts, Mariù and Maìn.

Armani described the new yacht as “a highly stimulating project,” which has allowed him to create customized spaces with Armani/Casa , “like made-to-measure clothing — with the same craftsmanship applied to the choice of materials, details and production.”

The impressive exterior will be marked by large, sharp, geometric volumes balanced with curvier, softer shapes. Founded in 1966 and acquired by The Italian Sea Group in 2011, Admiral has launched 148 yachts so far.

The Italian Sea Group went public on the Milan Stock Exchange in the summer of 2021 and is active in the construction and refitting of motor yachts and sailing yachts up to 140 meters. Armani has invested in the group, as reported.

In addition to Armani, The Italian Sea Group has partnered with Automobili Lamborghini, for the design and creation of the “Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63,” a limited-edition of high-performance motor yachts.

In December, Etihad Airways revealed that Armani/Casa was designing “The Constellation Collection,” seats and furnishing, cutlery and serving ware, for the airline’s business class.

In 2010, the first Armani Hotel opened in Dubai in the Burj Khalifa tower in a partnership with Emaar Properties, followed in 2011 by the opening of the second hotel in Milan.
