The vessel's internal volume is equal to some 100-foot motoryachts, but even those larger competitors don't have its ultra-modern features. We are first on board for a sea trial.

Two years ago, Wally founder Luca Bassani and the Wally team, now part of the Ferretti Group conglomerate, introduced a new style called the wallywhy200 . It had some of the brand’s hallmarks like the open bow, but it seemed to wander off the reservation with its full wide-body design. The 89-footer (the 200 refers to 200 GT of interior volume) had the same space as a 125-footer, according to Wally. This quest for space led to the removal of side decks and a full-beam interior. At the bow, a forward owner’s cabin had an unprecedented 270-degree panoramic view of the horizon.
I had a chance to sea-trial Wally’s latest model, the wallywhy150, last summer, before its official launch earlier this week at the Yachting Festival du Cannes. I came away impressed.
The Wally team wanted more than just a 79-foot sistership that with ten less feet in length than the 200. It wanted to pioneer new ideas.
Bassani says the model name “why,” which stands for “Wally Hybrid Yacht,” has nothing to do with the propulsion of the boat. “It combines elements of a motoryacht and a faster semi-planing vessel,” he told me. “It offers the best of both worlds: the stability and the strength of an explorer, while keeping the comfort and elegance of a luxury yacht.” The 150’s hull architecture is consistent with the larger 200, but the appendages have been reduced to better align the 79-footer’s proportions.
Like the 200, the exterior of the wallywhy150 may initially raise eyebrows. It leaves normal way behind, with a continuous hull flow from stern to bow, no side decks and no portholes, as part of the Wally family feeling. But stepping aboard unravels the function behind these stylistic choices.
The wallywhy150 shares elements such as the bow stateroom for the owners, while the full-beam design maximizes interior space. Where it breaks new ground is at the rear part of the boat. The main salon is integrated with the aft cockpit, separated by a retractable glass door that creates a seamless interface between indoors and out.
The salon is also designed on two levels (including an impressive 9.2-foot-high aft section), with the use of large structural windows and a teak ceiling that is curved to resemble a wave. It delivers an unobstructed view of the sea from any angle. Just a few steps from the engines, the area remains remarkably quiet with the doors closed.
The flybridge is also a different design than the wallywhy220. The 150’s more open feel evokes a Mediterranean-style ambiance. The aft portion features a lounge adorned with freestanding sofas, a wet bar accompanied by a dining table, and, moving toward the bow, the helm station.
The helm’s distinctive square shapes, extensive use of carbon fiber across the dashboard and futuristic design are definitive reminders of being aboard a Wally.
These dual systems actually reflect the thought behind this new motoryacht. It’s slow and fuel-efficient, but can go fast when you need speed. The exterior is a bit ungainly, granted, but the interior is more svelte and contemporary than any yacht in its class. The main suite with a 270-degree sea view, the open stern, and the performance all reflect Wally’s design ethos. In short, it’s a shapeshifter, offering multiple boating lifestyles across the same hull.

First Details Revealed: wallywhy100
- By Yachting Staff
- January 4, 2023
Wally has revealed the first details about its 69-foot wallywhy100, which is joining the wallywhy200 and wallywhy150 in the builder’s lineup.
Exteriors on the wallywhy100 are by the Wally-Ferretti Group engineering team, with Studio A. Vallicelli & C. responsible for the interior design. The yacht is being marketed as a crossover between a coupé boat and a cruiser with significant volume.
“Whilst beautiful and sleek, traditional coupés do not offer the comfort and livability that today’s owners expect from their boats,” Stefano de Vivo, Wally’s managing director, stated in a press release. “In the same way, larger and more voluminous boats generally don’t offer speed or usage flexibility. This leaves owners with a tough choice: Do they want to compromise on comfort or performance?”
The philosophy of the wallywhy lineup is to eliminate that choice and provide both. For instance, on the wallywhy100, the cockpit is pushed far forward to create more space for indoor-outdoor living areas, but there’s also a slightly reversed bow to help with performance in most weather conditions.
Wally says the wallywhy100 could be used on its own as a weekender yacht or as a support vessel for a larger yacht, thanks to its crew quarters and toy-stowage capacity.
Electrically regulated glass: The en suite head in the master stateroom has glass that can be transparent or opaque, depending on whether owners want the master overall to feel larger or if they want their privacy.

