How many times have you been on vacation and arrived at your hotel, only to find a giant line in the lobby of guests waiting to check in? What if I told you you didn’t have to ever face that problem again? Enter the Disney World Online Check-In service.

Any guest staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel has the option of skipping the traditional check-in process when arriving, and instead of checking in ahead of time from home!

With Disney’s Online Check-In you start the process from your electronic device at home. Then once your arrive and your room is ready, you will receive a text notification telling you that your room is ready.

In the meantime you can explore your hotel, visit one of the Disney theme parks or grab a bit to eat while you are waiting. In some cases, the Online Check-In even helps get your room ready faster than usual.

Which Disney Word Resort Hotels Use Online Check-In?

Disney Online Check-In Contemporary Resort

Disney’s Online Check-In is available to use at all Walt Disney World Resort hotels that are owned and operated by Disney themselves. This includes:

  • Standard Disney World Hotel Rooms
  • Disney Vacation Club Villas (DVC)
  • Club Level Rooms at all resorts
  • Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

Online Check-In is NOT available at the Swan and Dolphin Resort hotels since it’s not technically owned by Disney.

If you are venturing outside of Walt Disney World, you can also use the Online Check-In at Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort and Disney’s Vero Beach Resort.

Why Important After Disney World Reopening?

Disney World Check-In Beach Club Resort

Even though the Online Check-In system at Disney World has been around for a while now, it’s about to get a lot more important for guests. Due to the current health crisis, the Walt Disney World experience is going to be much different the next time you go, with many new safety measures being put in.

It was obvious that in order for Disney World to be able to reopen, they would need to cut down on crowds and keep guests as distant from each other as possible, among other things.

Disney’s Online Check-In does just that by allowing guests to bypass the lines in the hotel lobbies and go right to their rooms. The fewer interactions with other guests or Cast Members that occur, the more likely Disney is to succeed in staying open.

The latest updates show that Disney is strongly pushing guests to use the Online Check-In service , with advisories being shown to users in My Disney Experience. Before, Online Check-In was just offered as an alternative option for guests, but now they are really pushing it.

Guests will use it to go straight to their rooms, instead of going to the front desk when they arrive to limit interactions. The front desks in the hotel would still be open to help them with other needs during their stay.

When you enter My Disney Experience and go to view the “Resorts” section of the app, a message pops up on the screen telling guests it’s important to use the Online Check-In service when possible.

Advisory for guests to use Disney's Online Check-In in My Disney Experience

“To aid in distancing efforts and avoid delays, we strongly recommend that you use Online Check-In service to go directly to your room upon arrival.”

From that page, you can go to another one where you can learn more about “going directly to your room,” or “Check Your Direct-to-Room Status.”

Direct-to-Room Service My Disney Experience

There were rumors that Online Check-In would become mandatory once Disney World opens back up . This rumor comes from screenshots of the My Disney Experience app that were taken during the Disney Closure which showed Online Check-In as being required.

At this point in time, it doesn’t look like going directly to your room will really be 100% mandatory, there are some guests who just don’t know how to use My Disney Experience. However, since the majority are able, Disney is highly encouraging it in emails before you leave for your trip.

You can read our post for the full list of New Changes and Safety Guidelines coming to Disney World when it reopens.

What Time is Check-In at Disney World Resorts?

The standard check-in time for Walt Disney World Resort hotels is 3:00 pm for a regular room . For Disney Deluxe Villas the check-in time is 4:00 pm .

Using Disney’s Online Check-In service doesn’t mean that you an earlier check-in time. There are no early check-ins in Disney World Hotels that are scheduled. Using the online service can help though, and it sometimes results in faster check-ins.

When Can You Do Online Check-In for Disney World?

Disney World Online Check-In

Disney World’s Online Check-In service is available to guests 18 years and older 60 days before their scheduled arrival date.

Also, if you didn’t get your MagicBands shipped to you before your arrival date, you will have to do an in-person check-in upon your arrival to pick them up.

Before You Go

Why use Disney Online Check-In

While using Disney’s Online Check-In is extremely easy, there are a few things you need to know and prepare before you check-in for your vacation.

Reservation Number

At some point, before using the online check-in you will need to add your reservation to your My Disney Experience account. This is especially important with DVC members. Without that number the system won’t be able to check you in.

Party Contact Information

You will need to provide the contact information of all guests on the reservation during the online check-in process. This includes:

  • Names of everyone on the reservation
  • Arrival and Departure times.
  • Cell Phone Number/Email Address

Having your contact is important for the notification process since Disney will use that to tell you when your room is ready.

Row of MagicBands shipped to home

You need to make your MagicBand selections for your upcoming trip, before starting the online check-in process. This can be done by logging into your My Disney Experience account on Disney World’s website.

There you can make any color selections of modifications you like. If you use the app on your mobile device, it only allows you to choose whether or not you want the MagicBands.

Credit Card

You will need to keep your credit card on file to allow for charging privileges on the room and to pay your hotel balance and holding fee.

No Reservation Modifications

Online Check-In is for check-ins only. If you need to modify or change your actual reservations, you will need to speak with your travel agent or a Disney representative at (407) 939-6244.

Room Requests

Bay Lake Tower Online Check-In

You might have some special room requests like staying in a specific building of the hotel or having a certain view type. To do this, special room requests are possible in the online check-in process.

Some of the choices are:

  • Near the lobby
  • Near the pool
  • Near an elevator
  • Ground-floor room

Just remember that room requests depend on availability. Many of those options are popular and it doesn’t mean you are going to get it just because you requested it. Choose whichever is the most important to you and set it as the priority to make it more likely.

Service Your Way

Did you know you can save money on your Walt Disney World Resort hotel room by turning down housekeeping during your stay? Save $10 per night of your stay (minus 1 night) through a Disney e-gift card.

How to Use It?  How Does Online Check-In Work at Disney?

Now that you have everything ready, we are ready to start the Online-Check process.

In order to access Disney’s Online Check-In, you need to log in to your account in My Disney Experience. This can be done in the app on your cell phone or mobile device, or by going online to the website using a computer.

Here are the steps to complete the process:

  • Log in to your My Disney Experience account in the app or on the website.
  • Go to the “My Plans” section in My Disney Experience.
  • Click “Start Check-In” to enter your reservation page.
  • Confirm your email address and phone number for notifications when the room is ready.

That’s it, you’re done! Now just wait to get your notification that your room is ready.

Things to Keep in Mind

I told you that was simple. Here are some things to keep in mind during the Online Check-In process:

  • If you select “Not Sure” while setting your arrival time, it defaults to 11:00 am.
  • Don’t forget to add your mobile phone number to the check-in for notifications when the room is ready.
  • The credit card number you add to the reservation will be connected with your MagicBand and give you charging privileges in Disney World. This credit card will automatically be associated with ALL members of your reservation. To add different cards for different guests, you’ll need to visit the front desk.
  • The same is true with the MagicBand PIN you set up. That number will be assigned to ALL members of your party. Any changes will have to be made at the front desk.
  • Guests have the option to make two room requests per reservation . Put the one that is most important to you at the top so it gets prioritized.

Notifications

notification message Disney online check-in

Once arrived at the resort hotel, there are two ways guests can be notified that their room is ready:

  • Phone Message Notifications
  • Check “Direct-to-Room Status” on My Disney Experience app.

On your arrival day, you will receive a “Room Ready” notice on your phone when you can go to your room. If your room is ready upon arrival, you can skip the front desk in the lobby and go straight to your room.

If your room isn’t ready once you arrive at your resort hotel, then the message will notify you once it is. Once it is ready, you’ll get a message telling you the theme, building, location, and room number and you can go directly there.

