Santorini Catamaran Cruise Overview
Santorini is a breathtaking volcanic island in the Aegean Sea, and one of the best ways to explore its beauty is through a catamaran cruise.
Embarking on a Santorini catamaran cruise allows you to experience the stunning coastline, crystal clear waters, and unique geological features up close.
A catamaran cruise in Santorini offers various options to satisfy your interests and preferences. You can choose from group tours, private cruises, and even luxurious catamarans with high-quality onboard services.
No matter which option you choose, your catamaran cruise will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
During your cruise, you can visit iconic attractions like the volcanic hot springs, the famous Red Beach, and White Beach and see Black Mountain.
Snorkeling equipment is often provided, allowing you to explore the abundant marine life underneath the surface. Gliding along the water, you’ll be treated to refreshing local wines and delicious Greek meals prepared on your catamaran.
Santorini catamaran cruises typically last 5 to 8 hours, allowing ample time to soak in the sun, marvel at the island’s beauty, and enjoy the company of fellow travelers.
The cruises are available during daytime and sunset, offering a different perspective of the island’s breathtaking scenery.
So, when planning your next visit to Santorini, remember to include a catamaran cruise in your itinerary. It’s a unique and unforgettable way to explore the island’s beauty and create lasting memories.
Why Book a Santorini Catamaran Cruise
If you’re planning a trip to Santorini, a catamaran cruise is one of the most unforgettable experiences you can have while exploring the island. There are many reasons why booking a Santorini catamaran cruise is an excellent idea.
First, the magic of the Aegean Sea is enchanting. A catamaran cruise allows you to explore the crystal-clear, turquoise waters that make this region so unique.
With the salty sea breeze and the gentle lapping of the waves, you’ll find yourself immersed in Santorini’s natural beauty.
Another reason to book a catamaran cruise is the unique caldera views only a boat can provide. As you sail along the stunning coastlines, you’ll get up close and personal with the beautiful scenery of the volcanic cliffs that form the caldera.
It is one of the best ways to see the extraordinary landscape that can’t be appreciated fully from land. You will marvel at the contrasting colors of the rocks, the white-washed villages perched on the cliffs’ edges, and the shimmering sea below.
When choosing a tour, Santorini offers a variety of catamaran cruise options, ranging from semi-private cruises to full-day excursions to sunset cruises.
Many tours include meals, drinks, and transfers, making it easy and convenient for you to enjoy your adventure without any hassle.
Many of these Santorini catamaran tours offer free cancellation if something comes up and you need to cancel. Some of the private catamaran cruises even offer customizable itineraries so that you can tailor your experience to your interests and preferences.
By booking a Santorini catamaran cruise, you’ll experience an enchanting journey through the magic of the Aegean Sea, marvel at the unique caldera views, and enjoy a well-organized and highly-rated tour. So, don’t wait any longer – make sure a catamaran cruise is on your Santorini itinerary. It will be an amazing experience!
The Perfect Catamaran Tour For Your Schedule
When planning your Santorini trip, you’ll want to make the most of your time on the island. A catamaran cruise is a popular and memorable way to experience the beauty of Santorini . Here are some factors to consider when choosing the perfect boat tour for your schedule.
Boat tours in Santorini vary in length, usually ranging from half-day to full-day excursions, or 5 to 8 hours. Consider your schedule and decide whether you want to spend an entire day at sea or just a few hours.
Half-day tours allow you to explore more of the island by land while still enjoying a memorable cruise experience. I personally prefer the 5-hour tours to the longer 7–8-hour tours.
I feel this time frame gives more flexibility for additional activities on the island before or after your scheduled tour time.
Different catamaran cruises offer diverse sightseeing opportunities. Some tours focus on the volcanic islands and the hot springs. In contrast, others take you on a scenic journey around the caldera and cliffside villages.
Select a tour that includes the sights you’re most excited about seeing so you can have a unique sailing experience. As long as the tour allows you to see your ‘must-haves’, you really can’t go wrong.
