BROKER'S COMMENTS

Among the designs of Fairlie built yachts by William Fife III himself, were a handful by some competing designers such as GL Watson, Alfred Mylne and OM Watts - the latter responsible for PEREGRINE. The virtues of his design – and the build are more than well expressed in the Yachting Monthly magazine review of 1937 from which we quote below. Suffice to say now that she has retained her original qualities in spades some 80 years on as a sea-kindly cruising yacht for the benefit and pleasure of any future owner.

Historical notes

PEREGRINE was bought by her current owner in 1998 - aware the previous owner had Nigel Irens examine her rig to reduce weather helm in strong winds. In view of this the boom was shortened by 18 inches and the bowsprit extended by the same length. She was then taken to the Caribbean for a season. Prior to that she had been owned by a Swiss national and domiciled in Greece for 4 years. The current owner has cruised extensively in English Channel waters. In 2012 he sailed her to Gran Canaria - and then across to St Lucia in the 2012 ARC. The winter 2012- 13 was spent cruising in the Caribbean. Lloyd's register identifies some previous owners as 1936 to 1938 H.F.B. Sharp 1939 to 1946 Captain P.N. Melitus 1947 to 1979 E.G. Hocquard 1980 G. Jelly Copy exists of an article reviewing PEREGRINE in an issue of “Yachting World” from 1937, some of which bears reproducing here: “When an experienced owner, who knows just what he wants can work in harmony with his naval architects and then take the resulting design to a firm of first class builders then the finished yacht is generally worth a close inspection – and PEREGRINE is by no means an exception.............. He stipulated she should be fit to face any weather which might be encountered during her wanderings, possess an easy motion in a seaway and capable of being handled by a crew of two. It was also specified that the construction and finish of the new yacht should be as near perfect as possible. That the designers rose to the challenge has been very amply demonstrated in PEREGRINE’s performances, whilst in building at the Fairlie yard of William Fife & Son, they made sure she was “yacht built” in the truest sense”. The article goes on to relate not only some experiences destined to mark her out as a worthy voyager in all conditions but give a detailed resume of the materials employed in her construction and quality of her build.

The Peregrine class was a type of courier ship appropriated by the Maquis as interceptors during the early 2370s . In some cases, the Maquis modified these vessels to include improved engine capability and light armaments. These vessels were commonly used during their insurrection against the Cardassian Union . Background information [ ].

The designation " Peregrine -class" was only mentioned in "Heart of Stone", where the design was not seen.

Apocrypha [ ]

The novel Quarantine equates the vessel to the Maquis fighter or the Maquis raider .

Star Trek Online identifies this as the class designation of the Federation attack fighter . The fact that the ship was referred to as a former courier ship modified by the Maquis, would support the association.

Tarsunts had long pelts of fur sprouting around their heads, some with brown coloration and elder members of the species exhibiting wispy white hair hanging long from the chin and jowls like a beard. They had large faces with broad brows, widely-spaced black eyes, a pair of large, flared nostrils, and hanging jowls over the mouth and chin, all framed by fur. Skin colors ranged from gray-blues to yellows and purples. Tarsunt Vober Dand stood at 1.73 meters, and wore five-fingered gloves over his paws.

Signs of age were respected in Tarsunt culture. Members of the species could speak Galactic Basic Standard.

Tarsunts were native to the planet Tarsunt, of the Tarsunt system in the Mid Rim Territories. Some members of the species, such as Vober Dand, hailed from Suntilla, and the Suntilla system was represented by Senator Colandrus in the Galactic Senate.

Blik ran a gladiatorial arena where droids fought each other.

Brill was a Tarsunt who served in the Alliance to Restore the Republic as an engineer, and participated in the Battle of Endor. She dyed her long pelt a shocking pink color.

Lanever Villecham represented his homeworld of Tarsunt in the New Republic Senate, and was elected as chancellor of the New Republic in 33 ABY.

Vober Dand, a brown-pelted Tarsunt from Suntilla, held the rank of chief of the Resistance's Ground Logistics Division on D'Qar, and used his mathematical mind to calculate flight schedules, maintenance requirements, and hangar operations. Although Vober's father, Ibdun Dand, initially forbade him from joining the Resistance, the elder Tarsunt later joined his son in the Resistance ground crew, and they served together on Ajan Kloss around the time of the Battle of Exegol.

The Nubian Peregrine -class was a class of luxury yacht manufactured by Nubian Design Collective originally for wealthy individuals and organizations that were able to afford the starships.

Characteristics [ ]

The starship, like the H-type Nubian yacht , was shaped similarly to a rocket and were unarmed. The yacht had a total crew count of 5, including a pilot, co-pilot, navigator, technician for the sensors and shields, and an astromech. It was able to be piloted by a single individual as well. The ship had two levels, both were connected by a turbolift. The bottom level held the luxury cabin and the top level held the ship's cockpit, maintenance area and storage room. The entry ramp for boarding was located on the port side of the vessel.

The starship was measured 70 meters in length, being 22.1 meters longer than the H-type yacht. Given 3 Sossen-5 ion drives , it had a max speed of 9,000 kilometers per hour and was faster than the H-type. It was also equipped with a 0.8 Class hyperdrive powered by a Nubian 180 core and an S-6 generator , being able to travel up to 35,000 light-years . Its hull was reinforced with chromium plating and given a strong deflector shield . Despite not being armed with weapons, the Peregrine -class was given two countermeasure systems, a chaff launcher and flares .

History [ ]

Originally designed to succeed the H-type Nubian yacht as the K-type Nubian yacht, the Peregrine -class was instead created to be within its own class and was marketed as the ultimate choice for a luxury yacht. Despite the marketing, the starship was not able to sell like it was expected to and only sold 98 out of all the 3,000 vessels that were built, and due to this failed expectation, Nubian Design Collective decided to halt the production on the Peregrine -class and would attempt to sell the remaining 2,902. However, it wasn't until the time of the Galactic Empire and the increase in criminal activity in the Outer Rim that the ship became popular, though this popularity did not warrant the production of more Peregrine -class starships.

During the Galactic Civil War , a scoundrel only known as The Drifter had come into possession of one of these prized starships named the Salvation , who replaced its chromium plating with another material known as Armosis.

Behind the scenes [ ]

The ship is named after the Peregrine falcon , a member of the Falconidae . Its appearance is based on the "Black Peregrine", a jumpship from the video game Destiny 2 .

[member="Selka Ventus"] This looks to be mostly in order. However after conferring with the other starship judges, we came to the consensus that the cap drain is not acceptable, due to the tech's short, vague description. We did agree that it could be used as a basis for a future tech sub to achieve a similar effect, but that there's just too much not known about it for it to be used on ships. So on those grounds, the cap drain will have to go.
