GRAND MAJESTIC CRUISE REVIEWS

Cruise rating: 4.8 /5 - 4 customer reviews

Sebastian hi, hope you are all well. We are starting our journey home today and we just wanted to let you know what a wonderful holiday we have had. We have enjoyed every second and we wanted to thank you for all the arrangements you made on our behalf. Everything went totally smoothly and all our guides have been first class. As you know we were a little concerned about the situation in Ecuador before we left, but we can honestly say we have felt completely safe on every stage of our journey. We would encourage everyone to visit your wonderful country. The Galápagos Islands more than live up to billing and the Grand Majestic was the perfect boat for us. Best crew ever and best guide ever. The rest of the guests were marvellous too. Thanks once again for a memorable bucket list trip!!!!!!!!! Please pass on our thanks to everyone in your organisation that made it all possible. We will not hesitate to recommend you to all our friends. Thanks Peter and Marion Jackson January 2024 4.8
Hi Elizabeth Just wanted to say thank you for helping us organize a wonderful trip! It really was the trip of a lifetime. Our guide, Luis, was great, as was the entire crew. Each day was better than the last. Thank you again! Gayle Laurent February 2023 4.8
Hey Fatima! Thank you for all your help with our cruise in the Galapagos! Everything went very well and we loved our boat and crew. You are an amazing resource and we're glad we had your help! Thank you again and take care!! Will McComb August 2022 4.8
Dear Elizabeth, We are back from our trip to Ecuador and Galapagos and I would like to thank you for recommending the cruise on the Grand Majestic. We were delighted by the comfort of the boat, the meals and all the attention of the crew, their kindness, by the activities on board, and by the sympathy and knowledge of the guide. We can only recommend this boat and we are grateful to you for offering it to us. The Swissotel was also perfect; our only regret is that the return flight was 7 hours late but that's a detail. Thank you again and see you soon, maybe for another trip. Annie and Nedret Arslan May 2022 4.8

Grand Majestic Deals

A buffet

The 127-foot Grand Majestic expertly blends luxury and exploration. With eight staterooms for a total of 16 passengers, the ship is filled with chic décor and modern amenities that rival the natural beauty of the Galapagos Islands.

Life Aboard The Grand Majestic Yacht

Picture yourself soaking in a Jacuzzi with a cocktail in hand as you approach your next postcard-worthy stop. This type of relaxation will be yours from the moment you step aboard the Grand Majestic. Built in 2018, the ship offers a perfect mix of indoor and outdoor spaces so that you can be comfortable all day long. If you crave sunbathing, stargazing, or wildlife spotting, the sundeck, which is outfitted with comfortable lounge chairs, an alfresco dining area, and a bar, is the place to be.

The air-conditioned indoor lounge, complete with a large TV, library, and coffee station, is a quiet moment of respite. No matter where you spend your time, a crew of nine will pamper you with excellent service.

Excursions From Your Grand Majestic Galapagos Cruise

The Grand Majestic cruises four itineraries through the islands of the Galapagos. The four-day cruise features the southern islands and includes a stop at Post Office Bay on Floreana Island. You’ll also enjoy snorkeling at the volcanic crater at Devil’s Crown and hike at Gardner Bay, which is a breeding site for 12,000 pairs of waved albatrosses.

Opt for the five-day cruise and see giant tortoises at the Charles Darwin Station and watch sea lions frolic on Lobos Island. Once you see the Galapagos’ ecological paradise, you will never want to leave, so a more extended cruise is always an excellent choice.

The eight-day “A” cruise is a combination of the two shorter itineraries. However, the “B” cruise is a unique itinerary, focusing on Isabela, Santa Cruz, and Santiago Islands. At Targus Cove, a rare opportunity to snorkel with penguins is not to be missed. Hiking at Egas Port provides a chance to spot Galapagos lava lizards and playful fur seals. Black Turtle Cove, which is surrounded by mangroves, is accessible only by dinghy and is a haven for young wildlife, including baby hammerhead sharks, rays, and sea turtles.

You will experience two excursions each day guided by an expert naturalist guide who will answer all of your questions with local knowledge.

A Fast Ship For More Adventures

The Grand Majestic, which was modeled after American luxury yachts, tops out at 25-knot cruising speeds. Surprisingly quick for a ship cruising in the archipelago, the Grand Majestic motor yacht allows you to spend more time playing and less time traveling between islands. You’ll enjoy longer hikes, spend more time snorkeling, and enjoy smooth sails between islands.

The Grand Majestic, available for both pre-scheduled cruises and private charters, is ideal for small, sophisticated groups looking for an upscale way to experience the Galapagos Islands.