You also can check your real-time “Direct-to-Room status by using the My Disney Experience app. On the day of arrival, just go into “My Plans” and click the button to see if the room is ready or not.

The room check-in is usually between 3:00 and 4:00 pm in most Disney World Hotels, so if you show up before that, there is a good chance you’ll have to find something to do in the meantime.

If that happens, you can leave your bags with Bell Services at your hotel and then go off and do something else. Depending on how much time you have, we recommend visiting one of the theme parks, or taking a nice and relaxing day by the pool.

If you don’t get a message, you can check in on the status of your room at the front desk.

Unlocking Your Door

Once your room is ready and you get notified, head to your room. To unlock your door you can use your MagicBand or the My Disney Experience app on your phone.

Now that you know how to use Disney’s Online Check-In, we’re going to share all the pros and cons of it with you.

1. Go Right to Your Room

Disney Online Check-In early to room

As long as you get your MagicBands sent to you before you leave for your vacation, there is no need to go to the front desk. Especially if you are arriving in the afternoon or evening, you can start heading to your room the minute you get to the resort.

Saving time is the whole point of the Online Check-In service and not having to go to the lobby will do just that. You’ll also save some extra steps that you would otherwise have to do going to the lobby and then over to your room.

Having the MagicBands is the key to all this because if you don’t have them you’ll have to stop by the front desk and pick them up, ruining the savings in time you’d otherwise have.

2. No Waiting in Lines

Right now this is especially useful as spending as little time possible in big lines is more important than ever. There is no need to wait in line because all the normal info the front desk gives you is already taken care of with Online Check-In.

This is especially useful if you are arriving with Disney’s Magical Express right at peak time. There’s nothing worse than being on a loaded bus of other guests just arriving and then having to wait in that huge line

Again, all of this means you are going to save time, which you can instead dedicate to having fun!

3. Could Lead to Early Check-In

Check-In All-Star Movies Resort lobby

While Disney doesn’t guarantee that your room will be ready before 3:00 pm, using the Online Check-In does sometimes speed up the check-in process.

Since using this service tells Disney ahead what time you’ll be arriving at the hotel, they usually will try to have your room ready as soon as possible. They have dedicated staff to help with the check-in process, and if they know you are coming, this sometimes leading to an early check-in

4. Decline Housekeeping

Sure you can do this anyway at the front desk, but we often forget to ask for it. This way you are prompted right during the online check-in process so you won’t forget. Again, this will save you $10 per night for all but one of the nights of your stay so it definitely could be worth it!

5. Get to the Theme Parks

Monorail passing by in Epcot Journey Into Imagination

Let’s face it, we’re really in Disney World for the theme parks, and using the online check-in will get you there sooner!

Your MagicBands will already have your park tickets on them good to go, and you can either drop off your bags at the room or with Bell Services and go! Nothing beats that!

Even though there are many benefits to Online Check-In, it doesn’t mean that you always should. There are some cons to using it that you should be aware of and reasons for not using it.

1. No “Welcome Home” Feeling

Getting hug from Minnie Mouse Disney Check-In

One of the reasons we keep going back to Disney World time after time is that “Welcome Home” feeling that you get once you step foot on property. There is something really special about stepping into the lobby of your resort and being greeted by the super friendly Cast Members.

We think this is especially important if it is your first time in Walt Disney World. When you check in at the desk you will receive a “Your First Time” button to commemorate your trip and adds to the special feeling.

Unfortunately, when you use the Online Check-In service, that special feeling is missing. Unless you walk through the main building, there is a chance that no one will greet you as you walk directly to your room. You lose that “Welcome Home” moment and all those extra personal touches that Disney is known for.

2. MagicBand or Credit Card Problems

Blue and orange MagicBands on wrist

By far one of the biggest problems with Disney’s Online Check-In is issues with your MagicBands or credit card.

If you followed the directions above, you should have got your MagicBands delivered to you in the mail before you left home. For the most part they work just fine as is, but it has happened to us multiple times that when we get to the hotel, our MagicBands don’t work and we can’t open the room.

It’s also very common for there to be a problem with how your credit card is linked to your MagicBand. Then when you try to buy something, you find that it doesn’t work at all.

Both of these problems mean that you are going to have to stop by the front desk in the lobby to get them resolved anyway. The worst-case scenario is when you think your MagicBands are working and you show up at the theme park only to have a problem. Waiting in line there to resolve it is a nightmare.

We recommend you check them before leaving your hotel. We usually buy something small in the gift shop like a bottle of water just to make sure everything is working properly.

3. Special Requests

While you can make some special requests during the online check-in process, your options are limited to selecting your preference for room location. You are able to request what type of room you prefer but not to be in a specific building or specific room.

If your room or any other special request is of a high priority to you, we recommend going through with a standard check-in. We’ve found better results in getting what we wanted if we talk with a real person and let them know how important our request is. There is also less room for a misunderstanding, which can sometimes happen with the online check-in.

4. No Upgrades

Disney Online Check-In Upgrade to better room

Another downside of using the Online Check-in at the Disney World Hotels is you eliminate the possibility of getting a FREE room upgrade.

If the hotel is not at capacity and you do a regular check-in at the desk, sometimes the Cast Member will surprise you with a free upgrade at no additional cost. It also never hurts to ask while you are at the front desk if they have any upgrades available. The worst they can say is no.

On a recent visit at Disney’s Riviera Resort, me and my dad originally had a Tower Studio room booked, by far the smallest room you’ll ever see and not not one you want to share with your dad if possible. Since it was a slow time, the front desk automatically upgraded us to a 2-Bedroom suite instead, a room that would normally cost more than double the cost of our room. And they gave it to us at no extra charge!

We never turn down the opportunity for a little extra pixie dust sprinkled on our vacation, and neither should you!

5. Room Wait Times Could Be Longer

While we listed in the “Pros” category that your wait might be faster than normal using the online check-in, at times we’ve also had to wait longer than usual for using it. If you are in a hurry and have somewhere to be, we’ve found that expressing that to the front-desk can often get you to your room quicker.

6. No Map or Resort Schedule

welcome display in Disney World hotel

If it’s your first time visiting the resort, you might want to pick up a map to find your way around or a resort schedule to know what activities are happening. While the map can be found in the My Disney Experience app, we sometimes like to have a paper copy to hold on to.

Also, if there are any special activities going on that day or week, the front desk receptionist will oftentimes mention them to us, things we otherwise wouldn’t have known by going straight to our room.

7. Club Level

Lastly, the Online Check-In might be inconvenient if you are staying in a Disney World Club Level room. You’ll need to stop by the front desk to pick up your serving schedule and it’s always nice to have a tour of the lounge, so you’ll end up stopping by the front desk anyway at some point.

Do You Have to Check-In Before Going to the Parks?

waiting in ride queue Flight of Passage

We know that from the minute you get to Walt Disney World you an’t wait to get to the parks! One common question we often get asked is: “Do you have to check-in before going to the theme parks?”

The answer to that question is yes. In order for your theme park tickets and Disney Dining Plan to work on your MagicBands, you need to be checked-in. However, you don’t have to check-in in person at the front desk. You can use the Online Check-in service no problem.

One important thing to do when using the online check-in is to set your arrival time to BEFORE the time you will be in the theme parks. If you had set your arrival to 4:00 pm and you try to enter the theme parks before that time, you may run into problems.

Should I Do Online Check-In at Disney?

Goofy holding surfboard Disney Online Check-In

After comparing the online check-in vs. a standard one at the front desk, there are some scenarios where it’s better to check in online and some when it might be better to go to the front desk and check-in with a person.

