GITANA Yacht – The Incredible $18M Feadship Superyacht

The GITANA yacht is an $18M superyacht from Feadship which has stood the test of time since its first launch in 1997.

She features interior design from John Munford, exterior design from Guido de Groot Design, and naval architecture by De Voogt Naval Architects.

She is a magnificent yacht on the water with a rich history of sailing experiences.

The interior of the GITANA yacht features a Deco -Caribbean motif and woodwork accents designed by John Munford.

There are accommodations for 12 guests in 5 cabins with a full-beam master suite and four staterooms below deck with two queen beds, two twins, and a Pullman bunk in each to add extra sleeping arrangements.

The master suite has a king-size bed, a large closet, a couch and chaise lounge, and a desk. There is also a state-of-the-art entertainment system and large windows for expansive ocean views.

An ensuite bathroom features a steam shower, jacuzzi, skylight, and a mural. All the staterooms have an ensuite bathroom and entertainment offering.

There are accommodations for ten professional crew members that cater to every need of guests onboard. 

There are many indoor-outdoor areas for guests to be entertained and enjoy. The full-beam open salon has comfortable seating for guests to kick back and enjoy the views from the oversized windows.

The swim platform is accessed by a covered aft seating area which allows easy access to the water and toys on the upper deck.

The sundeck is impressive with a gym area, jacuzzi, sun pads, and a barbecue grill. Forward of GITANA, there is an abundance of seating for relaxation.

Feadship  built the GITANA yacht in their Aalsmeer shipyard in 1997. Her exterior was designed by Guido de Groot Design, and her naval architecture by De Voogt Naval Architects. It has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure.

The 25 years old ship has just gone through an extensive six-month refit in Feadships’ Scheepsbouw in the Makkum, Netherlands dry dock facility.

She has been launched in turn-key condition with a new paint job with the state-of-the-art premium Alexseal polyurethane with a gloss enhancer. The underwater surface area has been renovated with complete sandblasting back to bare steel.

She was then undercoated and finished with antifouling paint. Her refit includes a comprehensive mechanical and running gear refit.

The GITANA yacht is a 48.15m superyacht with a beam of 8.68m and a draft of 3.08m.

She has a volume of 499 gross tons and two caterpillar engines to power her through the water. She has a cruising speed of 12 knots and a maximum speed of 14 knots.

The yacht has a range of 5900 nautical miles. She has advanced at anchor stabilizers to provide exceptional comfort levels for those on board. GITANA will be completing her Lloyds 25-year classification renewal.

Gitana 17 is a 32m fully foiling trimaran built to a Verdier design to compete in both crewed (by a team of six) and solo races and record attempts. Skippered by Charles Caudrelier, it has won the Rolex Fastnet Race , Transat Jacques Vabre and Brest Atlantiques.

“Gitana in particular, even though it’s not the most recent Ultime, has very good sailors who have constantly been evolving it so that at the moment it is the most optimised boat,” continues Salen.

The Swedish co-owner of The Ocean Race and former co-president of the Volvo Ocean Race , Johan Salen has been involved with the race since competing in it in the late 1980s. Also a former professional windsurfer, Salen has previously cruised around the world on an Outremer with his wife and son and now lives aboard a Fountaine Pajot Aura 51 .

GITANA’s 2006-07 extensive refit included interior refurbishment which replaced the art deco style interior with warm dark woods and rich fabrics creating a stylish Peruvian influenced look. The elegant interior furnishings create a refined yet warm atmosphere to enjoy entertaining relaxing or dining. In the refit, she also had her sundeck remodelled. The Spa Pool was brought forward creating a generous area aft with sunbeds to relax and enjoy the panoramic views, plus alfresco dining, relaxing and entertaining areas. In addition, there was also a gymnasium added.

GITANA has also been fitted with zero speed stabilizers enhancing her stability to ensure total comfort while at anchor. She has a great selection of water sport toys which can be enjoyed from her large aft swim platform. She can attain a cruising speed of approximately 11.5 knots and a top speed of 14.5 knots.

The attention to detail from Wilbur Yachts, in building this vessel, was extensive with many custom features. There are excellent accommodations for the owner and 4 guests. GITANA is finished with teak joinerwork and a teak and holly sole. Proceeding to the lower or stateroom deck the finish shifts to a Herreshoff style with varnished Cherry trim on flat white panels. The Owner's stateroom has a full cherry interior. The sole forward is carpeted with an attractive Berber Rug.

Starting forward is the Guest Stateroom or Crew's Quarters features a very large (6'-8") V-berth with filler at the foot of which is access to the chain locker and additional stowage. Below the V-berth there are 4 drawers and 2-drop face lockers and a "dressing seat". Further fwd under the V are large bin stowage areas. Above the V-berth are cherry ceilings planks and then 4 lockers P&S with cane faced drop front doors. Aft of the Starboard berth is an ample bureau with 4 drawers with a hanging locker behind. (All lockers referenced as a hanging locker are fitted with a drying bar and lights). There are reading lights at both berths and ample overhead lighting, plus natural lighting from a large hatch and 2 large ports with screens. There is a Craig AM/FM/Cassette system and the stateroom has 2 speakers. The stateroom has its own private head. The head is fitted with a Groco electric toilet, white Corian topped vanity & sink with H&C pressure water, 3 large lockers and drawers for stowage. This head has a common stall shower with the other guest stateroom head.