Itineraries & Prices

All itineraries are subject to change due to seasonal weather conditions (and resultant variations in river and tributary water levels) affecting accessibility to locations. Thus navigation routes, times and excursions may need to be modified at the cruise captain’s or your guide's discretion.

Embarkation

AM:  You will arrive at San Cristobal Island in the morning. After passing through immigration and baggage claim, you will be met by the Grand Majestic staff and transferred to the yacht. You will be shown to your cabin where you will have some time to settle in before lunch and a welcome briefing.

PM:  In the afternoon we will head on to the Junco Lagoon, located about 700 m above sea level, which is one of the few permanent freshwater bodies in the Galapagos. Frigate birds are often seen here washing the salt from their feathers as well as white-cheeked pintails and common gallinules. Its name comes from a type of plant that is common in this area called “junco”.

Grand Majestic’s 4-Day Itinerary Day One - Frigate Bird Close Up.

Post Office Bay, Cormorant Point & Devil’s Crown

AM : In the 18th-century whalers passing through the islands placed a wooden barrel on Floreana Island for use as an unofficial mailbox. The tradition continues today as visitors leave addressed postcards in the barrel and sort through left mail to deliver at home.

PM : This site hosts a large flamingo lagoon where other birds such as common stilts and white-cheeked pintails can also be seen. The “Green Beach” here is named due to its green color, which comes from a high percentage of olivine crystals in the sand, and the “Four Sand Beach” composed of white coral.

You will have a chance to snorkel around Devil’s Crown which is the rocky remains of an offshore volcano sticking out of the water. This is a great location to spot a wide range of marine creatures.

Grand Majestic’s 4-Day Itinerary Day Two - Snorkelling with Turtles.

Suarez Point, Gardner Bay, Gardner Islet & Osborne Islet

AM : This area is great for spotting Blue-footed Boobies, albatrosses, and Nazca Boobies. A beautiful sight on the oceanfront, the large Waved Albatrosses use the cliff as a launching pad. The famous attraction is the magnificent blowhole, spurting water high into the air. This site presents wonderful photograph opportunities. Highlights include Hood Mockingbird, Nazca Boobies, Waved Albatross, Red-billed tropicbirds, lava lizards, Galapagos Hawk, blue-footed boobies, blowhole, and amazing landscapes.

PM : Gardner Bay, on the eastern side of the island, is the breeding site of nearly all of the world´s 12,000 pairs of Waved Albatrosses. Its white sandy beach is perfect for relaxing, with rocky shores making it a great place for diving and snorkeling. Highlights include a white sandy beach, sea lions, and mockingbirds. Snorkeling offers sights of colorful fish, and a sea lion nursery. After landing, you can walk across a lovely white sand beach amongst a busy sea lion colony or dive into the water to swim with sea lion pups. This small island is a marine visit where you can enjoy fantastic snorkeling and swimming. Highlights include a white sandy beach, sea lions, and mockingbirds.

Grand Majestic’s 4-Day Itinerary Day Three - Blue-Footed Boobies.

Disembarkation

AM:  Los Gemelos, or the Twin Craters, are located opposite each other on both sides of the road leading from Puerto Ayora to Baltra. The name is only figurative, not real craters. These formations were created by the collapse of surface material in underground fissures and chambers. The view is breathtaking.

After this final visit, you will be transferred to Baltra airport in time for your flight back to the mainland.

Grand Majestic’s 4-Day Itinerary Day Four - Disembarkation.

5 Day - Northern & Eastern Islands

itinerary map

AM:  You will arrive at Santa Cruz Island in the morning. After passing through immigration and baggage claim, you will be met by the Grand Majestic staff and transferred to the yacht. You will be shown to your cabin where you will have some time to settle in before lunch and a welcome briefing.

PM:  You will visit “Fausto Llerena” Giant Tortoises Breeding Center in Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island, where giant tortoises are bred in captivity. This is home to tortoises ranging from 3-inches (new hatchlings) to 4-feet long adults. Subspecies of the giant tortoises interact with one another, and many of the older tortoises are accustomed to humans stretching out their heads for a photo opportunity. The babies are kept until they are about four-years-old and strong enough to survive on their own.

Grand Majestic’s 5-Day Itinerary Day One - Fausto Llerena Giant Tortoises Breeding Center.

Prince Phillip's Steps & Darwin Bay

AM : In the morning, you will visit El Barranco (also known as Prince Phillip's Steps). El Barranco’s steep, rocky paths lead up to a high cliff-face. A marvelous view can be appreciated from here. This site is also home to palo santo vegetation as well as red-footed boobies, short-eared lava owls, Galapagos swallows, and Galapagos doves.