First look: Wally 101 – new 101ft yacht due in 2023
- July 12, 2021
The luxury yacht manufacturer is due to launch a new boat in 2023, the new Wally 101 inspired by the well-respected Wallycento design rule
Wally has sold its first new sailing yacht since the buy-out by Ferretti in 2019 – a 101-footer inspired by the Wallycento box-rule design, called the Wally 101.
The fully custom carbon racer displaces just 56.4 tonnes, much of which lies in the keel. It will bristle with technology, including double low- and high-pressure hydraulic systems for faster sail handling, a lifting keel and retractable prop. This last is estimated to reduce drag by 5%, giving a 10-second edge for each mile sailed.
For all that, the Wally 101 is also described as a family-friendly boat, which retains Wally’s original ethos. A Magic Trim system allows the boat to be sailed with a minimal crew, and she offers comfortable dining in the cockpit, or sunbathing aft.
Founder Luca Bassani describes the yacht as “flying the flag for the planet”. The claim rests on the Judel/Vrolijk-designed hull being very easily driven, making 18-20 knots in cruising mode, but exceeding wind speed even in light airs. Delivery is scheduled for spring 2023.
Wally 101 specifications
LOA: 30.80m / 101ft 1in LWL: 29.35m / 96ft 4in Beam: 7.49m / 24ft 7in Draught: 4.70m-6.80m / 15ft 5in-22ft 4in Builder: wally.com

Wally unveils new details of 24m wallywhy150 model
Wally , a brand of the Ferretti Group, has revealed new details about its in-build 24 metre wallywhy150 at the Cannes Yachting Festival.
First unveiled in July, the new model builds on the success of its bigger sister, the wallywhy200 , and expands Wally's range of offerings in the motor yacht segment.
The wallywhy150 was masterminded by Luca Bassani and the Wally-Ferretti Group Engineering department, with Studio A. Vallicelli & C creating the interior concept.
The yacht places a heavy focus on alfresco living, with Stefano de Vivo, Wally project manager saying “almost the full length of the boat is outside”.
The yacht features an upper deck that is completely open, creating a huge amount of protected space which de Vivo says is equivalent to the typical volumes on a 40 metre.
Similarly to the wallywhy200, the new model features a forward cabin which enjoys wraparound windows and a 270-degrees view. “Using so much glass obviously presented our engineers with numerous technical challenges, but you have to be brave enough to push the boundaries and shift existing design parameters,” explained de Vivo.
The high bow of the yacht, together with the glass window, create an impressive “wow factor” effect in the cabin, which is complemented by a generous en suite and ample storage solutions.
Volume is another key cornerstone of the design. The headroom in the saloon is smarty designed with curving segments that reach 2.5 metres, which de Vivo says is comparable to a yacht more than three times the LOA of the wallywhy150. The space spans the full beam of the space and extends down to the sea to create a closer connection with the water.
Luca Bassani, Wally’s founder and chief designer has predicted the simplicity and accessibility of the layout to be hugely appealing to a range of clients. “It offers the ultimate flexible platform for those looking to expand the horizon of traditional planing-craft usage."
He went on: "This is the first vessel with direct access to the sea at cockpit level with no stairs necessary–it is effectively a floating loft on the water. As we all know, owners are increasingly prioritising adventures on the water and exploration more than ever, and we made sure to incorporate this into thewallywhy150’s design.”
Accommodation is for eight guests across four generous staterooms, with four crew members also housed in two large cabins.
Tender storage is found in a huge aft deck platform which includes a multipurpose hydraulic ladder, passerelle and a hydraulic platform. Owners are able to outfit this area as desired, with the capacity to bring all types of water toys on board, as well as a large 3.95-metre tender.
De Vivo added: “After the success of the wallywhy200 we were asked to offer the same characteristics of this breakthrough model in a smaller size. We decided to develop this model to be 24 metres in length and 150 GT and added in some tailored and unique features to give her own identity."
“The challenge was to incorporate some of the 200’s best features into a smaller package," said Luca Bassani, founder and chief designer of Wally, "while opening the door to new and innovative solutions in this size range."
The wallywhy150 offers two propulsion packages: her optional three IPS1350 engines can reach a maximum speed of 23 knots, or 21 knots with the standard propulsion of three IPS1200 engines.
Construction on the first wallywhy150 is already underway and is scheduled to launch in February 2023 with a global debut in spring. "As an industry paradigm-shifting project, the wallywhy150 looks set to be seen around the world, from top Mediterranean ports to remote islands in the Caribbean,” de Vivo added.

