‘Dofesaba’ is an  good example of the Southerly 42 RST blue water cruising yacht. She has been well maintained and upgraded by the present owner. She is now available with a very complete cruising specification and is in good order throughout.

The Southerly 42 RST was built to a very high standard and has earned a great reputation for its luxury fit-out and its impressive build quality. She can sleep up to nine people in comfort. The rear owner's cabin is enormous with a central bed, en-suite large heads and plenty of storage. The raised saloon is extremely light and airy with large windows which give panoramic views. The interior joinery is American maple which gives a high-quality modern feel. Southerly’s unique lift keel design gives a draft of just .84m when up, which allows the yacht to explore the shallowest of harbours, estuaries, rivers and canals. In fact, Dofesaba has been through the Canal du Midi to the Mediterranean. She is also designed to safely dry out. At the touch of a button, the keel can be lowered giving a very deep draft of 2.72m which makes for fast and serious blue water cruising. She is easily sailed short-handed having in-mast reefing, furling genoa, auto helm and of course a bow thruster. She has a sociable cockpit layout with a large folding table and is perfect for entertaining. Her full cockpit tent provides a great living space when the weather does not co-operate. The Southerly 42 RST is one of the most comfortable, safe and easily sailed blue water cruising yachts available. Accommodation

This Southerly 42 RST can sleep 9. The forward cabin has a v berth with a fill in which makes it into a double . The headroom is 6ft 4 and the berth is  7 feet long ,it has a hanging berth which is popular with children. There are two large cupboards and a large hatch for light and ventilation. Forward on the port side is a double berth cabin with bunk beds again there is a large hanging wardrobe cupboard. The washing machine is located here. Next to the forward two cabins is a large heads, with its own holding tank, hot water shower, and vanity unit. The surfaces are Corian, It has a hatch for ventilation and a Seasmart sanitiser unit fitted to the sea toilet. The linear galley is very well-equipped with twin sinks , three-burner oven and grill. The refrigerator is large and front opening. There is plenty of workspace and storage. The large raised saloon is very light and airy  with panoramic views from the large tinted windows. The dining table has a hydraulic system which makes it very easy to lower and makes a large double berth. The chart table is raised giving very good visibility, sited amidships and is forward facing. There is a large plotter, VHF and and full instrumentation. The main aft cabin is spacious with a central line double berth it’s own on suite large heads with shower, sink , Seasmart sanitiser and vanity unit. There is plenty of storage and hanging space.

Jaykay Marine Sales are proud to offer for sale this beautiful example of a Southerly 42RST, commissioned in 2008. This yacht was relaunched for the season in April 2019 and is now on her berth here in Northney Marina. Please call us or email us to arrange your viewing.

The engine is a Yanmar 4JH4-E, 56 hp which was most recently serviced in December 2016. At the same time it was winterised, and the batteries were disconnected for storage over-winter. In April 2017 the engine was recommissioned, and the batteries were re-connected. The boat has been little-used in 2017 and 2018 so the vendor has decided now is the right time to sell it.

The cabin design is: 1 double berth, 1 double V-berth with an additional berth at high-level, 2 bunk berths and the saloon provides an additional double berth.

This gorgeous yacht has been very well loved and owned from new by her current owner and comes with a very high specification. The vendor has not hesitated in getting required maintenance and service work completed – the most recent works are highlighted below.

Recent extensive maintenance included:

- Complete overhaul of swing keel, involving removal and refitting with new seals, new Kevlar strap, total overhaul of electro-hydraulic lifting system (completed 2019)

- New Furlex jib furler (2018)

- Complete overhaul of rigging, with new shrouds and stays, partial replacement of safety lines, some new halyards and traveller lines (completed 2019)

- New lazyjack and stac-pak system

Nav area Raised chart table to starboard with excellent outside view, instrument pod mounted ahead of chart table with ample space for instrument fitment if required, Raymarine Smart Autopilot controller holder and power supply. Adjacent Raymarine VHF/DSC Radio and heating controller. 12v Socket.

Main electrical switch panel below chart table with clear Plexiglas cover. Navigator’s seat with cream leather upholstered seat, storage locker under. Hanging locker/Wet locker aft of nav seat, with TV mounted over on rear bulkhead.

Raised Saloon seating to port with cream leather upholstery, room for up to eight people with excellent outside views.

The Saloon seating can convert to a double berth using the lowered saloon table. There is considerable storage space under and behind the saloon seating area. Three overhead opening hatches.

HULL CONSTRUCTION

Heavy-duty GRP moulding, hand laid up to Southerly’s Nordseal laminating system incorporating multi-axial and unidirectional reinforcements. The keel box is an integral part of the hull lay-up and sandwich construction stiffening runs the entire length of the hull topsides. All main bulkheads are bonded into the hull at main lay-up stage along with a stiffening grillage of transverse frames and longitudinal stringers. The engine bearers are also an integral part of the hull structure. Solid GRP hull below the waterline.

DECK CONSTRUCTION

Hand laid up GRP. Sandwich construction. Heavily stressed areas are additionally reinforced with uni-directional glass reinforcement. The deck is bonded to the hull through the entire length and to all main bulkheads resulting in a strong and integrated unit.

VARIABLE DRAFT KEEL

The fixed ballast is an iron casting which acts as a grounding plate and as transverse and longitudinal stiffening member for the keel assembly. The fixed ballast casting is fitted into a recess in the hull and secured with multiple stainless steel bolts. The aerofoil shaped keel is cast iron and incorporates a stainless steel pivot at the leading edge which connects to the grounding plate. The keel is raised and lowered by a hydraulic ram powered by an electrically driven pump, also equipped with a hand operated back-up. All hydraulics are easily accessible for maintenance. Keel control and position indicator panel are located at port helm station. A removable stainless steel pin is provided to enable the keel to be locked in the ‘up' position

The Southerly 42RST combines a fast, modern hull for good performance, with the stability and comfort for blue water cruising. The modern plumb stem increases waterline length and a broad transom maintains volume aft, for performance and interior space. Deck styling and a sociable cockpit layout with twin helm positions, has created one of the most comfortable and easy to sail blue water cruising yachts available.

The Southerly 42RST also boasts an impressive sail plan, for powerful windward performance. The tall fractional rig with swept back double spreaders, combines with a self-tacking jib for easy sailing and a large mainsail with single line reefing, For off wind sailing a gennaker can be flown from a removable bowsprit.

The Southerly 42RST features the highly developed Swing Keel which gives the freedom and versatility to sail in almost any waters. With the keel lowered, the deep draft makes for fast, serious blue water cruising. At the ‘touch of a button’ the keel can be raised to give a shallow draft - perfect for exploring coastlines and inland waterways.

The cockpit is a particular feature, with comfortable seating. The teak cockpit table offers dinette facilities, whilst also providing leg bracing and a convenient hand rail, when the yacht is heeled. The mainsheet track is located on the coachroof with lines fed back to both helmsman’s stations, allowing the yacht to be easily managed.

Once you step inside, you enter a light and airy interior. The large raised saloon seating area provides a focal point for owners and guests, permitting comfortable dining whilst at anchor or moored, and taking full advantage of the all-round views. Two forward cabins are combined with a large double aft cabin, enjoying a centreline berth and en-suite facilities.
