The impeccable interiors aboard AKIKO are the vision of Gregory Marshall, with recent refit work undertaken at McMullen and Wing. The décor is a sublime fusion of timbers, textures and ochre hues, along with large windows to capture the passing landscapes at every angle and LED lighting to set of her remarkable collection of art and sculptures collected from around the world.

AKIKO is a true floating art gallery, with collections from Melanesia, Australian Aboriginal artworks, and rich, vibrant fabrics and furnishings reflecting her New Zealand origins and South Pacific travels.

For her guests’ enjoyment, AKIKO is equipped with Apple TV, Chromecast, Crestron system and iTunes movie bank (with hard drive capacity for approximately 500 movies) and Foxtel (Satellite Television). AKIKO is fitted with stabilizers for comfort in all conditions, is air-conditioned throughout and provides 4G very fast internet.

Newly Refitted Alloy Superyacht AKIKO Opens for Charter in Australia

By Rebecca Bradbury   3 April 2017

The 34m/112ft expedition yacht AKKIO – previously named VvS1 – is now available for charter in Australia following an extensive refit at New Zealand yard McMullen and Wing.

Originally built by Alloy Yachts in 2007, AKIKO was re-launched after a five-month transformation in December last year. Now based in Perth, she is offering charters along the west coast of Australia , from the idyllic Coral Coast to the spectacular waters of Kimberley , until October 2017.

A go-anywhere adventurer, she is perfectly suited for exploring the wonderfully wild and remote cruising grounds. Her versatility ensures she is just as at home entering small secluded bays as she is anchoring behind coral atolls or game fishing over submarine reefs.

Indeed, some of the world’s most diverse marine habitats are found along the Coral Coast. Discover amazing dive sites such as World Heritage-listed Shark Bay and Ningaloo Reef – the largest fringing reef on earth – just metres from pristine beaches, dazzling gorges and the lunar-like Pinnacles.

Kimberley, meanwhile, is one of the planet’s last wilderness frontiers. Located in the northwest corner of Australia, the region offers yacht-goers red, rugged landscapes, majestic canyons, magnificent waterfalls, iconic beaches, prolific wildlife, Aboriginal rock art and 2,600 islands to discover.

idyllic beach of Cape Leveque with red rocks and blue waters in Kimberley, Australia

Not only does charter yacht AKIKO boast impressive ocean-going capabilities, she is also laced in luxuries for guests to enjoy. In 2008, she was awarded four prestigious World Superyacht Awards and her latest series of work ensures she continues to wow all those who step aboard.

On deck, guests can escape to her sundeck for lounging opportunities, and the chance to enjoy alfresco dining and snacks from the Teppanyaki grill. There is also a comfortable seating area on the main deck aft, leading to a swim platform especially suited for game fishing.

As well as extensive fishing and spearfishing equipment on board, there is also scuba diving and snorkelling gear, and water toys such as WaveRunners, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and surfboards. These ensure hours of entertainment for all ages aboard the expedition yacht .

During a private yacht charter , up to 10 guests can be accommodated on board in four staterooms, including a master suite, a VIP suite, a double cabin and a twin cabin with a Pullman berth.

Not much is known yet about her refit, but recent photos reveal she is missing her red boot strap after a full re-paint. She now features a completely dark grey hull and sparkling silver superstructure.

AKIKO is just as at home entering small secluded bays as she is anchoring behind coral atolls or game fishing over submarine reefs.

AKIKO is a 34m custom expedition explorer yacht and is presented in pristine condition thanks to her extensive 2023 refit.

Delivered in 2007, AKIKO has been built to the highest standards by Alloy Yachts and has received five major honours at the 2008 World Superyacht Awards.

Exterior Design & Engineering

AKIKO yacht’s distinct exterior was designed by renowned Naval Architect Gregory Marshall and was constructed of all aluminium by Alloy Yachts. Her sleek exterior was is purposely built for exploration, making AKIKO a versatile vessel that boasts an impressive range of expedition capabilities and thrives when entering small bays and navigating coastal waterways.

This full displacement Motor Yacht is powered by two 425 Hp Caterpillar 3406E diesel engines, reaching a top speed of 13 knots and cruising speed of 10 knots with a range of 3,500nm at 8 knots. She is fitted with zero speed stabilisers.

During her 2023 refit, AKIKO had a full repaint and her aft deck was redesigned to raise the separate back deck to the same level, making a better use of the guest space.

AKIKO’s layout cleverly utilises all available space throughout her interior and exterior areas, creating a variety of places to unwind. The interior on the main deck is equipped with a cosy lounge and soft furniture. The dining area is centred around a corner bench dining table, providing a relaxed and casual dining experience onboard.

Her living spaces are expansive across the bridge, main, and lower decks. The al fresco dining area on the aft is made for entertainment and is covered by an awning, completed with sofas and armchairs that allow you to soak up the surrounding views. Towards the bow, there are further sunbathing areas which benefit from full visibility of your location, and on the lower deck there is a swim platform.

Interior Design

The entire interior was reworked in 2023, focusing on improving her layout to achieve a modernised look and feel. Throughout AKIKO, there is a calming balance which is maintained through a soft colour palette that utilises white, cream, beige, and grey with touches of light wooden finishes complete with abstract artwork and mid-century-esque furniture.

The luxury explorer yacht accommodates up to 12 guests across five cabins. This comprises of a Master cabin, a VIP cabin, one double cabin and two twin/triple cabins.