Catamaran cruises often include various onboard amenities, such as meals, drinks, and transportation. If you’re looking for an all-inclusive experience, choose a tour that offers a full Greek meal and an open bar.
It is quite enjoyable to snack on the catamaran cruise, with delicious Santorini wine in hand, as you’re gliding across the Aegean. Take it from me, an all-inclusive experience is definitely worth it! For, who doesn’t love drinks and snacks on vacation?
Remember that luxury catamaran cruise options may require a higher budget but usually include more services and a more comfortable experience.
By taking into account these factors, you’ll be able to select the perfect catamaran cruise to fit your Santorini itinerary and have an unforgettable experience on the beautiful waters surrounding the island.
So, get ready to create lasting memories and enjoy the stunning scenery of Santorini from the comfort of your chosen boat tour!
Essential Tips For a Smooth Sailing Experience in Santorini
Booking in advance.
With catamaran cruises in Santorini being one of the most popular tours on the island, it’s essential to book your adventure early.
This ensures you secure your preferred date and time for the trip. Don’t wait until the last minute, as spots fill quickly, especially during peak season.
What to Wear and Bring
Arriving well-prepared for your catamaran cruise will enhance your experience. Think comfortably and practically when preparing for your catamaran cruise. Wear lightweight, casual clothing such as shorts, t-shirts, and swimwear.
Bring sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun. Remember your swimsuit to enjoy the refreshing waters at the various beach stops and a towel and change of clothes.
We personally prefer the long-sleeved linen shirts/coverups and comfortable shorts while on the catamaran. The linen dries fast, protects from the sun and keeps you cool at the same time!
Remember that the boat will be exposed to the sun and the elements, so it’s better to be over-prepared than under-prepared. A small daypack to keep your belongings safe and dry is also a good idea.
Also, consider packing a light jacket, as the evening sea breeze can be chilly. The wind on Santorini is strong, but the wind on the water is even stronger, especially in the evening.
If you’re prone to motion sickness (or not sure), it’s a good idea to bring motion sickness medication with you if needed. While on the catamaran, the motion doesn’t really bother me, but I pack some meds with me just in case.
Hot Springs
The hot springs are usually about 86ºF to 95ºF (30°C to 35°C). This is slightly warmer than the average summer sea temperature of 77°F or 25°C, but not exactly ‘hot.’ Before venturing into the hot springs myself, I thought it would feel like a hot tub, but that is not the case.
The sulfur content of the hot springs can sometimes make the air a bit smelly (read: rotten eggs). It’s also recommended to wear dark-colored swimwear, as lighter colors might be stained by the orange-tinted waters.
Safety First: Sea Conditions and Weather
Keep an eye on weather forecasts leading up to your cruise.
While Santorini is known for its sunshine and warm temperatures, sudden changes in weather conditions may affect your trip.
Be flexible with your plans if necessary, as the safety of all passengers and crew is paramount. The cruise operators will always prioritize everyone’s well-being and adjust the itinerary or reschedule if required.
Snorkel and Swim
Make the most of your time on the water by enjoying the fantastic snorkeling opportunities many Santorini catamaran cruises offer.
The crystal-clear waters are perfect for observing marine life and taking in the beauty that lies beneath the surface.
It is truly amazing how far you can see through the crystal-clear waters! I recommend bringing a waterproof camera. You’ll be mesmerized by the beauty that is under the sea.
Also review the tour’s itinerary before booking to ensure that snorkel equipment is provided and that there will be stops for swimming and snorkeling.
Crystal clear water!
Savor the Views
Santorini is renowned for its breathtaking views, and a catamaran cruise provides the perfect platform to take it all in.
While sailing around the island’s volcanic attractions and picturesque coastlines, snap some photos to memorialize your trip.
Do your best to live in the moment and fully appreciate the sights, sounds, and tastes during your time on the catamaran.
By prioritizing friendly crew members, being prepared, and participating in the activities you enjoy most, your Santorini catamaran cruise will be a memorable experience.