Front Desk Check-In – This is better if you have a lot of questions to ask or special requests. Also better for first-timers or if you love that “Welcome Home” feeling. The only option if you are looking for a free upgrade.

Online Check-In – This is the better option for Disney experts who know their way around the resort and don’t have any pressing questions or requests to ask. Better if you are in a hurry and want to get to the parks ASAP.

In the end, it’s up to you and your needs. Even if you do the online check-in, you can always stop by the front desk at any time and get your questions answered, or to fix broken MagicBands, so there’s not a lot of downside.

Check-In at Disney's Gran Destino Tower

Also at this time if you are worried about your health and trying to stay out of as many lines as possible, the online check-in is your best bet.

For us personally, though, we still prefer the standard check-in to the online version. We love the feeling of walking into the lobby of our favorite resorts and getting that personal touch from the Cast Members that keeps us coming back. We also never skip the opportunity to get a free upgrade, and even if it only happens to you 1 out of 10 times, it’s worth trying.

Our suggestion is to make your arrival day an easy day where you can stay by the pool and relax after your long journey. Doing it this way, you won’t be in a big rush to get to the theme parks right away, making the check-in process a bit more simple.

That said, we think Disney’s Online Check-In is a great addition and wonderful option if you want to save time and get to the action right away!

Ziggy Knows Disney close

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.

Wednesday 20th of May 2020

I like checking in at the counter for all the reasons you said. It is a great way to start the experience no matter how many times you have been there. Interacting with the cast, seeing the characters, the ambiance. Gotta love it. BTW. Is that you hugging Minnie?

Tuesday 19th of May 2020

If Disney would add a "special requests" option to leave comments, you could avoid having to fax or talk to a cast member in person for online check-ins. I usually request what specific building, floor, side, room number, etc. that I would like for my room. Most of the time I get what I want, but have to fax my request in advance (usually within 5 days before I arrive). It would be more convenient to be able to specify details during the online check-in. Disney just needs to add a comments section to do so.

At Disney’s Yacht Club Resort , all rooms have a full balcony or patio.

Enjoy the close proximity to Epcot’s World Showcase . While there is a boat launch available at Epcot, you can get there faster by walking.

You can access Disney’s Hollywood Studios by boat. You may also enjoy a brisk walk around the BoardWalk down to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In general, you may find the boat ride shorter than walking to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

These resorts offer one of the best pools on Walt Disney World property. While separate, the Yacht & Beach Club Resorts share the pool area. There is a “shipwreck” that offers the entry point to the main water slide. Some areas of the pool have a sandy bottom.

These resort hotels are located near the BoardWalk, offering a short walk to additional restaurants and nightlife that do not require park admission.

Sometimes Disney’s bus transportation may share buses with the other resort hotels in the Epcot area around the BoardWalk. If you find yourself stopping at multiple stops, you may want to get off at the first stop and just walk the rest of the way. This is sometimes quicker than stopping at each resort hotel if the bus loop is being shared with multiple resorts.

WDW – Direct to Room and Online Check-In Services

  • WDW – Direct to Room…

mickey hand door

The Walt Disney World Resort has designed a convenient option to help guests simplify their arrival while still enjoying a magical Disney welcome.  Use the Direct-to-Room service to get to the fun faster.  Bypass the Front Desk, get real-time room ready updates, and even use the My Disney Experience App as a digital key!

When you use the Direct-to-Room service, you provide information in advance that would typically be collected during a traditional check-in at the Front Desk. On arrival day, you will receive notifications on your mobile device with real-time updates, including when your room is ready and what your room number is. When your room is ready, use the Resort hotel map in the app to find your room. Then unlock your door with your MagicBand, or use the Unlock Door feature on the app.

Lobby

Online Check-in is a feature of the Direct-to-Room service that allows you to bypass the front desk.  Prior to your arrival, begin your check-in to go directly to your room using the My Disney Experience App.  To begin Online Check-in:

  •    Open the My Disney Experience App and tap the three lines at the bottom of the screen.
  •    Choose, “Future Plans” to see your resort Reservation.
  •    Select your resort reservation and tap “Start Check-In Now.”

5.   Scroll down to enter your PIN (if not already complete,d) select your housekeeping preferences, then tap “NEXT.”

6.   Review your information and make any necessary changes here. Then tap, “I AGREE.”

On the day of arrival your resort will place an authorization hold on the card on file for any balance due PLUS $100 to cover estimated incidental expenses.  If a guest exceeds the $100 hold, an additional incremental hold will be placed automatically.  The hold placed on the card will never exceed the balance due plus $100.

We love the Yacht Club! We picked it the first time based on details - distance to the parks, reviews, etc - were not disappointed.

November 27, 2016

The Yacht Club's rooms are decorated in white with blue and brass accents. The most recent update also replaced carpeting with vinyl "hardwood" floors, freshening the rooms' look.

Dining isn't a strength at Yacht Club, but tons of options are short walk away at EPCOT or the four other resorts.

Ale & Compass Restaurant The cuisine is advertised as “New England comfort food.” Reader ratings have improved substantially over the years, without compromising the diversity of the menu.

Yachtsman Steakhouse Open for dinner only, Yachtsman Steakhouse serves up steak, seafood, and sides. This is a signature restaurant that tries to create an atmosphere, so expect high prices and to adhere to a minimal dress code.

Market at Ale and Compass A small spot carved out of the gift shop, the Market has coffee, pastries, and other small items.

Ale and Compass Lounge Ale & Compass is a competent restaurant, the kind of place you'll be happy to find at dinnertime if it's raining and you don't want to go outside; or everyone is starving and you need to eat right now. Ale and Compass is a better choice for breakfast. You'll find something for everyone in various combinations of eggs, potatoes, bacon, tofu, French toast, and so on, with a la carte options if you just want a quick bite.

Crew's Cup Lounge The Crew’s Cup Lounge is one of the better bars in Walt Disney World, although the reason for that statement is hard to explain. The entire room just feels...well, cool. It starts when you approach the door, which is found in the Yacht Club’s hallway, heading towards the Beach Club Resort. One of the things that makes Crew’s Cup cool is the understated sign hanging in the hall, a few steps up, as well as a plain door. The facade is easily overshadowed by the Yachtsman Steakhouse, but that secret, speakeasy style entry makes it a little hard to find, and we all know that the coolest places don’t need to advertise. Walking in you immediately notice the theme, which is rowing, but are not overwhelmed by it. There are a few images of rowers here and there and a few oars along the walls, but it is mostly just a quaint, slightly dark, overwhelmingly wood-paneled lounge. The rowing theme obviously fits in with the Yacht Club Resort and the Crew’s Cup looks as if it would be a place that a crew team would hang out after practice. While many Americans do not think of crew or rowing as major sports, it certainly has a long history in the United States. It began as soon as the English landed, having been popular there several centuries prior. Yale University boast the oldest American college crew club, started in 1843, and the Harvard versus Yale regatta is the oldest intercollegiate sport in the U.S. It is so old in fact (started in 1852), that it had to be paused during the American Civil War! The entire Crew’s Cup Lounge hints toward this history. The shell (or boat to you landlubbers) hanging from the ceiling is a common place for storage when there are no racks. The oars along the walls are each painted differently, which is how a team identifies itself (although these oars match no teams that we could find). Even just the exposed rafters and craftsman touches point toward a New England style around the year 1900. For those interested in what goes on in a kitchen, there is a window that looks into a section of the Yachtsman Steakhouse’s back of house. Often during dinner time you will see a prep chef getting ready for the mealtime rush. Once you decide to have a seat, there are a few different options, with seats at the bar, a handful of booths, a few tables and chairs, and also a few couches. Whether you are there for dinner, relaxation, or to watch the television, you will find a seat to match. Speaking of dinner, there is both food and drink aplenty, although the drink list is our one big knock on The Crew’s Cup as it follows the standard Disney drink menu. The food here is above average and consists of hearty appetizers, burgers, and chicken tenders. Nothing fancy, but good quality and decently priced (for Walt Disney World). The Crew’s Cup Lounge is not often mentioned as a favorite spot, and we will hope it stays that way because that just means more room for us. After all, if everyone knows it might stop being so cool.

