Empire: Cantiere delle Marche delivers 26m explorer to American owner

Cantiere delle Marche (CDM) has delivered the sixth unit of its 26.3-metre Darwin 86 explorer series, named Empire . The yacht was sold to an American owner in 2021. 

Intending to operate the vessel himself and "venture into distant and challenging seas", the owner requested numerous customisations, including an ice belt, a dedicated panic room "in case of attack" and a hull reinforced with bulletproof steel plates. She has been designed by Hydro Tec .

"The direct relationship with the owner and his 360-degree involvement in the development of the project at all stages [...] is why I do the best job in the world, in the best place," said project manager Fillipo Dall'Aglio.

In contrast to her sisterships, Empire features a differently-shaped bow with a gentle sheer, an open stern with stairs and a carbon hardtop. Accommodation is for up to eight guests in four cabins on the lower deck, including a full-beam master. There is further complement for a crew of four.

Interiors are by Massari Design , who has cultivated a "warm and inviting ambience" by combining custom-made furniture with pieces from Poltrona Frau and Poliform, according to the shipyard. The explorer will feature storage for two tenders, a gym on the upper deck and a main deck "social hub" complete with an open plan saloon, "cosy bar", dining area and galley. The upper deck is furnished with loose furniture and sunbeds for an alternate communal area.

Vasco Buonpensiere, co-founder and CEO of Cantiere delle Marche, expressing satisfaction with the Darwin Class and noting its strong position in the explorer yachts’ market, says: " Empire , now joining a fleet of twelve Darwins ranging from 86 to 112 feet, exemplifies the success of the range she belongs to. The Darwin Class is still giving us a great satisfaction confirming the validity of a model that stands the test of time."

Powered by twin Scania engines, Empire will have a top speed of 11.5 knots and a range of 4,000 nautical miles when cruising at 10 knots.

According to BOATPro , CDM has 13 yachts on order or actively under construction.

The Ancona-based yard builds 26-48m explorer yachts. As certified by the 2020 Boat International’s Global Order book results, CdM is the No.1 expedition yacht builder worldwide for the third year running. These yachts have unique features that allow them to handle the most challenging navigation in the most extreme latitudes, safely and reliably.

Il cantiere nautico di Ancona è un centro di eccellenza multibrand che nasce nel 1963 come cantiere navale CRN, specializzato nella progettazione e costruzione di fully custom yacht in acciaio e alluminio da 45 a 95 metri. Cantiere delle Marche opens new dock in Ancona

The new dock hopes to further enhance the effectiveness of its pre-owned sales department….

Italian shipyard, Cantiere delle Marche (CdM), has officially opened its new dock in Marina Dorica on the Adriatic coast. Designed and built to be like a luxury private marina the dock comes with four mooring spots suited to host yachts of up to 45 metres.

With a length of around 40 metres, the dock has a total surface area of around 500 square metres and comes equipped with shore power connections, fresh water and compressed air outlets. The new dock allows the shipyard to host its vessel after launch for final outfitting and warranty works, as well as refit and repair works thanks to its proximity to the yard’s main facilities.

CdM’s new dock hopes to further enhance the effectiveness of the pre-owned sales department, which opened in February 2019, by offering fully equipped berths for yachts in what it hopes will prove to be a welcoming environment for owners and crew within a gated area.

In an interview with SuperyachtNews earlier in the year , the yard’s co-founder and marketing director, Vasco Buonpensiere, highlighted that part of CdM’s growth strategy was to focus on the business’ pre-owned sales department. “Our targets for 2019 were once again very clear. Among them, the sales department focussed on starting a structured penetration of the US market and setting up a pre-owned sales department trying to have as many second hand CdM yachts as possible in our portfolio.”

CdM has reportedly decided to internalise the process to gain more transparency with its clients. The yard’s desire to handle the resale of its yachts in-house means that the yard has control of the entire lifecycle of its vessels meaning that it can provide detailed yacht histories for potential buyers as well as supporting current clients during refit and repair periods. The new dock now gives customers a comfortable space to do so.

The lifecycle management of superyachts is a topic that will be under the spotlight during The Superyacht Forum 2019. Held between 18-20 November in Amsterdam, the event promises to bring together key influencers within various sectors of the superyacht industry to discuss the topic of how to build for the next generation. On day one of the forum, there will be a discussion between directors of various yacht services companies on how they envision the growing fleet will be managed in the future.