Have an amazing time, and let the beauty of Santorini leave a lasting impression on you.
Who Should Take a Santorini Catamaran Cruise?
A catamaran cruise in Santorini is a fantastic experience for many travelers. This is the perfect activity if you’re looking for a friendly and enjoyable outing!
A catamaran cruise is a romantic and memorable way for couples to spend quality time together. Sailing along the beautiful coastline of Santorini, you can witness the stunning views of the volcanic island and its spectacular sunsets.
The intimate atmosphere with a small group of passengers provides a relaxed setting and the opportunity for some lovely, memorable moments with your significant other.
Families with Children
A catamaran cruise is an exciting and educational experience for children, as they get to see the volcanic island up close and explore the amazing caldera.
It’s an excellent way for them to learn about the natural wonders of Santorini while having a fun and adventurous time.
Moreover, most cruises are suitable for children and offer safety measures to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable trip for the whole family.
Solo Travelers
If you’re exploring Santorini alone, a catamaran cruise is an excellent way to meet new people and make friends.
With a friendly crew and fellow passengers, you’ll find a welcoming environment to enjoy an amazing day, viewing the unique volcanic landscapes and breathtaking sunsets while mingling with like-minded individuals.
A Santorini catamaran cruise is a fantastic experience for couples, families, and solo travelers alike.
No matter your travel style or companions, these tours provide an unforgettable way to explore the island’s stunning natural beauty and create lasting memories.
Packing Essentials For Your Adventure
When preparing for your Santorini catamaran cruise, there are some essentials you’ll need to ensure a fun and stress-free experience.
Following this friendly guide, you’ll be well-prepared for swimming, snorkeling, and diving in the beautiful Aegean Sea.
First, remember to pack sun protection. The sun can be intense during your cruise, so bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen with a high SPF.
Reapply sunscreen throughout the day, especially after swimming or toweling off. Packing a lightweight cover-up to protect your skin when you’re not in the water is also a good idea.
Next, consider your swimwear and gear. Be sure to bring a comfortable swimsuit, as you’ll likely spend a lot of time in the water. Your catamaran cruise may provide snorkeling equipment, but confirming this beforehand is a good idea.
If you plan on diving, consider bringing your own gear or finding out if the tour operator has rentals available.
Regarding footwear, barefoot, flip-flops, or flat shoes are recommended while onboard the catamaran. Opt for shoes that are easy to remove and won’t damage the boat’s deck.
Also, pack a separate pair of water shoes for any rocky shorelines you might explore during your cruise. The Santorini beaches are rocky. Sometimes the rocks around the coast are sharp and occasionally uber slippery.
To keep your belongings safe, consider bringing a waterproof bag or pouch for items like your phone, wallet, and keys.
Pack a small dry bag or Ziplock bag to store your wet swimsuit and towel after you’re done swimming. I really like these Bumkin bags to keep our damp clothing from soaking other items in our backpack.
Remember to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day. While beverages may be provided as part of your catamaran cruise, having some extra water on hand is always a good idea. Lastly, pack some seasickness medication if you’re prone to motion sickness, as the waters around Santorini can sometimes be choppy.
By following these packing tips, you’ll be well-equipped for an incredible day of adventure on your Santorini catamaran cruise, enjoying the crystal-clear waters and breathtaking landscapes the island offers.
By staying in convenient locations such as these, you’ll maximize your time exploring Santorini’s breathtaking landscapes and azure waters on a memorable catamaran cruise.
How much does a catamaran cruise in Santorini typically cost?
A catamaran cruise in Santorini typically costs around €110 to €150 per person for a 5-hour tour. Prices may vary depending on the time of day, the size of the group, and the inclusions like meals and drinks. Keep in mind that private catamaran tours can be more expensive.
Are meals and drinks included in the catamaran cruises?
Many catamaran cruises in Santorini include a delicious meal and drinks as part of their package. You can expect to enjoy fresh, local seafood, Santorini specialties, and a refreshing selection of beverages, including Santorini wine while cruising along the picturesque coastline.