Fittings & Farings Fittings & Farings is Yacht Club's souvenir shop. A small selection of snacks, drinks, and other groceries are available.

Refillable Mugs Allows guest self-service soft drink refills from quick-service locations in hotels ( NOT in theme parks ) for $21.99 for the length of stay.

Practical Matters

Check-in is 4:00pm Check-out is 11:00am

All Disney resorts participate in Disney’s Online Check-In program. If you’ve checked-in online and provided a mobile phone number or email address, you will receive your room number electronically. Then you can go straight to the room and use your smart phone or MagicBand to open the door, skipping the lobby altogether.

These rubber and plastic wrist bands can function as your room key, park admission, charge card, and more! MagicBands cost money, but if you'd like a free option you can use the official Disney World app on your phone or request an RFID-embedded card at the front desk.

Park tickets are best purchased online in advance either directly through Disney or via our Least Expensive Ticket Calculator . However, if you arrive without park tickets, head to the concierge desk in the hotel lobby.

Dining reservation are best made online in advance or on your phone or tablet during your visit. You can also use our Disney World Reservation Finder .

Washers and dryers are availabile in laundry facilities at each Disney World hotel. Cost is $3 per wash, and another $3 per dry cycle. A small selection of soap, fabric softener, and dryer sheets are also sold, for around $1 each. Only credit/debit cards can be used for payment. For more information, see our Disney World Laundry Facilities page.

If you lose something in a theme park or during your stay at a Disney-operated hotel, visit Disney's Lost and Found website or call (407) 824-4245.

Disney hotels have gifts shops near their lobbies with a decent collection of Disney-branded souvenirs. You will also find basic pharmacy items such as sunscreen, aspirin, allergy and cold medicine, baby diapers and formula, shampoo, and the like. Resort hotels with Deluxe Villa rooms offer an assortment of groceries, as well.

Disney recommends a third party company, Kid's Nite Out , to provide babysitting services at the resort hotels. See our Disney World Child Care page for more information.

The Yacht Club is located in the EPCOT Resort Area. All modern GPS apps, and Google Maps, will have clear driving directions to it. As a backup, look for Disney road signs directing you toward the EPCOT resorts (not EPCOT) once you're on property, and then look for signs for the Yacht Club once you're close.

Destination Boat Bus Car Walk
25 min 36 min
12 min 16 min 9 min

25 min 17 min

Disney Skyliner gondola system has a station at EPCOT's International Gateway entrance. The ride to Hollywood Studios is about 12 minutes (plus waiting time in line).

Disney provides free bus service to the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, and Disney Springs from the bus stop at the front of the resort. Buses run about every 20 minutes. For all destinations except the Magic Kingdom, it's probably faster to drive or walk.

If you have your own car , it's faster to drive yourself to Disney's Animal Kingdom, the Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach water parks, and Disney Springs. Disney's transportation system is faster to the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney's Hollywood Studios.

EPCOT is a short walk from the Yacht Club, and the walk to Hollywood Studios is just a little longer.

Disney provides free boat service to EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios from the resort.

You can walk between the Beach Club, Yacht Club, BoardWalk, Swan, Swan Reserve, and Dolphin. Boat service is available to all of those, too, except the Swan Reserve. The Skyliner at EPCOT's International Gateway can take you to Caribbean Beach, Riviera, Pop Century, and Art of Animation. For all other resort destinations, the fastest option is an Uber, Lyft, or taxi. Disney's bus service is free but slow, and will probably require you to use an intermediate destination like Disney Springs, to get to your destination. And that can take a couple of hours each way if you're unluckly.

if you have a car, the easiest way to get to Universal Orlando, SeaWorld, and other tourist destinations is to drive. Alternatively, Mears Transportation operates shuttle services between the Disney hotels and other theme parks.

Earning my ears.

  • Jun 24, 2017

Hello! Yesterday was my 60 day window. This will be my first stay at the Yacht Club and I am overly excited about it. I am surprising my parents with this stay. I did online check in yesterday but my only options were ground floor, lower floor, upper floor. Nothing that really jumped out at me. Should I just skip the online or what. I booked a woods garden view if that helps. Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks in advance

It doesn't really matter. When you do online check in you can give them room area requests and your estimated time of arrival. They will try and have your room ready by the time you arrive. We got a text about 3 hours before we arrived giving us our room number. We could have gone straight to our room and have been all set, but we didn't like the area that we were put in so we went to the lobby and got a room in the area where we wanted to be. It kind of defeated the purpose of online check in but it is a chance we take. We always do online check in and hope for the best knowing we can always stop in the lobby and ask for something different. Cheers!!!!!

Ultimate Guide to the Best Rooms at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

online check in disney yacht club

Staying at a Disney World deluxe resort usually comes with beautiful theming, nice rooms, and perks like Extended Evening Hours . One might argue, though, that one of the most beautiful deluxe resorts in Disney World is Disney’s Yacht Club .

online check in disney yacht club

This deluxe resort is a popular choice for guests wanting easy access to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios, which are both just a walk or boat ride away, or because of the epic pool, Stormalong Bay, which is almost like its own waterpark. It’s easy to decide why guests stay here, but, which rooms are the best ?

The Yacht Club is a five-story deluxe resort and is themed around the refinement of a New England yachting club. The resort has a soft gray exterior accented by striking red and white striped awnings and the interior is lined with warm woods, nautical instruments, and a giant globe as the lobby centerpiece. The resort faces Crescent Lake, is close neighbors with Beach Club Resort, and has the best resort pool on property. You’ve picked a beautiful resort to spend your Disney vacation, but let’s look at the best rooms!

The Yacht Club rooms are elegant and stately and might be a bit “executive” and bland when compared to some of its counterparts. Keeping with the nautical theme, you’ll find warm woods, navy blue and beige contrasted against crisp white. But one of the favorite elements in the room are the navy curtain which features fictional Disney constellations and a bit of whimsy to this otherwise rather corporate feeling room.

There are 635 guest rooms and 21 suites at the Yacht Club. The rooms are typically 381 square feet and feature two queen-size beds, a daybed, and a desk with chairs. There are some different categories to choose from: Standard View, Garden View, Water View, and Lagoon or Pool View .

For an extra cost, there are also 70 club level or concierge rooms on the fifth floor Regatta Club. Those these rooms are basically the same as standard rooms, they do offer access to additional amenities, including:

  • An exclusive check-in area
  • A concierge cast members to assist with personal vacation needs
  • Nightly turndown service
  • Access to a club lounge stocked with complimentary food and beverages

4th Floor Rooms

The top floor is typically reserved for the Club level rooms, but the next best thing without that concierge price tag is the fourth floor. These rooms provide better views (no matter what you’re direction you’re looking), but particularly if you have a Pool View where lower level rooms would just give you views of the back of pool lounge chairs.

Gazebo View

You won’t find “Gazebo View” listed in the options, but rooms ending –48, –50, –52, –54, and –63, as well as odd-numbered room –67 through –97 over look the gazebo which make for a serene view. And you even be in for a show if one of the Disney’s Fairytale Weddings occurs there during your stay (no invitation required!).