PM:  In the afternoon, you will visit Darwin Bay. This white-sand coral beach heads a half-mile trail that winds through mangroves filled with land birds. Nazca boobies, red-footed boobies, and swallow-tailed gulls can be spotted here. Further down the path are tidal pools where sea lions swim playfully. At the end is a spectacular view off a cliff.

Grand Majestic’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Two - Sea Lion in the Sunset.

Rabida Island & Chinese Hat Islet

AM:  Rabida Island is one of the most colorful and volcanically varied islands in the archipelago as well as a perfect snorkeling site. Its famous maroon sandy beach and stunning lookouts provide wonderful landscapes. The island is a birdwatcher’s delight. Some of the rarest species are in abundance, such as nine varieties of finches, large-billed flycatchers, Galapagos hawks, and brown pelicans.

PM:  This small islet is located near the southeast coast of Santiago Island. Its name comes from the distinct shape of the islet’s summit. This small islet is a great location to view many geological formations such as lava tunnels and lava flows. Some of the lava flows were formed underwater and subsequently raised above sea level. The presence of coral heads on the lava flow indicates this phenomenon.

Grand Majestic’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Three - Chinese Hat Islet

Witch Hill & Lobos Island

AM: Located on the northern coast, this eroded hill and its surroundings present one of the most picturesque beaches in the Galapagos with its white powdery sand and the abundance of animals. Wildlife includes sea turtles, rays, and various types of booby birds. The clear water provides an excellent opportunity for enjoying swimming and snorkeling.

PM: In the afternoon we will visit Lobos Island. The name of this island means "Sea Lion Island." This appropriately named island is ripe with noisy, frolicking, jolly sea lions who will welcome you to their home with open, well, fins. This island also offers great snorkeling opportunities as well as the chance to see blue-footed and Nazca boobies.

Grand Majestic’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Four - Swimming Galapagos Sea Lions.

AM : The Gianni Arismendy Interpretation Center is part of an environmental project. The tour of this center will explore the natural history of the islands including human interaction and conservation efforts. The Museum of Natural History explains the volcanic origin of the archipelago, ocean currents, climate, and the arrival of endemic species.

After this final visit, you will be transferred to San Cristobal airport in time for your flight back to the mainland.

They live there wild but in a protected area to ensure their survival by sealing them off from introduced predators like pigs and goats.

Grand Majestic’s 8-Day Itinerary A Day One - David Rodriguez Breeding Center.

North Seymour Island & Black Turtle Cove

AM:  Galapagos sea lions, blue-footed boobies, and magnificent frigatebirds are abundant on North Seymour Island. The island was formed by a series of submarine lava containing layers of sediment that were uplifted by tectonic activity. The island is characterized by its arid vegetation zone.

PM:  In the afternoon, you will visit Black Turtle Cove. Black Turtle Cove is situated in the northern part of Santa Cruz. This inlet is surrounded by mangroves and is only accessible by dinghy. The shallow cove is a safe haven for young marine life. Black-tip and white-tip reef sharks, sea turtles, and a variety of rays are often spotted here.

Grand Majestic’s 8-Day Itinerary A Day Two - Couple at North Seymour Island.

Pinnacale Rock & Egas Port

AM:  Home of the famous Pinnacle Rock, Bartholomew consists of an extinct volcano with a variety of red, orange, black, and even green volcanic formations. A trail of stairs leads to the summit of the volcano, boasting one of the best views of the islands. The beach is perfect for snorkeling and possible sightings of the Galapagos penguin.

PM:  Also known as James Bay, Egas Port is home to the curious Galapagos hawks and quick-footed Galapagos lava lizards. The trail leads to a coastline with gorgeous tide pools and grottos full of fauna. Here the Galapagos fur sea lions bathe in the sun. This is also a great snorkeling site.

Grand Majestic’s 8-Day Itinerary A Day Three - Kicker Rock.

Tagus Cove & Urbina Bay

AM:  Tagus Cove is located across from Fernandina Island, near the Bolivar Channel, dividing the two islands. This spot has been frequented by ships since the 1800s when the area was utilized as an anchorage site. Trails winding by Lake Darwin up to a ridge display wonderful views. Punta Tortuga, just north of Tagus Cove, is another lovely beach surrounded by mangroves.

PM:  Urbina Bay is located at the base of Alcedo Volcano on the west coast between Tagus Cove and Elizabeth Bay. This area experienced a major uplift in 1954 causing the land to rise over 16 feet. The coast expanded half a mile out leaving marine life stranded on the new shore. This area is also a great place for snorkeling.

Grand Majestic’s 8-Day Itinerary A Day Four - Snorkelling with Turtles.

Espinosa Point & Vincente Roca Point

AM:  No foreign species have ever invaded Fernandina Island, and therefore it is one of the world's most pristine island ecosystems. The volcano “La Cumbre” dominates the land space with lava fields reaching the ocean. The island's highlight features the flightless cormorant nesting site. This area provides a great opportunity to see the Galapagos hawk.