Do catamaran cruises in Santorini offer sunset views?
Many catamaran cruises in Santorini offer a sunset option, allowing you to enjoy the mesmerizing sunset views over the Aegean Sea. These cruises often depart late afternoon and return after sunset, providing a unique and unforgettable experience.

A catamaran cruise in Santorini is one of the best and most popular tours you can find on the island and it is a must to book one when you’re visiting!
I’ve always wanted to take this Santorini excursion and enjoy the scenery of the volcanic island from the sea. I also wanted to make sure I was able to do it at sunset!
While I had done a catamaran tour previously on other islands, including Mauritius , I hadn’t seen the sunset from a boat before, so it was definitely one of my main reasons for booking this specific tour!
In addition, Santorini is known for its dramatic rocky beaches and beautiful limestone white buildings dotted along the sea and one of the best things to do in Santorini is to see them via boat!
This guide will tell you how to take the best Santorini catamaran cruise and will break down my experience with this activity, which I will certainly never forget!
In this post...
How to Book a Santorini Catamaran Cruise
My experience on the santorini catamaran tour, best time to book a santorini catamaran trip, who should take this tour, what to pack for santorini catamaran tour, more santorini travel guides, pin this sunset cruise in santorini guide.
Duration: 5 hours Pick-up: Your accommodation Meeting Point: Vlycháda Marina (they will take you there) Language: English, Greek ⛵ CLICK HERE TO BOOK !
I definitely recommend planning your trip to Santorini in advance because it’s an extremely popular destination, especially during the summer months!
Visiting Santorini and not taking this amazing catamaran tour was not an option for me, so I made sure I secured my slot ahead of time with Manawa .
First of all, I made sure that I booked a premium catamaran tour, where the number of people was limited to approximately 20 depending on the seasonality.
BOOK HERE: Santorini Sunset Catamaran Cruise
Also, I booked the tour that started at midday so I could see the sunset. There are other options for tours that you can choose from.
The tour organizers make sure you will visit or observe the most popular sights in Santorini including the Red Beach, the White Beach, the Venetian Lighthouse, and the Indian Rocks up close.
You will have a great opportunity to swim and snorkel in the crystal clear Aegean Sea, including near the island of Nea Kameni while swimming in volcanic hot springs with sulfurous waters.
The boat passes by Imerovigli, Firostefani, Old Port, and Fira, and you can see the cliffside towns of Oia from afar.
During your trip, you will be served local wine, and for dinner, the staff will serve traditional and international dishes including BBQ.
The tour is organized in a way that you can enjoy it, relax, and catch the moment when the catamaran drifts into the sunset surrounded by amazing scenery.
I will provide more details below.
Pick-Up at the Hotel
All of the guests are picked up from their hotels in an organized fashion.
After getting picked up from my hotel by a minivan, they drove us and the other participants to Vlychada Marina, where the tour departed from.
Everything was easy and they were on time!
Arriving at Vlychada Marina
You will arrive at Vlychada Marina with the other tour participants. It is located in Vlycháda village, which is especially popular for its black beach, Vlychada Beach.
The tour organizers will wait for you at the port. After meeting the staff members, you will be escorted to the catamaran.
After getting on board and before taking off, the staff will do a fast and informative brief on what to do and what not to do on the catamaran, as well as how to get the most out of your experience.
Santorini Sunset Catamaran Tour Highlights
Red beach and white beach .
Then, the ship will set sail, so get comfortable on this wonderful catamaran and get ready to see beautiful scenery and landscapes.
The first stops will be at Red Beach (before continuing on to White Beach). These are some of the most famous beaches in Santorini .
Red Beach is probably one of the most beautiful and mysterious-looking beaches on Santorini because of its bright red color and dramatic shapes caused by volcanic eruptions.
The beach is located near the historical village of Akrotiri village, which is also located at the famous historical site of the Akrotiri Excavations.