Corner Rooms

Rooms that fall on the corner of buildings sometimes come with a little extra elbow room or even an extra window. For that chance to snag not just one views, but two look at these options, rooms ending in: -001, -009, -114, -122, -027, -043,  -065, -155, -163, -164, -201, -209, -210.

If you’re looking to be closer to EPCOT, Stormalong Bay, and the Beach Club, ask for rooms ending in -190 through -241. If you’re looking for rooms closer to the Swan and Dolphin and Hollywood Studios, ask for rooms ending in -001 to -054.

Visiting Disney’s Yacht Club Resort – Our Staycation!

online check in disney yacht club

We enjoyed a wonderful staycation at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort at Walt Disney World. This resort had been on our Disney bucket list for a long time! What did we think? Find out below.

1 – Disney Yacht Club Resort

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and its sister, Disney Beach Club Resort, offer deluxe lakeside accommodations. The resort offers a grand New England-style yacht club experience with fantastic amenities. It has one of the best locations of any Walt Disney World Resort, offering easy access to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This was our first time staying at the resort, and we couldn’t have been more excited to explore and enjoy our time.

2 – Checking In

When visiting a Walt Disney World resort, the easiest way to check-in is to do the online check-in before your arrival. This will allow you (most of the time) to go straight to your room and skip the front desk. (Click here to learn more about the Direct to Room check-in process). I had completed the process earlier in the week and noted that we would be aiming to arrive around 11:30 am. This is well before the 3:00 pm check-in time, but we knew that if our room was not ready, we would still be able to enjoy lunch and the pool. When we arrived, our room was not ready, so we walked around the resort. After a short wait, our room was assigned to us. Because our room was not ready when we arrived, we were switched to a different room. Disney staff did try to accommodate our early arrival, and we appreciated their effort and the very short wait to get into our room.

3 – Rooms Options

Like other Deluxe resorts, Disney’s Yacht Club offers a variety of room types. From standard rooms to two-bedroom suites. We enjoyed a standard room with two queen beds and a twin-sized sleeper sofa. Standard amenities include: hairdryer, internet, coffee maker, telephone, in-room safe, iron and ironing board, and a mini-refrigerator. We also had a balcony with two chairs and a small table. We had a standard view room, so our room looked out to the parking lot. Other views include: garden, woods, or water. The photos below will give you an idea of what our room was like. Currently, rooms are receiving enhanced cleaning. A leaflet was left that shared how Disney is taking care to clean the rooms during the pandemic. Our room was everything we would expect from a Disney deluxe resort!

Yacht Club Standard Room

4 – The Best Pool on Property

After we checked in, our first stop was the very popular Stormalong Bay. Yacht Club and Beach Club share many amenities, including Stormalong Bay, and this 3-acre pool area keeps guests coming back! Because of its popularity, Disney Cast Members will check your MagicBand to ensure that you are a guest of the resort before letting you in the pool area. We were then given a wristband for the day, so we didn’t have to keep getting our bands checked if we left the pool area. We found chairs and enjoyed a lovely warm afternoon at the pool.

The pool offers poolside cabana rentals, which are proving very popular with guests. Stormalong Bay includes a sand-bottomed pool, circular lazy river, and one of the highest hotel waterslides at Walt Disney World—a life-sized shipwreck replica. I enjoyed the waterslide twice, and it was a lot of fun! There are also three whirlpool spas and three leisure pools at Disney’s Beach and Yacht Club Resorts if you are looking for a quieter experience. The pool experience was everything we hoped for, and had a wonderful afternoon. We even came back later in the evening to enjoy the sunset and relax.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by DisneyLists.com (@disneylists_com)

5 – Dining Options

Because Yacht Club and Beach Club share their amenities, there are plenty of dining options available to choose from including: Ale & Compass Restaurant, Ale & Compass Lounge, The Market at Ale & Compass, Beaches & Cream Soda Shop, Beach Club Marketplace, Martha’s Vineyard, Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar, and Grille, Cape May Café, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Crew’s Cup Lounge, and finally, Room Service.

The dining booking window is sixty days. If you know you want to dine at any of these restaurants, we highly recommend making your reservations as soon as possible. We could not get a reservation, so we dined at Disney Springs. Other great options are dining at EPCOT, Disney’s BoardWalk, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Riviera Resort via the Disney Skyliner.

6 – Transportation

As we have mentioned, Disney’s Yacht Club is conveniently located next to several different areas. You can take a short walk to EPCOT’s International Gateway and the International Gateway Skyliner Station. The Skyliner will connect you to Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You can also walk to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which will take about 10-15 minutes. Friendship Boats that run to Disney’s BoardWalk, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also an option.

We enjoyed a lovely Skyliner ride from EPCOT station to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and back again in the evening. We love the Skyliner at night, and it was a fun way to spend part of our evening. We also enjoyed a ride our next morning to enjoy the daytime views the Skyliner has to offer.

7 – A Disney Bucket List Resort

We really enjoyed our short visit to Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. The resort delivers on location, amenities (especially the pool), and beautiful rooms, and the resort is gorgeous. This resort had been on our bucket list for quite some time, and we were thrilled to finally stay here. We highly recommend the resort to you as well!

Editor’s Note: Our travel partner, Magical Vacation Planner, provided us with a complimentary stay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. However, as always, the thoughts and opinions in this article are entirely our own.

50 Magical Tips for the Disney Yacht Club

Yacht Club Tips

Disclosure: This Disney’s Yacht Club tips page contains affiliate links. Read  full Disclosure Policy .

While it may seem to be just an extension of its younger sister, the Beach Club , the Yacht Club is an independent resort with its own fun and amenities. With that in mind, there are plenty of tips that will help you better navigate the Disney Yacht Club!

Tips for Planning Your Voyage to the Disney Yacht Club

Yacht & beach clubs – sisters, not twins.

One of the best Disney Yacht Club tips is to know the difference between the two resorts. Even though the Yacht and Beach Clubs share some amenities, like the main pool area and the fitness center, they are two completely different resorts. The theming of the Yacht Club is more mature and adult-focused, while the Beach Club is designed for families. Be sure to check out plenty of photos and guides ahead of time to know which one is best for your party.

Seafaring Theme

If theming is important to you, know that the theme of the Yacht Club fits with its name. It is all about sailing and voyaging on the sea , with deeper color palettes and wood tones. This is a changeup from the brighter, lighter atmosphere of its beachy neighbors. That isn’t a bad thing, the Yacht Club is gorgeous! Many all-adult groups love the lavish feeling of the stately Yacht Club. However, if you’re looking for that beach-vacation vibe, you might want to book next door.

Planning a Wedding? Consider a Yacht!

A Disney wedding is one of the most magical experiences on earth! One of our tips for planning a Disney wedding – check out the Disney Yacht Club.

With the ballrooms connected to this resort via walkway, the Yacht Club is a great place to host a large event like a wedding . Even if you have your wedding elsewhere on the property, the Yacht Club ballrooms are ideal for the reception. At the end of the evening, you can head right back to your room in the Yacht Club, just a quick walk away.

Wedding Gazebo

Speaking of weddings, if you’re looking for an outdoor Disney location, you’ll love the Wedding Gazebo . Nestled into the main courtyard, this beautiful space is ideal for a small, intimate ceremony, although it can accommodate up to 120 guests. Even if you don’t want to have the ceremony here, it is a gorgeous spot for pictures.

One of the major wedding tips is to check out the venue ahead of time, so be sure take a peak at the Disney Yacht Club Wedding Gazebo.