The second Guest Stateroom is off the fore and aft passage on the starboard side and features upper and lower berths along the inboard side. The upper is twin sized and the lower is 48" in width at the head and tapers toward the foot. There are drawers under the lower berth and a large bureau opposite with 2 shelves forward and 2 lockers aft. Aft and outboard is a generous hanging locker. Light and ventilation are provided by a hatch with screen, a stainless port with screen, large dome lights and reading lamps at the berths. Opposite the Guest Stateroom (across the passage) is the guest head featuring white Corian vanity with integral sink with H&C pressure water, Groco electric toilet, and generous stowage in 2 lockers with shelves, 2 other lockers and 2 drawers. The sole in both heads is tiled, as is the shower stall.

The spacious Master Stateroom runs the full with of the yacht. It is finished with a full cherry interior and features a 6'-6" by 50" island queen berth. There are total of 12 drawers and 1 large locker under the berth. Above the head of the berth, lockers run the width of the stateroom. Nightstands to P&S of the berth have 2 drawers. To port is a large hanging locker with lights and drying bar. There is also a dressing seat with bin stowage under and a bureau that curves around and across the port side of the fwd. Bulkhead and it has 6 drawers. Above the bureau are 3 small drawers and 6 lockers. Forward and to starboard is a second large hanging locker and dressing seat. There is a Craig AM/FM/Cassette stereo and speakers. There are 2 reading lights and 2 overhead dome lights. Natural light and ventilation comes from 2 large stainless ports. The Master Head is to starboard and features an "escape hatch" to the pilothouse, white Corian vanity with integral sink H&C pressure water, electric Groco W.C., deep fiberglass "tub" with shower. The vanity is generous running fore and aft. It provides ample stowage with additional stowage in lockers above.

From the lower passage a graciously curved staircase leads to the raised Pilot House featuring P&S access doors and a full width operators station with navigational electronics. The vessel controls are on centerline. To starboard of this is a full sized cork topped chart table with appropriate lights for work at night, book rack, and 2 full sized chart drawers under which there is a larger locker with 2 shelves. Aft in the Pilot House is a large L-Settee with a fixed table large enough to seat 3-4 people comfortably. There is bin stowage under the settee and there are deep drawers on the starboard side. To the port side of the wheelhouse is a large bureau within which is a generous wet locker. The curved forward face opens to reveal stowage for a full set of code flags. Inboard of this bureau is passage to the Galley, Saloon and Dinette area of the yacht. Along the inboard side of this passage is the ships electrical distribution system.

Down 2 steps is the Dining Area, which is to port, and features a U shaped settee with bin stowage under and a substantial table. The settee measures 6'-10" by 42". Opposite the Dining Area is the Galley, which is sized to make food preparation comfortable for a large party of guests. The Galley is U shaped 6'-8" by 9'-6" and features a Norcold dual voltage refrigerator/freezer, a Grunert top loading holding plate freezer box, a Shipmate 3 burner propane stove with oven and dual stainless steel sinks with H&C fresh water. Counter space and stowage is impressive with 4 large lockers, top loading stowage box and several drawers. The counter tops are done in butcher block forward and white Formica aft.

Aft of the Galley and Dining Area is the main saloon running the full width of the yacht. To port are 2 upholstered swivel chairs forward of which is a large stowage bureau with white counter tops. This houses the icemaker and a locker with bottle stowage. Outboard of the chairs are drop face lockers with stowage out under the side decks. Aft is a teak desk with drop front. On centerline is the door to the cockpit. Opposite to starboard is generous L-shaped settee with bin stowage under. The table raises and lowers on pneumatic assist post to cocktail or dining height and also is on an innovative hidden slide system that allows it to be pulled away from the settee. There is a small corner or end table built in between the section of the L-settee. Forward of the settee is a bureau housing the salon stereo, VCR and 4 storage drawers. Lighting throughout the upper deck is abundant with the large side windows. There are numerous dome lamps, and reading lamps appropriately space as well. Indirect valance lighting is installed throughout the saloon, galley, and dining spaces.

The exterior of GITANA is comfortable and well thought out. There are spacious teak side decks with a varnished teak cap rail. A large stowage locker is to starboard. Nicely angled stairs to the bridge are just aft of the pilothouse doors. On the Flybridge there are two long bench seats running fore and aft with bin stowage inside. Additional stowage is under the full width helm consol. Aft of the flying bridge and the Radar Arch is a "motor" for easy of lowering of the radar arch. When down the bridge clearance is reduced from 36' to only 20'!

From the aft end of the bridge a stainless steel ladder leads to the aft deck. Teak cabinetry to port houses the full sized individual spotlight to provide security and light when boarding from aft. A centerline full width lazarette has voluminous stowage. To starboard there is a transom door to the swim platform.