Sunrise Yachts, a luxury yacht building company which is based in Turkey, has been made a main sponsor of next year’s 2011 Moscow International Boat Show (MIBS). The four-day Russian yacht show event is currently scheduled to run from April 14-17 at the Moscow’s Crocus exhibition centre.
moscow boat show
MIBS is organised by the ITE Group and it is one of Russia’s leading boat shows and is an internationally recognised superyacht event. The show covering everything from small parts and accessories to large superyacht with over 9,000 people and 178 exhibitors attended the last year show.
The Paolo Scanu-designed Sunrise 45 yacht is an ocean-going cruising yacht that was released in 2009 to much acclaim at this was the group’s first-ever model.
Sunrise Yachts was founded in 2007 by the German entrepreneur Herbert P Baum along with the French-British yacht builder Guillaume Roché. The luxury yacht group is based in Antalya, Turkey and utilises a 10,000sq m shipyard facility. Sunrise has two sheds measuring 100m (328ft) x 16m (53ft), as well as a 70m (230ft) x 16m (53ft) fully acclimatized paint shed that can accommodate new-build and refit projects up to 65m (213ft) in length and 1,200 tonnes displacement.

Along each side of the yacht-building facility, space is available for long-term sub-contractors with the latest equipment and logistics capabilities, along with air-conditioned storage, ventilation and extraction plants. The shipyard is organized as an “assembler,” based loosely on the car industry’s model, with a small, yet powerful project management team charged with running all the in-house long-term sub-contractors.

wallywind150 project
"Sailing yachts that masterfully combine Wally’s high-tech build with sharp styling and a clean, elegant interior to produce bluewater cruisers that thrill on the racecourse."
Our sailing flagship is a masterful blend of technology, comfort and style. Like the rest of the range, the wallywind150 is a hybrid of racing pedigree and cruising capabilities. She can win races, turning experienced heads, and carry you in safety and comfort to the far corners of the world’s oceans. But her sheer scale opens up intriguing possibilities which Wally has exploited in its usual innovative fashion. The ’double deck’ design reaches its zenith in this yacht, which puts the full-beam owner’s cabin right aft where it can benefit from a unique private lounge. This flexible indoor-outdoor space lies between the grand double doors to the owner’s suite and the ‘terrace-on-the-sea’ beach club. It is hard to imagine a better equipped owner’s cabin, with the sort of dimensions usually only seen on land. A sleek, glass deckhouse roof swoops aft, largely concealed behind the raised bulwarks which preserve the elegant overall proportions of the yacht. This is the social centre of the wallywind150, where guests dine and relax together in the company of the seascape that surrounds the boat. It gives flush-deck access to the well-sheltered guest cockpit before climbing to the aft cockpit. Guests will be enchanted by the many relaxing possibilities, and the size of the beach club aft. But perhaps most of all by the forward cockpit, whose elegant teak steps and deep seating are revealed once the 5.0m tender has been launched.
Double deck, double the fun.
Live "al fresco".