Mix Work and Play

Hosting a corporate event or team building retreat? Not only should you consider Disney World , but you should also consider the Yacht Club as your “home base.” Similar to the wedding venue, Disney is set up to help make your work events go smoothly, all while enjoying that touch of magic.

The Disney Yacht Club has a sense of elegance and sophistication about it that will impress right off the bat, making it the perfect place to house corporate guests. Easy proximity and access to the convention center is another perk, as it reduces travel time. This sort of reduction makes for extra time in the day for fun!

Don’t Leave Pluto at Home

If you have dogs, you’re going to love this! The Yacht Club is one of the dog-friendly resorts on property, meaning that you can bring your furry friend with you on your Disney vacation . There are a fee extra fees associated with having this extra member in your group, and you do need to book in advance ((407) 939-7539). You can even have someone come hang out with your pup during the day while you’re at the parks!

Make an Itinerary

Determine what days you will be doing which activities before your trip. Especially with the park pass system , know which days will be park days (and which park you’ll be in) and which days you will do other things. This will help with packing as well, since you’ll know what outfits you need when.

If you know you’re going to get up early for the Magic Kingdom on Tuesday, maybe don’t plan a late night out on Monday. Also, try not to plan too many park days in a row. A day off in between will do you a world of good!

Choose Daily Outfits

Speaking of wardrobe, planning out your outfits for each day is a great idea. This makes packing easier, and also helps to coordinate the family for photo opportunities. I even like to divide particular outfits into bags, labeled for the day I’m going to wear them. I know it seems excessive, but believe me, it helps with organization. These tips are particularly good with kids, as it simplifies packing and getting ready during your stay at the Disney Yacht Club!

Don’t forget to look at the itinerary you made! If you’re having a special dinner or hitting a particular park, that will help remind you of special outfits and items you want to pack.

Special Celebrations

When you book, be sure to specify if you’re having a celebration during your stay! A birthday , anniversary, honeymoon – any celebration will be marked by special decorations in your room.

Since the celebration styles tend to be themed along with the resort, you’ll end up with your own fun sea décor to go along with whatever you are already celebrating! This is one of those tips that will add memorable magic to your Disney Yacht Club experience.

Pack a Pool Bag

Especially if I’m driving to the resort, I like to pack a separate bag with my pool items. That includes swimsuit, sunscreen, and extra clothes. This is so that, if the room isn’t ready when we arrive, I can head to the bathroom, change into my swim gear, and enjoy the pool while I wait. Especially with such an awesome pool as Stormalong Bay, you don’t waste any of the time you could be poolside!

Pack a Cover-up

Along the same lines, you should plan to bring some sort of swim cover up or “over clothes” to wear back from the pool. After using the resort towels, the expectation is that you will return them before exiting the pool area. Unless you bring your own towel, that means you won’t have one to wrap around yourself for the walk back to your room. That’s where having a cover up, or even just a dedicated pool t-shirt and shorts, can be nice. You won’t feel quite so exposed as you walk back through your resort.

The Disney Yacht Club is a decent size, so this is one of the tips you’ll be glad you remembered!

Know Your Route

For those driving to the resort, make sure you know exactly what route you need to take to get to Disney Yacht Club. While many of us depend on the GPS, occasionally the generated directions take you to the wrong places on Disney property. One of my go-to tips is to check the map ahead of time to be sure you’re headed to the right place, in this case the Disney Yacht Club. You also don’t want to pull into the Beach Club by mistake!

Get the App, Get the Map

The My Disney Experience app has become a crucial component to any Walt Disney World vacation, from purchasing tickets and making dining reservations to obtaining a coveted Rise of the Resistance boarding pass. This app is important at your resort as well, as you can use it for as a map to navigate the resort. Most of the resort amenities are on the backside of the resort, so you wouldn’t necessarily see them as soon as you walk in. Places like restaurants and shopping are also spread out, so it’s good to have that visual to help guide you.

Plan Rainy Day Fun

This resort is a fabulous place to explore, so you should make a few activities for your kiddos in case of rain. Bingo, scavenger hunts, and photo journals are all great options for a day stuck inside. You can find some online, make your own, or ask for a scavenger hunt from the Front Desk. The Disney Yacht Club Cast Members might also have some tips of how to make the most of rainy day!

Rainy days are also perfect opportunities to check out the Beach Club as well, since the resorts are right next to one another!

Setting Sail – Tips for Enjoying the Disney Yacht Club

Online check-in.

One of the first things you should do when you arrive is check in. You can actually use the My Disney Experience app to do this weeks ahead of time. However, I suggest waiting until your flight comes in or you’re driving onto Disney property. From there, you can check back periodically to see if you have been assigned your room. Until then, hang at the pool!

Prevent Soda Spending – Get a Refillable Mug

With the creation of the Disney Dining Plan , resort guests can purchase a refillable mug for all self-service beverages at their resort. Whether you have the plan or not, you can buy the mug for $19.99 (sometimes more for specialty mugs). A regular soda at Disney World is $3.99, and if you drink two sodas a day for a five-day vacation, that comes out to $40! With the mug, you can save lot of money on nonalcoholic drinks (soda, juice, coffee, etc.) by refilling instead of buying a new drink.

The free refills are only good for the length of your stay, but as the mugs change in design from time to time, they make great souvenirs. One of my tips is to fill the mug with coffee when you’re leaving the Disney Yacht Club on the way to the park, and then rise it out and use it for water later. The refills don’t work in the parks, but if you bring a soda bottle or another beverage you can use the mug then.

You can often get seasonal refill mugs as well at prime times like Halloween and Christmas or for special anniversaries. A cool insulted Star Wars mug is also available for a bit extra.

Where is the Mug?

Stop in the Market at the Ale & Compass to grab your refill mug…and get it filled while you’re there! If for some reason you can’t find it, Beaches and Cream Soda Shop, Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar & Grill, and the Beach Club Marketplace all have it.

Refill stations are outside Hurricane Hanna’s and at the Beach Club Marketplace, although we recommend the first if you’re at the pool. You can also stop in the Market to get your mug refilled.

Right now, guests are not permitted to fill their own mugs, but a Cast Member will be happy to get it filled for you!

Rent a Boat

Boats for rent at Bayside Marina

Right outside the Yacht Club is the Bayside Marina, where you can rent boats of varying sizes by the half hour. On a day you’re not going to the parks, this is a great family activity! Cruise around Crescent Lake, taking in the sights from a different view, and get some amazing pictures. Your kiddos (12 and older) can even captain the Sea Raycers, my personal favorite growing up.

Walking to Epcot is by far the quickest way to get there, and it is faster than the bus. International Gateway, Epcot’s back entrance, is right next store to the Beach Club. Yes, there is a bus to Epcot, but in the time it would take to walk to the bus stop you would already be in the park!

It’s understandable that you might choose to take other transportation to Hollywood Studios, but you can also walk there. I would recommend it, at least at the beginning of the day, because it is the least busy route. On your way back, you can also take a boat or the Disney’s Skyliner for a leisurely ride.

Disney skyliner gondola system

Bus Stop is out Front

There’s only one Disney transportation bus stop at the Yacht Club, located right out in front of the lobby. Just go to the left of the main entrance, past the car loop, and you’ll find the stop. The only downside is if you’re staying a little ways from the lobby, you’ll need to make time to walk to the bus stop.

The Beach Club has its own stop, so make sure when you’re coming back that you get off at the right one! Both the Yacht & Beach Clubs share a bus to and from the parks, so it’s important that you pay attention to the stop.

Ride the Monorail

online check in disney yacht club

Another great transportation alternative is the Epcot monorail. This line runs from Epcot to the Ticket and Transportation Center, and from there you can hop a ride to the Magic Kingdom.