Wired for 12 volt, 24 volt, 110 volt and 220 volt (for Reversed Cycle A/C units). 20 KW Westerbeke gen set with 1400 hours in a sound shield. Four-8D gel-cell 12 volt batteries (in parallel) (2018') are for lighting and there is recent 24 volt engine starting battery.

The engine room is as generous in size and space as is the rest of the yacht and is kept in every bit as nice condition. Walk in access is from the aft cockpit and there is near standing head room throughout. A sink with H&C pressure water is fitted with small counter space, 12V and 110VAC lighting. The Port engine drives the hydraulic pump for the bow thruster and the 24-volt alternator for engine start batteries and has emergency bilge suction. The starboard engine drives the 12-volt alternator. Excellent access to all mechanicals and auxiliary equipment. The 1400 gallons of fuel stores in 4 aluminum tanks: 450 gal. Fwd, 2-350 gal tanks P&S in engine room and a 250 gal. "belly" tank on centerline.

The hull is light gray with double dark blue boot tops and a red bottom. The transom is varnished teak (over fiberglass). The cabin house, fly bridge etc. is all white awlgrip. Fiberglass Airex foam cored hull. Fiberglass decks and house with full thickness teak overlay in cockpit and on forward and side decks all of which are in excellent condition and show little wear. The flying bridge has an awlgripped deck with slight contrast in the non-skid areas. The transom has a full width teak overlay. The entire hull, and house etc. were re-awlgripped in 2018. The stern was done in clear awlgrip at that time.

Stepping on board S/Y Gitana you immediately experience a sense of freedom. She is beautifully crafted in rich wood contrasted by dark leather. With her vast wooden deck space you are never short of a beautiful spot where you can take in the summer sunshine or simply take in the breathtaking landscapes that you will undoubtedly see. Have breakfast under the shade of the large bimini, enjoy a BBQ at sunset or enjoy an evening drink in the outdoor salon. Watch a movie on the 42” flat screen TV with home cinema system & karaoke which rises and declines from a wooden cabinet just opposite the outdoor salon. There is also a CD/I-Pod sound system. The comfortable and cozy outdoor salon is the perfect place for relaxing, enjoying tranquility and serenity or socializing with friends. Passing the seating area you come to the outdoor dining area which comfortable seats nine people on a sofa and chairs. The table opens to create more space whilst you enjoy al fresco dining. This well equipped deck space ensures that all your needs are tended to whilst you enjoy the beautiful and fresh outdoors on board. Behind the dining area you find yourself at the helm and on the right of the helm, the stairs leading you inside the yacht.

The charming and traditional sailing yacht style of S/Y Gitana offers luxury and comfort whilst being classic and homely. Beautiful fabrics and furnishings in warm and soft colors add a subtle contemporary touch to a timeless interior design. The salon offers a large sofa along with two leather chairs and a low table in the middle. There is a full home cinema system, a Flat screen TV, karaoke and CD/I-Pod stereo system and a 100” projector screen allowing the salon to convert into a cinema area. Next to the seating area and on the right hand side of the TV there is a refrigerator concealed within the wooden cabinets. The dining table comfortably seats up to nine guests. You will enjoy gourmet meals served here by the fantastic Chef which will leave you no less than satisfied. There are two skylights above both the dining area and the salon. This is a beautiful additional feature letting in natural light in a creative and alternative way. Adjacent to the salon and dining area is the conveniently located day head.

The full beam master cabin has a queen size bed, sofa, flat screen TV with DVD/CD full home cinema system and ‘his’ and ‘hers’ separate en-suite facilities. The VIP cabin has a double bed, a Pullman Berth, sofa, flat screen TV and en-suite facilities. The Guest cabin has a double bed, a single bed, a Pullman Berth, flat screen TV with X-box games system and en-suite facilities. All cabins have individually controlled air-conditioning, full Satellite TV programs and CD/DVD player.

There are two sun bathing areas, fore and aft, with comfortable mattresses. These areas allow for privacy or sunbathing with company; all desires are truly met on board S/Y Gitana. The hydraulic swimming platform allows for easy access to and from sea and there is a wide range of water toys on board ensuring that there is undoubtedly something for everyone.

Whether you crave atmospheric and peaceful evenings with friends, active and exciting days frolicking in the sea and sun, quiet family time or nights spent entertaining guests and friends, S/Y Gitana provides an all round ultimate sailing experience.

Kawil is built with a aluminium hull and aluminium superstructure. Powered by 1 x Caterpillar engines, she comfortably cruises at 8 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 12 knots.

Set against the backdrop of your chosen cruising ground, you and your guests can enjoy fun on the water with the collection of water toys and accessories aboard Kawil. Principle among these are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. Extreme sports fans will appreciate the included Kite Surfers. Another excellent feature are WindSurfers - addictive and great fun. If that isn't enough Kawil also features fishing equipment and snorkelling equipment. When it's time to travel from land to see, it couldn't be easier with a 4.27m/14' Zodiac Tender.

Kawil is available upon request for charter this summer. She is already accepting bookings this winter for cruising in the Caribbean.