PM:  Located on the northwestern coast of the island and comprised of two separate coves, this site is a large bay with spectacular sea life. Seahorses, sea turtles and fascinating sunfish may be spotted here. This bay is great for diving and snorkeling.

Grand Majestic’s 8-Day Itinerary A Day Five - Endemic Frigate Birds.

Espumilla & Sullivan Bay

AM:  In the morning, we will visit Buccaneer Cove. Buccaneer Cove is a testament to the fact that Santiago Island was once a refuge for British buccaneers. These pirates would anchor in the protected bay to make repairs and stock up on tortoise meat among other things. The steep cliffs, where hundreds of seabirds perch in front of the dark red sand beach, are a magnificent sight.

PM:  A coral beach landing leads you towards a lava field as far as the eye can see. Hunt and peck over the two distinguished types of lava, pahoehoe and 'a'a, for signs of plant life that have managed to emerge over the past 100 years since the most recent volcanic explosion. A truly amazing volcanic experience…up close and personal!

Grand Majestic’s 8-Day Itinerary A Day Six - Blue-Footed Booby Birds.

Bachas Beach & Fausto Llerena Breeding Center

AM:  Located on the north shore of Santa Cruz, Las Bachas is a swimming beach. One of the few remnants of the U.S. World War II presence in the Galapagos, a floating pier, can be seen here. You may see flamingos, Sally Lightfoot crabs, hermit crabs, black-necked stilts, and whimbrels. Sea turtles also nest off the beach.

PM:  In the afternoon we will visit The Charles Darwin Research Station which is home to turtles ranging from 3-inches to 4-feet long! Subspecies of turtles interact with one another and many of the older turtles are accustomed to humans stretching out their heads for a photo opportunity. The babies are kept until they are about four years old and strong enough to survive on their own.

Grand Majestic’s 8-Day Itinerary A Day Seven - Endemic Sally-Lightfoot Crab.

AM : On our last morning we will visit Kicker Rock. This striking rock formation is located a couple of hours off the western shore of San Cristobal. Jutting out of the water, the rocks stand vertically at hundreds of feet above the ocean divided by a small channel. Although there are no landing areas, kayaking and scuba diving allow visitors to spot a variety of marine life.

Grand Majestic’s 8-Day Itinerary A Day Eight - Disembarkation.

I was very impressed with the organization of our trip.  Everything Southern Explorations was responsible for went smoothly and everything was on schedule.  The Manatee on the Amazon had some initial trouble but it could not have been known or anticipated by SE.  Once again I would like to compliment Jorge on his work.  He made our comings and goings to and from Quito very easy.  If I go to South America again my first call will be to Southern Explorations. Thank you. - Peter Tuck, CA (Corals & Manatee)

Newly built in 2018, the Galapagos Grand Majestic is one of the fastest yachts offering luxury cruises in the Galapagos archipelago. With a top speed of 25 knots, you spend considerably less time sailing between visitor spots, which means you to spend more time on the islands themselves, viewing the legendary wildlife and snorkeling in the island’s biodiverse waters.   To discover this living laboratory for yourself, Grand Majestic cruises consist of four, five, and eight-night itineraries year-round, led by a certified bilingual naturalist guide. On your own once-in-a-lifetime cruise, you’ll get up close with the amazing nature of the Galapagos Islands. Whether snorkeling with curious sea-lions, hiking to breathtaking viewpoints or visits to the breeding center to see Giant Tortoises, you’ll experience these islands up close and personally.   One of the cruise yacht’s hand-picked naturalist guides will be in charge of leading your daily land expeditions, pointing out the dazzling array of birds, reptiles, fish and mammals that you won’t find anywhere else, and explaining every single fact about the island’s exotic creatures and geological features you encounter.   You will also find that the Grand Majestic’s captain and eight crew have racked up many years of experience in the Galapagos, while the onboard chef will serve you up sumptuous Ecuadorian cuisine in addition to more familiar yet still mouthwatering international dishes.   As a luxury yacht, the ship offers great comfort in its expansive master suite and seven deluxe staterooms – all fitted with panoramic windows, cooling AC, and private en-suite bathrooms. Meanwhile, the Grand Majestic’s modern and stylish living areas include a large sun deck with a Jacuzzi and al fresco dining. The main deck’s open plan is where you’ll find the indoor dining room and bar area with panoramic windows.   For your bucket list cruise through the legendary Galapagos Islands, avail yourself of the sleek and elegant Galapagos Grand Majestic yacht , guided by your expert bilingual naturalist guide while you enjoy the high-quality personal services of its professional chef and crew.