It is about a fifteen-minute monorail ride, but that’s roughly the same as a bus ride. It’s a nice change of pace, and definitely more convenient if you have a stroller or a wheelchair in your group. Besides, who doesn’t love a good monorail ride?

Use Your Own Car

Drove your own car? Use it! Since you have to pay to park at the resorts, you might as well taken advantage of having your own vehicle. As you’re already paying a daily parking fee, you do not have to pay the fee again at the parks!

With this in mind, I always suggest taking your own car. It is the fastest and most dependable way to get anywhere, especially at the end of a park day. You can always use the Disney transportation to take a quick jaunt back to your resort if you don’t want to lose your parking space…just remember where you left your car!

Take a Break

One of the biggest mistake people make on their Disney vacation is pushing too hard. Even adults need to take a breather, so don’t be afraid to take a break. Especially if you’re at Epcot or Hollywood Studios, you are so close that you won’t lost much time travelling. The proximity of the Yacht Club to these parks makes it easy to get back quickly, so you won’t lose time on travel.

In the summer, Florida is hot . Everyone in your group, from toddlers to grown-ups, will be glad for the chance to go for a swim or just be in the AC for a little while. This tip is particularly useful if you’re planning to go to the park in the evening, as you can recharge a bit before a late night.

Explore the Boardwalk

The boardwalk joins all the Epcot resorts in this area, as well as connecting to the walkway over to the Swan and Dolphin . Forming a loop, you can check out all the fun carnival activities over on the BoardWalk side, or just get in some good exercise! It’s an easy way to check out all the different resorts in your area, giving you something to do on your day off from the parks.

Boardwalk in Walt Disney World

There’s also tons of delicious food at the BoardWalk , if you’re looking for something different to try. I know the Yacht & Beach Clubs have amazing food, but if you’re on a ten-day vacation you might want to check out some of the other options.

Use. The. Pool.

Stormalong Bay is, without a doubt, one of the top three pool complexes in Disney World. Much better and you’d have to be at a water park! Heated water, incredible shipwreck slide, sandy bottom, and a lazy river? Come on, it’s amazing! Not only that, but the pool area is huge , spreading between the Yacht and Beach Clubs like a beach paradise.

I recommend spending at least one day at this pool. It may seem like a long time, but trust me, you’ll be glad you did. Between the slide, the whirlpools, lazy river, and amazing dining options, you’ll be amazed at how quickly the time flies.

Keep Your MagicBand with You

Always make sure everyone in your group always wears their MagicBand. You should be doing this anyway, as wearing it is the best way not to lose it, but you definitely want to do it at the Yacht and Beach Clubs. When you go to Stormalong Bay, you’ll need to scan in, and at peak times a Cast Member may check to be sure you’re Yacht Club guests.

As Stormalong Bay is so popular, plenty of other resort guests (and some not resort guests!) try to sneak into this pool area. To prevent this, guests use their MagicBands to prove that they are staying at the Yacht Club. I

f a Cast Member asks to scan your band, please don’t be offended. These procedures are there to make sure the pool you’re paying to use isn’t taken over by outside guests.

Arrive Early, Arrive Together!

Again, this is a popular pool area. If you’re planning to hang out at Stormalong Bay, you and your whole group need to get there in the morning when the pool opens. You could also try to hit the pool at a time when people are leaving in the late afternoon. You can’t save seats at any Disney pool, and that almost goes double for a popular pool like Stormalong Bay. With that in mind, don’t plan to send one person down to hold on to a space for ten.

Also, if you’re using the space consistently, that’s fine, but make sure you’re there. Cast Members will remove resort towels that sit too long on vacant chairs, so just be aware of your space.

Sorry, No Pool Rafts!

This is a rule at all Disney pools with lifeguards, but even more strictly enforced at a popular destination like Stormalong Bay. With so many people in the pool at once, it is important that the lifeguard as an un-obstructed view of all swimmers. Life vests and puddle jumpers are allowed, but any sort of floatation device that isn’t attached the swimmer’s body isn’t permitted. If you’re concerned that your floaty wouldn’t be allowed, just use one of the life vests provided at the pool.

I point this out for two reasons:

One, as beach-like as this pool is, it’s still a pool. Again, the lifeguards have to be able to see everyone, and large floats prevent this.

Two, with the lazy river, guests might be tempted to think that this rule is suspended for that area. That is incorrect. You can borrow a Beach Club pool noodle or clear inner tube for floating along the current, but you need to leave your personal floats in your room.

Need Quiet? Try a Leisure Pool

Both the Yacht Club and Beach Club have their own leisure pools separate from Stormalong Bay. The Beach Club Villas also has a pool for their guests (although any Beach Club guest can use it). If you need a little quiet, or want a change of scenery from Stormalong Bay, the leisure pools can be a great option.

Leisure pool at Disney's Yacht Club

All guests of both resorts can use any of the leisure pools. I suggest finding the leisure pool closest to your room, and use that. Definitely go to Stormalong Bay at least once, but at other resorts I know I’ll forgo the main themed pool for the convenience of a closer leisure pool.

Don’t Worry about a Towel

Disney resorts provide pool towels to their guests, so don’t worry about bringing your own! You can of course, but sometimes it’s nice to have one less item to carry. Even if you do bring your own, grab a resort towel anyway. That way, yours is nice and dry when you want to bundle up for the journey back to your room.

You also can borrow life vests at the Disney pools, so you can save room in the suitcase and leave the puddle jumper at home. Again, if you’re more comfortable with your own, that’s fine. However, as someone who often flies, I appreciate the fact that I don’t need these bulky items!

Lunch at the Pool

Even if you bring your own pool snacks, there are plenty of food and beverage options if you want something more substantial. If you’re hanging out for the whole day, it can be nice to split a hot meal while you take a break from swimming.

The Beaches & Cream quick service window is a great option, as is Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill. At Hurricane Hanna’s, we recommend the seafood roll with homemade chips, while you can’t go wrong with a burger from Beaches & Cream. Of course, if you want to just have a sundae for lunch, we won’t judge you either!

Keep Off the Beach

There are plenty of signs and fences to remind you, but the beach itself is off limits. You’re in Florida and those gators are not the happy “zipa-dee-do-da” kind. The warning signs are there for a reason, so respect them for your own safety.

It is a bit disappointing, as in years past you could lounge on the beach, but again the rules are there for your protection. You used to be able to swim in the lake too, but that doesn’t mean it was a good idea!

No Towels on the Balcony

In order to preserve the sophisticated look of the Yacht Club, guests cannot hang their towels out on the balconies. This is true at all Disney resorts, but is more strictly enforced at the deluxe resorts in order to preserve the aesthetic. While you don’t have to pack a beach towel, as the resort provides them, if you do bring your own towel plan to hang it up in your room. For the resort towels, you should return them before leaving the pool anyway.

Indulge at the Yachtsman Steakhouse

Fitting with the classy vibe of the resort, the Yachtsman Steakhouse is perfect for a date night or special treat. Decadent New England cuisine brings you mouth-watering steaks and succulent seafood, all perfectly seasoned to bring out the best flavors. Those dining as a pair may enjoy the Chef’s Offerings for two – a prime porterhouse meal or chilled seafood tower. Both are on the expensive side, but are well worth it. The intimacy of sharing your meal is also perfect for a romantic evening!

