The Northern Belle - Flying Scotsman Steam Journey
![royal yacht britannia to waverley station Flying Scotsman Steam Special to The Royal Yacht Britannia](https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/5d9dea3aad4a3a80cbd04251/64231b4f06cc007659bb1466_Edinburgh-_-Royal-Yacht-Britannia-main.jpg)
A luxury train journey to the Royal Yacht Britannia to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Flying Scotsman
Join the Northern Belle in a celebratory luxury train journey to Edinburgh & Royal Yacht Britannia hauled by the Flying Scotsman to mark 100 years of service!
This highly anticipated journey hauled by a legend of the railway sets off with a sparkling Mimosa cocktail as you take to your comfortable armchair seat. As The Flying Scotsman takes you towards the Scottish capital from York station (from Darlington to York the journey is diesel hauled). You will be served a delightful three-course brunch by the liveried stewards, your surroundings take you back to the era of the Golden Age of Travel.
On arrival at Waverley Station, you will be met by a coach to transfer you to Ocean Terminal, Leith, where the Royal Yacht Britannia is berthed. Having been berthed at Leith ever since it was decommissioned in 1997, the Royal Family’s beloved yacht was a place where they enjoyed many happy holidays. Today the Royal Yacht is one of Scotland’s most popular visitor attractions. Start the tour at the Visitor Centre, learning about the yacht’s rich history. Then tour the five main decks with the help of an audio guide. Highlights include the luxurious State Apartments, royal sleeping quarters and personal photographs of the monarch and her family. Also, make sure to visit the Bridge and the gleaming Engine Room. After touring the magnificent ship if time permits you may have some free time to explore Edinburgh.
It's then time to rejoin the train (which will be hauled by a vintage diesel locomotive) where you will be welcomed back aboard with a Champagne drinks reception accompanied by canapés and Caviar blinis followed by a delicious six-course dinner and sommelier-selected wine.
THE FLYING SCOTSMAN Built in Doncaster back in 1923 the Flying Scotsman was at the time the most powerful locomotive used by the London and North Eastern Railway. It was also the first locomotive to run a non-stop journey from London to Edinburgh.
Included in this Northern Belle Flying Scotsman Luxury Train Journey

- Welcome sparkling Mimosa cocktail reception onboard
- Delicious three-course brunch on the outward journey
- Transfer to the Royal Yacht

Thank you for your question. The closest bus option would be Lothian Bus number 22, which departs from Princes Street to Ocean Terminal, where our Visitor Centre is located, regularly, for £1.70 each way (correct change needed). Alternatively, if you are planning to take an Edinburgh Bus Tour while visiting, you could take the hop-on, hop-off Majestic Bus Tour from Waverley Bridge, which also makes a stop at Britannia. We look forward to welcoming you on board soon!

Hi! You'll be delighted to visit the Royal Yacht. It's like a step back in Royal time.
As to which bus to be caught, I can't advise, as my husband and I, not being locals, caught an Uber.
This option was very reasonable. My suggestion is if you are arriving by train, is to ask for a bus connection when you are at the train station.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)
<< Previous page
Pages: 379-406
In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
Keywords: Tuva, Early Iron Age, early Scythian period, Aldy-Bel culture, barrow, burial in the coffin, mummy, full genome sequencing, aDNA