The catamaran will stop right next to the beach where you can swim, enjoy served wine, and take photos on this amazing volcanic beach.
After Red Beach, you will approach a totally different beach- White Beach.
The water is exceptionally crystal clear on White Beach. Your catamaran will also pass by this beach and provide you with the opportunity to explore.
A fun fact about White Beach is it’s actually not that white!
You will think it is white because of the volcanic sand, which is actually a shade of gray.
The black pebbles in this small cove are near white surroundings, and that contrast visually makes the black pebbles look whiter.
Akrotiri Lighthouse
While you are sipping local delicious wine and enjoying the sea breeze, you will pass by the 19th-century Akrotiri Lighthouse situated on the top of the huge cliff that is visible from everywhere.
You will feel amazed as the catamaran passes around the big rocks, enabling you to see the lighthouse from different angles.
Island of Aspronisi
How cool is it to know that you will pass by an uninhabited area located in the Santorini caldera?
In the 2nd millennium BC after a huge Minoan eruption, the island of Aspronisi was formed. You will pass by it and have the opportunity to take many pictures of the island.
One of the most exciting spots that you will see during this tour is the Nea Kameni uninhabited volcanic island in the Santorini archipelago caldera. It was formed around 1570 after many volcanic eruptions.
There, you can see a gathering of many boats and catamarans because of the hot spring, which causes the water to be warmer.
This provides you with the opportunity to swim in a unique and warm environment.
I couldn’t resist, so I had to try it! With the help of the staff, who also gave me a float for swimming, I dove into the water and after several meters, I felt that the water was getting warmer.
Make sure to not miss out on this unique experience and enjoy the volcanic bath during your tour.
For your information, the staff also provides you with towels if you don’t have your own!
Enjoying Delicious Food on the Boat
After all of these “exhausting” activities, on the way back our catamaran stopped near White Beach and the staff prepped the buffet for us.
At the beginning of the tour, they will ask you what food preferences you have, such as if you are vegetarian or have specific food allergies.
Get comfortable, grab your wine, BBQ, and different sauces, and enjoy your supper while the catamaran drifts slowly near the beach.
It was incredible to eat delicious food while checking out the beautiful scenery.
Sunset on the Catamaran
Finally, it was the moment that I was waiting for from the get-go- the opportunity to see one of the most beautiful sunsets.
The boat stopped the engine and opened the sail as the wind took the catamaran forward.
The sunset exploded into colors of red and yellow across the horizon. As the sun set into the sea, I felt that I was becoming more connected with nature.
This was an unforgettable feeling, and that is why I recommend booking this tour and experiencing this amazing Santorini sunset.
Heading Back to Santorini
After you return to the port of Vlychada Marina, your guide will escort you to your driver, who will take you back to your hotel.
It was an exhausting, yet relaxing day at the same time (as contradictory as that may sound). I would love to do it all over again!
If you’re considering booking this trip, please do note that it is available all year round!
But, the weather may play a factor. It was pretty windy when I went in autumn. And at times, it was a bit chilly.
Visiting Santorini in winter ? Definitely bring a jacket if you take the tour!
I think this tour is perfect for nearly everyone!
However, if you suffer from seasickness, it may be a bit of a struggle although the water wasn’t too rough (but it was windy)!
It is not a tour for those with mobility issues, however.
Make sure to bring your sunglasses, a high SPF sunscreen, a jacket or a blazer (if you are taking this tour in autumn as I did), and a towel.
However, if you don’t have one, the staff will kindly provide you with one.
We hope we answered all of your questions before you book your Santorini catamaran cruise! Let us know in the comments if you have any further questions.

Absolutely! Greece is one of the safest countries to swim in. You will be glad to know that sharks in the Aegean Sea ( usually from species such as dogfish) are harmless, sightings are extremely rare while attacks are unheard of! In addition, the waves are usually small, especially inside the Caldera where most boat cruises make stops for swimming. So, based on the above, if you enjoy swimming, snorkeling, or even diving... you are in the right place!