Dress the Part

When you go to the Yachtsman, make sure you follow the dress code. A few restaurants around Disney World require a certain level of dress to maintain the atmosphere. These dress codes are not suggestions – you could be turned away from the restaurant if you are not dressed appropriately. Don’t risk it, make sure you’re prepared! Besides, if you’re going to a nice place, don’t you want the excuse to get dolled up?

online check in disney yacht club

Wonderful World of Wine

The second Wednesday of every month, the Yachtsman hosts a wine club, giving guests the chance to sample wines from California, Italy, France, Chile, Australia and more. Learn about where the wines are made, the climates of the vineyards, and the specialized winemaking processes of each location. Small plates are offered to pair with the wines, bringing out the flavor of both the wine and the food.

Guests must be 21 years or older and provide a valid ID. This is a popular experience, so be sure to call (407) 824-1391 to secure a spot!

Breakfast at the Ale & Compass

While it is open for dinner as well, you have to try the breakfast at the Ale & Compass Restaurant ! The other signature restaurant at the Yacht Club, these divine dishes are the perfect way to start your day. While the menu isn’t extensive, it doesn’t need to be. These offerings are rich, delicious, and cover a variety of tastes. Our favorites are the Dark Chocolate Waffle and Salted Caramel-Apple French Toast, both of which come with a side of breakfast meat. You’ll definitely want to take a walk around the boardwalk after this breakfast!

Make it Quick at the Market

The Market at the Ale & Compass is your quick-stop location at the Disney Yacht Club, perfect for a grab-and-go meal or other conveniences. This is a great option for an early morning park day or departure, as you can pick up a meal and be on your way. If you want to sit and eat, there’s a decent amount of seating right next to the Market.

The Market is also where you can find souvenirs and Yacht Club specific swag!

Use Mobile Order

Skip the line and order your counter service meals on your app! Whether you’re in the parks or just picking up pizza on the boardwalk, Mobile Order is an ideal way to get your food without having to wait. You also can find more customizations on the app, which helps you to get the food just the way you want it. If you’re going to the Market to grab a quick meal, particularly if you’re really grabbing and going, Mobile Order is a must.

Light Dinner at the Lounge

When you’re planning to spend an evening at the park, you may not want a heavy meal. It’s also possible to get literally weighed down by all the delicious Disney food. With that in mind, you might want to check out the Ale & Compass Lounge for dinner. Upscale pub food is the perfect quick meal, yet the portions are just right for something a bit lighter. Two different flatbread choices will leave you feeling satisfied without being stuffed, and there’s even a burger available if you’re worried about being hungry later.

Big Breakfasts and Parks Days Don’t Mix

Mickey Mouse waffles

I know it sounds like a great plan to do the character breakfast at Cape May Café before you head to Epcot, but trust me, it isn’t.

First of all, most of the breakfast reservations you’ll be able to get are a good hour or two after you would want to be in the park.

Even with the earliest reservation, you’re likely to get into the parks well after 10:00am, which is a late start.

Second, these wonderful, delicious, sumptuous breakfasts are going to slow you down. You’re much more likely to want to nap than hike around Epcot afterwards.

Finally, if you have somewhere to be after the meal, you’re going to be tempted to rush through it. That’s not fair to you (who’s paying for it!) or your family.

Slow down, enjoy yourself, and don’t plan a park day on a signature breakfast day.

Don’t Overeat

In general, there is a temptation to each waaaaay too much food when you’re in Disney. I get it, there’s amazing food everywhere! When the dining plans return, the need to eat to maximize your investment is even worse. However, you’re going to regret it if you overdo it. Find simple ways to reduce your meals, like choosing a lighter option or eating at a lounge instead of a table service. For the snacks, bring your own, or choose something like an apple or granola bar instead of that massive Mickey rice crispy treat. You’ll enjoy your time so much more if you don’t gorge yourself!

Go to Beaches & Cream!

Beaches & Cream is one of my favorite stops during a Disney trip, and after you go, you’ll understand why! Themed like a 1950s burger and soda shop, Beaches & Cream has plenty of fun nostalgia…with the delicious food to back it up.

Beaches & Cream has amazing sundaes, shakes, and specialty desserts, but the crowning glory is the Kitchen Sink. Served in an actual sink-shaped bowl, eight scoops of ice cream come covered in all the toppings you can imagine, as well as a full can of whipped cream! More recently, there have been variations on the Kitchen Sink, but the original version is certainly a remarkable sight.

Make a reservation for an inside table, or walk up to the window to get something to go. Sweet, savory, or a bit of both, you can’t go wrong with Beaches & Cream.

Sit on Your Balcony

As almost all the rooms have a balcony or patio, you should make good use of it! The views are beautiful, especially looking out over the boardwalk. Garden views are particularly peaceful, getting a little piece of nature in the midst of the resort. Sit out in the morning and enjoy a coffee, or watch the sun set over the lake as the evening begins to cool off.

If you’re traveling with kids and you’re all in one room, the balcony is especially nice. You can have some quiet time in the evening without waking your sleeping kiddos, while enjoying one of the features of your resort.

Homeward Bound – Hope to Sea You Soon!

Pack the night before.

It may be the last thing you feel like doing, particularly if you spent your last day at the park, but you’ll be glad you did in the morning. Packing ahead of time means less scramble, and you will be less likely to leave anything behind in the room.

Leave out your outfit for the next day and your essentials, but get everything else ready to go. If you have young kids, make sure you know the location of all their items. Your departure will be much smoother, and you will be less stressed, with this one big to-do item checked off your list.

Have Breakfast!

You might think there isn’t enough time for a meal, especially if you have a flight to catch. However, if you plan ahead, there will be enough time for you to eat before you head out, and we suggest that you do. Heading away from Walt Disney World on an empty stomach not only will make your departure harder, but will most likely make your whole party miserable (especially the kids). The Markey opens at 7:00am, but if that isn’t early enough for you, consider getting some snacks the night before to hold you over until you get to the airport.

If you’re driving yourself, at least get a grab-and-go item or snack to tide yourself over.

Check Out is at Eleven, but You Don’t Have to Leave!

Just because the checkout time is at 11:00am, that doesn’t make it your departure time. Even if you have a flight, the front desk will hold your suitcases until you’re ready to leave. If you drove yourself, just take your luggage out to your car. After all, you can leave at your own pace. From there, you can enjoy the amenities of the resort for the rest of the day!

This is nice if you don’t have far to travel or you’re transitioning between phases of your vacation. No need to rush away if you don’t have to do so!

Fabulous Photos – Pictures You Won’t Want to Miss!

Throughout this resort area, there are plenty of gorgeous photo opportunities for you and your family. Whether you want to just take in the scenery or plan your next Christmas card, take advantage of these gorgeous photo spots!

The Lighthouse

Serene bay at Disney's Yacht Club

I love this spot at the Yacht Club. Looking out over the lake, the lighthouse is an iconic Yacht Club image, and is especially pretty at night. Take a picture of the whole scene, or have a family photo shoot at its base. This is another one of those photos you might want to get from the lake if you rent a boat!

Even if you’re not at the Yacht Club to get married, the gazebo makes a lovely place for some sweet pictures. It’s a public space, so unless there’s a wedding happening there, you’re free to use it!

Shipwreck beach at Disney's Yacht Club resort

While you can’t go out on the beach, there’s still some great spots to get nice pictures. Position yourself to get the shipwreck slide in the background, or the BoardWalk resort. At night when the BoardWalk is all lit up makes for a fantastic scenery shot!

On the Bridge

Over by Epcot, there is a bridge that connects the BoardWalk side to the Yacht & Beach side. You can get fabulous shots of all three resorts from here, not to mention some fun family poses.

Robert Brault once said “life is like sailing – you can use wind to go in any direction.” I hope that one day life’s wind will blow you in the direction of the Yacht Club!
