Named for the James Taylor song "Carolina In My Mind", you'll find yourself more than going to Carolina in your mind, because this impeccably kept yacht can truly go anywhere! Carolina is the "CPMY" cockpit version of the popular 44' DeFever Trawler, also known as a 44+5. The 49 CPMY is a rare flush-deck yacht with single-level walkaround decks that give it exceptional accessibility as well as a beautiful profile. Stabilized, with a solid fiberglass, full-displacement hull and hefty weight, she delivers a very comfortable ride.

She has a full-beam owners' stateroom aft with ensuite head and separate shower, washer, dryer and copious storage. The large V-berth stateroom forward has an ensuite head that doubles as a day head. Her salon has free-standing furniture, a fully equipped U-shaped galley, breakfast bar, helm station and chart table, port and starboard doors, and the main entrance to the aft deck. Above is a large flybridge with plenty of seating. In her walk-in engine room you'll find twin John Deere engines, Naiad stabilizers, a 10 KW generator, and abundant tankage to take you anywhere you want to go, whether you're planning extended cruising offshore or a trip on the Great Loop.

The 49 CMY is sometimes referred to as a 44 + 5 because she is the same as a 44 but with a 5-foot cockpit. The 49 carries more fuel, usually 1,100 gallons and is a little faster than the 44, due to her longer waterline length. Very popular now. An excellent cruiser for a couple with occasional guests. This is an excellent boat for the tropics because of the large shaded area under the usual Bimini top. Most people enclose the bridge with full canvas and run the boat from the bridge. Some models have a steering station in the saloon that is rarely used because of the comfort and visibility from the bridge. Not in production in 2019.

The DeFever 49 Cockpit MY is basically a DeFever 44 Trawler with a 5-foot cockpit addition and extended rudders and shafts. She’s not your typical sundeck trawler with an elevated cabintop over the aft stateroom. Rather, the 49 is a rare flushdeck yacht with single-level walkaround decks—an eminently practical design that results in an attractive profile as well as generally improved accessibility. The DeFever 49 is a heavy boat for her size, and her full-displacement hull delivers a notably comfortable ride in an offshore chop. Belowdecks, her two-stateroom interior is arranged with the galley aft in the salon, which makes it convenient to the aft deck. Visibility from the lower helm is excellent, and port and starboard doors forward in the salon provide easy access to the decks. The aft stateroom is huge with tremendous storage and space for a washer/dryer. A great feature of the DeFever 49 is her walk-in engineroom with its easy access and near-standing headroom. Additional features include a full teak interior, wide side decks, radar arch, hardtop, and a transom door. Twin 135hp Perkins diesels cruise the DeFever 49 at an economical 7–8 knots.
